Phew, none of those three yet! Grin
Managed to not get piles until after labour with DS, hoping I'm as lucky this time.
And heartburn only turned up in literally the last two weeks of preg...
And I guess my belly escapes the hair cause I'm blonde?

JambalayaCodfishPie · 05/01/2012 19:06

Just marking my place, although 3rd trimester is a few weeks off for me yet....

.........Hairy tummy?! Grin

Mackrelmint · 05/01/2012 20:15

third trimester starts next week for me. quite exciting... none of the three horrrible Hs yet happily; in fact I still can't say I've had a single symptom except for increased appetite. weird.

just going back to 2nd thread - I watched OBEM last night. Did enjoy it but not sure it was the best plan - absolutely horrified by the poor girl being wheeled into theatre for forceps and then having the baby whisked away. freaked me out a bit.

desperately need to buy some new maternity tights/leggings. still wearing the couple I had from last time but they have totally died and every time I start walking end up with the crotch round my knees, or hoiking them up every three steps... must go and see if I can find some good maternity wear sales.

VintageNancy · 06/01/2012 01:04

Ha ha v.hairy tummy here! Does that mean boy or girl according to them olde wives?

Can't believe it's 3rd trimester time already. Eeeek!

Just made an appointment to see a midwife next week. Midwives are quite unusual here in the US apparently. Everyone usually sees a doctor. But if I have no reason in the UK to have a consultant I don't see why I need one here so I'm quite excited to have found a midwife - in fact a practice full of them.

bushymcbush · 06/01/2012 07:44

Marking my place.

Watched OBEM on 4OD last night. It reminded me why I am seriously considering home birth this time round. DH doesn't agree with me - he wants hospital. I may have to put my foot down as it's me that will be doing the birthing!

JambalayaCodfishPie · 06/01/2012 09:31

Bushy Id love to have a home birth, it was my plan after such a straightforward birth last time. Unfortunately I'm GBS+ and its looking like I'll need to have the ABs drip. The deal with my midwife is that a long as I dont have to have an extended stay in hosp afterwards, Im willing to compromise!

Mackrel I've picked up some fab bargains in the Next sale. Also, the Mothercare near me seems to be selling off all its maternity wear for pennies, its not overly stylish, but for tights/leggings, it might be worth a try?

Mackrelmint · 06/01/2012 13:27

Great that you have found a midwife and midwife-full practice vintage - hope you get on with them; must be pretty stressful changing countries and having to figure out the health system and so on at this point in your pregnancy.

bushy - DP is not keen on homebirth either. Mostly because he is worried about the mess. Would defo have to prepare more than last time if I did go with it, when I only had a couple of maternity pads ready - they really would not have done much!

thanks for tips jambalaya - just checked out and looks like some good cheap leggings in next - there's one near my work so will pop in when back on monday I think

KatAndKit · 06/01/2012 15:21

3rd trimester - goodness me that has come round already and I have done no shopping yet! Time to get a move on and investigate the sales.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 06/01/2012 17:54

New look have got maternity leggings, 2 pairs for £15. Not sure what they're like though...?

I keep dreaming that DS2 is born on my living room floor. It's a real possibility that he'll be quick, so whether its a premonition or just me worrying...? Grin

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 06/01/2012 17:54

on the plus side, at least I could get some new carpet then though...

Thaleia · 08/01/2012 18:59

Oh - all you early ones! I'm only 24 weeks, so a loooong way off the 3rd t.

Quite glad because we're only slowly getting ready for Jr.. We decided to stay in our one bedroom flat for now ( up to 12 - 18 months) so measured today if a baby bed would fit it all. And it does!!

Got the first (of hopefully) many batches of 2nd hand clothes and a few other bits and pieces. Holding the little outfits, I can't believe how small he's going to be. Or how big. Depends if think before or after birth Hmm.

spannermary · 09/01/2012 00:02

Thanks for the new thread, LaTristesse. Am I right in thinking the third trimester starts at 28 weeks?

Checking in at 27 weeks today - and counting down! I've got a GTT in ten days (my mum has Diabetes) and an Anti-D injection sometime soon too - so it's all go!

