sweetkitty · 12/01/2006 09:14

What am I like? I've cut and pasted the wrong list I can't keep up (rubbish PA skills).

Loomer - think I will wait and hopefully Lisa will have a lovely birth announcement for us today. Hope she's doing OK she was so nervous. Saying that I was getting all worked up about labour last night and I've done it all before.

Sweetkitty - I've just been looking at the stats thread & sarah seems to have appeared first on an updated list that I posted but I can't find any record of her anywhere else on MN. Think I made a boo boo somewhere so you may as well delete her from the list next time.

iris66 · 12/01/2006 09:27

And podley last posted on MN Sep 20 (to add her name to our stats) but hasn't posted anywhere since ??

sweetkitty · 12/01/2006 09:37

Thanks Iris - I think we should wait until tomorrow when hopefully we will have loads of announcements and can do an updated list, what do you think ?

I am so so bored today!!!

still here, still labouring . ow it hurts!
contractions still a bit variable, last ones were 48 secs long each and 7 mins apart. mw's left me to it for a couple of hours unless i phone her. had another bath and that helped to get things started again, but we haven't got enough hot water to meet my need for baths, had to boil kettles in true old fashioned style.

iris66 · 12/01/2006 09:44

I agree - am bored myself (been wafting round various internet sites for about 3 hours on & off this morning ) I haven't even got dressed yet!![shock}

You got any plans for today (buggy arrival apart)?

iris66 · 12/01/2006 09:46

Hi Lyra !!!

Awwww honey - if I could I'd come & give you some reflexology. Can't be much longer. Hope the bath helps hon.

iris66 · 12/01/2006 09:52

It's just ocurred to me... do you measure contractions from the end of one to the start of the next or from the beginning of each? Just realised that I don't know

LOOMER · 12/01/2006 10:02

It's beginning of one to beginning of next isn't it?

I'm typing up our birth preferences at the moment, decided it might be worth having them in a legible format (rather than my scrawl)!

Silly question to you experienced mothers - how many blankets do you think I'll need? Suddenly panicking that I don't have enough...

iris66 · 12/01/2006 10:51

Thanks Loomer

Not a silly question at all (much less so than mine anyway!!)
I would think that 2 blankets is enough (certainly to begin with - bearing in mind that the LO is going to be in a vest, babygro) the norm is 1 sheet & 2 layers of blanket in a room at 18 degrees. I'm using 1 blanket (cotton, cellular) folded in half for the carrycot.

TBH your baby will soon tell you if it's too much (more likely than too little). I cooked DD at a week old by putting her carry cot right next to an oil filled radiator. We had no heating & I was worried she'd freeze in her woolly hat & cardi (on top of everything else I mentioned earlier) she screamed like a good un until I worked out what it was - poor kid doesn't appear to be too scarred by the experience

sweetkitty · 12/01/2006 10:59

aww Lyra hope your contractions pick up, he's leading you a merry dance that little man of yours. I never, ever measured my contractions last time, think they started either in the car or in the bath, remember taking 2 paracetamol (as advised why?) and getting into the bath and having 3 contractions in about 10 mins and thinking "maybe I should go back in to hospital" and DP phoning them and trying to explain to someone who did not speak English what was going on. With all the BHs I've been having I probably won't believe it's the real thing until the heads on it's way.

Loomer - I have no idea about blankets etc I have got 3 cotton cellular ones from last time for the moses basket and some fleece ones too. Oh and a shawl (all unused). DD was born in July in London and I had one of those room thermometers and I don't think it dipped below 30 degrees. DD was in vests only most of the time. Whole different ball game up here in January. I think vest, babygro, shawl and maybe one blanket if it's cold will be enough. By the time the weather turned cold last time DD slept in our bed, well she did after about 2 nights, bad mummy I know.

Iris - don't have anything planned for today as have to wait in for this delivery. Have been playing with DD most of the morning but think she's bored of me now.

