1,000 posts into the very popular September 2012 thread, here's a new one, for knicker checking, boob prodding, toilet rushing, oh and eating the entire contents of the fridge or McDonalds

Here's to our tiny beans and all the lovely ladies lost along the way.

Full steam ahead to booking in and positive scans aplenty.

Hi everyone, i had my docs appt last night and he was really nice, went through all the stuff i cant eat etc, and then i booked my first MW appt at reception on the way out!
I'm 8 weeks today and MW is on 21st, so will be 10+4 at that point. Docs said about the nucal scan and all that, so said we wanted that too, so he said we'll have that between weeks 11 and 13..

Told my best friend last night too, she was so happy it was lovely telling her!

Also, i got some sea bands delivered today, to try and help with the constant, horrendous nausea i am experiencing and i'm pleased to say it has helped quite a bit. Well worth the £6 i paid on amazon. :)

Rusulka · 03/02/2012 13:47

Hello ladies.

Sorry you're having a rough time Ethelred and Dorita, hopefully next weeks' scans will put your mind at rest one way or the other.

I'm in North-west Kent, and my first midwife appt is at 10+1 (Monday), and my 12 week scan will be at 12+2 (21st). Hoping everything is still ok at the scan, as we can come home and celebrate by stuffing ourselves with lots of pancakes!

I was talking to DH's grandmother a few weeks ago about sterilising and scans, just to try and get her advice, and she just looked at me blankly, then said they didn't bother sterilising or having scans in the 50s. Whoops. I guess we should feel lucky we have the technology to see them at all, I can't imagine having to wait until peanut's born to see if they're ok. 9 months of panic and worry!
My mum is similarly useless, she just says she can't remember as it was 30 years ago (thanks mum)... although she did dig out her card of midwife appts where they made fortnightly notes on how she felt- random!

It's a beautiful day here with the sun shining, and I feel like I really ought to go put out some food for the birds in the garden, but if it's this cold in the house, there's no way I'm risking going outside- Peanut will freeze!

LittleSpade · 03/02/2012 14:21

Rusulka I'm on the Kent/Sussex border and I know what you mean about it being a beautiful day. I just braved going outside and if you sit absolutely still right in the sun it's actually slightly warm! :)

Have a good weekend everyone x

cakeladyc · 03/02/2012 16:05

LittleSpade and Rusulka I'm in Sussex, right next to Gatwick Airport at the moment, and it looks bloody gorgeous out there! Know i'm going to freeze my backside off when i have to go home though! :)

lurkingmurking · 03/02/2012 18:25

Ethelred and Dorita I have everything crossed for you.

Not much going on over here. Have been with DS everyday as we are starting a new nursery and it has been HARD work - I am absolutely pooped. Tomorrow DH is working all day so my Dad is coming round to keep me company and then on Sunday I am relaxing and doing no childcare!

Whatevertheweather · 03/02/2012 18:42

God I feel terrible 2nd day of all day sickness. Can't keep anything down at all. Am now wondering if it's a bug rather than morning (all day!) sickness, not sure how you can tell. I don't feel 'il' no temp or anything but I was never this sick with dd1 or 2. My ribs and throat hurt from being so sick. Got my booking in appt with mw tomorrow will see what she says.

Hope everyone else is doing a bit better Smile

Dorita75 · 03/02/2012 19:02

Thanks everyone for messages, and waitingforlittler for sharing your experience.. what will be will be

Left my travelbands off today and started feeling sick this aft so still got that symptom!

quitcomplaining · 03/02/2012 19:57

Ethelred and dolrita I have my fingers crossed for good news.

Well my hyperemesis is still raging strong Sad another day in hospital yesterday. I'm
Currently tucked up in bed, dp said he will get me any food in the world tonight.... I'm attempting a pizza express margareta piZza takeaway from the restaurant rather than the shops. I'm hoping I can keep it down. To be honest I don't even fancy it but I know he has been hankering after pizza all week so I thought I would humour him.

I have my scan on Tuesday. Can't wait to see the little baby. So nice to have something nice to look forward to amongst all this feeling miserable.