VintageNancy · 10/01/2012 03:19

Met with midwife today who was lovely and I've got a "proper" appointment on Thursday. Here in the US it seems that the fasting glucose test is the norm so I'm having that tomorrow morning - no food or drink for me after 9pm!

Is anyone else finding that the weeks are flying by? It might be because I've got loads of new stuff happening and every day is different but I can't believe I'm 28 weeks on Weds!

Nordicmom · 10/01/2012 04:02

Hi!
I'm back from Texas and somewhat confused with times of day ... slept all day while DH looked after DS and now I'm up although should get some more sleep before the school run.
Our visit to see our surrogate went well but was exhausting running around to appointments ,driving between two cities and flying 10h there and back in less than a week . We had our scan which was lovely but quite blurry so they promised a free one in a month or so when she'll be 27/28w . We got some pictures and a dvd plus a soft toy cat (chosen by DS) that they put the baby's heartbeat in and when you press a button you can hear it :).The 4D scans apparently work better later on when the baby's a bit bigger and fatter ;) (scanner's words). Then we had a court appointment for the pre-birth order ( it gets our names straight in the birth certificate ) which lasted a few minutes (needed a last minute nanny though for DS which was stressful but turned out to be no problem). Last but not least we had a doctor's appointment and they just listened to the heartbeat, measured the belly and then we were able to ask questions. Turns out they would probably do the section in the 23.-27.4. week when she'll be 39w. Also discussed who can be in the theatre with our surrogate and it's one person only. She said she's happy for me to be there since it's my baby:). We met her husband again and one of her children , the little girl who was lovely. We also visited her house on our last day in town. Unfortunately the baby wasn't kicking enough for me to feel her at any point :( but I'm not surprised. I guess I wasn't expecting anything so am not disappointed . Our surrogate seemed to be doing well . Her nausea is gone and she'd only put on 11pounds so far but had a proper belly:) which was nice for me to see. Baby is measuring average apparently . All in all a successful trip. We're also still thinking about names although I've got two in my head that I 'm thinking will be the ones. DH is happy with them and we have no alternatives . We're really bad at agreeing on names . DS name was the only one we could think of ... I do want to come up with a third one still like for DS. Have been buying a lot of baby clothes. Found some bargains in the sales here and in the US. Should get started on the practical purchases soon...
I hope you all had a nice Christmas and New Year!
We went to Finland and it was great to see my family again.

digitalgirl · 10/01/2012 09:42

Bookmarking. Am 26 weeks so another week till third trimester for me.

Nordic great to hear trip went well. The soft toy with the heartbeat sounds like a lovely memento.

Am sat in the ante-natal clinic waiting to do my gtt and the lady next to me has just thrown up her sugary drink all over the floor. Wondering if the poor girl will be made to drink it again. Not looking forward to my turn.

newmummyvicky · 10/01/2012 10:06

That?s lovely news Nordicmom bet your so glad you visited your surrogate, and see u baby over there! Is your next visit near when she is due?

I haven?t manage to get a hairy belly yet, but i have blond hair too so its not to bad. I have notice my belly button is slowly pushing out, well it lying flat!!!! Anyone else?

I watch OBEM last week and it kind of scared me, I think it was that 10.10lb baby, im hoping mine will be a lot smaller- LOL

I start Anti natal classes today. We have 6 over then next few weeks, They are free one and at our healthy living center. Im quite lucky its only round the corner from me.
I?m 29 weeks today, and still waiting for results from GTT test, should get them at some point this week. Next midwife appointment is at 31wks. Then every 2 wks eeeekkkk, getting so close now!

Hope your GTT tests go well, and midwife appointments.... x

newmummyvicky · 10/01/2012 10:10

digitalgirl i had the orange drink for for my GTT test, so if they ask you to choose ask for that one! My friend said the plain one made her feel sick, I expect thats what the lady had. LOL

digitalgirl · 10/01/2012 14:30

There wasn't any choice - just a tray of cups with warm clear liquid. It really was disgusting. I hope I don't have to do that again!
Got my MatB1 form and a referral to physio for my SPD - seeing the MW in two weeks time.

