Do you think that pushing the double buggy round the lounge will convince DD2 to come sooner (SK trying everything now)?

Hi all !
Finally some news.
I am delighted to confirm that the birth happened last weekend.
Our first baby boy, Téophane, was born on Saturday, 7 January, weighing 7 lbs 19 oz.
Things didn't go as expected: induction, epidural and episiotomy instead of natural active waterbirth, but everything became wonderful at 6:28 pm and since.
Baby and parents are fine and enjoying each moment of this new life, despite some difficulties/questionning regarding baby's sleep, cries and first days breastfeeding (milk hasn't arrived, is baby hungry, thursty?) for which I would appreciate some advises from already mumsnetter.
Thanks.

sweetkitty · 12/01/2006 16:48

Many congratulations Maman, great to hear from you and glad baby Teophane is doing well.

As for breastfeeding advice, put him to the breast as often as you can, you have to feed often to start your milk supply off. Some people suggest a baby moon staying in bed all day with your baby skin to skin and feeding constantly. I fed my baby every 2 hours for the first few days and my milk soon came in.

Good luck and enjoy your little man

Hey, congratulations Maman! And welcome to Teophane - is that a french name? Very unusual, I don't know how to pronounce it... am I rather ignorant? Glad you're all loved up with him anyhow, even without the waterbirth.

Sorry I can't offer you any advice (as a fellow first-timer), but I'm glad that you are asking these questions now, so that I don't have to later!

Iris I am well impressed with your cleaning efforts - I, like Eshay, haven't had the compulsion to do anything much apart from keeping the kitchen surfaces clear, and an odd hoover about. Now I'm feeling a bit guilty - trying not to look too closely at my skirting boards for fear of seeing the piles of dirt!!

You know, I never even knew that people hoovered their ceilings... whatever next, polishing the lawn?!

Sweetkitty, please keep us chuckling with stories of Abbie and her slices of cheese... it just makes me look forward to our imminent family-dom even more! Can't believe your aunt's comments about the gender of baby. Why do people have to have opinions about it anyway?! It's like all these friends/aquaintances who keep telling us when they think the baby will be arriving - like they know anything about it!

iris66 · 12/01/2006 18:37

Maman - congratulations!!!! and what a lovely name. Unfortunately the babies always seem have their own ideas when it comes to plans for birth but I'm so glad everything turned out well for you in the end - and thanks for posting to let us know!!

As far as the feeding goes, take Sweetkitty's advice. As much skin to skin with him as you can and also speak to your midwife/health visitor to help make sure he's latching on properly. Are you a member of the NCT? they have helplines & advisors on hand 24/7. Don't isolate yourself if you think there's a problem - there's loads of help out there for you you just have to ask.

Loomer - am utterly about my cleaning. I only did the ceilings as we have loads of spiders (old house) and there were bits of old web everywhere. Plus we have an open fire which generates tons of dust.

iris66 · 12/01/2006 18:41

BIRTH ALERT

Alexander David was born at home to Lyra today at 3.30pm weighing 10lb 2oz. Mum & baby doing fine.

CONGRATULATIONS Lyra {grin] and thanks for letting us know! (((((hugs)))))) to you both & look forward to chatting with you once you're properly rested.

Mum2OneAndBump · 12/01/2006 19:53

WOW CONGRATULATIONS TO LYRA & WELCOME TO BABY ALEXANDER DAVID

Weldone Lyra i am very impressed by your homebirth with a 10lb 2oz baby that is a fairly good size. Hope your enjoying him.

Mama - Welcome back & congratulations weldone, Sorry i have no advice on the breast feeding front i only managed to do it for 4 days with ds as no one was willing to help me or show me & ds was extremley upset because i think he was not getting the milk. What SK is saying sounds very very good, no doubt i will be here looking for support on the reast feeding front this time round as i really want to be able to do it. Goodluck.

Sweetkitty - you make me laugh about your pushchair, i brought a new pushchair about 4 weeks ago & when it arrived i was in the loubge putting it up & pushing it around, even put ds in it & he is to big for it lol but it felt good

Iris - Loving your cleaning i also hoover the ceilings, i hate spiders so any webs i see or spiders i suck them up the hoover, I love hoovering at the moment it's become an obsession i hoover everywhere & everything!

