BBWBabeLisa · 09/01/2006 07:38

It's half past 7 in the morning. I haven't seen this time of day in many many months! Have 8.30 appt for CTG as DH is back in work at 10am today. Feeling like cr*p.

Georgie - PMSL at ur mother. DH has been saying since the day I got my +ive pg test that Lola is going to be fat and ginger (coz I'm fat and my mum and brother are both ginger). He even sent me a picture of a ginger cabbage patch doll saying thats what Lola's going to look like! Keep telling him, no matter how fat or ginger she is she'll still be the most gorgeous baby in the world.

Right, off to get monitored then home to get back to bed!

Catch up later. xx

mornin

good to hear from so many so early.

Chuffed,
glad to hear little Brook is such a star so far on the feeding and sleeping front, what an angel. i want one of those!!! my iron levels were too low a few weeks ago, and i've been taking 200mg ferrous sulphate each day, and it's made quite a difference to my energy levels. hope it helps you too.

Rach

sympathy on the lack of sleep last nite, i went thro a major phase of that a while back, which seems to have settled now. i still wake up about 5 times each nite to go to the loo, turn over etc. but seem to get back to sleep ok. can't believe you're so eager with the natural prostoglandin method of induction (dd is reading this over my shoulder so excuse the long-winded way of saying this!), i just can't face it most of the time.

i'm thinking of trying to book in to the an clinic at the doc's for a sweep today, but i have an appt booked at the hosp weds anyway, and the clinic at the doc's is usually full. i'll give it a try anyway i think, just for something to fill the time.

Lisa
hope your appt goes well, let us know what they say.

sweetkitty · 09/01/2006 08:52

Morning babe still in utero

Lisa - I was lol at you saying you have been up since 7.30am and it's early for you. Just you wait!! I've always been someone who loves sleep and I was lucky that DD1 is a good wee sleeper but have been up since 6.45am this morning and thats normal now. You do get used to it. DP said he never thought I would be able to get up and feed a baby so well but you do. Good luck for your appt today as well, wow you must be so excited for tomorrow you get to meet your georgous little girl.

Chuffed - so glad Brook is doing well, can't wait to join you on the post-natal thread, is there one already or are we waiting til theres a few more if us popped?

Rach - I even tried the oral natural prostaglandin route last night to no avail (don't worry it wasn't err entirely selfish)!

Hunker - it's horrible isn't it when you think things may be starting and then they die down, I think you will beat me in our race though, this one's in no hurry to come out.

Seriously though DP said to me last night that he is very unhappy about me having a homebirth now. I said why haven't you said anything sooner and he said he did! I have tried to reasssure him that things just don't suddenly go wrong and if at any time the MWs say I need to go to hospital I will. It's upset me a bit as I feel like a need his support in this. There's not one person apart from people on here who have been supportive of me having a homebirth, still once I have had my lovely homebirth I can stick two fingers up to them all!!

Quiet day at home with DD today it's cold and frosty here so not a day for going for a walk or doing anything much.

iris66 · 09/01/2006 09:16

Morning all

Chuffed - good to hear from you & that Brook is being so thoughtful!! Can't wait to join you!!

Rachey/Lisa - good luck for the appointments

SK - Well done you!! I couldn't even manage normal prostaglandin route last night!! (I am coming to hate going to bed as I just can't get comfortable) mornings would be fine but DH is always asleep & completely unrouseable!!!

Sorry that your DP is unhappy about the home birth - do you think it's just last minute nerves as a result of yesterday's MW visit? I know DH couldn't help but sigh with relief when I was told I couldn't have mine. I think they believe they're totally responsible at home and it freaks them out a bit!! Hope you can get to the bottom of his fears

Hunkermunker - your contractions stopped.

Am going for a waddle to the butchers today to get some shin to make DD a lovely stew for when she gets home tonight. I've missed her like mad and am feeling totally hormonal & weepy today for some reason so best keep busy.

iris66 · 09/01/2006 09:17

just thought I'd add..

Lyra - with any luck you won't make it to your appt on Wed anyway as the acupuncture will work!!

