Hi Ladies, glad to hear everyone is doing so well and getting organised. I went to Boots this morning and got all of the toiletries for me and baby, that we need for our hospital bag. Just need to wash and iron all of the clothes we are taking, and then I can start packing a bag. Its getting scarily close now!!

I've got my midwife appointment in the morning, so hope all goes to plan with that. Smile

Will you be watching OBEM tonight? I'm stuck at work until 10, but I have it on record, so will have to catch up tomorrow!

Carlitawantsababy · 18/01/2012 22:26

Hi moffit hope the appointment goes well! I've been to aqua natal this evening then watched OBEM, not as good as last week I didn't think, some of this series is a bit dull, I found the previous ones very funny between births and more emotional all round, I didn't even have any tears this episode! Still, good timing that there's something baby related to watch, I think I've seen every episode of home birth diaries now as have started to see them a second time!
I'm reading the water birth book jezzabell and really enjoying it. It is written by my sister's pregnancy yoga teacher - how funny! Smile

Thanks for the welcome, ladies.
Wow, Carlita, that's a lot of extra stuff to wear to go out. Luckily I've not had to wear any supports although after about half an hour of walking the dog it feels like my bump has turned to tightened lead and it's mega uncomfy to keep going. In fact, earlier in the week I realised how bad it was when I was desperate to wee, with a bump of lead and still 4kms from home. Longest walk home of my life! I liked your perspective on the monsterbump too. Fingers crossed it'll have just stayed the same when I next see the MW.

Moffit- I did the big baby wash/iron last week. Makes everything seem so real and those little onesies etc melted my heart. I miss Boots and decent shops- think I'm going to have to do some online shopping to get the final bits and bobs we need.

dublindee · 19/01/2012 07:59

Carlita - living in North Wales for last 7 and a half years. So it's not me I'm afraid! So in the end I'll have "won" the spending challenge by £50 - yay us!! :o
Hoping today is productive - we got our bedroom redecorated before Xmas and finished the wardrobes (ikea) a week and a half ago. We now need to rehouse all the clothes shoved stored in front room downstairs back into the wardrobes (groan)
As there were delays the clothes will need freshening up before going back so I have an enormous task ahead. If I can make a decent start on it today I will be very happy!

Carlitawantsababy · 19/01/2012 10:44

dee Ooh, I love north Wales! Don't envy your task today but 'tis one of those things that'll feel great when it's finished. You win as long as yours includes nappies! Wink

Just had my m/w appointment - all fine except that she measured me at 28cm (fundal height). As I'm 31 weeks this was just on the far end of normal. She waited and the baby started to wriggle about, and measured me again and I was 29cm. She says that she's happy to leave it for now, but if I am still under average next time she will look at sending me for a scan. I know it's nothing to worry about really, but it won't stop me from having a slightly more anxious 2 weeks!

knitterati · 19/01/2012 11:14

Welcome to the new folk on the thread! Smile

word I'd take that as permission to eat for 2 until your next MW appt! Wink A similar thing happened to me over Christmas, so happily tucked into all the Xmas mince pies, chocolates, puddings etc and it seemed to do the trick Grin

Can't compete on the baby budgets I'm afraid. Blush The miyo baby hammock and NCT classes put pay to that!

Carlitawantsababy · 19/01/2012 11:31

Exactly knitterati! Grin I've read word of doctors and midwives or two midwives getting measurements 2-3 cm different seconds apart, it's really not very accurate! Smile

OP posts:
broodylicious · 19/01/2012 13:48

I'm with you knitterati on the budget front - especially if I'm including yoga and NCT! We've not gone over the top but we have spent quite a bit on the little one. We had our boiler serviced on fri and it's in the 2nd bedroom, where a lot of baby's things are being stored. The plumber spotted our graco sweetpeace swing, pointed at it and said "this one item will save your life! my lad was a real crier so we bought this in desperation - 30 seconds in this and he's fast asleep. Best thing you'll have bought!" I like that. Whether it works for us is another matter but nice to hear!

Carlitawantsababy · 19/01/2012 13:58

Sounds like a good recommendation broody! Grin

Wordweaver · 19/01/2012 15:56

Thanks everyone - I am trying not to worry but must admit it has put a bit of a dampener on me today.

Jezzabell · 19/01/2012 16:44

Carlita glad you are enjoying the book.

Just killing a few mins at work, going to skive off 15 mins early as in aonther office today. Was consdiering a swim, but can't be arsed to walk to the gym so am going to go home and do a bit of yoga. Been pretty active this week. 1.5 hr walk on sunday, 30 lengths swim on Tuesday, had the last of my Lazy Daisy birthing classes (yoga ish) last night and then have yoga again tomorrow. So perhaps a little bit of yoga and lie on the sofa. Baby seems to be making me ache on my right side, it's ok when i'm not at work. Sitting at a desk is rubbish, roll on 10th feb.