Still here, still nothing happening, as expected. I had 2 minor abdominal cramps yesterday and that got me quite excited as I never felt anything with DS at all. Needless to say 2 cramps in a whole day isn't going to accomplish much This morning I went to see the MW and I was amazed to hear that LO is fully engaged. THomas never did that at all. It must mean this one will be the clever one, being able to locate the exit. She was also pretty sure he wasn't back to back anymore so all is looking good. It's a bit scary for me as it means things could kick off and I wasn't expecting anything for another 2 weeks! Not that I'm having any contractions... I'd better get the baby room sorted! So far I've been throwing things in there and shutting the door.

Georgie, thanks for sharing your birth story. Of course we're all hoping to havea fast one but I can imagine how it can be very scary to have things happen so quickly. Lovely photos! Thanks for taking the time to post so soon.

Mak, Congratulations! IT's so exciting when people post to say they've had their little miracles. Makes me want mine to come too. OMG, am I actually getting impatient?

Lyra, you crack me up - posting a blow-by-blow account of what is going on. My Dh is probably half expecting me to do the same. And Tickle off to hospital, the best of luck. At least your mum made it back to England before you had to go to H. That should give her some time to book another ticket and come straight back.

Loomer, I had way too many blankets for DS. And then people gave me some more too. I would say 3 or 4 might be enough. You may have to use 2 at once (folded blankets count for 2) and then have 2 spare in case baby spews on them.
Iris, yes, as far as I know You count from the beginning of one to the beginning of the next.

Is anyone else going to bother with shaving legs and bikini area so things don't look too horrible? I used some Nair this morning and now I'm not sure if that was such a good idea. First of all, I couldn't see what I was doing so I have no idea what the results look like. Secondly, When I went for a wee afterwards it was stinging! Maybe I left it on a bit too long. Are you even allowed to use it in pregnancy? It didn't say anything on the packet...

Eshay · 12/01/2006 11:17

Oh Loomer, I just remembered you can easily tell if bubs is too hot by feeling the back of the neck. If they are clammy then they're too hot. My experience is the same as Sweetkitty's: July Baby in London so he never wore much at all.

sweetkitty · 12/01/2006 11:47

Eshay - you made me lol with your Nair experiences, I was thinking the same thing, I've only been giving myself a quick tidy up in the shower but as I can't see anything I assume it's all over the place. I do shave my legs every second day though so their ok. May get some Immac and get DP to help.

Last time I had an appt booked for the Friday for a Brazilian wax at a posh London salon figured I would be all spruced for the event! Of course you have to leave everything to grow inbetween and as you know DD decided to start coming on the Monday night so cue me in shower with DP holding mirror so I could get tidied up before going to hospital, never made the appt either. Think I told the MWs that too (the effects of gas and air).

Good to hear no 2 is engaged and not back to back. This one likes to swivel it's back around.

Has Thomas fully recovered now?

OP posts:
Eshay · 12/01/2006 12:14

I'm sure I have patches but it's as good as it will get. I'm not going to do it again and I'm not sure DH would hold up a mirror without dropping and breaking it - he is always very willing to lend helping hand but he would find shaving for the MWs a waste of time I'm sure. I try and shave my legs in the shower but I find I can't bend so I only do the easy to reach parts... Not a good look

T is all better although he suddenly had quite bit of goober in his eyes this morning. Not that it bothered him one bit... (until I wanted to clean it of course)

iris66 · 12/01/2006 12:49

Eshay - you're not alone I been trying to keep things reasonably tidy but it's a nightmare isn't it. I'd left it for a while 'cos I thought I was going to go into labour on 11th (hypnotherapy). I got my razor out on Tue night but ended up feeling like I was undertaking a mass deforestation project - like you, I dread to think what it looks like but I'm sure they've seen it all before. No doubt I'll be all prickly and vile the day he decides to put in an appearance (law of sod etc!!)

Have had a major hormones surge today Just had to clean everything & do a mega tidy up. Bloody vacuum cleaner still not working properly so ended up throwing across the room & ranting at DH who prompty came along to "prove" it works - cue major row & me in floods 'cos I wanted to do it Have calmed down a bit now but still want to de-limescale bathroom, scrub floors & do ironing (I only hope this is a good sign of something stirring - not had such a major need to clean like this ever!!!) Have to get back to it... catch u later

sweetkitty · 12/01/2006 12:52

Thats good news about Thomas, Abbie still has her cold and is a bit snuffly today, coupled with her huge bruise on her head she's not at her best right now.