In other news we have prematurely taught dd that there is a baby in mummy's tummy. Was a tad embarrassing for dp today, he dropped her off at his mums earlier and she lifted his brothers wifes top up, bra exposed and all and said baby! Grin

Whatevertheweather · 03/02/2012 20:42

Quitcomplaining - I am probably totally over-reacting but I've never known sickness like this. How do you know when it is hyperemesis as opposed to bad ms? Mine is all day (been actually sick about 15 times today). I feel hungry, eat a little then am violently sick again 20-30mins later. A lot of times it is just bile/acidy. My throat is sore and my ribs are killing me. Never had anything like this with dd's. It started Wednesday when I was bang on 9 weeks. Before that just vague nausea. Could it be hyperemesis? Or a bug maybe but I dont feel 'ill' at all? Urgh you have my sympathies, you must be feeling a lot worse than me.

york67 · 03/02/2012 20:46

Hope you get good news next week ethel and dorita.

quitcomplaining · 03/02/2012 21:54

Whatevertheweather - I too thought I had really bad morning sickness. I never had it all first pregnancy so assumed it was normal at first. I was being sick 15-20 times a day too and couldn't lift my head off the pillow. Felt really awful. It came out of nowhere at bang on 12 weeks.

Anyway I had to register at a new doctors on account of moving and literally sat in the waiting room holding an old sickbay I had kept off a flight in one hand and dd pram in the other as I knew it would probably strike whilst in with the doctor. To cut a long story short I told him the extent of the sickness, he found ketones in my urine and sent me off to the epu where they diagnosed hyperemesis.

I was given an anti sickness shot and time on a drip and sent away after 24 hours with anti sickness tablets. (which only stop vomit not feeling like shite!) been in 3 times this week now for time on the drip. Honestly horrendous! They are scanning me Tuesday to double check it's not a multiple pregnancy as i also got my bfp very early.

Does your local hospital have an epu? If so I recommend phoning ahead and explaining symptoms. Mine apparently take self referrals so If I hadn't have per chance been at doctors i could have taken myself.

One of the nurses said that one of the differences between normal ms and hyperemesis is that normal ms is mostly eased by eating little and often which can normally avoid you actually vomitting. Whereas eating makes hyperemesis worse and causes more vomiting. Dont be embarrassed to go and get their opinion, after all it's the health of the baby that's important.

You have my upmost sympathy anyway. I can only describe it as that hangover everyone has had where you lie there thinking you wouldn't care If you died ( or was that just me?Blush) multiplied by ten!

quitcomplaining · 03/02/2012 21:55

Sorry bang on 6 weeks! Don't know where I got 12 from!

Whatevertheweather · 04/02/2012 05:16

Sounds very familiar quitcomplaining I woke at 4.30am and started being sick again. Urgh. Got my booking in appt with midwife this afternoon so will definitely discuss it with her.

sasslejaney84 · 04/02/2012 10:14

Morning all!! Wow, hyperemesis does not sound pleasant at all! Feel for everyone who is suffering!!

Feel better this morning, feel sick but its kind of comforting, I've gotta go into town so I'm gonna have to try my best to avoid the massive macdonalds, KFC and burger king!! I really don't wanna be massive with this baby like I was with my DD!!

Spoke to my mum last night as she hadn't heard from me in a few days and was getting worried! (Bless her!)

This pregnancy is already so different to my last so my friends are taking bets on what it is! Found out via fb last night, my best mate accidentally sent me the messages!! Luckily I find it hilarious so she was let off the hook after about half an hour of pretend anger!

MadMonkeys · 04/02/2012 17:49

Are you guys really convinced that travel bands work? I'm a bit Hmm. but if they do I'll get some and give them a go. Second day of feeling lousy today - sick, tired and still coughing. Can't tell what is due to the LO and what is cold/cough related. Bleugh.

Dorita75 · 04/02/2012 18:59

Yes madmonkeys buy them now! I left mine off today to test whether or Not I still had ms, felt rubbish until 4pm when I put them back on and the world was right again!

