Shiny new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
broodylicious · 25/03/2012 17:09

Oooh ladies! Things are happening! Had two bloody shows this morning - first just in loo and then second in the bath (sorry if tmi, I'm not telling anyone in real life so I can only get it off my chest here haha!!!) I've since had quite strong period pains and what im calling braxton hicks because they're not regular enough to be bona fide contractions. Quite exciting!! (even though I know I could still end up being induced on Tuesday as it doesn't always mean labour is imminent). Just had to share!! Smile

TroubleAndFyfe · 25/03/2012 17:33

Woo hoo broody! Grin keep us posted!

ardenbird · 25/03/2012 19:22

Exciting, broody! I've had some heavy pink discharge and some irregular "tightenings". Last night they were coming about once an hour, and I wondered if things were kicking off, but they've slowed down and are only coming every few hours now. It would have been cool to be one of the few to actually hit the due date -- especially as today is a one-hour shorter target than normal. But not looking likely now.

At last it's nice to know our bodies at at least aware it's around the right time :)

TroubleAndFyfe · 26/03/2012 06:40

That's exciting too arden! Looks like there'll be more babies on the thread soon! Grin

TroubleAndFyfe · 26/03/2012 07:18

Hi all, I've started a thread on post natal groups and added all the birth details I could easily find on my phone, sorry if I've missed anything. Add your details and post there once everyone has had their babies if you want to carry on the group as a little parenting support thread/ to see how all these babies develop. Grin

KikiRC · 26/03/2012 07:37

Good luck, Broody & Arden! X

BeeWi · 26/03/2012 09:33

So good to hear Ivy is doing well now, Kiki. Must've been pretty worrying for you.

Excited for you both, Broody & Arden! Imminent baby arrivals = super exciting!

Am finding Erin isn't a great sleeper, which is pretty tough going. Hoping we'll turn a corner with that soon. Husband is back at work on Thurs which is pretty nerve-wracking. Fingers crossed!

TroubleAndFyfe · 26/03/2012 09:53

Sad bee that must be difficult. Is it just at night that she's not a great sleeper or all the time? It's do difficult the advice of sleep when the baby sleeps, I aim for 1 two hour nap with Fyfe per day but don't always manage that, there are lots of other things in life like cooking and eating that are also easier when baby I asleep aren't there? The most important thing, I think, is to remember that everyone will have a phase like this with their baby at some point and they're lying if they tell you otherwise so you're hopefully just getting it out of the way early. I feel for you though as it's just tiring being a new mum and feeding th

TroubleAndFyfe · 26/03/2012 09:57

...them without losing out on loads of sleep!
Sorry, posted early by mistake! Grin

KikiRC · 26/03/2012 10:46

Are you breastfeeding, Bee? It's been interesting for me doing a bit of both which I hadn't obviously planned. I find with BFing that each feed (on demand) takes ages and she sometimes dozes off and if I'm in bed (which is where I usually feed, 'cos it's the cosiest) I can gently slide her off, cuddle her for a bit and she may have a sleep for a while, but generally not all that long. Whereas with the bottle it zonks her out and she sleeps for extended periods. I'm sure this is why a lot of people switch to formula feeding. We've been bottle feeding at night every two- three hours and she pretty much sleeps all the way between feeds in her basket next to the bed which just gives us both a break.

Last night we did one bottle feed and one breast feed and after the BF I just let her fall asleep with me, and she actually slept for a few hours- but if I'd tried to put her in her basket I'm fairly sure she'd have woken up and not settled. It's a balancing trick, isn't it? I love her sleeping in with me, but don't want to develop bad habits....

I feel I could almost exclusively breast feed now, it's working out a lot better, but because it takes so long I would literally spend most of the day feeding, it's trying to fit in all the practical things that need doing, isn't it? I've taken her out the last couple of days & she falls asleep straight away once she's on the move... I've a friend lending me a soft 'banana' sling- I can't use the one I have because she can't fit into it comfortably with her hip brace... also, the pram should arrive tomorrow, then I'll feel a lot more mobile... X

TroubleAndFyfe · 26/03/2012 11:31

I'm sure it is why a lot of people ff but there are also phases with sleep, we're in a very good one as since Fyfe was born he wakes every 3 (4 if we're lucky) hours for a change and feed which takes about an hour so we get 2 hours sleep at a time (me and him that is, DH doesn't even stir! Hmm) Grin I know this won't last forever but also have a friend who mix fed (very successfully like you kiki, breast fed in the day for 11 months!) whose baby slept 6-8 hours solid in the night until 5 months then started waking for a feed every hour on the hourConfused

broodylicious · 26/03/2012 15:20

So Absolutely thrilled to announce that I am now a mummy!!!!! Baby daughter born this morning at 11.18am, weighing 8lb 9oz. No drugs at all - not even gas and air - but did have to have vonteuse delivery as baby wanted to stay in as long as she could! As we had our polyhydramnios, she couldnt get straight to my breast but it wasnt long before she found it! No name as yet, but we will decide in next few days and of course update you. V v v proud of myself and delighted with such a beautiful little girl GrinGrinGrin

KikiRC · 26/03/2012 15:40

Congratulations, Broody- well done! Take it easy and hope you have a lovely cosy first few days. xxx

TroubleAndFyfe · 26/03/2012 17:05

Yay broody! Congratulations on your baby girl! Thanks Bear

TroubleAndFyfe · 26/03/2012 17:23

Oh and hooray for your pram arriving kiki, that'll be great! We were in the old town and on the beach today, the sunshine has been amazing! Grin

knitterati · 26/03/2012 18:55

Aww! Congrats broody!

Any more signs Arden?

