Nowt worse than a saggy ball... just ordered a pump on Amazon as mine's deflating already!

digitalgirl · 22/02/2012 13:35

saggy balls

notso · 22/02/2012 14:28

I've been using my thankfully not saggy ball for a while now but I do walk like John Wayne for a bit when I get off it!

digital MW said if Ped is still breech at 36 week scan then I have the option of them trying to turn the baby manually which does carry a few risks, waiting a bit longer to see what happens or deciding to go for CS prob at 39 weeks. Though she did say breech vaginal birth was possible, she thinks I will have trouble getting a consultant to agree with me being high risk.
She has suggested some methods I can try until then, and I have looked at SpinningBabies.com but several are not recommended for SPD sufferers. One of them is doing a headstand in a heated pool or hot tub, but I'm not planning on going down the swimming baths and trying that one!

Good to hear sling recommendations, am looking for one. My main problem is I get really hot when using a sling, so if anyone knows of a cool sling, I would love to hear about it.

Have downloaded a baby names book onto my Kindle, still not much we agree on for a DS but loads of ideas for a DD, Imogen being a strong contender especially as it means 'last born'!

Bunsouttheoven · 22/02/2012 14:53

Slings - I have several, like pushchairs they all have their pros & cons.
Baby bjorn - pretty rubbish but DP likes to use it being deemed the only one manly enough for himGrin
Mei tai - lovely, straps are wide on shoulders, quick to tie.
Ella rou (sp) - beautiful, more tricky to tie, especially outside as it is v long. Versatile, can be used front or back.
Baba sling - don't know yet, just bought one on eBay. Hoping new baby will bf in it, though I did try bf with a ring sling for ds & he hated it.

I had my first sizing scan yesterday, will see consultant nxt wk. Currently baby is within the centiles but apparently it's more about growth trajectory hence more scans to come. Seems a bit pointless though since consultant seems unbothered about me having to squeeze a big one outHmm

Must get hold of another exercise ball, I got rid of ours after having ds (never againWink) they are great, especially towards the end when nothing is comfy & sofa sitting isn't great for getting baby into a good birthing position.

notso hope baby has an about turn, happy headstandingGrin

notso · 22/02/2012 15:06

Great thanks for sling advice Bunsouttheoven, I hope Ped turns too been doing lots of crawling round with my bum in the air - classy!
I tried a Baba sling type thing with DS2 but he just looked like this Angry and puched me in the boob so I sold it on Ebay!

Just back from 34 week appointment with midwife. All is well. And we've hired a doula; we weren't going to but having heard good things about having one and our one in particular we decided to go for it. We met her last night and she's lovely so very happy with our decision.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 22/02/2012 21:44

My 34w appt is in the morning. Been really thirsty the last week or so, no matter how much I drink I always have a dry mouth...? A little worried now that I could have GD...? Guess I'll find out tomorrow...Confused

Flisspaps · 22/02/2012 22:10

Beyond I've been ridiculously thirsty - insatiably so almost - for the last couple of days but think it's unlikely that I've developed GD over the weekend since my GTT - I'm putting it down to central heating drying the air and a depleted immune system (have a sore throat as well and blocked sinuses) - could this be the cause of your thirst (not my having a cold as that would be vair odd, could you have one too? Grin)

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 22/02/2012 22:18

Grin I have had a cold, but have been better-ish for at least a week now. Hopefully it is only that, my sinuses still arent right either, I've had sinusitis on and off all winter too!

I can't have an actual pregnancy illness, my suffering is all the type that can't be physically proven (sciatica, AND and fainting for no discernable reason) Grin

Uglymush · 22/02/2012 22:44

Hi, had my 34 week MW appointment today. Bump growing a little too well and now at the top of 'average' but not worried as had a student measure and MW did say if different people measure you may get inaccurate readings. Discussed early inducing and she thinks I have a good case but I have to be referred to a consultant. Here's hoping they think the same - I might have a chance of winning the sweepstake at work then Wink

JambalayaCodfishPie · 23/02/2012 07:36

Morning Ladies!

Loving reading about everybody. :) Am only 31+4 so some of you seem way ahead of me!

My bump has finally properly sprouted, although I think its been aided by my very social week - meals out at Pizza Hut, TGI Fridays, two pub lunches and two takeaways. Blush

Ah well, I stil weigh less than I did when I first got PG so I cant feel that guilty! Will try to be good for the next week or so though............

notso · 23/02/2012 11:05

Morning all, just had to escape from the kitchen as I smashed a bottle of beer out of the fridge and had an overwhelming urge to have a nice cold lager and lime!
Feeling good today, minimal pain from SPD and two people told me my bump is 'neat', I realise they are prob being polite but who cares Grin
DD(nearly 12) made DH and I feel about a hundred yesterday when we watched the Sky +-ed Brits with her , and we didn't know who about 70% of the people wereBlush.

Have had a few twingy pains on and off since last night, different to braxton hicks, more like crampy period pain, nothing major I don't think though. Have sternly told Ped to not think about making an entrance until at least 37 weeks and only when He/she has turned round.