Well i actually managed to find some energy this evening & i hoovered whole house, washed up, polished upstairs & down, cleaned all window glass & went through my hospital bag again, i keep thinking i have to much stuff in there & feel embarrassed about it

Getting desperate for baby to come now am so jealous of everyone who has there babies! Wheres mine? i know she is not due till another 6 days but blimey this drags i just really want to see her & see what she looks like i am sooo excited but also scared about the birth

I hope everyone is ok & all babys are doing well, look forward to hearing from Rachey & Lisa

sweetkitty · 12/01/2006 20:13

WOW MANY CONGRATULATIONS LYRA AND WELCOME ALEXANDER DAVID

what a weight too can't wait for the details

Well ladies I don't know if I'm in early labour or not!!!

Had bad BH type pains since 5.30pm really sore stopping me in my tracks, so have had a bath (had only one in there) and been resting up, they are coming every 5-10 mins but aren't too painful yet. Going to put DD to bed then see if they get any worse, if this is a false alarm I will not be happy though.

hunkermunker · 12/01/2006 20:20

Congratulations to Mak, Lyra and Maman! Lots more January babies!

SK...sounds like you'll beat me! I have the sorest coccyx(?!), but nothing happening otherwise. Have a 41 week appointment when I'm 40+3 - don't want to go to that, want to have had the baby! Not even minding a Friday 13th baby now, like you, SK!

Good luck!

iris66 · 12/01/2006 20:29

Sweetkitty!!! - your pains!!!! Oh I do hope it's your time now - sending plenty of laboury type vibes your way for tonight!! Good luck & keep us posted!!

sweetkitty · 12/01/2006 20:32

Hi Ladies,

Just over from the Due Feb post to wish you all the best of luck if you are still to have your babies!!!

All those that have delivered - CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

Will be checking in again soon to catch up!!

loomer · 12/01/2006 21:06

Gosh, all of a sudden we're hearing about babies all over the place! how exciting!!

Big congratulations to Lyra, and well done girl!!! What a good size baby, hope everything about the homebirth was as you hoped it would be - looking forward to hearing all about it, and about little Alexander David.

Sweetkitty - how strange, I was about to post almost the same thing as you... I have been having painful BHs for the past three hours or so, lasting about 30/40 seconds each - they seem to be a bit random in timing though, had a load that were 10 mins apart for a while, then seemed to slow to 15 mins apart.

I have a feeling that this may be a false labour for me - they're not yet painful enough to take my breath away, but enough to make me use my breathing techniques... and they don't seem to be getting any more frequent either. God, it's so difficult to know if it's the real thing - I don't even know if they're anything significant yet. Just like a very intense BH, accompanied by a painful menstrual cramp - ??

Will have to keep moving about and see if they subside or increase (isn't that the way you can tell the difference between real labour and false?). Any advice from old hands welcome!

Maybe, just maybe, Friday 13th could be a lucky day for us!

sweetkitty · 12/01/2006 21:29

Loomer - thats spooky mine sound much like yours painful BH and period pains but not enough to talk your breath away, just wish I would have a show or my waters would go so I know it's the real thing.

So happy for Lyra she was due on the 1st and feared induction.

Bet you I'm still here this time tomorrow with nothing happening.

OP posts:
loomer · 12/01/2006 22:28

Well, I seem to be getting them about every 7/8 mins now, so hope that's a sign of things progressing. Am going to go to bed now and see if I can get some sleep - either reserve my energy for the big 'push' later, or wake up disappointed in the morning!

Good luck to you Sweetkitty, let's hope things keep going huh?! Otherwise we can be peed off tomorrow together!!

NotAcow · 12/01/2006 22:38

Blimey! so much activity! take your eye off the ball for a minute...