Had reflexology on Saturday & some period pains yesterday morning, which disappeared. This morning, I had a show and a stretch and sweep. MW said I was a good 2cm, but baby's chin needs to tuck in so it comes crown first IYSWIM...bulging membranes, so very 'favourable' (horrid term).
So have been on a long walk this afternoon and currently bouncing on my ball to get things moving..no cx's yet or waters breaking, so fingers crossed folks!

TroubleAndFyfe · 26/03/2012 19:12

Woo hoo! C'mon baby knitterati! Grin

ardenbird · 27/03/2012 00:50

Congrats broody! Way to go on beating the induction :)

More irregular tightenings, but nothing consistent. We took another big trip into the shops today...Lots of walking (crutching) around. I'm hoping exercise will help. Also bought some fresh pineapple. Just had some.

Good luck, knitterati!

BeeWi · 27/03/2012 21:57

Ooh, congrats Broody. That's brilliant news. Looking forward to hearing what you've decided to name her! So cool that you managed to get in there before the induction too.

Kiki & Trouble - thanks for your kind messages...think I'm just in a bit of a guff because of lack of sleep, so it's lovely to just be able to chat over it, iykwim.
I'm ebf at the moment but seriously considering replacing one of the night feeds with a formula feed, just to give myself a bit of a break as I'm absolutely knackered. If it zonked her out for a bit and gave be a rest i'd be graetful. Our problem is a slightly odd one- she wakes up like clockwork every 3 hours (start of one feed to start of next) and is a very effective feeder- I call her sharky, she's so keen- and usually the feed is done within half an hour. We then change, top/tail, coo etc until she shows me any tiredness signs, at which point I'll swaddle her and put her down. The problem is, she won't sleep unless she's being rocked. So I'll sit there for ages rocking her bassinet. I'll think she's sleeping and stop, only for her to wake within minutes and cry until you rock her again. This can go on until pretty much the next feed, so sometimes I'll get 10 or 20 minutes to relax and not rock her before I start the next feeding cycle...just exhausting. Also seem to have lost my appetite which I think is making me tired. It's so strange, I had a really sweet tooth and one hell of an appetite in pregnancy and it seems to have just gone at the flick of a switch. One positive is that the baby weight is falling off!

I know it's a minor problem in the big scheme and I'm lucky to have a baby who is such a keen feeder and is putting on weight etc...it's just that I feel absolutely killed because of the ack of downtime when she sleeps because of having to have input into that part of her cycle too. Dreading husband going back to work tomorrow because he'll do the rocking so I can get a bit of rest at the moment whereas it'll just be me on my own tomorrow.

Any ideas on how to put to sleep a baby who is a bit of a sleep refusenik?

KikiRC · 27/03/2012 22:34

I do sympathise, Bee- a lack of sleep makes everything so much harder. You've probably tried this already, but could you swaddle her and then rock her to sleep in your arms or by walking up and down etc before you put her in the cot?

I can only put Ivy in her cot when she's already asleep or absolutely zonked out. If she was still awake she wouldn't settle at all. Her favourite thing is falling asleep in my arms, or next to me in my bed. If she's in a deep sleep I can transfer her...

One other thing- could you try feeding her just a little longer? Just to make her a bit sleepier- or does she detach and not want more?

Good luck for tonight! XX

broodylicious · 27/03/2012 23:09

Thanks all Grin we are totally besotted with our little girl! I dont think mr broody and I have looked at each other for longer than 10 seconds since she was born!! So we've decided on our names... Poppy soriaya. Poppy had been a fave for a long time but you never know whether it'd be right for baby! About to make the announcement to friend's and family... V exciting!! Xxx

TroubleAndFyfe · 27/03/2012 23:26

Lovely name broody! It's pretty amazing falling in love again isn't it? Smile
bee that is an interesting problem, so she's the same as Fyfe - wakes like clockwork every 3 hours... Have you tried co sleeping? Laying down with her in your arms and both taking a nap? I know lots of people aren't keen but it is wonderful for us and there are guidelines to do it safely. Other than that have you thought about a motorised rocking seat or does it have to be you doing the rocking? I'd agree with kiki too, can you manage to get her to take a little more milk or is that her satisfied?
I've had a bit of a tough day with Fyfe, he's been very grumpy all day, will feed for a short time then scream and cry and scream and I try everything (including offering the breast again) and nothing is right until eventually he either changes his mind and wants more milk or falls asleep. I've found it really hard as previously he'd only cried when he had his nappy changed, I'd always caught his hunger signs early and kept him close so horrible to have him crying so much and me not know why, even being out in the sling didn't do it, he usually goes straight to sleep. Wondering if maybe it's a bit of growing pains or similar? He seems more settled this evening so fingers crossed things will be back to normal tomorrow! He's just nodded off after his change and another very short (20 min) feed so time for me to get some kip too (I hope) Smile

KikiRC · 28/03/2012 07:33

How was your night, Bee?

Trouble- it's not a touch of colic, is it? That seems to be the first thing people suggest when babies are unexpectedly grizzly.. Hope he feels happier today.

Lovely name, Broody.

xx

ardenbird · 28/03/2012 11:16

So exciting to hear about the little ones :) no arrival here yet... Some stronger contractions yesterday, but got progressively weaker as the day went on.

Went for a sweep today, but they couldn't reach the cervix as her head was pushing it back. Don't even know if I'm dialated, as she said she could only just touch the edge.

I'm booked in for a sweep again on Monday, and I'll get an induction date then. The consultant said we want to wait as much as possible for me, as drugs/induction mean more of a chance my heart will do something weird. But I hope that nature takes over before Monday, even!

TroubleAndFyfe · 28/03/2012 14:51

Fingers crossed arden! Smile
I think it may have been growing pains/growth spurt kiki, thankfully he is back to normal today! Grin