Flisspaps · 23/02/2012 11:54

notso in the last week I've smashed a vase, a glass and a glass candle holder Hmm

ugly have you any other reasons to go for early induction (other than baby being expected to be bigger than average) I'm on my phone so can't go back now I'm posting, but early induction isn't advised if its just big with no GD or medical problems as IIRC it's shown to make no difference to 'outcome' for mother or baby - of course if you have other medical factors which would suggest induction as a recommendation then my post is pointless so please ignore. I only ask as DC2 is way above the 90th centime line and no mention has been made to me about early induction.

Had BH all day yesterday which was delightful, as well as massive thirst and a stinking cold. Saw the MW for 34 week check, she was Confused as to why I'd been offered a GTT last week as a big baby on its own isn't on the list of risk factors indicating who should be offered one in my area, but she was lovely and didn't even laugh at me too much for turning up 24 hours early for our appointment Blush

Flisspaps · 23/02/2012 11:55

Centile line, not bloody centime. Arsing autocorrect!

notso · 23/02/2012 12:17

What is it with pregnancy and clumsiness Flisspaps DC4 has cost me two cereal bowls, three glasses, a whole stack of snack bowls, not to mention the endless knocked over drinks and bottles of milk and now the beer.
I still fancy some I may push the boat out and have a weak shandy tonight.

IIRC ugly was it you who wanted early induction as your DH was going to be working away?

Flisspaps · 23/02/2012 13:04

notso that rings a bell - I think ugly's baby may have solved the problem if that's the case Grin

notso · 23/02/2012 13:32

Yay for babyugly Grin

Interesting Fliss about the GTT policy in your area, I had to have a GTT because my previous two babies were big, even though this one is not measuring big Confused.
TBH I feel a lot of crap is spouted about size of babies, with DC3 the consultant told me that subsequent babies are almost always bigger but then said girls are usually smaller than boys, as this was my third and the previous boy was 9lb 5 and I didn't know the sex I was none the wiser.
He then tactfully said that some women "push out an 11 pounder with minimal effort where others split in two with a five pound baby" nice terminology Hmm

spannermary · 23/02/2012 13:40

Another clumsy pregnant woman here! DH won't let me wash anything breakable up as I seem to have an excess of relaxin in my fingertips!

...such a shame. Wink

As for baby size - yes my DH told me that he'd heard boys tended to be bigger than girls. We wondered if it was true, or just more of the bollocks that gets spouted, as with boys showing out front, and girls all round. Anyone know?

Good to hear all MW appointments seem to be going reasonably well!

Bunsouttheoven · 23/02/2012 14:31

Maybe it was me you had mixed up with ugly?

I am seeing consultant due to previous large baby (9lb 12 oz). He had shoulder dystocia though consultant is adamant that it was just 'difficult shoulder' contrary to midwife's notesHmm

When I saw him he said 'a woman gave birth to a 13 lber today' not really sure I found that reassuring tbh.

Ge said the would recommend early induction if the growth trajectory looked like the baby would be above the 100th centile at 40wks.

I just feel a bit worried, will have to see. I don't want to be induced but I don't want to experience what we did for ds's birth. It felt very much like a close call.

digitalgirl · 23/02/2012 15:55

Ooh those are big babies. I'm also worried about the subsequent babies being bigger theory. Both me and DH are the eldest and have a younger sibling who was much much bigger at birth (and still are).

But am also keeping my fingesr crossed for the second birth being easier theory. Well, maybe not easier, but shorter. Fully expecting it to hurt just as much.

Bunsouttheoven · 23/02/2012 16:28

Statistically subsequent babies are bigger but also that subsequent labours 'easier' with interventions less likely. Anecdotally everyone I know has had a 'better' birth second time around. Not to say that it can't be plain sailing first time round for manySmile

spannermary · 23/02/2012 17:12

Oh, and just to add it to the mix - I was 3oz lighter than my sister at birth. We were both about a week or so late.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 23/02/2012 18:59

I'm the eldest sister and in weight order we were: Middle sister (over 9lb and on time), me (just over 8lb and on time), little sister (nearly 8lb and overdue)

DS was 8lb 8oz, DS2 is currently measuring slightly big but still in normal range, at 6lb 10oz (Thats heavier than DH was at birth!!) at 34 weeks, so if he stays on track and comes on time, he's due to be about 9lb 8oz Shock

My wee was fine at my checkup today, so no GD to worry about like I was thinking there might be - Phew!! (GTT tests not done here as standard)

And DS2 is 4/5 engaged. Knew he was, can feel him. DS was engaged for weeks before birth though, so know this isnt a sign that labour is imminent. :)

Got an appointment next Thursday now to sort out all the paperwork for a homebirth. Still slightly worried about it so not going to worry about deciding for definite until I'm in labour...

Uglymush · 23/02/2012 21:03

Hi, my induce request is purely selfish as we want my DH to be there. The size is still within the norms so that's ok. Have my appointment next Wednesday so will find out more then.

It is interesting what people say about your bump. Why they think they have a right to comment I am not sure. One person will tell me I'm neat, the next will say oh aren't you big and the best I've had was 'oh that dress won't last you much longer' What the F*?? It was a maternity dress with loads of give still in it. I think I might wear it on my last day at work just to prove a point!

Uglymush · 23/02/2012 21:05

Oh as for clumsy - Our car now has a rather large dent above the wheel arch where it fell out with a royal mail van when I hadn't judged the parking correctly.
