Oh absolutely carlita totally agree - no-one can plan for every eventuality in any single tiny bit of life, let alone where there's another human being involved! I defo am still going to try for a water birth at the hospital when it's my time and try to do a little g&a as poss - like you say, that's because we thought things through and ideally what we'd like. All I meant is that none of you have come back on to the board and moaned or been absolutely devastated if you didn't get exactly what you'd planned for in the birth. For me, that is encouraging. I am sorry if I've caused any offence, not my intention Blush

Carlitawantsababy · 13/03/2012 14:45

Oh no! No offence caused, was agreeing with you, sorry if it came out sounding arsey!Blush

AIBU to want to tell my MIL to just eff off?! She is truly doing my head in!! She cannot help but come round every time with a bag of baby stuff despite v kind, friendly and polite words asking her to do otherwise. She has bought a lot of stuff, some of it absolutely needed and wanted and lovely, but then stuff that we've already bought ourselves or my family have given to us. I am not ungrateful - as my own darling mother suggested!! - but I just don't want her to keep on buying stuff we've already got as its a waste of money and space in our already compact house. And, actually, not to come over all nasty but this is our baby and isn't it natural for me to retain control over what we've got for him/her? I'm sure she is just excited and there's a fair amount of final week preggo hormone impregnated in this message, but I just need her to stop this now before I lose my snotty rag with her!!

broodylicious · 13/03/2012 21:09

With that rage dealt with....

carlita beaut name!! I wonder what we will change our names to once out babes are out? Took me ages to think of broodylicious, so with severe baby brain, this could be tricky ;) Hope you enjoyed baby club today? Can't wait to get meeting other mummies - I know my sister has gained so much from attending her various local sessions.

Moffit · 13/03/2012 21:33

Congratulations BeeWi on the birth of baby Erin!!

Welcome on Arden, hope all is going well for you in these last few days!

I can't believe how quickly time goes, my precious little bundle will be 4 weeks old tomorrow! She shouldn't even be here for another week? I'm taking her to baby group at the clinic tomorrow afternoon (for first time mums), so it will be nice to meet some local mums with new babies too! Smile

ardenbird · 13/03/2012 23:32

Hi! Thanks for new welcomes :)

carlita - really encouraging that the SPD has gotten better! :)

broody - you're thinking just along the lines I was. I find it very encouraging to know that even if things don't go to plan that it can still work out. I'm planning a pool for pain relief -- I plan to get out for the birth, but willing to consider staying in if I'm happy! I know I can't have opiate shots (bad reaction), so if water and G&A don't cut it it will be across the hall to CLU for an epidural. But there is always the possibility of the unexpected. And I've got a weird condition that might make my heart go bonkers during labour, but no one knows and I really hope nothing happens, because no one really understands what's going on there.

KikiRC · 14/03/2012 08:00

Hello, congrats and welcome....

My waters broke this morning, so off to the hospital shortly to be checked... Only cramps so far rather than contractions I think, so may well be back home later on 'til things gear up a bit.. I don't have a fancy phone, so no online access for a while. X

broodylicious · 14/03/2012 11:34

Ooooh here's hoping kiki Thinking of you and sending positive vibes your way xx

TroubleAndFyfe · 14/03/2012 15:01

Grin oh my word kiki! There you go! Hope it all goes really well for you! Grin

I'm out! Baby girl born on 12.03.12. All went pretty smoothly in the end and I almost got the birth I wanted!

We went in in the 11th at about 10pm because I started to bleed. I was planning a vbac so went in and onto labour ward. Wasn't sure what would happen! Had been having period type cramps for the last couple of evenings but they went nowhere. So arrived at labour ward, was examined and found to be 3/4 cm, and in early labour. Pain was mild though and completely bearable. Waters still intact. I then proceeded to contract mildly for the next 12 or so hours. Then another examination - still 3cm! Bit down heartened but not much I could do. Went for a walk round the hospital and kept as active as possible. As soon as we went for a walk the contractions started coming much faster. When we got back to the ward, I think it was about 6pm the following day now I was examined again and was 'a good four' apparently, so back to labour suite. Taking gas and air by now. At about 9 they decided to break my waters, and I started, quite forcefully Wink requesting an epidural.. My midwife went out to get the anaesthetist, but 2 minutes later, according to my notes the baby was out!

I could feel the crowning and then the body come out but it wasn't too stingy. The worst pain was between waters and crowning but it was literally over in a minute.

She was perfect and tiny and fed quickly. No tearing or grazing, a quick shower and then off to the ward! Home by 2 the next day. She's feeding pretty much constantly and sleep is a distant memory but we are all ecstatic with new arrival. Name still to be decided!

Sorry that's a big rambly, but wanted to get it all out! Hang in there ladies not long now!!

broodylicious · 14/03/2012 17:36

A big congrats to you winter! Sounds as though she came v quickly once she was ready - good baby! Looking forward to hearing what you've called her and your future stories Smile

All these babies coming thick and fast are making me v broody!! Next Sunday seems a long time away, I can't wait that long, I want to see him/her now!! Might have to get on the case with mr broody later and see if that old wives tale works Wink xx

TroubleAndFyfe · 14/03/2012 17:51

Congratulations winter! What weight was she?
Sounds like a plan broody!
All these babies! Grin

ardenbird · 14/03/2012 18:34

Congrats winter! Thanks for your story -- I really like seeing how other people go through it and come out the other side, as it all seems like a giant unknown wall to me at the moment.

