Hi M2OAB - my baby was breech at 37wks ish, so they sent me to the hosp for manual turning, which was successful. But I know how you feel, as I got all worked up (my 4th baby and had never had this problem before!!)

We had a good chat about what if it didn't work, and they said that we would be given the choice (CS or natural) if the baby was all curled up & breech, as it is perfectly possible to give birth naturally that way, but that if the baby is 'standing up' with one or both legs extended, then it's straight for a CS. But I'm sure the sonographer will be much more friendly & reassuring than your mw - she sounds like an idiot. Hope you speak to another one soon.

Great to hear from Lis too on the OC thing... a voice of experience. Always best to get these things checked then it's one less thing to worry about

As for me - still waiting at 40+3 - where's that pineapple?

hunkermunker · 05/01/2006 21:25

I've had a clary sage bath (a couple of days ago), rubbed it into my bump (in carrier oil!) and sniffed it - still no baby. Will have another clary sage bath tonight and see though - who knows?!

I know I'll be wondering why I was so keen to meet this baby once he or she is here and I'm sore, knackered and have DS and newborn to contend with!

sweetkitty · 05/01/2006 22:47

Quiet in here tonight can feel the whole thread shake with all the erm action. Don't think I'll be getting anywhere near DP why did no one tell me Clary Sage stink? It's vile. Had a bath then rubbed some into the bump then did my feet including the reflexology points, have had my pineapple so who knows? MW gave me some KY jelly today and told me to get DP to do some stretching!! Nothing is sacred in childbirth eh?

MW visit went well today baby is 1/5 engaged and the right way round i.e. back to my front, clever girl. Checked all the equipment and went through my birth plan including my fears over retained placenta and tearing bad again.

M2OAB - I know how you feel re: hopeless midwives. I had DD in London and it was completely different to up here. In London never saw the same one twice, some of them had very bad English, the least I ever had to wait was an hour 10 mins. So far up here has been brilliant, I have a team of 3 MWs one of which will deliver me, they visited me at home today, they are so nice, they know DD too. I'm sure it's because I'm a homebirth. Cannot believe she couldn't tell which way up baby is. Poor you fingers crossed for the scan tomorrow and for the OC. From one of those progs on Discovery Health a doc was saying that nearly all breeches are delivered by CS these days, don't know if that helps or not?

Right am off to bed loads of positive labour thoughts for us tonight ladies (and our lucky other halfs).

morning peeps

I really thought something was starting this morning. Got woken up at 2.30 with the most excruciating bump pain, then again at 3.45 & 5.30. Was starting to get all excited so I got up but nothing's happened since DH is still blasting out the zeds oblivious to it all.

It was really amusing when I got downstairs though as I discovered Millie (the dog)curled up inside the baby's car seat she exited sharpish though once she realised she'd been caught red pawed and has been giving me the Puss in Boots kitten eyed look ever since lol. Think we'll have to put it somewhere else so she doesn't start thinking it's hers and gets funny when there's suddenly a baby in it!

Am now sat, wide awake and decidedly deflated, eating porridge and wondering what to do next.

Hope someone (or two - or even better, all 4 of you who are over) got a result last night

Think I'll make DD some breakfast now. Will look in on the roll call later

Tickle · 06/01/2006 07:12

Still on parade here! Just sent the children off to school etc with dh & am retiring back to bed, as didn't sleep much in the wee small hours. Not too uncomfortable, just not falling asleep - but feel horrible now!

Amid much hilarity finally got some action last night So watch this space {bated breath emoticon}

Good luck girls

Rach69 · 06/01/2006 07:29

Bah... still here! Every evening for the last 4/5 I have had really strong BH, period-ish pains and massive pressure but no follow through think this is going to continue every night. I really don't feel like anything real is happening. Slept much better last night thank god though.

PMSL at your 'action' Tickle! - v.hard logistically when you're like Humpty Dumpty!

I wonder how our doggies are going to take to the new babes?

Hope everyone else is well this morning - will check back later for news!

lyra41 · 06/01/2006 08:30

mornin

still here, still pg.