Sorry to those suffering from bad sickness, sounds awful, hope it doesn't last too long.

Whatevertheweather · 04/02/2012 19:45

Still lots of sickness here, bleurgh. Had my booking in appt today and mw has told me to go to GP's on Monday for some anti-emetics. Am taking it as a positive sign though that the hcg must be nicely ramping up Smile

How is everybody else? Not had any snow here am very Envy of anyone who has!

MadMonkeys · 04/02/2012 19:50

We've got snow! Just an inch or so, but it's still falling. There's rain forecast tonight so it will prob have gone by the morning. Off to order some travel bands now...

MadMonkeys · 04/02/2012 20:02

Make that 4 inches.

rightontime · 04/02/2012 20:10

Quitcomplaining pretty sure from your description that I had hyperemesis in my last pregnancy (3rd one) told the MW but she just brushed it off so I guessed it must have been MS but not being able to eat or keep water down sounds like what you are describing. So to you and whatever and anyone else suffering I have tons of sympathy and empathy for you. I am so grateful that I am not suffering this time. Bit of MS but eating helps this time round. Hugs to you all. Get plenty of rest.

Snow here but DH is complaining that it is not enough to cancel his shift at work tomorrow. Please pray for more snow for us so I can have him home all day and he still gets paid for it Grin

pinpan · 04/02/2012 22:17

Morning all,

Hope everyone is having a relatively peaceful weekend. My DH has christened me a "vommy mommy" rather than a "yummy mummy" which is nice of him. Managing to eat okay though - and feel a lot better when I have actually been sick (about every 2 days at the mo') rather than the ever present nausea - so sympathy in buckets to all of you who are suffering more. Stay warm!

In other news, I made the mistake of reading the thread on what to pack in your hospital bag, which is full of stories instilling fear and terror in this first timer. So many bodily fluids... everywhere...

sasslejaney84 · 05/02/2012 09:50

pinpan with my first I was petrified but I was fine! I'm sure you will be too!!

We've had no snow here at all :-( was really hoping we'd get some but no! We were even in the band for 10 cm here in huddersfield in yorkshire but we had NONE!!

My mum said to get the bands last night!! She said one of her friends is using them so gonna amazon them on thursday! I'm hoping they work as well for me as they have everyone else!!

Rusulka · 05/02/2012 13:16

We've had a couple of inches of snow here. Lots of drippy noises coming form outside though, so I'm guessing it's started thawing already... I wanted it to have snowed so much last night that the buses would have been cancelled and DH would have to stay at home, but he said if that happened, he would have walked in. We live 4 miles from his work. Wanker. Peanut wants him home, damnit!

Sending lots of sympathy to those really suffering with sickness, I feel terrible for not really having any. It doesn't help as I'm convinced something must be wrong or I imagined the whole thing. I guess the sickness is a constant reminder of LO. Don't have much of an appetite though, and my main problem at the mo seems to be headaches- every day for the past 3 days, some worse than others. Can only assume it must be peanut sucking all my moisture and I'm getting dehydrated from not drinking enough. Do you have to drink more when pg?

sasslejaney84 · 05/02/2012 14:38

rus I'm not suffering too bad with the sickness during the day but I can be bad on an evening, seems to be every third day when it happens!! I'm seriously dehrydrated! I have to have a drink with me where ever I go! Not helping too much with the having to go to the toilet every 5 minutes though!!

Sometimes I feel like I might have imagined everything too!! Even though I've been to the midwife etc and have my scan dates, I think it won't seem real until I have the scan and I see the heart beat!!

MadMonkeys · 05/02/2012 17:42

Rusulka - yes, you do need to drink more. You're bllod volume is increasing and your body is making lots of extra tissue etc so drink lots. My sister didn't and ended up i agony with a water infection. You should be drinking at least 8 big glasses of water a day. If you're not sleeping so well your headaches might be because you're tired.

Well, I'm feeling horribly nauseous all of the time now, but not actually been sick yet. Evenings are the worst. And is anyone else, erm, a but windy? Blush No, nobody? Oh, erm, me neither...