NotAcow · 09/01/2006 09:18

Good morning everyone.

yes, i am officially addicted to MN! and loving this thread. so good to have people to speak/write to about this stuff - i am only mum among my peer/sibling group. am sure i will be consulted as the all knowing oracle by them all one day, but for now im just a bit of a one-track record im sure!

kitty and iris - not sure that what i have is clary sage at all then! its just a little pot of oil with some nice smelling stuff in it. bet they just gave it to me to make me go away! mind you, i quite like lavender, so maybe thats why.

actually thought things might be happening last night as had BH type stuff going on, but no. am only 38 weeks today - what am I moaning about???

and arent mums fantastic? do you think our dear offspring will one day be maoning about us this way? or will we all be so much better? i hope its the latter! my siblings and i all take the piss out of my mum now for her aggression and anger management problems when we were kids... its all very light hearted, but we do mean it too! she was a mad woman sometimes (er, every morning between 6 - 9 for a start). she tries to deny it now and pretend like we're making it up, but theres 4 of us and we all concur so ha! revenge is sweet

shes never actually been the sort to make comments about looks and stuff, shes just not that girly, IYSWIM - i had to wait for my sister who's 6 years younger than me to grow up and teach me how to pluck my eyebrows FGS! but when i was pg the first time she happened to be with me in a shop changing room one day and jokes "oh look! i used to wonder where all my pg weight was when i was expecting you lot till i caught sight of my backside in one of these mirrors, and look, youre just the same! isnt that funny!" thanks mum, so ive got a fat arse.lovely. your one comment on my appearance in my entire life and its to tell me that. hmmmmm.

iris - wow, dd's antics sound like fun! i'd love to do something like that. agree that derbyshire in january is a bizarre 'prep' for vietnam in the rainy season, but whatever! all sounds like fun really. my sister did a similar expedition to chile to build schoolrooms in the jungle and stuff, jammy cow. came back stinking and in need of a bath, but full of confidence and great experiences. lucky things.

rach - LoL at you trying to drive the little fella out. you sound very lithe... tried the same thing last night too, but as for variety of positions... lets just say mobility is not what it used to be

babelisa - PMSL at gorgeous fat ginger baby. sounds utterly beautiful to me too!

chuffed - baby brook sounds like an angel. agree with lyra - want one of those!

lyra41 · 09/01/2006 09:35

sweetkitty
really sympathise re. your dp's unease about the homebirth. my dp felt the same last time too. i guess you have to reassure him that the mw is totally in charge and will no way take any risks with your or the lo's safety - it's more than her job's worth. the mw's you get for homebirth tend to be very well trained compared to who you might get in hosp, they have to be confident to be willing to do a homebirth. also i firmly believe you get better attention at home, you have one midwife, totally dedicated to your care, and your care alone, not like in hosp, where you could be sharing your mw with up to 3 other women on a v busy nite! and then when you reach the end, and baby's nearly born, you get another mw, who's responsibility is only for your baby, so really the level of care and staffing is fantastic compared to a hosp on a busy day.

apart from all that, you will be SO much more relaxed at home, you won't feel pain in the same way as in hosp (honestly), you can distract yourself and just behave in a much more instinctive and natural way.

I know i don't need to convince you, but i just want to try to allay the fears that people in the rw seem to be laying on you atm.

i wish your dp could talk to mine, and maybe that way he'd be reassurred. cat me if you want and i could give you our fone no. if you think that would help.

lyra41 · 09/01/2006 09:42

Iris
glad your dd is home today, you'll feel better when you see her and hear all about her weekend, I'm sure.

the stew you're making sounds yum, hope it helps to distract you from the bloody hormones. i just feel so impatient at 40 + 8, i'm getting quite cross with the baby now! poor little love, i know it's not his fault really.

my time-killing plans for today include a warm clary sage bath in a minute, a general tidy up, then off to m&s with my mum to help her spend her xmas vouchers, and then out for lunch. my mum is so generous, that it's an effort to get her to spend the vouchers on herself, she always wants to get me something too. last week we went to the garden centre tog, and she bought me this gorgeous orchid. when i got home i left in in the boot overnite, and the frost / cold got to it . i fell terrible!

sweetkitty · 09/01/2006 10:01

Lyra - I agree completely with you re the homebirth. I think part of his fear was that last time they got it wrong with me and didn't know I was dilating so fast so just left me in a room with some gas and air. MWs this time are so different, they do have loads of experience, I know and trust them and because of my last labour being so fast they will both come at the same time, a luxury 2 MWs just for me. I think we would be nervous wherever I was having her.

Hope the clary sage bath does the trick for you too.

Iris - aww I'm sure your DD will love her stew and you fussing over her. I'm sure she will have had a great time (not my idea of fun though far too cold) I think it must be the hormones as I'm so gushy over DD today as well.

notacow - we should have warned you re the addiction thing about mumsnet it should carry a warning sign!

Right off to get out of my jammies now!

Still here...still uncomfy!

Clary sage is rubbish

GeorginaP · 09/01/2006 10:17

Morning

Think I had a show at 7am.

