Shiny new thread!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Moffit · 04/03/2012 19:09

Thanks Broody. I was planning on having a water birth in the midwife led unit, but that was when I was low risk. As soon as I was told I had pre-eclampsia, I thought that would go out of the window. They were monitoring me for a few days in the close monitoring unit on the labour ward and they prepared us that they might have to deliver early by either induction or C section. I was told on the Tuesday evening that I was going on the list for a C section on the Wednesday morning, (as all of the levels, eg. blood pressure, protein and blood tests were rising) so I did have a little time to get used to it. I was dead against having an epidural previously, so that was the biggest hurdle to overcome, especially with my fear of needles (but I'd had so many by then). The worst needle was the steroid injections that they gave me to strengthen the babys lungs. The numbness is quite a strange feeling, and it took longer to wear off than I thought. But the recovery wasn't too bad. The first 48 hours were the worst, but I felt much better when I had the stitches removed after 7 days. Cant drive for 6 weeks, and told not to exercise, lift anything heavier than baby or do housework for 12 weeks. Hope that answers most of your questions! xx

Congratulations moffit! Enjoy your daughter! Grin

Wowzers-so much brilliant news in this thread since I last checked!

Jezabel, Carlita & Moffit - just huge congratulations to the three of you and your precious bundles! Absolutely lovely news- very well done!

Carlita - loved your story about your birth and so good to hear that it was such a positive experience. Exactly the kind of thing us first timers need to hear at the moment.

I ended up in hospital yesterday after I sprung a bit of a leak in my hindwaters. Seems to have gone away now though. Bit gutted because I thought it was my waters had gone and would be able to have a natural birth and no induction. No contractions though. Boo! Was hooked up to a ctg for a long while and had an internal exam and then sent home. Looks like I've got 2 days for the baby to come along before the full induction process kicks off...come on baby...let's be having you. Keep your fingers crossed for me folks!

Carlitawantsababy · 05/03/2012 07:59

Good luck to you bee! I went for a long brisk walk whilst inhaling clary sage as regularly as possible (must've looked dodgy!) don't know if it helped or not of course. Either way you'll have your baby in your arms really soon! Grin

congratulations moffit! Great to hear about the safe arrival of baby Pheobe.

beewi how exciting! Hope labour gets moving soon!

Still just over 2weeks to go for me. No signs of labour yet, apart from some period type pains this morning, which have since passed. Patience, patience...Smile

DorcasGailen · 05/03/2012 08:56

Not been on the thread for a while and then read the fantastic news of 3 babies!! Congratulations carlita moffit and jezzabell Lovely news.

Wordweaver · 05/03/2012 09:03

Congratulations, Moffit - and welcome to Phoebe! Wow, it is all happening for this group isn't it!

Two weeks and two days to go for me - no signs as yet!

KikiRC · 05/03/2012 13:05

That's great news, Moffit- glad to hear you're both doing well.

Glad there are still a few people left on the thread, too! I've a feeling I'll be on my due date or after...

Carlita, once you've had a chance to get your breath back I'll ask you a few questions about the Conquest hospital- how did you find them? X

Carlitawantsababy · 05/03/2012 17:32

Totally amazing kiki, best experience ever! Are you around on Thursday to meet for a coffee? Smile

OP posts:
broodylicious · 05/03/2012 18:02

kiki and knitterati - I'm totally with you!! Every time I get a big kick or a funny feeling somewhere, I think "this is it, this is it..." but, er, no it isn't!! After my MW told me on Friday that she thinks the consultant i see on thursday will have me induced before my due date (because of my polyhydramnios), ive been so excited but then a bit disappointed with the thought of it because I want the feeling of my waters breaking randomly at home (like carlita had!!) or trying to bring it all on ourselves (I want to try some of those old wives tales!!) we'll see anyway!!

broodylicious · 05/03/2012 18:04

And I particularly love the fact that carlita is up for going out for a coffee so soon after giving birth. Such encouraging and positive thoughts Grin

KikiRC · 05/03/2012 21:09

Would be lovely to meet you and Fyfe, Carlita, though I've a big, boring board meeting at 3pm in the town centre on Thursday (maternity leave hasn't quite kicked in yet, boo!) The only thing that would put me off is that I still haven't shaken off this horrible cold-which I wouldn't want to pass on to you or the little one- so shall we see how my germs are doing by Weds/ Thurs?

Just had my last yoga class and met a nice girl who's due on 24th with her second who lives in the Old Town, too, BTW. We'll have to gather a few people at some point. X

KikiRC · 05/03/2012 21:25

Sorry- that's a bit of a rambling message- I meant I'd have to meet before 3pm.... let's hope my snot has subsided by then! X

Carlitawantsababy · 05/03/2012 21:39

Sounds good and if not I'm around the week after too. Grin

Carlita- I've just heard the girl from yoga due the same day as you had a daughter, yesterday. I just know I'm going to be the last! X

Carlitawantsababy · 06/03/2012 17:35

Grin ah brilliant, would be good to meet her at some point!

Broody, Kiki, Knitterati - does this stage remind you of the symptom spotting of TTC at all? Can't help but hope every twinge is a sign of labour! It's the same kind of feeling I got at the start, if that makes sense? Kind of a nice circle to it all.