Just came back from a big shopping trip drove 1 hr into the big town where I've now got at least a minimum for a hospital bag. Still more I'd like to do, but DH at least won't be running out for nappies as I'm in labour. Completely exhausted and broke down in the middle of Tesco in tears when everything hurt and DH wasn't understanding me (he apologised, he was getting worn out too), but I'm glad we've got things now.

broodylicious · 14/03/2012 18:45

Oh arden sounds like you've had a meltdown day Sad I've had a few of them in the last few weeks. It all gets too much sometimes doesn't it? We only bought two packs of nappies - one pampers and one huggies because we've heard so many people say they both fit differently on different babies so rather than buy a shed load of one type, we played it a bit safe. Certainly made up for it in every other thing though Grin Think we've enough baby wipes for everyone on this thread (even though you're not supposed to use them for the first three months!) and nappy bags as well!! Prob got a blanket for each half of each day of the week too!!

Won't be trying that old wives tale tonight after all - just had bust up with mr broody re his mother...

ardenbird · 14/03/2012 19:35

Ooh, I didn't know you weren't supposed to use wipes! I just got some because one of the lists I found online for hospital bags had them in it. I got a pack that said "suitable for newborns", so maybe it'll be okay. We got a pack of Tesco brand nappies and I still hope to make it out to Boots and use the coupon they sent me for a free changing bag if you buy a pack of Pampers. We'd heard the different nappies for different babies, too. I figured we'd start with one store brand and one brand name and see where to go from there. We're still toying with the idea of reusables, but I'm not sure if I'm organised enough!

Sorry to hear about bust up with mr broody... I saw your bit above about MIL. It can be so frustrating! For us, it's my parents. They keep wanting to get us stuff we don't want/need. It's so frustrating when I know they're just trying to help, and I don't want to seem ungrateful, but I keep thinking "if you're going to spend that much money on us, couldn't it be on something actually useful?" At least both sets of our parents are across an ocean, so there's stopping by :)

broodylicious · 15/03/2012 13:58

Yeah we got the millions of wipes as we were just always under the impression they could be used straight away too - they're on all the checklists as you say! But yeah our NCT tutor told us that we shouldn't use anything on baby's skin apart from water and cotton wool for the first three months - only thing that is permissible would be a tiny bit of baby shampoo if absolutely necessary. She did say that huggies pure wipes should be ok if out and about as they're as soft as water and cotton wool (I checked that on the labels too to be sure). Guess its personal choice in the end and I can't imagine it'd kill anyone by using them, think NCT just like to be always on the side of caution.

Me and mr broody are fine again now. Think we'd both got a lot of angst and worry in us that just needed to come out and his MIL's antics just provided us with the reason we needed to blow it all up. We never argue so it's a biggie if we even say a cross word to each other! He did understand things though from my point of view and said he will try to support me more in future. All I can ask for really....

KikiRC · 16/03/2012 07:03

Hello all,

Ivy Wren born on Weds at 6lbs 15oz. All pretty straightforward- was 7cm at first check shortly after arrival with no pain relief, then G&A for the final stages. Had a high bp so no birthing pool, and monitoring with straps over my belly had to be on & around the bed, but they let me assume all kinds of peculiar positions! Small episiotomy & tear which is quite sore, but fine. She's lovely! Looks like she's inherited my dislocating hips, so we have to see the orthopaedic specialist & a scan next Thurs- she may need to wear a splint for a bit.

Hope everyone else well, sorry- haven't managed to read up on everything. X

TroubleAndFyfe · 16/03/2012 09:01

Congratulations kiki and welcome ivy! Grin beautiful name! Sounds like another positive birth experience. Good weight too! Hope you're feeling well. Fingers crossed everything goes well with the specialist today!

broodylicious · 16/03/2012 10:56

Congratulations kiki! Really pleased everything went well for you and your little girl Smile

It's so exciting reading all of your experiences Smile (can't help be a bit Envy though haha!) after all this time of discussing these babies and our fears and hurdles and hopes. Lovely stuff!!

broodylicious · 16/03/2012 15:34

Well. What a drama I've just had. Went to see MW for normal appt this morning. BP was higher than normal - three times - so she sent me to antenatal assessment at the hospital. You can imagine my thoughts ("oooh this is it, baby will have to come early now") and dh's worried face! Anyways, first bp reading - abso great. Second - good. Third - high. Fourth - higher. Fifth - just as high. Bloods though were fine so have been able to come home. Community MW is having to come to the house on Sunday to check it out again and if it's not good...well, I think I'll be admitted. MW at the hospital was abso lovely, said she wishes I go into labour in the next few days so I don't need to go in and be faffed with! Haha! Will keep you updated....

ardenbird · 16/03/2012 17:14

Congrats kiki!

Ack, broody, I hope everything's okay. I had high BP last week, but they had me come in the next day and it was back to normal, so I hope something similarly non-exciting happens for you! (Then I had weird upper abdominal pains the next day, but it turnned out to be entirely unrelated -- ribcage ligament stuff)

I was completely wiped out yesterday from shopping on Wed. Had a little bit of show and then woke at 4am with painful possible contraction, but nothing since then. I wonder if all the walking about triggered it, but I can't keep that up!

TroubleAndFyfe · 16/03/2012 22:06

Sending labour vibes broody! Grin

TroubleAndFyfe · 18/03/2012 18:14

Happy Mother's Day to all the new Mummies, hope you've all been suitably spoiled! Thanks
