Hi northern long time no see! I wrote my birth plan on the NHS choices website, it was really easy to use..

Hi Carlita - long time no see indeed! I've been obsessively stalking reading the antenatal / pregnancy threads trying to learn as much as poss but haven't posted for a while as I felt like I was just moaning and wanted to get to a nicer bit of this pregnancy lark before I came back properly! :)

Will have a look at the NHS thing - def want to keep things as simple as possible!

Carlitawantsababy · 17/01/2012 14:05

Had you been having a bad time northern? I take it you're better now which is great! I'm enjoying myself the most at the moment so far as my PGP is well under control, hardly ever in pain and baby is moving so so much. We had a little bit of a Ripley moment last night when the boy was looking at breaking out using only a very sharp elbow, it was funny and rather odd!

Hello ladies!!
Thanks for letting me be in the "gang" :). Have had my consultation with the anaesthetist and my growth scan this morning. Baby is doing great. He has loooong legs!! Sonographer was enthralled bless her. Got a close up of his little face as well so I can't wait to give him cuddles! Back to hospital in an hour for my antenatal visit so hubby has the joyful task of collecting our gorgeous little beasties from school and getting them to their swimming lessons :o. I might try to get my next appointment for around 3pm on a Tuesday again!!! I have treated myself to a lovely lunch of steak and chips so I can just focus on the boys tea this evening before I go to my Welsh class.

Hope everyone is having a good day today. With regards birth plans.... From my experience the simpler the better. The more expectations you have before going in the worse you'll feel after if things didn't go that way for you. My only plan this time round is to be there in time, with hubby, try to avoid stabby needles and have yet another gorgeous healthy boy!!

As I'm only new, I dunno if you've talked about names?????
We've got ours picked and ready to roll. What about ye?

NorthernGirlie · 17/01/2012 14:17

Aww, the movement thing is lovely - if a little odd! I have what I'm assuming is a knee which sticks out when I cough!

Not a hard time as such - just a list of moans (seriously swollen feet - up 3 shoe sizes from week 11, was suspected DVT so had to self inject for a while, then stupidly high blood pressure which is now medicated but they keep threatening to keep me in hospital for the remainder of my pregnancy, still being sick every day, sore pelvis...) other than that I feel fine in myself and I hate fuss being made over me! I'm a rubbish patient and was really hoping (naively) to sail through this pregnancy business!! Only 7 weeks to go though so looking on the bright side!

FrankiDon182 · 17/01/2012 14:42

Yes iam definitely one with a positive labour experience, although now iam nervous that i cant be this lucky twice?
Finges crossed - heres hoping!

I did try the whole pouring water with a jug but, was very awkward and still very painful. I had no tears although midwife reassured me this was very normal (no one told me this pre baby?!) it passed within a few days though. I hope i'm not scaring anyone!

What an exciting month with all these wonderful babies coming along - i look forward to hearing all your birth stories and hearing of all the happiness and worry that comes with having a newborn!

We have choosen our little boys name if we are sharing names? Relatively new to mumsnet myself!

Someone previously asked about pram/hospital bag??
Have paid half of pram (so expensive, try not to think it or ill cry lol!) got a few essentials (crib, mattress, bottles, blankets, nappies, car seat, basic clothing etc) but, no where near as much as i had for DS1 at this stage. Not stressing... Too much! Phew!

Starting on hospital bag this week.. Top tip, buy more towels then you believe rational. Disposable undies are uncomfy- i'd opt for cheap big cotton knickers instead once you are home! Xx

Carlitawantsababy · 17/01/2012 16:47

Good plan dee! Glad your scan went well!Yes, we have picked our little boy's name too, not quite set on middle names yet, thinking of using my maiden name as one (DH has his maiden name as one of his so it'd be sort of a tradition too).
northern that does sound rather rotten and not very fair! 7 weeks is nothing though!
franki towels for who/what? Confused

OP posts:
Carlitawantsababy · 17/01/2012 16:49

Ohh, ohh, DH just home from work (has an appointment so early) with another bag of baby clothes! He has a colleague with a little boy and very good taste so it is very exciting - off to have a rummage! Grin

OP posts:
FrankiDon182 · 17/01/2012 17:46

Thats a nice idea Carlita (using your maiden as a middle name!) Both my boys will have my dads name as their middle names (Francis/Frank) hes such a wonderful role model it was a given !

When i said towels i meant maternity towels/sanitary pads. Should have made myself clearer ! Smile

How are you doing on the shopping front? Any freebies you are offered.. Grab with both hands is my advice! They grow too quickly/get too mucky for it to matter if somethong is 2nd hand! It only took me nearly 2 yeard to realise this Blush

broodylicious · 17/01/2012 17:48

franki - great tips, thank you Smile my sister said about big cotton pants too rather than disposables. You're defo not scaring me, it's great you can share your experience with us and think it's good for us to hear good and bad stuff about labour and especially the afterwards things that no-one else tells you!

Today I have had some rather odd kicks/punches. It's v low and makes it feel as though baby is literally going to come out! He/she has been bouncing on my bladder for a few weeks now, on and off, so I'd got used to that feeling when the little darling has found a new trick! Anyone else had this feeling? I googled it at lunch and saw quite a few women said they were feeling their babies right on their cervix at this stage (I've 9 weeks to go) so I'm not worrying about it, more amused than anything!

babydust27 · 17/01/2012 19:37

franki how many packs of pads would you buy?