Builders are in today for the next few weeks building a porch (partly so we've got somewhere to put the buggy as we have no hall and it spent most of the time in the living room last time). Will have to wait before we can get baby bits down from the loft as I don't want them covered in dust. Anyone else nesting on a large scale?

KB02 · 10/01/2012 15:48

Hi this is my first post on mumsnet, i'd love to hear from anyone in a similar position to me... I have been job searching since mid november, it's been a struggle applying for jobs knowing that I only have 3 months at most to offer them. Most positions i've seen have been temp or fixed term contracts. I hate not working. Also i've moved to a new area so am hoping to find some group or class to go to, maybe at the local surestart. I will be going on maternity allowance in less than two weeks . Will anyone else on here be claiming maternity allowance?

VintageNancy · 10/01/2012 15:50

digital I have a whole house that needs some nesting attention. We haven't got a sofa yet! For the baby however we do have a few bits - we've bought a cot and one of my DH's colleagues has given us some things. Now we have a car each I can get out and buy more bits without having to wait until the weekend.

I'm in bed and about to get up to go to the lab for the GTT at 9am. Fun!

Bunsouttheoven · 10/01/2012 16:39

Glad to hear you had a good trip Nordicmom, what a whirlwind week it must have been.

I'm watching with interest re the GTT testing, mine is 28th jan. Lots of people have said it made them sick. I'm a bit apprehensive, is it a bit like drinking those redhydration salt drinks? They always make me sick.

I watching OBEM last week too, made me blub terribly as always. My last dc was 9lb 12 oz & had shoulder dystocia so waiting to see consultant about whether to have an elcs this time round. Wibble!

bushymcbush · 10/01/2012 23:02

Digital I sympathise with the SPD. I've got it quite badly this time. Saw physio yesterday - she told me to sit on a birthing ball, swim, and keep my knees together. Not all at the same time, I hope. How did your referral go? Come and chat to us on the SPD thread too.

KB welcome to the thread and to mumsnet. I don't know anything about claiming maternity allowance or job hunting whilst pregnant but hopefully someone else might come along and advise. It might be worth you starting a new thread in the 'employment' topic?

Nordicmom · 11/01/2012 00:01

newmummyvicky yes we'll next go over right before the c- section if all goes to plan . Until then we'll continue to be busy so will be in a hurry to get everything ready ... Still hoping to fly off somewhere for half term and haven't got a clue yet to where :). Feel like I just survived the last two trips and Christmas and now we have the two school exams in the next two weeks and haven't had enough time to prepare so wish us luck on this and next week's sat! Also soon DS 7th Birthday ( btw he was born on the 29. Like new baby's due date which won't be the actual date due to section) and he keeps on asking about his party I haven't had time to plan yet. I suppose we'll have to have it early feb before half term . I keep on telling myself I should sleep while I can but never do because too busy or something ... Already always tired due to my ilness which does depress me because I dont know how I'll manage with the baby keeping me awake...

VintageNancy · 11/01/2012 01:18

Bunsouttheoven - didn't make me sick but made me yawn excessively after the sugar high! The one other woman in the waiting room was doing the same. It tasted like sugary fanta.
The two hours weren't too bad either - there was a DVD on in the background, I read a magazine, some of my book, did some crochet (not all at once!).

KatAndKit · 11/01/2012 07:22

bushy swimming with your knees together is quite challenging surely?! I only do breaststroke normally so have been avoiding swimming. Well that's my excuse anyway.

Until less than a week ago no shopping had been done here but now it is all taking off. pram sorted. Some clothes purchased. Cotbed and moses basket sourced from family. Some feeding and changing paraphernalia sorted, also got a sling to try out. It's all getting quite exciting now but can't believe I still have 3 months to go. I hope it doesn't go too slow. Who has got what? I am very pleased with my pram purchase, but I keep looking at it and not quite getting it round my head that I'll have a little baby to put in it soon enough!

kb I'll be claiming MA as I have been doing temporary agency work until before xmas (not working anymore at the moment). I haven't started filling in my claim yet, that's a job for next week.

nordic your trip sounds great. Nice to know you will also be able to be present for the birth too.