Been looking at baby stuff on ebay and keeping an eye on prams and slings. Hopefully get some bits.

Met DH at lunch time and we had a look at some really cute baby clothes!

Hope you all have a nice evening.

FrankiDon182 · 19/01/2012 19:19

Amazed at the mumas who have managed to stick to such a marvellous budget. Those saved pennies will really come in handy when babies arrive.. The equipment they need is never ending..
Just cant get the hang of freecycle myself, will keep having a little browse though!

Wish i could compete on the budget front, double buggys are expensive business Blush Although 2nd time round you do know what is a waste of money so saving on lots i suppose!

Hope you are all having a wonderful week. How are you all sleeping? I have been finding it very hard to get back to sleep once woken (by my DS!) whereas usually i would have no trouble falling back to sleep!!

Also the poster concerned about their fundal height, try not to worry! I was always at LEAST 3cm out with my first son, had lots of growth scans, given diet sheets etc and my son was born at 40+6 at 7lb11oz. I am also very small this time (get sent to early pregnany unit at my appointments Blush even though i'm nearly 30 weeks grrrr)
Good luck and dont stress x

dublindee · 19/01/2012 20:26

Franki - don't forget this is the 3rd pregnancy for me.
First time round for ds1 hubby and I suffered a massive attack of PFBS (precious first baby syndrome). Top of range and brand new everything! We spent a small fortune. Second time round DS2 got most of the stuff from Ds1 and some new stuff.
When ds2 got to 3yo we had decided two was plenty and we were "hanging up our boots" and gave away EVERYTHING! DS3 has snuck in under our radar so with me up for redundancy at the end of 2011 we decided to make a list of everything we needed and then try to get the best quality for as cheap as possible!
The local crèche had a baby sale where we got some amazing bargains, Kiddicare clearance stuff and baby events in Tesco & Asda have meant this is the "cheapest" pregnancy!! If I'd only been like this with Ds1!!!!

71 days and counting. Can't wait for my first cuddles with him :o :o

broodylicious · 19/01/2012 21:45

Echo dee on the asda and kiddicare front - we've got some great stuff from both places. Kiddicare price match too so we spent a long time having a look at car seats, isofix base and pram/buggy etc and then went to the actual kiddicare store a few weeks ago armed with a print out of where we had found it cheaper - they matched everything and so we got it all there with no worries about loads of expensive p&p charges.
As I said before, we are spending quite a bit of money on our precious first born but we've spent wisely on quality essentials rather than loads of cheaper stuff that'll break, doesn't look right or need replacing quickly. Hope that doesn't make me sound snotty - if you knew me in the real world, you'd know I really am not like that Grin

dublindee · 19/01/2012 22:08

Broody you are soooo entitled to suffer from PFBS - I did!!! :o
Don't ever apologise for wanting what's best for your baby, just shows what an awesome mum you're gonna be
I'm happy with all our purchases and total amount spent and Carlita it DOES include nappies, wipes and nappy sacks!!!
Hoping to get good sleep tonight. Got another busy day of washing ironing and sorting tomorrow :(. Boo hiss!

Sleep well girls or should I say Oíche Mhaith or Nos Da??
(Showing off now as I've been going to Welsh lessons since October as I'm determined my boys won't be able to speak a language I can't! - Typical Irish mammy wanting to keep tabs on her boys!)

Anyway - sweet dreams :) xx

FrankiDon182 · 20/01/2012 07:11

I suffered from PFBS too! I think all my family did also, he was the first grandchild and nephew on both sides and ILs had DH late in life (due to fertility issues) so didnt expect to ever meet their Grandbabies! Majorly spoilt in every way!

Thanks for the kiddicare tip, i never think to look on there!

Waterbirths sound fantastic, i planned for with my 1st. Spent alot of time in the bath towards the end of my pregnancy and in the hospital but yet when i was offered the birthing pool when the time came i didnt feel secure in the water and wanted to walk as much as pissible!
Be prepared for a flexible birthing plan !!

Any tips on handling 2DCs DublinDee? I absolutely love motherhood. Really feel like i have embraced it and am amazed everyday of what happiness someone so small can bring to a family. (i'm even secretly finding his current 'NO' stage quite cute !) nervous of how i'll share my attention with 2 boys?

Also what are you experience with double prams? We have purchased a Bugaboo Donkey and although small im now obsessed with looking at shop doors to see if i'd fit in lol. My new hobby- how sad!

What we all thinking pain relief wise?

Happy Friday People Smile

FrankiDon182 · 20/01/2012 07:12

Lots of typos in previous post Blush excuse me, i havent had a cup of tea yet!