Im expecting our 1st baby on 1st march and have bought 4 packs of the really thick ones (3 packs already packed in hospital bag) and 3 packs of the thinner ones. Im not sure if thats enough or whether i should pop back to boots

Carlitawantsababy · 17/01/2012 19:50

Hello babydust! Where did you spring from? Grin
Thanks for clarifying franki! I have some but not a lot yet, will need to get more.
Everything I have for the baby is second hand, we have been very frugal and have recently been given lots of clothes so now have plenty! Smile we're spending the money on the hypnobirthing course and birthing pool instead!
broody I haven't felt the boy that low down yet, must be odd! Am feeling little toes increasing higher though, getting near the ribs now. I'm actually feeling very lucky this week as all my books/apps are saying I'll be short of breath, crushed stomach, sore ribs and lungs and I've not had any of it! Wonder how long that'll last?! Smile

OP posts:
broodylicious · 17/01/2012 20:28

carlita I've become short of breath these last few weeks - feel like someone on 40 ciggies a day (well what I imagine them to feel like anyway!!) Main problem is walking up the stairs and then occasionally when I'm lying in bed. Have to have a little shuffle about and prop myself up on my body pillow then I can get comfy again or back to sleep. I've also had a few instances when my heart has literally raced - luckily with a few yoga breaths and quiet, I've been able to bring myself back to normal very quickly but it's been quite strange :o

Carlitawantsababy · 17/01/2012 20:48

I don't currently have stairs broody, perhaps that is helping me not notice! Long may it continue! The really tricky thing is leaning forward or bending down for stuff, it's ridiculous! Grin

OP posts:
dublindee · 17/01/2012 20:51

I'd defo recommend big granny pants instead of disposables ... Much comfier!
Also instead of maternity pads I got the always extra long night-time sanitary towels with wings as they are thinner so less bulky down there after all the messing around with your lady bits!!
Not wanting to be too graphic, when I had DS1 I had a bad tear as well and found that femépads were FAB! Bought in Mothercare or Boots they are a gel filled cushion that you freeze then you have a lint sleeve you put it into. Once that's done put against your lady garden pull up knickers and it numbs down there for a while. Means you get relief from the stinging.... Amazing! You get two gel cushions in the box so while one is in "use" you can be freezing the other. The lint sleeves are provided and iirc are flushable. You just sterilise the gel cushion after (and I put in icebox in a freezer bag as thought too icky even after sterilising it just to lob in on it's own!!) and off you pop!

We'd got rid of ALL our baby gear so had to start from scratch again this time but have managed to get away with £600 for everything! That is also including my breast pump, bottles, freezer bags for milk, breast pads (lansinoh ones rock!! Not noticeable thru bra etc and far more absorbent than avent) and nipple cream. Not bad eh?

BeeWi · 17/01/2012 21:43

Hi ladies. Please may I join your club? Been watching for a while but was a bit superstitious to join earlier on- how silly, I know.

I'm due 8th March with our 1st and we didn't find out the sex.

Both DH and I are from the UK but we moved to NZ a few years ago, so it's been bloody baking here during this last stint of the pregnancy.

My current angst is that at my last MW appt. the baby was measuring 5 weeks too big on fundal height Shock. Anyone else heard of this and it being ok/not a stupidly big baby? Both DH and I are tall (me 5'11", him 6'1") and both of us were big babies and the little'un was breech, so I'm hoping it's nothing to stress about.

Carlitawantsababy · 17/01/2012 22:10

Welcome bee! Grin wow, all these new 'faces' appearing now it's getting close, I wasn't expecting that! No advice re bump size/fundal height I'm afraid though my midwife said 3cm either side was normal so you could see it that you're only measuring 2 cm over? It's pretty chilly here at the moment, there's been frost on the grass in to the late morning. I'm guessing it's not hugely comfortable when your pregnant especially if, like me, you have to wear a tubi grip, support tights and a pelvic support belt when you go out! Grin
dee you have made me feel frugal indeed, I have spent a lot less than that! Smile

OP posts:
dublindee · 18/01/2012 01:29

I'm including nursing bras and everything in that spend Carlita! All baby related so goes under baby expense. Also we had to get a second car seat for hubby's car.... And there were some must have purchases for me like the false bottom for baby's cotbed, eezymed and a few other lifesavers!!!!

dublindee · 18/01/2012 01:30

Welcome beewi wave :o

Carlitawantsababy · 18/01/2012 09:38

I'm including everything too dee but I still win! [grin Wink I hadn't added it up until you posted. I have managed to get lots from freecycle so that has helped keep costs way down. I'm sure that in average spend terms you have done very well indeed. Smile

OP posts:
Carlitawantsababy · 18/01/2012 09:40

We only have 1 car seat (but that was free and were offered a second but only have one car!)

Hello to all newcomers!

Ooh, the bargain challenge! We've spent about £300 so far, including my maternity clothes etc. Our spare room is starting to look like Mothercare! Tons of maternity pads and breast pads. And our changing bag arrived from eBay today - £7.70. Bargain. Best news this week is that we're getting a buggy for free - a Jane Slalom Pro. I'm hoping it fits in the boot and is fairly good.

I think we have most things, but I still need/want to get:

Hypnobirthing CD
Sling
Cot bedding
Cot mattress
Bouncer
Electric breast pump and bottles
Changing mat
Muslins
Grobag
Nursing bras and tops

I have so many saved searches on eBay! And I'm another Freecycle devotee.

Carlitawantsababy · 18/01/2012 12:22

Ah..hadn't included maternity clothes, that adds £100 so brings me to £300, I only need to buy more breast pads (have 1 pack but DSis hasn't needed any in 6 weeks so unsure how many to buy) and more maternity pads (have 2 packs) and that price includes all the nappies we'll ever need (using washables). By the time we've paid for hypnobirthing course (£250) and birthing pool (£100) though we'll have reached £650 so bit more than you in the end dee!
By the way, I know a dee from Dublin. Do you live in London and lead a double life? Smile
