Oh my goodness! Good luck, Carlita, thinking of you. Let us know how you are when you can! Wishing you a calm, empowered labour. x

RaisingEmbers · 29/02/2012 20:08

Hello ladies, I've popped over from the March 2011 antenatal thread, to wish you all good luck, and offer congratulations to those of you already popped! Just reminding myself how I was feeling this time 1 year ago, and am now looking forward to celebrating my DDs 1st birthday - time flies!
Enjoy your last few days/weeks of pregnancy, fingers crossed for easy labours and deliveries, and please, make the most of those precious early days with a newborn. Much love to all of you!! Smile

Carlitawantsababy · 29/02/2012 20:39

Thanks word, haven't had to be examined which is nice, was able to decline on the basis that I am positive it is my waters and the midwife saw the pad I had used (lovely). Have been on the monitor and all is well. They want me to start oral antibiotics now and stay overnight in hospital but I've said I'll take the antibiotics but go home. We're going to take the dog for a nice big walk to try to get things moving! Smile

Oh, wow Carlita!!! Did the waters breaking come as a complete surprise, or did you get an inkling something was happening beforehand? Hope all goes well, take care and good luck! XX

BeeWi · 29/02/2012 23:14

OOOOOOH, Carlita- mega exciting news! You must let us know how things are going/ how things went when you get a chance. Will be thinking of you.
Also, thank you to you and Kiki for your kind words about the BP. Defo going to try and chill a bit now.

So, it's midday March 1st here and, guess what? We're having our babies this month, ladies! Woohoo. Home strait and all that.

Went to see the registrar at the hospital this morning. BP not come down at all, so going into hospital next Wednesday night and going to start being induced if nothing has happened by then. She gave me a sweep this morning but cervix is still 'very posterior', so not expecting any big changes any time soon. Feels weird knowing that I'll probably be in labour this time next week and hopefully by Thursday night will be a mam. In case any of the other first timers have a sweep, I was worried about it before hand and to be honest was holding back tears a bit because I was so nervous, but it is honestly nothing to be scared of. It's slightly uncomfortable but absolutely not painful. I certainly didn't find it as uncomfortable as a smear. So yeah, we're getting there, ladies.

And RaisingEmbers - thank you for your sweet message! Must be odd looking back and thinking how you were at this point last year. Smile

Carlitawantsababy · 29/02/2012 23:29

Total surprise kiki, I was peeling spuds! Grin

Just a quick post to let you know I'll be thinking of you Carlita does this mean you'll be induced shortly if nothing happens? Sorry the HB is out of the window, but, like you say, probably for the best given the house at the moment Smile

embers thanks for popping over! Really nice to hear that there is light at the end of the labour tunnel! Wink

Hope everyone else is doing ok Smile

broodylicious · 01/03/2012 09:25

Omg!! I leave it a couple of days to check out the thread and come back and stuff with you guys is starting to happen!! How exciting!! GrinGrinGrinGrin

Gutted for you re HB carlita but it's for the best and should mean your LO is going to be here soon and safe, yay!! Smile

Off to NCT breastfeeding session this morning. Looking forward to it, but a bit apprehensive as my DH is going to be the only DP attending (the others cant get the time off work) and I'll feel a bit funny....but also incredibly proud that my DH is so supportive in every aspect of my pregnancy and these first steps of parenthood

Carlitawantsababy · 01/03/2012 18:13

Sorry to keep you all waiting! Signal rubbish. Very very proud to announce the arrival of baby Fyfe born at 12.50 today, 8lb 5oz and 100% gorgeous!
Went in to hospital at 6am and was examined and told I was 2cm Sad asked for a bath as they wouldn't let me use the pool and asked for another examination 30 mins later - fully dilated! Took all the rest of the time to deliver him though as he was back to back, face up so a bit awkward. I was a rebel and signed off lots of refusals, refused IV antibiotics, refused continuous monitoring and accepted risks of using the birth pool. Used gas and air in the pool, found it really really helpful to keep my breathing slow and calm. We should be going home at 7pm (well, to my mum's as ours is a building site) so champagne will be flowing soon! Grin

Huge CONGRATULATIONS Carlita!!

Great name & weight - so pleased you got the birth you wanted, despite the location - good on you for refusing the cascade of intervention.

