Darcies think I would phone hospital for advice.

Mmmmcheese hope things are progressing. If waters have gone, the hospital will definitely want to see you.

Bee sounds like you're doing really well. Don't be hard on yourself over topping up - you're still expressing milk - that's great!

Not much to report here - got some sleep last night. A bit of cramping this morning but nothing to get excited about! I'm going to have a day of relaxation.

kri5tycringle · 06/12/2011 08:38

Has anyone had experience of Epidurals? And the headaches you can get after? I know you're ment to ring up as they might have to do something about it, but I'm unsure if its just a 'normal' (2 day) headache I have

mmm no updates... I hope that means labour :o

darcies did you ring the hospital?

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 06/12/2011 08:40

Spoke to GP he said to ring hospital, she said needs to be seen on assessment unit @ 10am, is going to confirm with them and call me back to say okay to go on down. DP is heading back from work!

Wonder if they will induce me? all this going backwards and forwards , tightenings etc is a PITA!

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 06/12/2011 08:41

Kri5ty Just ring your MW for advice and see what she says

nickelbabe · 06/12/2011 08:56

BeeMyBaby - don't be fobbed off - if yo udon't want to top-up, there's not reason why you should. Ring a BF counselleor (La Leche league is good, and there are a couple of others on google) - and ask them to check for tongue tie - i have come to the conclusion that hosiptals and midwives never think to check for tongue-tie - there have been loads of instances on here, and i know two people in real life in the past couple of months who have had to go onto formula because of tongue-tie that was diagnosed too late.

It's morning now, so I bet you can find a local BF clinic too.

aethelfleda · 06/12/2011 09:24

Darcies, good luck with day assessment. i had a similar small bleed with Dd1 at 38 weeks, they checked baby out then told me as mil was happening to go home but if I bled again they would induce. Big fat nothing for a week and then i went into labour. Good luck, maybe they will find things are starting up for you!

bee, I second getting some BF support advice: try the NCT advice line (their number is on the website www.nct.org.uk) BUT if you've been medically advised to top up then please do so, once baby is a little stronger you will be able to drop the topups, but you can still BF as much as you want to on top. I'm not trying to criticise you nickelbabe but if baby has lost more than 10% weight its important to top up to make sure she doesnt get dehydrated which would in itself stop her feeding.

I had to top up DD1 for the first week and a half and was gutted so I have been there too, ultimately we were lucky and once I'd got her latched well and she put more weight back, I was able to drop the topups. Whatever happens don't beat yourself up, you are doing great (((hug))).

festivefiggy · 06/12/2011 09:26

Eurgh been in bed 12 hours as felt rotten last night with cold still in bed hot bath next as much as I want baby out I hope he stays put now until Friday which is actual EDD in the hope feel better by then if not I won't have the energy or patience to push him out. WHY this week!!

Good luck to those with some activity overnight

OiMistletoe · 06/12/2011 09:38

Morning all,
honey happy birthday! Have a lovely day - and if you want to share your birthday with your LO, I hope things start for you!
darcies hope all ok at the hosp. You said "no contractions, but tightenings and backache" - tightenings and backache sound a bit like contractions to me!
mmmm do we have a new baby yet?!?! Good luck!
msbaubles enjoy your Blessingway! I hope it's really lovely.
And bee good luck with bf advice, and Kristy hope your headache has cleared, but call the MW for advice.
I'm a bit concerned myself today. I didn't have the usual early morning playtime with GingerBaby. When I wake at 3 ish, and change position, we usually have some kicking and tickling and this goes on intermittently for a few hours. I possibly got 2 or 3 little movements today, and yesterday he was quiet too. So there have been some movements, but not as many as usual. I'm going to shower and get ready, and if there are no improvements I may ring antenatal to get checked out. (a bit of an upset tummy also this morning).

mopsytop · 06/12/2011 10:24

Good luck today everyone! Hope to see some more babies!
I had more sporadic contractions during the night but now ... nothing. Great. Bet this goes on for weeks!
Oi go and get checked I'd say if worried about movements. Better than sitting there worrying ...

MerrySorelip · 06/12/2011 10:41

40 weeks today! And sod all indication that the foetus will be evacuating any time soon. I may need to do some online shopping to console myself.