Need some back up from you guys as didn't have one last time with DD. Sorry if too much info but here goes.... wasn't a solid plug but lots of mucousy (sp?) stuff, and I mean lots. Def not discharge as clearish rather than opaque. Does this sound like a show? Oh, and no blood either? Since then lots of BH and pressure down below. Beany v active as well.

Got quacks appt at 11am so will ask him then.

Bugger, got to go as need to have a snack and then walk down to docs. Driving v diff now.

More later

G xx

NotAcow · 09/01/2006 10:27

sounds like it could be part of the plug. i had one the second time (but not the first) and there was no mistaking it when it came - this huge flegmy mucousy blob just dropped out of me. really gross. went into labour within hours so.... oooh, exciting!

NotAcow · 09/01/2006 10:29

off to see MW now. see you all later (hah! youre all as addicted as i am )

sweetkitty · 09/01/2006 10:38

oh Georgie I hope it is a show, think all you can do is wait and see.

With DD my waters went (which I didn't think they were and that I had peed myself) then about half an hour later I had a show it was like normal discharge but a bit pinky. Might be part of it as notacow said, hope it's the start of things for you, so much for your iron cervix

Just a quickie to say nothing happening here either, but lots of strong BHs accompanied by period-pain-type aching. Am hoping that this means something might happen this week... would really love to have babs in my arms by the weekend.

Big congratulations to Spangles - well done, sounds like a lovely length of labour. And so close to your due date - amazing!
Still looking out for any news from Maman and/or Mak?

Sounds like lots of us are gearing up for action with shows, BHs, leaking etc. How exciting!! Loving reading all the posts, trying to keep up but keep having guests (friends, neighbours, family) 'popping round' to see me one last time before baby arrives! Not much time for posting on MN...

Oh for goodness sake!

SOWREEEE for the multiple posting!!! Serves me right for not posting for a few days...

Rach69 · 09/01/2006 11:30

Ooh so many posts, so exciting! Am swinging the pendulum between excited and grumpy all the time! Had a shower and nearly did the splits, my poor pelvis is so sore!

Lyra - I didn't really feel like it but thought it worth a try before my appointment today and Notacow - I'm about as lithe as Humpty Dumpty! I look just like him in trousers BTW did you say your ds was Max? Mine too! How many kids do you have and what ages - Hope we need a stats update soon!

Georgie - I agree about the show - it could be and I hope it is! I only had (noticed) one with dd and it was as Notacow described - v mucousy and I was very sure what it was!

Sweetkitty - hope you get the birth you want, it's understandable that dp is concerned, men always feel so helpless in childbirth. I think Lyra is the voice of experience (and reason!).

Good luck to all today - speak to you later!

Eshay · 09/01/2006 12:03

Good morning

I didn't have the best of nights but it's nothing like the insomnia some of you have been suffereing with so I won't complain too much. DH was a star and got T ready for nursery and only came back in the bedroom to have T give me a kiss. Then I snoozed off and on till 11! I feel a bit zonked now, too much sleep!

Notacow - 10 a month pelvic floor exercises still sounds like lots to me. I'm lucky if I have done 20 in total! Last time I was much better but I was in the habit of doing them at the bus stop then. This time my routine was different aand for some strange reason I could not change my routine to doing them at the train station. Ridiculous and super lazy. I suppose it didn't help that I didn't feel any weakness in the area after last time - I'm superwoman, I don't need to exercise! (Or maybe it was the fact that I had a C-section and things were left in peace...)

SK- I can't believe your mum! Such comments about her own granddaughter. Even if she was super ugly she should still think Abbie was the most beautiful thing in the world. I once got quite upset bc my mum said T's one eyelid was shaped slightly differently than the other. It's not true! He's perfect! Good on you for telling her you want a few days of rest before visitors. A friend of mine from the USA is going to tell her mum not to come racing over when the baby is born. A tough decision but I do admire her for standing up for what she wants and doesn't want. I'm not sure I could be so brave...
T is very helpful in the loo as well. Not only does he love watching me get my tummy out but yesterday I was putting on a pantyliner and gave him the wrapper to hold when he started trying to shove that down his own trousers! I meant for him to go and put it in the bin...
Sorry to hear about DH being unhappy with the homebirth scenario now. He's probably just getting nervous. It's a bit different from the norm so it gives people more things to worry about. I'm confident you will do great and if he's like my DH he will be much happier and more useful in his own environment. Tell him if he wants some distraction while it's happening he can always come on MN to give us a blow by blow account of what is happening

Good to hear from you Chuffed! Brook is sucha big boy already and we're all still here. He'll be crawling before I have my boy! Two nights of great sleep at this age. You lucky thing! Although I suppose you may be waking up every hour wondering why he isn't waking up? I did that with Thomas...

