34+3 and bubba is still breech. Seeing consultant next week, but getting mentally prepared for an elective section.

shipsladyg · 11/01/2012 11:38

Wicket - one of the girls in my antenatal class was breech til 38 wks and her little one turned by himself. She's quite short & the baby was tall which made it all the more surprising. Have you looked at the spinning babies website? Don't give up all hope.

TheWicketKeeperIsDown · 11/01/2012 11:54

TBH, I'm not bothered about the prospect of an elective section - my last birth was pretty grim.

shipsladyg · 11/01/2012 12:47

Urgh. Sometimes life with a toddler sux. Child in utero is sapping my energy & Child ex utero is sapping my patience. Today I can't believe I volunteered to be a mummy.

notcitrus · 11/01/2012 13:19

I hear you shipslady!
Half the time I figure that however much dc2 cries etc, at least she won't be sitting on my bladder kicking my pelvis etc once she's outside.
The other half I'm thinking "how the f am I going to cope???"

Ds is 3.4, most endearing in between being a stubborn nightmare. On Monday he got a prize at nursery for doing really good listening and being extra helpful - followed by refusing to go to bed and escaping from his room and demanding all sorts for hours on end. And waking three times wanting extra cuddles. No mummy, proper lifting in the air cuddles. like what I can't physically do atm...

Do not get the Little Princess "I don't want to go to bed" book - it gives them all sorts of ideas!

phlossie · 11/01/2012 13:44

I'm finding my children and husband pretty irritating at the moment. One thing you first timers will discover about children pretty soon is they have NO IDEA where their bodies end and yours begin! Mine come into our room in the morning, and before I've even opened my eyes, they're fighting over who sits where in our bed. This involves full 4yo weight on my left breast and full nearly-6yo weight on the right side of my bump!

So exciting that babies are starting to arrive. Good luck to woowa.

LOL notcitrus My DD has that book, sorry HAD that book.

DD (4) is being very clingy right now to me and DP, and she keeps coming in my bed in the morning and wedging herself between me and DP and just wriggles/talks non stop and its so irritating! She has also started crying in the night when she needs the toilet and waking us up instead of just going herself then going back to bed. Not what i need right now! She either wants non stop cuddles or is giving me non stop attitude! Hands on the hips, back chat and slamming doors! There is a DD shape butt print on the naughty step right now. Hope its just a phase!

Had MW today and baby is measuring fine and in a good position, my iron is still low so she took yet more blood today. My next appointment is in 2 weeks..on my birthday! Cant believe im over 36 weeks and we STILL dont have a cot (getting ordered on Friday) or even a car seat (getting ordered on monday)!!! Dont have a steriliser or anything like that yet either but im hoping to breastfeed anyway. Apart from that i think were set... just need more clothes for baby but we have the bare necessities!

Think I'm having some kind of massive hormone surge or something today. Had felt tearful all am, decided to head out to moors as skys are blue and dog needs burn out. Drove little bit hard through pothole and had screaming crying fit.Confused. Poor DH didn't know what the hell to say or do.

We have had workmen in the house since Monday tiling bathroom and I think build up from that hasn't helped. Anyway after good cry and bracing walk on the moor I feel alot better. I have decided the rest of the afternoon is non event, although might just have to go get chocolateGrin

Luckily no other DC's to worry about though as first timer. Just hope I sort my head out in time for antenatal class tonight.

deardear · 11/01/2012 15:20

Well I gutted the bathroom, got 3 bags of rubbish and it's spotless. Didn't manage anymore other than hoovering the landing as it wore me out but have wanted to give it a damn good going over for ages. Texted eldest DD to ask her to pick p another two bottles of bleach in town and she has told me I am bleach obsessed to the point where it's getting ridiculous. Oops!

I am quite glad my kids are a lot older this time. Couldn't have coped with a 3rd when they were younger. DD1 was an argumentative sod from the moment she could speak a sentence at about 18 month and is now just realising she has to keep her gob shut at times aged nearly 15!

littlemonkeybix · 11/01/2012 15:33

Advice required if any available please!!

Yesterday I started up with puffy hands and feet... Do you guys know what causes it (other than "pregnancy") and what I can do to try to prevent it??!!

My pumps, usually lovely and comfy, are starting to annoy the bejesus out of me... It's gonne be trainees for work from here on in methinks!!

Ta my little helpers! Smile

Sudden swelling of feets/hands/face can be a sign of pre-eclampsia so speak to your midwife, just in case.

The swelling is caused by water retention, which is common in late pregnancy. I had this last time around from 36 weeks, but it was the height of summer and heat can make it worse.

To relieve it try:

Putting your feet up whenever possible, to help your circulation. At work, keep a footstool or box under your desk. At home, try to lie down, on your left side, as this takes pressure off the inferior vena cava.

Put on support tights before you get out of bed in the morning, so blood has no chance to pool around your ankles. If they don't help, see your doctor. She can prescribe compression stockings.

Drink plenty of water. Surprisingly, keeping hydrated helps your body hoard less water.

Exercise regularly, especially by walking, swimming or using an exercise bike.

If you're travelling long distances, take regular breaks to stretch your legs.

Eat well, and try not to have high-sodium and salty foods, such as olives and salted nuts.

If your skin isn't too tight and painful, ask someone to massage your ankles and feet, upward towards your knees. This can help to move the fluid away from your feet.

Gooseysgirl · 11/01/2012 16:35

My fingers look like sausages and are SO sore.... BP, urine etc fine so midwife thinks it's Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.... owwwwww....

