Wow! Active thread over the past few days, can't keep up with everyone!

Am now being monitored by my MW due to my pretty much non-existent bump, currently measuring at 6wks behind, for my height and weight. We're not overly worried, because we think baby is just tucked behind my ribs (cant breathe most of the time - feel generally squashed in there) but if its still outside the boundaries at 28wks appt I'll have to be refered for a growth scan.

I've been avoiding buying baby things after my inital bargain pram purchase at 10wks, I dont know why - just dont feel comfortable buying yet. Am going to have to shake myself out of it though - times passing so quickly im going to wake up one morning and be 40wks! Grin

Yummymummyyobe1 · 11/01/2012 12:51

To quote Meatloaf "Two out of three ain't bad" I have a hairy stomach and heartburn.

I am 24 weeks but almost at the third trimester (which I believe is on Sunday, as I only have 15 weeks before things should get going)xx

LaTristesse · 11/01/2012 14:53

Hehe Yummy, at least you're missing the worst one! Smile

Given we rebuilt our kitchen literally from the foundations up before Christmas and are now 3/4 of the way through renovating the living room I think it's fair to say we're in full-on nesting mode here digitalgirl. Next stop the nursery! Grin

I read this thread yesterday and commented to DH how before the days of blood pressure tests it apparently used to be common practice to tell pregnant women not to hang their washing out as raising their arms over their heads may cause fainting spells if their BP was a bit iffy.

I just spent the afternoon painting the living room ceiling. It took ages as I kept having hot flushes, feeling queasy and needing to get down from the ladder to take a break as I was getting nervous I might fall. I couldn't for the life of me work out why I felt so awful. The BP thing never once occurred to me (despite the fact I know mine, while alright, is much lower than normal) until DH got home and reminded me of the thread just now. Duh. Baby Brain kicking in do you think? Hmm

As far as the three Hs go, the only one I'm afflicted with so far is heartburn, but boy am I afflicted with it! That's one good thing about painting the ceiling today: stretching = no pressure on stomach = a few hours relief.

Having said I don't have a hairy stomach, DH did say my back looked a bit downy the other day. Eep! I'm hoping it was just the light...

guinealady · 11/01/2012 18:30

Doesn't quite feel like the end is in sight for me...26 weeks still feels like there is a long way to go, and my bum still looks rather tiny (I was not exactly svelte before, but the bump itself seems to be staying pretty small).

Nearly everything we've got so far is second-hand - we are getting a used Mamas and Papas cot for free, but have bought mattress and sheets new, both in the sales. Those are the first brand new purchases so far!

KatAndKit · 11/01/2012 18:31

Oh I have started to buy baby clothes! I now have some sort of addiction situation - the stuff is just too cute! I got some gorgeous stuff out of Next and also some basic whites from Asda and a few patterned bodysuits from M&S. Must stop and remember they are only in 0-3 for all of 5 minutes.

VintageNancy · 11/01/2012 18:47

Which prams have people been going for? I've heard good things about Mamas and Papas Sola which is available here. And Phil & Teds. Might have to start looking at them more seriously now.

Have only bought one babygro - had quite a few cute ones given to us before we left. So I think I'll just buy a couple of packs of basic white ones now - short sleeves and long and I can always get crafty (when my sewing machine makes it way across the pond) and customise them.

KatAndKit · 11/01/2012 18:52

I got a good deal on the Graco Symbio in the Kiddicare sale. I was also looking at the Mothercare spin but the discount on the symbio meant it actually ended up cheaper and I thought it looked nicer.

JambalayaCodfishPie · 11/01/2012 18:53

I have a silvercross sleepover, a newer version of the one I had with my daughter. It's a little big for some people, but I do a lot of walking, it's perfect for us.

I've bought 2 packs of vests, 2 packs of sleep suits, and a 'coming home' outfit of stripey bright dungarees. Refuse to buy anymore because we will be given so much! Grin

JambalayaCodfishPie · 11/01/2012 18:54

Kat The Symbio was my second choice! Really liked it but decided to go with what we know. Smile

LaTristesse · 11/01/2012 20:10

I've gone for a Britax Dual as we need a double: 22 different seating combinations- whoop! And despite telling myself our daughter could reuse most of DS's clothes I have gone a bit eBay mad on girly stuff!

Hello
I'm new to Mumsnet!
Is it OK if I join the April baby thread? I start 3rd trimester tomorrow and our little boy is due 5th April. This is our first and I can't believe how quickly this pregancy has gone!
Looking forward to the final weeks :)

bushymcbush · 11/01/2012 21:11

Welcome medieval Smile

All this pram talk is getting me in a panic, as we have bought nothing. Actually we're planning to dust off the Quinny Buzz from dd - needs retrieving from the cellar and checking for damp damage. Have no cot yet. I do have a boxfull of hand me down baby clothes to sort through.

I also want to properly research slings - last time we had the BabyBjorn but I fancy a wrap style sling to start off with this time for a bit of kangaroo care.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 11/01/2012 23:00

Oo, hello medieval - same due date as me!! Grin

Well well well, I never would have connected the dizzy spells I've been having to the hanging curtains/changing lightshades/general arm lifting! You learn something every day

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 11/01/2012 23:06

PS, I LOVE the silvercross sleepover, it is my pram-envy pram!

digitalgirl · 12/01/2012 12:37

Welcome medieval

We're hoping to borrow/buy a Bugaboo Bee from a friend and keep DS's Maclaren Techno XT for when they're a little older. Hoping to go through all the babygrows in the loft next month once the dust from all the building work has settled. Have only bought Swaddle muslins new this time...but have sold my first two items on eBay so will be looking for a wrap sling to buy with the proceeds! Anyone recommend any? Thinking Moby?

