jinglebum sympathise with the cold stricken DH. Mine was coughing in a very pathetic way all last night, refused to take anything for it but kept whinging about how bad he felt. Hmmm sympathy is running low at 38 weeks pg with all my aches and pains and i can't even take anything for them.... hope his bastard manflu clears up before mini hawthers arrives - he is useless if he is feeling ill and my patience is nearly up! Xmas Angry

bump has been quite tight and feels low today but no back ache. manically cleaned out the fridge and freezer drawers though - nesting? please dear god let it be nesting!

met one of my nct group today who had a surprise homebirth in the bath after a 3 hour labour with no pain relief.... she seemed surprisingly unconcerned by it all and her little one is very very cute - starting to get it into my head that i'm going to have one soon

TheFirstNoelChinchilla · 07/12/2011 16:25

That's the way to do it mmmm- sounds amazingly relaxed! Also sounds like a few of you are on the way?

Ah mopsy, 'it's correlation not causation, aaaaargh!' is a phrase that echoes round this house too!

Bathroom scoured, but have decided to wait til OH is home to decorate the tree.

LittleMissHumbuggery · 07/12/2011 16:29

Today is not a multitasking day >_<

Hope everything is going well cheese

AReindeerCalledHorse · 07/12/2011 16:42

Congrats Sleighbells, good luck Cheese! Grin

Have just got back from hospital (overnight stay), Squatter has an eptopic heartbeat...so no homebirth for me Xmas Sad

DeckTheHawthersWithBells · 07/12/2011 16:52

hope mini ARCH is ok? i have no idea what an eptopic heartbeat is - hope its not serious

pants about the homebirth. hope you aren't too disappointed - is the hospital that you'll have to go to a nice one?

msbaublestwinkle · 07/12/2011 16:52

Congratulations sleighbells

Hope it is going well cheese

I'm convinced it is me, every time I go out for the day we see to have babies on the thread! Grin

mopsytop · 07/12/2011 16:56

Sorry to hear that ARCH, hope hospital birth will be okay :(

nickelbabe · 07/12/2011 17:06

you can still have an interference-free birth, they just have to keep an eye on the heartbeat.
you should still be able to move around (and you can refuse any suggestions they make to keep you on your back)

bennybenbear · 07/12/2011 17:28

Congrats sleighbells and good luck cheese!

I'm sat in antenatal ward now after midwife sent me here from appointment this afternoon via the day unit as bp is high. Come back down now but was sky high on a couple of readings so just waiting on bloods but expect I will be back later in week.

Gutted especially as midwife didn't get chance to do the sweep before she sent me to the hosp Sad

40+2 and crossing fingers (and uncrossing legs!) that it won't be too much longer!!

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 07/12/2011 17:31

ARCH That's a shame about your homebirth. Are they going to monitor you closely?

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 07/12/2011 17:32

Benny Hopefully you'll be alright and get things started for you Smile

I'm having slight twinges will start timing them soon. Might be because I've done quite a bit and not because Snowball is making an entrance!

festivefiggy · 07/12/2011 17:38

Sorry to hear that ARCH hope you not too disappointed!!

For the last hour am having back pain and light tummy pains not sure if it's a good sign after my 2 hour stomparound earlier today or if it's because I've been sat on my arse for last 3 hours writing DHs Xmas cards. Honestly I dud mine yesterday for about same length of time that's almost a whole workday writing cards!!

Will keep an eye out for escalation!

Hohohomouse · 07/12/2011 17:39

Meh meh meh
Back from hospital, sweep tomorrow, can't book me in for an induction next week (when I will be 12-14 days over) as they are too full so have no idea what happening still. They say they will call next week and try and move some stuff around.
I am so scared now. I hope the wee one comes naturally soon. I can't bear the idea of overcrowded wards and not enough midwives...basically got my self into a total state. Waaarghhhh! Sorry for the whine.
Hoping against hope I can have a sweep tomorrow and it works. Sitting here feeling sorry for myself in floods of self pity is not going to help anyone.
Good lunch cheese, ARCH, Oi, jingle. Let's get these Babbage out!

OiMistletoe · 07/12/2011 17:43

arch sorry to hear that. What is the problem with the heartbeat? Is it just a pg blip, or is it something that may be problematic for squatter later? Really Hope tis just a pg blip. Hugs.

darcies I've given up hope of any twinges turning into anything, but your sound quite promising again. (it's the "again" that kills it, isn't it?!) fingers crossed, and as benny so charmingly put it, legs uncrossed.
In an effort to ease the swelling and soreness, I have spent all day with my feet up and done nothing but read. Grin

TheFirstNoelChinchilla · 07/12/2011 17:43

Oh bums... I'm really sorry to hear that ARCH, and so late in the day. I hope that it's not too serious a condition for Squatter?

At least they can pick these things up, and as nickle says you can have an interference-free birth. There was a thread in the general Pregnancy on natural births in hospital, here you go:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/childbirth/a1315703-Anyone-had-a-natural-birth-in-hospital

Hope that works, not done it before! Might be some good info in there for you.