When the MW came to visit me yesterday she took her shoes off by the front door, when she went to put them back on Abbie had provided her with a little snack for her journey, the cheese out her sandwiches!! So thoughtful my daughter.

Afternoon all,

Rickman- Have emailed you

Welcome back Mak & Georgina hope your both enjoying your new bundles of joy will try & look at pics on yahoo when i get a min.

Lyra- Loving your posts with all updated details of your labour progress its fab, i hope your ok & coping with the pain, it all sounds very promising can't wait to hear more news. Get puushing Girl

Sweetkitty - Cant believe your still here i really thought you would have popped by now

Well all quiet here nothing happening, been to mothercare today & spent a small fortune on bits like nursing bras, baby monitors, maternity pads, wipes, etc etc (won't be telling dp shhhh)

Well 1 week from today, heres hoping i can keep my legs crossed tomorrow (friday 13th) don't really like the sound of that but to be honest if it happens it happens either way i will be happy as i have had enough of carrying this rather large bump around now!

Anyway think i am going to try & see if ds will sleep for a bit cause i am shattered, ds seems to be wide awake though so plan B will be snooze on sofa while ds watches scooby doo

Will be checking in to see if there is any news, likeing the updates SK, we do need some more boys on there.

Speak to you all soon xx

sweetkitty · 12/01/2006 14:22

Anyone else had a baby yet?

M2OAB - I thought I would have gone by now just goes to show you that they are all different. I'm the same as you will be crossing my legs all tomorrow just in case.

OP posts:
Mum2OneAndBump · 12/01/2006 14:28

SK - probably be us to going into labour after 12pm just because we don't want our babys on Friday 13th, that would just be bloody typical for me ! lol nothing ever goes to plan

Eshay · 12/01/2006 14:58

Ha ha Iris, I can just picture you when shown the vacuum cleaner did work properly.... I'm not one for too much nesting myself. I did some dusting the other day and that was enough for a while I was very happy when DH noticed it when he came home. Typical male, he never notices these things.

SK, LOL at the piece of cheese in the shoe. I'm always worried about what I might find in my shoes or where I can find my shoes. T loves to drag them around & up the stairs. As long as they don't end up in the loo it's all good I suppose

So many girls! I am suppposed to be having a boy so that will halp even things out a bit. Maybe it's girls the first half of the month and boys thereafter. That's why Chuffed had to heve hers early, so it was at the end of the month Now there's a solid theory!

iris66 · 12/01/2006 15:37

Eshay - I, for one, don't like your theory I would actually be quite happy to go into labour now - and add my LO to the boy collection!!!!

Finshed my cleaning (even scrubbed all the skirting boards & vacuumed the ceilings - how sad is that!) but now totally wiped out with huge puffy ankles and an achey bump/back from all the bending & stretching (sadly not BHs or contractions though). DH isn't really talking to me after my outburst either so looks like a pants evening ahead (serves me right) Think my manic hormones are getting to him (bit like they are to me!! - ooooh come on baby!)

If none of you want to have a Friday 13th baby then please send me all your labouring vibes - I don't mind at all Am going for an energising (but rather late) siesta. Wil look in later to see if there's any news on the babies

Eshay · 12/01/2006 15:48

Oh Iris, I would love for you to have your baby tomorrow. There will always be some exceptions to the rule so you can be the first. Please do!

sweetkitty · 12/01/2006 15:57

To be honest I wouldn't mind having the baby tomorrow either.

Double buggy turned up so have been having a play with it, DD is whinging because she wants to sit in it again (had to give her a little go). It's lovely and light and fits through the lounge door. Very very scary having a double though makes it seem all the more real.

Spoke to my mother on the phone (as you knwo we don't really get on) apparently my aunts decided that I am really having a boy but am telling everyone it's a girl like she did with her DD, why? I really don't know what you would get out of it, I don't like this "well you really want a boy and girls are second place" actually given the choice I would have chosen a girl to have 2 so close in age, like you with your DS's Eshay. But you don't get to chose therein lies the fun.

Sorry rant over back to thinking about babies!