Georgina - ooh, that sounds like it may be what you've been waiting for. There doesn't have to be blood. I think Chuffed's plug didn't have blood and look what happened there. Keep us posted.

sweetkitty · 09/01/2006 13:01

hi again just checking up on you all again see if anythings happening.

Just been hoovering and dusting the entire downstairs (nesting dunno maybe boredom)! This has been the best day twinge wise as well so making the most of not being in too much pain. DD has since covered the floor in mega blocks oh well as long as she's happy! She's got a runny nose and sore throat (hoarse baby babble is so cute) and has another 4 teeth in the process of coming through bless her.

Eshay - Thomas sounds as funny as Abbie, I think this is a great age, just before they get all cheeky! Don't worry I don't worry that much about what my Mother says I KNOW I have the most georgous baby in the world (as does every mother). Sometimes I do get annoyed that I don't have a mother that would come round help out a bit once DD2's here or I could talk too also she's the last person I would want in the room whilst I was having DD I get of women close to their mothers. Still I hope I'm v close to my girls at saying girls!

I'm very of your sleep as well, I've been up since 6.45am this morning, am hoping to have a nap when Abbie has hers this afternoon though.

Georgie - any news?

Loomer - good to see you and sorry to hear you are still in the same boat as the rest of us, hopefully there will be a good few babies by the weekend although not sure about Friday the 13th though.

Off for lunch no doubt I'll be back later

Just had a text from DD to say she's travelling home so I'm instantly happy now (been having awful daydreams/nightmares about her safety over the w/e) Stew is bubbling nicely on the stove & all's well in the world.

Georgie! wonderful news!!! I reckon we're going to have at least 4 new additions this week (just call me Mystic Meg How'd the docs go?

Have to finalise my accounts & do a tax return this afternoon Serves me right for leaving it until the last minute - I may be some time!!!!

BBWBabeLisa · 09/01/2006 13:45

Afternoon all
CTG was fine this morning. Lola was clearly more awake than I was. It was obvious the holidays are over when we arrived at the day assessment unit. Every woman there was accompanied by a squaddie in uniform! Poor souls all back to work today!
I got about 2 hours sleep last night if I was lucky. Serves me right for posting about how easy I was finding it to sleep! Read for a bit and just couldn't get comfy, had really restless legs. Then about 3.30am started feeling clammy and queasy so tested blood sugar and sure enuff I'd gone hypo. Thankfully I keep a sweet drink by the bed just in case so didn't have to negotiate the stairs. Finally fell asleep about 4.30am then was woken by DH with a cuppa tea at 6.45 to get up for the appointment. Tried to get some kip when I got back but couldn't, just lay there thinking about everything that needs doing before my folks arrive tonight! Think I'm also beginning to panic about whats not been ddone for Lola arriving (none of which I can do, so dunno why I'm stressing really, should be DH stressing!). The car seat base needs to be fitted in the car, and the video baby monitor thingy needs setting up (don't ask....DH is a gadget addict).
This afternoon I need to tidy up downstairs a little, as much as the SPD will allow. Have taken a couple of strong co-codamol in the hope I'll get an hour or two of mobility. Then am gonna make a big pot of jambalaya, partly so I can freeze some portions for DH to heat up and bring me in hospital (the food there is DIRE) When I was in a few weeks ago I survived on cheese sandwiches for 4 days.
Mum & step-dad fly in about 8.30 tonight so should be here about 10pm, which means I'm unlikely to get an early night so I intend to sleep very late tomorrow. They're bound to keep me up til all hours showing me all the stuff they've brought from the family in Glasgow for Lola. It's already been a bit like xmas today. Had 2 deliveries. The New Contented Little Baby Book (read a review of a few in a mag and this sounded like my kinda thing) and the Symphony in Motion remote control cot mobile I got on ebay.

Right, am off to have some lunch then crack on with this place. Catch yas later.

Tickle · 09/01/2006 15:05

hi guys

so much posting!
Glad things went well at CTG Lis. Just make a nice long list for DH, then sit back! Also, I'm sure any visitor would understand that you're not able to do that much, especially your own folks!

Iris - hope dd had a wonderful time! She'll be home soon

No action here, and had a migrainey headache this afternoon. Feeling quite bad for my mum - having changed her flight from last Fri to this Wednes, it doesn't look like she's going to get to meet the baby anyway But it's a great help her being around, cos there are times when I don't feel like helping out all 3 kids, and dh is trying to get lots of work done before the baby. My mum will sit down with them & read stories & all sorts - she's fab.

Off in an hour with ds to an open evening at dd1's school for children starting after the summer. It's only a short cycle away, but I'll probably drive

Take care everyone
xx