Rach
I started a thread re. pets and labour etc. yesterday or the day before, there've been some quite interesting posts.

dd got af today, so i'm hoping that might come to bear on my hormonal situation. doesn't it work that women in the same house all tend to get af around the same time. and labour is like a massive af isn't it? well i can but hope! also i wish i could find my moon cup, which seems to have gone missing since i got pg. have you heard of those? they're a sort of small inverted wine glass made of silicone or rubber that you use wen you have af, like a sort of cap. it catches the blood and you can just wash in and use it again, very environmentally friendly. i was thinking i could use it after some action with dh to keep the prostoglandins next to my cervix, but i can't find it - grrr - i probably put it somewhere very safe months ago!

Tickle
hope you have a lovely snuggly snooze this am to make up for the early hours.

Iris
hope your niggles continue and build into something more. you should really get walking, but that's probably the last thing you feel like after a nite on the tiles.

think i'll phone the acup therapist later on today and see if she can fit me in some time soon. so much for letting the baby take the lead...

iris66 · 06/01/2006 08:45

Georgie is still pg too. Apparently her pc didn't turn up yesterday (she sounds suitably miffed) but hopefully she'll be back with us tonight

hunkermunker · 06/01/2006 09:29

Nothing here... DH not feeling great, so actually hoping I don't go into labour as I'd rather he was fit when the baby arrived! He's not a "man-flu" kind of man - he'll do everything and make himself worse - not what I want!

Hope those who are over have their babies very soon - cannot believe I'm in single figure DAYS now to my due date!

Mak · 06/01/2006 09:45

Crumbs - it must be the cold weather keeping them all tucked up inside.
Had a good visit with the consultant yesterday - baby's head is 4/5 down, 2cm dilated and effaced cervix - favourable for induction even though previous CS. He gave me a membrane sweep, which wasn't too incomfortable and had lots of period type pains and strong BH's, but like you Rachey they keep fading away. He's booked me for induction next Thursday, so within the week ladies and LO will be here!
I'm off for a big walk this pm and more curry and pineapple! I will also ask midwife for another sweep on Monday.
Oh, by the way estimated weight 8Ibs11 to 9Ibs 8ozs

LOOMER · 06/01/2006 10:08

Not a whimper from here either, although I didn't attempt any prostoglandin action last night due to sore pelvis... So much for Uri Geller eh?

Come on now Iris, get those pains going again! We simply MUST meet somebody's little angel this weekend!!

M2OAB - been thinking of you this morning, hope you have a better experience at the EPU. I too find it amazing that your numpty-midwife couldn't even tell you which way up the babe is - although they have been known to get it completely wrong!

sweetkitty · 06/01/2006 10:37

Just signing in nothing happening here either! Had clary sage bath, massage, pineapple, no sex as DP had been at the gym and had pulled every muscle I think but I'm on a promise for tonight. Apparently some guy at work told him it's better going down the oral route, think he is really pushing his luck.

Can't believe no one has gone into labour yet, I know I'm hopeful as DD was early that this one will be too but it must be horrid to be over your dates. Hope this baby comes before her dates. Wish I had put an appointment on at the hairdressers now, my hairs a diaster and wanted to get it done before baby arrived, that would be a sure fire way of baby arriving, book appt for next week and baby will turn up! Happened last time with my brazilian wax!!!

Plans for today are relax, bit of unavoidable housework followed by the clary sage stuff tonight!

Hope everyone else is doing OK and fingers crossed we get a weekend baby!

Oh forgot to say I got woken by bad pains at 2am last night, didn't get back to sleep until 3 think it was all the pineapple though!

OP posts:
maman2006 · 06/01/2006 11:00

Morning all,
Didn't join you yesterday evening for curry, pineapple and so one
...
but this morning, I am the one with what could be first signs !
...
I wook up late (how nice!). Stood up and felt some leakage. Waiting carefully for any other signs since.

My mum who is going back to France on Sunday is getting slightly excited.
I: Oh not today, I have things to do (visit nurseies, ...)
She: Well, yes, you might have things to do today, but more important ones !

Anyway, as I have group B strep, if the waters is broken, I think the sooner the birth the better.

I am wondering if I should start all the things you have been talking about lately to speed-up labour now ...

maman2006 · 06/01/2006 11:19

Anyone can recommand an acupuncturist in West London ?

sweetkitty · 06/01/2006 11:24

Maman2006 - how exciting!! Hope it is your waters. Last time my contractions started about 2 hours after they went, DD born 4 hours after that so it could all happen for you today.

Keep thinking mine might be starting to go but it's laods of discharge (sorry if TMI) have also started checking at every toilet for a show (obsessed moi?) I'm having loads of twinges right now but I don't think I will believe it's the real thing until theres a head sticking out!