Yummymummyyobe1 · 12/01/2012 14:19

LaTristesse waiting for the third I'm sure I will get it.

We are almost there, just need to paint Hary's room and buy the border also a home delivery from the womder that is Ikea for the big pieces of nursery furniture. (we have a moses basket Etc)

xx

Yummymummyyobe1 · 12/01/2012 14:21

We went for the Pliko P3 travel system the hard bodied carrycot is great. I had wanted a coach built Silver Cross from the heritage range but will not fit in the car Sad

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 12/01/2012 17:40

Had my 28w appointment today to have bloods taken. Midwife was telling me how she was on call tonight and we got onto the subject of home birth. She would be very happy for me to try for one, (assuming no reason appears not to) especially as I'm worried that I'll have an unplanned homebirth anyway!! Grin

Was anyone else thinking of one?

HollyPockett · 12/01/2012 17:56

Hairy belly - check!
No to the other 2 though thank God! I have had acid reflux on and off though, that's not very nice I have to say.

I'm 27w1 today and I am feeling it! The Diva has decided that she doesn't like to share her space with pasta/noodles/rice, which is a nightmare for me as I'm a complete carb monster. I had chicken ramen yesterday in Wagamama and my stomach felt so tight afterwards I thought it was going to pop!

We've started to buy clothes now, no actual outfits, but lots and lots of babygrows, sleep suits etc. Not completely sure what the difference is - I just have a list of no arms/leg suits and no legs/long arms suits!

We're going to start on the nursery in mid Feb so I'm spending most of my time looking at cots etc!

It's all becoming very very real now!

nordicmom hope your DS bday planning goes well! You have a whole lot going on :)

KB I can't help wither I'm afriad. Maybe CAB could help?

Bearcrumble · 12/01/2012 18:27

I'm 27 weeks tomorrow - been feeling like shit with a horrible sinusy cold all week.

I'm not sure whether to get a double buggy (Phil and Teds) or not. We have a Stokke and a mclaren techno - will probably use my Moby Wrap (yes digitalgirl, they're great - just watch some of the youtube vids on tying them) when baby is tiny but will probably need a double when little one is a bit bigger (DS will be 2 next month).

I have been buying a few wrap-around vests and little sleepsuits - got some in the Petit Bateau and Polarn O Pyret sales. Not making the same mistake I did with DS of buying all sorts of outfits - sleepsuits are fine for the first 6 months. Well, maybe a couple of dresses/tights things. Quite a lot of DS's old things are unisex so it'll be nice to get them out again.

medievaljacqui · 12/01/2012 21:18

BeyondTheLimits
I'm booked in for a homebirth (providing all remains low risk). I was worried my midwife would laugh me out of the surgery tbh (first pregancy) but she was amazing and really supportive. Plus Mum is a recently retired midwife of 30 yrs experience so I feel I've got all bases covered. Very excited! :)

laughingGnomette · 12/01/2012 21:37

Hello I'm another newbie!
I'm expecting my first child (a boy) on the 28th April! Feeling huuuuge. I've got a scan tomorrow to check on his growth as he was looking rather big on my 19 week scan. I also have a GTT on Tuesday - I'm a bit nervous, not sure what to expect. Thanks for the info VintageNancy, I'll report back after I've had mine.
We've been buying (and being gifted!) bits and pieces along the way - car seat, moses basket, ergo sling, breast pump/bottles, blankets etc. We managed to find a lovely as good as new Bugaboo Cameleon on eBay for a great price and picked up a load of lovely second hand clothes on gum tree so it hasn't been as eye-wateringly expensive as I'd feared.
Currently pondering what changing bag to get...
I can't believe how quickly it is all going though! We'll be on our maternity leave before we know it!! :)

Emsgale · 12/01/2012 22:28

Mackrelmint · 13/01/2012 12:36

beyond - I am thinking of homebirth too. Straightforward and quite quick birth last time so thinking things should move fairly fast and easier to look after DD here.

Booked one in last time but transferred wanting epidural (didn't get it as was pushing on arrival to hospital). What I didn't realise last time is that you can book to have a homebirth, then if it comes to the day and you think you'd prefer to go to hospital instead, for no specific reason, you can do that too - so you have both options available. Whereas if you don't book they have no obligation to send mw out to you if you felt like staying at home. Only thing for me is that hospital I fall under for homebirth is further away than hospital I am currently booked into for antenatal so if I did want to go into hospital would be a bit more of a drive (but only 15-20mins vs. 5-10mins). I need to ring homebirth hospital and have a chat to them - still haven't sorted it out yet...

need to have a look at double buggies I think - seen quite a few mums with babies and older children now carrying the baby round in a carrycot whilst watching/playing with older child. looks very convenient so might see if there's a good one with carrycot option - never had one with DD but didn't really need it. bit horrifed at thought of buying another pram (we already have bugaboo bee and maclaren) but I think it'll make things easier; I did a lot of sling-carryiing with DD and it killed my back so don't want to rely on a sling.