BeeWi · 20/01/2012 09:16

Frankie - thanks for the reassurance on the fundal height. So did you always measure big on your first? Or was it the other way? Kind of wish I'd been measured sooner that 32 weeks so I could know if this was a one off or not. Got next appt on Weds so we'll see.
I liked your typo about 'pissable', it reminded me of the guy in 'Allo Allo.

For pain relief I'm thinking TENS, water, G&A. Would rather avoid an epidural but being quite pragmatic that if it's a long birth an I need on will just go with the flow. First time round, so no idea what it'll really be like. Lots of Kiwi women seem pretty hardcore anti-drugs though, which is a bit intimidating. Luckily my midwife is from the UK originally, so she's a bit more 'understanding'.

Sleep has been crap for me in the last few weeks. Weeping 2-3 times a night, baking hot and so achey. I miss sleeping on my tummy so much! Anyone got any good tips for staving off hip and shoulder pain from side sleeping?

Carlitawantsababy · 20/01/2012 09:25

Lots of piss related typos! bee, I assume (and hope) you are weeing 2-3 times a night rather than weeping? franki I'm very similar to bee on what I hope for pain relief wise, TENS, water, hypnobirthing techniques with gas and air as a last resort but again, no idea what it'll be like though! Smile

OP posts:
BeeWi · 20/01/2012 09:28

Oops. Yep, defo weeing, not weeping!

dublindee · 20/01/2012 09:36

Franki I have to tell you it was a bit if a culture shock going from 1-2! At the start when you're trying to establish a routine with a newborn it's so important to be gentle with yourself and admit you're NOT superwoman and CAN'T do everything! Matthew was 22 months old when his brother arrived on the scene so he wasn't tiny and was very aware of what was going on. He was included as much as possible and told that we'd brought Christopher "home to him".
I remember thinking at 6 months in with the two that it was SO easy with one!! At that stage we had a system cracked that worked for us. Jump from 1-2 was scary but I wouldn't change a thing. Matt is 7 next month, Chris is 5 and I've taken a few if their friends and them out for trips etc at various stages along the way, so having another little boy around the place doesn't scare me as much as it did during my 2nd pregnancy.

I never used a double buggy - Matthew loved to walk so I bought a buggy board for the pram/buggy and he rode on that when he was tired. Otherwise he had a little hand strap (didn't do reins) and he held onto the pram to "help" push the baby around the shops etc!! Worked for us but depends on your age gap Franki!!!

Pain relief for first I needed an epidural as long labour and Matt was stuck so needed ventouse to get him out.
Second time round things sped along lovely and I coped on gas and air and a shot of pethadine.

This time I would love to do g&a and pethadine again but after my consultation with the anaesthetist on Tuesday he has advised if baby is over 9.5lbs that I need to request an epidural early on. This is so that if I do need assisted delivery it will be easier for them to give me pain relief early on (I've a high BMI) and it will give me a better birthing experience. Now I can see his point, but if I can avoid the big scary stabby needle in my back, then I will - currently they estimate baby weight of 8-9lbs at 40weeks (have another growth scan mid-feb) but this could change... Watch this space basically!!

Carlitawantsababy · 20/01/2012 09:58

That's very cute dee 'helping' to push the baby! Grin

Happy Friday all, 3 weeks left of work for me! I'm very excited as I've just found out my sis is in labour! She's 5 weeks ahead of me, and baby is coming 9 days early. She lives in Australia and although we've not seen eachother since last summer we talk on the phone at least 3 times a week so have been talking babies lots. I was told at about 9am that contractions are 2-3 min apart. If she manages to have him on the next 3 hours they'll have the same birthday! Hope it all goes well for her, and also for me as I don't really want to hear any horror stories to make me worry about my birth (hope that doesn't sound too selfish, but I'm sure you understand!) So I shall have a new little Australian nephew soon Grin

Just wanting it to be 2pm now as that's when i finish on a friday for yoga. I'm finding sitting in the chair at work all day is giving me an ache in my ribs on my right side that's really annoying. I get up and move around and do stretches in the toilets and have my seat height ok and a foot rest, but it's just sitting in this position all day makes me hurt :(

Been sleeping okish. I wake up for wees about 2-4 times a night and what's annoying is that I don't really need a big wee. But have been going back to sleep ok. It's just shit when the alarm goes off at 7am.

We've been doing ok on the baby stuff and have been given quite a fair bit. I'm going to buy the basics and see what else people give us or offer to buy before we spend too much money. Have probably spent about £100 so far (including the petrol to pick up cousins cot and pushchair) as have been using lots of vouchers. Still need to get a few bits of clothes to start off with, but don't want to buy too much now.

Hope you all have a good day.