So last night I was hoping that I might be going into labour- very achey/pingy back, ridiculously tight bump. Had to get up and walk around and have some paracetamol but nada. Kind of getting resigned to baby not coming before induction. Boo! So, I've got just under 9 hours before I have to be at the hospital to get things kicked off. Think maybe this baby needs a pep talk, along the lines of 'if you're good and start coming out for mummy...[insert bribe here]'. Think it'll work?

Anyways, best of luck to you ladies who're still waiting. Broody, I hope things go well with your consultant on Thursday. And to those mums who already have their nippers, hopefully will be joining your club soon. Smile Any good vibes being sent/fingers crossed for me in the next 48 hours greatly appreciated.

broodylicious · 06/03/2012 22:21

Thanks bee that's v kind Smile Have you tried any of the old wives tales (sex, curry, bumpy car ride etc)? I would love to try them - if it's safe of course - so I can avoid the whole induction process. I spoke to the NCT tutor's apprentice tonight and told her my fears about drugs involved with the induction (if you have one drug, it's likely to result in another and another and another...) and she said the docs give you so long for the pessary to work, after which they encourage you to be as active as possible to get things moving, then if they break your waters, same again. I feel a bit more reassured now.... Although time will tell I guess!!
Good luck for tomorrow, looking forward to hearing your birth announcement soon Smile xxx

KikiRC · 06/03/2012 22:23

I know what you mean, BeeWi- I've had loads of period pains/ back aches/ sore pelvis/ Braxton Hicks a-go-go etc- but I've still two weeks 'til my due date... so I think it's probably just things limbering up...

9 hours for you though!! Or 8 by now. Gosh that's all very imminent. Do you feel prepared? I'm just plowing along as normal, otherwise I'll just sit about and drive myself mad for potentially a whole month... Best of luck, really hope it goes well. My mum was induced both times and had very straightforward & quick labours. X

BeeWi · 06/03/2012 22:47

Thanks for the kind wishes, Broody & Kiki. Smile

I liked hearing about your mum's experiences, Kiki...fingers crossed for one like those! And that does sound reassuring, Broody. The hospital is right next to a big hill range (actually on a fault line, would you believe?! Awesome forward planning there hehe) so will go out and do a walk up there hopefully after tomorrow's set of gels, if nothing has happened by then. I think the plan is: go in at 7 tonight, ctg monitor and first gels in; stay overnight; 8am next gels if nothing has happened. Break waters if possible later. Drip around 4 or 5pm if nothing has happened. May try and bargain not to have drip and be left longer though if I can. On Sunday my cervix was closed, so not holding too much hope that anything has changed.

Been trying lots of the old wives' tales, Broody. Had 2x hot curries in the last week...just made the baby go bananas in my belly! Had pineapple (could only manage half at once though because it was so acidic it made my tongue feel like it was going to drop off). Been on walks every day, been on gravel tracks in the car. Not had any sex for a couple of weeks because I feel like a beached whale Blush and about as sexy as Jabba the Hut. Nice!

I do feel fairly prepared in terms of being organised, Kiki. Just sticking a last load of washing through and having final hoover around but I'm not sure I feel mentally prepared, if that makes sense. It all feels kind of abstract, if you know what I mean...like, I know I'm having a baby in the next day or so but I just can't imagine what it'll be like. And how it'll be to come home as a family rather than a couple. It's so odd just not being able to imagine what it'll be like. Anyone else feel that way? I think it's partly because pregnancy is a long old road and then to finally be nearly at your destination and to have a date when you'll be there is quite a mental shift. Think it'll be good just to get on with things and stop over-thinking them! I think it is good to just plow on as you are, Kiki...I can def empathise with how it drives you nutty otherwise!

knitterati · 07/03/2012 09:30

bee yes, it does feel a bit TTC-esque! On the look out for anything that might resemble labour!

Hope mini-bee arrives without too much intervention! Know what you mean about going from a couple to a family. It's all a bit surreal (and exciting). Anyhow. Hope little one is en route by now!

broodylicious · 07/03/2012 11:48

Defo like the TTC/2 week wait!! I have a funny feeling right in my fanjo (I've never ever written that word down, feels quite rude haha!!) but I am positive it's just BH. I had the strongest I've had yet as I arrived at work yday - it was my last day yday so it would've been amusing had I gone into labour there!! It went rock hard plus this funny feeling in my bits, I had to stop half way across the car park Blush
Want baby to come soon as I'm a bit bored on mat leave already Wink

KikiRC · 07/03/2012 13:20

Is it a funny twinge/ shooting pain feeling you're getting Broody? I've been having that- like it's baby's head hitting a nerve or something? Certainly all feels a bit peculiar down there...

Carlita- I'm still producing admirable levels of snot, so maybe it's better to wait 'til next week to meet you both? I'd hate to pass it on. But I'm 'officially' signing myself off on maternity leave as of Monday, so other than a few casual tea commitments lined up, I'm fairly free as of then...

broodylicious · 07/03/2012 16:51

Yes it's a strong twinge, feels almost like my bits are going to come open at the same time. V hard to describe! Glad someone else has been having something similar too Smile