Had our first NHS ante-natal class yesterday (abandoned NCT idea after they sent an email saying the classes would be £290 Hmm) and it was great. There were only three of us there - me, my DH and another expectant mum who's DH couldn't get the time off work. I was stunned - I just assumed as it was NHS it would be mobbed!! Anyway we had two midwives and a trainee midwife for a 2.5 hour session including some natal hypnotherapy - next week they're covering pain relief, role of birth partner, CS etc. Hospital tour this Sunday. Have most of the bits got for the hospital - just need to pack. Looking forward to hearing the first birth announcements very soon!

littlemonkeybix · 11/01/2012 16:53

That sounds excellent goosey

I'm just waiting to hear when and where my NHS class is. On a one dayer rather than the 6 x 1 hours... but the location roatates between a few locations, and we're not sure exactly which Saturday it will be.

Looking forward to it.... although I suspect I'll hear some protest moans from DP...

littlemonkeybix · 11/01/2012 16:57

Had our first ante natal class today - NHS, there were 5 couples, and 3 women on their own. We're getting 4 sessions of 1.5 hours, and today focussed on the birth, and what actually happens to your body. We did natural birth, which the midwife promoted well - next week we move onto pain relief and intervention.

DP sat there squirming throughout, and afterwards we rowed about him feeling sick. I said I was scared and felt pretty squeamish about it too, but I feel like I have to put a brave face on it for him (and for me - it's gonna happen and there's nothing I can do about it!!). He then said I don't have to worry about him... and he doesn't have to worry about me. Um, no, actually, just this once, you do have to worry about me!!

Anyway, all sorted now, and he's turned into the greatest promoter of natural birth - apparently it's easy, and because your body releases endorphins you barely feel the contractions. Oh god...

EsmeWeatherwax · 11/01/2012 19:37

I have to laugh at that article Monkey, for me it was exactly the opposite, dd1 was bottle fed, and a cranky wee midden from the get go, whereas dd2 was exclusively breast fed til six months and was, and still is, the easiest baby to look after! She's so laid back it's unreal. IMO, it totally depends on the baby, I think there's a lot to be said for the idea that personality is innate in babies. OTOH, maybe it was because I was a nervous wreck with undiagnosed PND with DD1, whereas I was much more chilled out with DD2. We'll see how no 3 turns out!

Xavielli · 11/01/2012 19:57

There are too many factors in personality development to pin it on what a baby eats! I wish they'd stop trying to simplify everything and just accept that people are a product of environment and innate nature...

woowa · 11/01/2012 20:16

agreed, xavielli, don't be put of BFing first timers, it has lovely benefits!

Oh yes, HELLO everyone, I'm still here. Sigh. So, I misunderstood the consultant last week (or he misexplained!). It wasn't the blood flow that had plateaued at last week's scan, it was the baby's abdominal circumference! Two quite different things, i think you'll agree. but they don't do growth scans after a week, so the scan today was only to check the blood flow (even though it was actually fine last week). Can you see where the confusion lies?! Anyway, so blood flow fine today, and they haven't measured baby. So no conclusions. Except that BP was 144/92 which is REALLY high, espeically for me, who has to keep BP down to protect poorly kidneys. So, no inducing, and i have to go in on friday AND monday for approx six hours of BP monitoring... oh what fun! At least I get to lie around with my feet up for a couple of days though. Then another growth scan next wednesday, and if baby still hasn't grown, they'll induce me. I went in TOTALLY prepared to have baby today, house tidy, bags manically packed (all the tidying is probably why i have high BP!), so it was a bit of an anticlimax, and io'm back to waiting on the bus!! And the manic cleaning energy has gone and I'm tired again.

Have to laugh really. Next week the consultant i've seen last two times isn't there, so i'm kind of hoping to see someone else to get a little more clarity on the issue, and meanwhile we're praying i'll go into spontaneous labour anyway and won't need inducing. Come on baby...

So - EPO pessaries... I know it's up but is the cervix is towards the back or the front?

PamBeesly · 11/01/2012 20:24

I think thats blatant anti-woman propaganda...I read that The Times had a headline "Babies on bottle-feeds are being 'comfort fed' to ease mother's lives'' So lets pin it back on mam's... Angry

hermionejgranger · 11/01/2012 23:05

Emz there is a link to my fb profile at the beginning of this thread. If you send me a friend request and a message so i know who you are i can add you.

Ships i believe it's towards the back :-)

still here?! Keeping fingers crossed for some spontaneous labour for you!

Sorry for lack of caps and general flow of prose... In bed on phone and having a carpal tunnel moment! Ouch...

500 posts... Halfway!

littlemonkeybix · 12/01/2012 11:19

Pam I read the article as a skim of the "study"... and took from it not a great deal really. I did post a comment on there that there was no mention of bottle feeding expressed milk as some commenters were getting riled one way or the other.

I thought it interesting on the comments too someone mentioned that the more irritable thing was just that BF babies are signalling for food more... which is what I was told at my BF workshop anyway. As theyre not as "full" they require a top up more frequently. Nothing about distress in it.

I'm not put off BF or FF, but think that in general there needs to be more support for both sides from HCP.

I'm gonna try BF... and if i struggle I will be exhausting the helplines etc... if it still doesn't work, then at least I have tried for DC1, and I'll formula. I'm too stubborn for someone to push me one way or the other.

Anyway, fat feet again this morning... I'm in trainers for work, and DP has offered to foot massage me later (yay). They settled after aquanatal last night and a small foot rub. But were big pink sausage feet again this morning. I was awake for an hour or so from 6, then conked out again so didnt get to work til 10!

Forgot to mention to MW at aqua as they were comfortable in the water... but am seeing her on Weds anyway. It's getting noted in my Q book... always have a notepad of questions for the MW Grin

Hope we're all well today.... and a wave for woowa!!

Righty ho, must attempt to get these blasted documents finished for my boss... not long left to sort them... as well as doing normal day to day tasks! pah!