Hope it picks up for you too benny.

mopsytop · 07/12/2011 17:51

Sorry to hear that benny and hoho. Try not to worry too much hoho (sorry, easy to say I know!) but maybe some other women will have their babas and there will be space for you, or yours will come by herself. Hope your sweep works!

benny back in tomorrow myself for bp check as been having consistent high bp, proteinuria and raised uric acid levels but nothing too sky high so fingers crossed. Hope all okay for you.

Oi, darcies, figgy, tinsel, ARCH, jingle hope there is some baba movement soon and Mmm hope is going ok! COME ON BABIES!

TheFirstNoelChinchilla · 07/12/2011 17:51

Oh dear, not you too hoho! I can't believe they're 'too full' to book you in for an induction, that's really something. I'm not surprised that you're feeling wibbly.

Hopefully you'll get a sweep and it will work- and if not, I'd indulge yourself in a bloody good session of worry/self-pity/tears and then a) put those feelings to one side and b) start organising stuff to mitigate against the worst of the overcrowded hospital. I find it's the best way to get through crap like this.

Fingers crossed for you.

jinglebum · 07/12/2011 18:36

Ahhh - if I go into labour tonight I will be calling a taxi or perhaps an ambulance I think - ! DH is utterly crap when ill. He got out of bed at 5pm finally and then sat around moping as I did DS's tea and scrabbled around on the floor tidying up toys. Having been awake since 430am and entertained DS all day and having contractions I feel he should pull himself together to be honest and man up. hawthers you have my sympathy! My contractions have died off now - think I am too wound up at the moment!

msbaublestwinkle · 07/12/2011 18:37

mouse I think anyone would wobble. Mopsy is spot on, feel it then get planning! I think I'd want to have plans in place for someone to bring me food if the wards are likely to be busy and find out the hospital's discharge procedure so you can nag them!

ARCH I hope it isn't anything serious, but as nickel said you can still be active with the extra monitoring and lots of women do have perfectly natural births in hospital. I had DD1 in hospital and it was a totally natural, intervention free birth despite the complications of her being prem and ill.

Hohohomouse · 07/12/2011 18:45

msbaubles mopsy thanks for excellent advice. No use in worrying before the event and there are constructive plans to be made if push comes to shove (or doesn't!). Just felt a little bit overwhelmed there for a bit.

aethelfleda · 07/12/2011 19:15

Hiya girls: vibes to get into labour going out to all that need them.

AWCH, ectopic beats are simply extra heartbeats and the huge majority settle completely back to normal once baby is out: here's a reassuring NHS info leaflet that says there is no link at all to structural heart problems. http://www.sdhct.nhs.uk/patientcare/pil/23579.pdf?last_updated=... Link here . The no-home-birth rule is simply a precaution in case babe is in the tiny minority that might need extra paediatric attention. It's entirely possible to have an active, hands-off birth in hospital.

And today I had an unexpected blast from the past: the MW at my 37 week check recognised me when I was telling her about how I had problems getting into a room during my labour with DD2 (a snotty shift manager midwife wouldnt let me into the home from home room til I was IN the second stage, grrr). She reminded me that I'd written a complaint letter to the department (oops) as she was someone who'd seen me very early on (before snotty MW was on shift). I apologised for writing the letter but explained I wanted to write it as my otherwise very straightforward birth was considerably less pleasant for not being given a room til the very very last minute (I was in a four bedded obs bay). She was nice but it sounds like the message didnt get through very well to the snotty shift manager! I have resolved to be polite but firm this time
And repeatedly ask for a room until i get one, as it's clear I still have a little mental baggage kicking around about this. It's weird how the birth itself holds little/no fear, I'm just stressed about not having to shove DS out in the corridor!!!

Sorry, link reposted here:

aethelfleda · 07/12/2011 21:01

Oops, thread killer!

Sleep well everyone :)

Tinselperion · 07/12/2011 21:11

Well I'm just getting on aethel - I had a luxurious three(!) hours at the hair salon so everything tonight is getting pushed later and later and we just finished eating dinner. She luckily got the message that I didn't want to talk about the baby (maybe the fact that I stomped in with a face like thunder and said "I'm a week overdue" helped - slight exaggeration but needs must!) My hair has grown so much since the summer that she cut off a good six inches and it still is longer than my collarbone.

I'm going to try taking evening primrose oil tonight - I used to take it when I had period cramps so I might as well take them again and maybe they'll make these fucking annoying niggles go away so I can finally get a good night's sleep. Maybe they'll interact with the large glass of carmenere I just drank! Hee hee!! Feeling quite light-headed actually Grin I got into this pregnancy mess thanks to the demon drink...maybe it will help get me out of it as well!

aethelfleda · 07/12/2011 21:40

Wow, 3 hours sounds like hardcore hair pampering!! Your post birth photos are going to look fantastic!

I'm going light on the booze at the moment but only cos I'm too knackered to be arsed to find the corkscrew: usually I'm a red wine girl (Bordeaux reds especially) but when I'm pregnant something in the reds just doesn't taste right (tannin I guess, as I'm also off tea) so it's Diet Coke or the occasional glass of white and chilled lager/wheat beer for me.