Mmmmcheese · 06/12/2011 11:13

Hi all, went to hospital even though contractions eased up a bit. Junior doctor did VE and said she thought just a show and to go home. Thankfully had appt with consultant this morning anyway so she repeated the VE and confirmed waters are broken and pooling - yay! So exciting. Contractions still the same so can go home and come back asap if get worse and if nothing happens they'll induce me at 8am tomorrow. Also great news that consultant doesn't think chickenpox a problem and don't need to separate DD from DS!
So excited! DH and I are going out to lunch to celebrate in advance and necause leisurely lunches will soon be a thing of the past!
Watch this space!!!!

mopsytop · 06/12/2011 11:19

Mmmm how exciting! Enjoy lunch!

Hohohomouse · 06/12/2011 11:33

cheese very excited and happy for you! Go mini cheese (baby bel?)

OiMistletoe · 06/12/2011 11:51

Great news mmmm! good luck.
I'm strapped to a monitor and baby quite active now. Typical!

Mmmmcheese · 06/12/2011 12:21

I thought about babybel too!

oi I meant to say that I was worried about movement this morning too but monitor was fine. They said babies often move less when labour imminent so hope that's the case for you too! Although you def did the right thing to get checked out.

nickelbabe · 06/12/2011 12:35

aethel - sorry, i didn't mean don't top-up at all, i meant she didn't need to do it with formula.
I'm also a bit worried by now much they think she needs to top-up by Confused
surely at this stage, a regular feed wouldn't be more than 20ml anyway? Just fed more often? It sounds like the top-up that Bee is being advised about is based n formula (and therefore not needing as many top-ups because it takes longer to digest)

Bee - keep expressing as muc has yo ucan, because that will help supply to pick up until you get the problem sorted.
also, i think that if you express more times, rather than for longer, it makes more milk.
(that's what I've been told on here)
this advice from babycentre:
"Once you've checked your baby is latched on properly, you could also try the following:
Let your baby feed on demand, as often and for as long as he wants. Always allow him to finish the first breast before offering him the second.
Give your baby only breastmilk. It may be tempting to top him up with a bottle of formula. However, if you satisfy your baby's hunger with formula, he will need less breastmilk and you won't produce as much.
Try not to give your baby a dummy.
Try expressing your milk after each feed. Removing leftover milk in your breasts will help you to produce more milk."

nickelbabe · 06/12/2011 12:37

Oi - my MW said still to ring if movements slow down or change pattern, and she told me that at 40+5, so it's still important to get it checked out.
:)

nickelbabe · 06/12/2011 12:49

and i've found this information on the internet
seems to be quite good, with the new growth charts.
It is an American website, but the growth chart are WHO charts, so should still be relevant here. :)

Sleighbellsinthesnow · 06/12/2011 12:51

Great news Mmmm - v exciting! Enjoy your lunch!

Glad all okay now Oi - hopefully baby was just gathering energy for imminent journey into the world Grin.

Figgy stay in bed - I hope things pick up for you soon.

I love cooking but am not really a baker but have a sudden urge to try some simple baking this afternoon. We'll see what happens!

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 06/12/2011 12:59

Mmmm How exciting. Enjoy your lunch Xmas Grin

Oi Glad things look alright Smile

Well home from hospital. SHO is happy with Snowballs movements. Speculum exam done - no blood seen but cultures taken. Urine showed Blood +++ Protein ++ monitor showed contractions too. just have to wait for it to kick into high gear as still only 1-2cm. however, anymore bleeding then need to head straight back to labour ward. Baby isn't back2back anymore yay!

Now off to DD school to do some Xmas craft with her.

Hohohomouse · 06/12/2011 13:00

nickel that growth chart stuff is really interesting - thanks!

nickelbabe · 06/12/2011 13:05

Darcie that sounds promising. :)
At least they sent you home, so nothing to worry about.

Mmmmcheese · 06/12/2011 14:53

Argh I can't sleep - too excited! Have kristy's advice ringing in my ears about getting enough sleep and really want to be able to! Even my trusted listening to hypnotherapy CD hasn't worked.

Darcies wonder which one of us will go first?! I'm not dilated at all yet which is quite surprising after so many contractions so close together. Also necause I was 3cm dilated at 25 weeks last time!

nickelbabe · 06/12/2011 15:01

i haven't been able to sleep for ages either.

Mmmmcheese · 06/12/2011 15:03

Question - what do babies sleep in in hospital? Do they just sleep under hospital sheets/blankets? Assume I don't need to take sleeping bag or our own blankets.