Hi all,

Just wanted to wish everyone well with your upcoming deliveries. My babe is due on my birthday, on Sunday. Somehow suspect it'll hang on in there as long as possible though.

Congrats to Chuffed and Dyzzidi on your new arrivals btw.

Take care and may the deliveries be as pain free as possible!!

Mum2OneAndBump · 06/01/2006 11:41

Well Morning all,

I was awake most of the night only got 4 hrs sleep was woken up this morning at 5.30am with really bad back pain & stomach pains they only lasted on & off for about 1hr though & then stopped.

Anyway went to the EPU, had scan Good newws is baby is well & truely head down so i am soo soo pleased & feel ore relaxed
I can not stand any of the midwifes i have seen, none of them are pleasant, they all talk to you as if your stupid & as if you should not be asking them questions cause you should know the answers, you would think they would be nice, polite & smily people but blimey i am yet to meet one!

I did ask if she could tell me if baby was still a Girl, the reply was blunt & short "we are not here to do that & if you were told it was a girl then it wont be wrong will it" to which i replied "fair enough"
I just feel that if they can't be nice why do the bloody job FFS.

Anway told them about my bad itching as i was up itching last night & it drove me mad, she toke some blood said they would test my liver & i have to call them at 12 this afternoon, they also send the blood to birmingham but the results take a week to come back. She told me to put aquriuos (sp)? cream on the itching for now!
They don't seem to bothered about it, but i swear to god if anything happens to my baby because of this i was sue them!!!

So head is down pains are there, i am shattered but it's looking slightly better than last night.

Goodluck to all tonight can't believe no one else has popped yet

Will be watching for any updates so keep us posted, i will let you know how my blood results come back.

xx

hotmama · 06/01/2006 12:08

Just popping over from the Feb thread to wish you girls good luck. Hopefully, today will be the day for some of you. x

maman2006 · 06/01/2006 12:23

Waters definitely broken.
Am now waiting for signs of contractions.
It's definitely going to be this weekend.

BBWBabeLisa · 06/01/2006 12:47

Hiya M2OAB

I'm so sorry to hear you've had such bad experiences with midwives. Aren't you in the Surrey area (or am I totally off the plot?) Are you booked at the Royal Surrey? I had the choice of Royal Surrey or Frimley Park and have had no regrets at going with Frimley, the midwives and doctors (with the odd exception) have been fabulous.
I'm sure everything will be fine, and the results can come back from Birmingham much quicker than a week. When my first bloods after the itching started went off it was a Thursday morning just before they discharged me from hospital, at 5pm on the Friday I got a phone call saying my results were back and I had to get straight back into hospital. My most recent ones have taken a week though. Maybe they prioritise first samples to get the diagnosis more quickly and subsequent blooods take a back seat? Either way I'm sure you'll be fine if you keep a close eye on baba's movements. That was the advice the consultant gave me. He said regardless of blood results, level of itching etc, as long as I had no concerns about the amount of movement then Lola was fine.

Keep us posted.

Lis x

sweetkitty · 06/01/2006 13:04

M2OAB - good news about baby being head down, sorry about the midwives I felt like that the first time, they treat you as if you are really stupid and each one tells you something different, just practice smiling nicely!

Maman2006 - oh oh oh very exciting hope you can keep us updated. I know it's a weird thing but sending you some contraction vibes.

OP posts:
BBWBabeLisa · 06/01/2006 13:30

Am off to hospital for today's CTG monitoring. It's SO much fun! My tummy's too fat for them to easily get a heartbeat trace so I have to sit there pressing the pad/monitor thingy really hard into my tummy for the whole time. Had cramp by the time they finally turned it off the other day.
At what point in labour are they able to attach a heart-rate monitor to the babys scalp? The consultant said that was one of his worries about labour, that he'll have difficulty knowing is Lola's getting stressed until he can attach a scalp monitor (I didnt think at the time to ask him when that can be done). Do you have to be so many inches dilated or what? Anyone know?

See yas when I get back.

Lis x

Mak · 06/01/2006 13:57

That's great news maman. Lets hope things get going quickly for you.
M2OAB - it's such a shame you haven't met any midwives you like - but there's still time
Lis - sorry can't help you with the scalp monitor question, but presumably as soon as the head has descended enough.