CONGRATULATIONS to those who have popped - it must be soooooo nice to be holding your LO's in your arms rather than your tummys for a change

lol so much at some of you - have been doing the nesting thing too - which believe me, is MOST unlike me . doesnt consist of hoovering tho as it sets off the SPD (thats my excuse and im sticking to it!, but have been manically reorganising cupboards and drawers all over the house. dp is slightly bewildered by it all, but says he approves! (bless him, he does always tell me that he's not with me for my housekeeping skills - bloody good job too, coz they aint up to much!!)

have had a busy couple of days doing organise-y stuff and having meetings with my builder and various contractors and stuff, which has been great to take my mind off it all. am feeling quite philosophical about it now. que sera sera and all that...

have i mentioned that i have a temporary nanny to take care of the boys for the last few weeks, and supposedly the next few too? coz of the SPD thing. anyway, she is driving me batty! getting close to firing the annoying bint, but will hold out as long as i can coz the rest really is helping, and it would be good to know the boys are taken care of for first few weeks when i'll be caught up with new one. if she tells me off one more time tho, im gonna lose it, i swear!

anyway - take care ladies, keep contracting (think ive been having falsies too, but have been trying to keep quiet about them so i can do the big dramatic 'ITS TIME' announcement (how sad am i?? bloody drama queen!)

and the BF will come with practice - just have to keep at it and get help/advice on offer - NCT are great for that. even have a 24hr helpline so youre not isolated and bewildered in the middle of the night. the skin to skin thing works too, just hole yourself up with baby and forget rest of world. enjoy!

xxxxxx's to every1!

NotAcow · 12/01/2006 22:41

good luck loomer and SK - hope to hear exciting news 2moro!

loomer · 12/01/2006 23:12

Whoa! My waters have just gone!! Had to ring DH as he's out in his workshop trying desperately to get something finished, but he's on his way home now...

Will post again hopefully with some news - Ooooooh! Better stick the hot water tank back on!!!

NotAcow · 12/01/2006 23:40

GOOD LUCK LOOMER!!

ahh, youre making me all nostagic for my first time... and my next

oh, good luck and enjoy and welcome to the world to your LO

hunkermunker · 12/01/2006 23:41

How exciting, Loomer!

Looking forward to your announcement!

iris66 · 12/01/2006 23:48

Blimey - it's all go today isn't it!!

Loomer - enjoy your wallowing & hope everything goes speedily for you (and good luck with the hypnotherapy - bet you won't feel a thing )

Your turn now Sweetkitty......??

Warming relaxing vibes to you both and look forward to your DH/DP's posts tomorrow!!

jaamy · 13/01/2006 00:01

Hi! Just popped in to congratulate all of you who have produced lovely new babes and wish those of you left all the best. My DD1 was due 2 years ago today but I had to wait another 12 days for her to finally put in an appearance.Well worth the wait!

sweetkitty · 13/01/2006 08:18

First of all I'm still here no baby in sight [sad and crying emoticon] after 4 hours of painful BHs (or what I thought were labour pains) everything died down to just normal BHs again. Am totally gutted as I thought this was the start of things as they were so painful they were stopping me in my tracks. Am so glad I didn't overreact and phone the MW etc.

Wow Loomer you go girl you may have had your baby by now and a first timer too very exciting. Thinking of you today.

I had a terrible nights sleep last night so have a headache this morning, have sent DP to work as usual.

C'mon we need an announcement from Rach and Tickle.

HM - they are popping further down the Jan stats will be our turn soon I hope.

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 13/01/2006 09:26

Oh, SK I thought of you first thing this morning and really hoped I'd log on to see your birth announcement today.

Still time though!

Looks like we might both make our due date though - couldn't have predicted that, with you being early last time and me having GD!

Those BHs have probably done a lot of good work though - bet you're well ready to have the baby now and it'll be a doddle when you do - howzat for positive thinking?

sweetkitty · 13/01/2006 09:40

I know HM I never thought I would make my due date and you as well with your GD. I'm so desperate to get her out so the SPD will calm down and I can move again without the pain, I suppose it's the same for you with GD. I can't believe I had all that pain last night for nothing.

Shall we both have them tomorrow on our due dates then?