So happy for you Smile enjoy the champers!! Xx

KikiRC · 01/03/2012 19:55

Jezzabell · 02/03/2012 08:32

another update .... my little Leapling girl was born on 29th Feb (should be Feb thread, but she was due on Sunday so I joined this group). Amazing home waterbirth, no drugs, no tears, fair bit of yelling though! 7lb10.5, first baby, went totally to plan. She's amazing! I'll post a proper birth story soon, for all those first time homebirthers, It's totally possible, you can do it.

Jezzabell · 02/03/2012 08:33

also to add, congratulations carlita, its amazing isn't it. Hope its going ok xxx

Wordweaver · 02/03/2012 09:14

I saw the MW this morning. She noted I've got an appt with the consultant next Thursday (to discuss my polyhydramnios) and said "well. I'll make an appt for us to meet again in two weeks but I do think you may well have delivered by then. The consultant will likely have you induced and that'll be before we're supposed to next meet...."

I know I'm due three weeks on Sunday so to become a mummy in two weeks isn't wildly early but I came out a bit shell shocked anyway! Haha!

carlita - so are you home now then? Fab. Was there any stitches involved? Im really hoping water birth will help avoid that. Any tips for us? Do you really need big fat maternity towels? Did you use disposable pants? All these things seem to be on the hospital bag checklist but I just don't know if theyre those things they try to get us to buy but don't necessarily need? Blush

Carlitawantsababy · 02/03/2012 18:36

I got home at 9pm yesterday, 8 hours after the birth! I did have 4 external stitches which I was so scared of but really they are fine, honestly can't feel them at all, not exactly pleasant having them sewn up but I had my baby to cuddle at the time so not so bad! I have tena pants and the big pads, yes, I'd say they are needed though blood loss is not awful it makes you feel more secure! I would recommend getting some paracetamol in, I had no idea I would feel so beaten up today, every muscle in my body aches! The most surprising thing though is that I enjoyed it so much, a totally amazing experience! Grin

knitterati · 02/03/2012 19:43

Aww! I'm feeling so broody!

Congrats jezebel! looking forward to hearing your birth story as that's exactly what I'm hoping for - HB in water, as few drugs as I can get away with etc.

Xx

broodylicious · 02/03/2012 20:06

Wowsers carlita that is a brief stay in hospital! Fantastic that you have been able to get home and settled so soon. And brilliant words of comfort re stitches and recovery, thanks for the encouragement. I'm so pleased for you, I really am Smile xx

Carlitawantsababy · 03/03/2012 11:16

Got all my baby boxes from my mum's loft now so Fyfe is in his first real nappy and clothes that I bought him! He is super alert and calm except when he has a dirty nappy (and boy have we had lots of those) and when he's hot. He can't tolerate more than a sleep suit warmth wise - much like me (not that I wear sleep suits)! Grin he's taking to suckling well now, wasn't very interested until last night but some babies just aren't hungry this early. Hoping milk will come in tomorrow. My PGP has disappeared which is overwhelmingly lovely. We're having our first outing today to buy tiles! Grin
I already don't need disposable knickers and normal towels would be okay by this point so don't go overboard though will keep you posted on it as community midwife told me I may bleed more when breastfeeding and so far it's just colostrum he's getting which they don't have to suck intensely for like milk. Hope you are all well! Grin

CONGRATULATIONS to Carlita & Jezzabell!!

I have my own birth announcement...............My fears of pre-eclampsia came true and after being admitted to hospital on the 9th February with high blood pressure (152/110). I ended up having a C section on the 15th February, just over 5 weeks early. I now have a beautiful tiny daughter, named Phoebe May weighing in at 4lb 7oz! Grin

Good luck to the rest of you!! xx

broodylicious · 04/03/2012 18:51

Aaaah congratulations moffit!!! What a beautiful name. So pleased she was delivered safely after pre-eclampsia Smile it's also been one of my fears as every time I go to see the MW, my BP is high twice with the electronic machine so she has to do it manually, which then results in it being ok. Were you ready for the c section, mentally I mean? I can't remember if you were one of the ladies wanting a home water birth (so c section would've been big departure from your plans)? Or were you induced and then failure to progress meant c section? Would be good to hear about your recovery from the section when you can? How are you finding things now? Able to drive yet and get about? Sorry for all the questions - I am so intrigued by all these births, knowing on just a few weeks away!! Smile
