Catsycat · 15/11/2011 20:54

Cairn, I've never seen any festive ones, but will let you know if I do!!!

cairnterrier · 15/11/2011 21:02

limeflower hang on in there. time does very funny things in pregnancy - slow, slow, quick, quick, slow, labour, birth! Given that you're only 13 weeks on Thursday, is it worth checking with your midwife whether they'll get you a second scan on the NHS? Or is it time pressure getting time off work?

Thinking of you lots x

Catsycat · 15/11/2011 21:13

Lime hope the time goes quickly for you if you can't get another scan. x

LimeFlower · 15/11/2011 21:24

cairn I asked about another scan at the hospital appointment-not a fat chance, they told me they'll get the bloods on 2nd of December and send me on my way.
No private scan facilities in my city-nearest one about 130 miles away.Grrrr
Cheers, catsy, sorry for whinging girls, but sitting home alone and nobody to speak to.Friends busy,DP working away.

cairnterrier · 15/11/2011 21:47

You're not whinging at all and a slap around the chops with a wet haddock for your hospital :(

In fact I'm livid on your behalf Angry Am wracking brains to think if there's any other way. Is a phone call to PALS worth it? Or do you have a sympathetic GP? Is your midwife the stand up and fight your corner type?

Will be on here for a while yet if you need to chat x

Catsycat · 15/11/2011 21:58

Sorry they weren't helpful Lime, what a PITA. Don't worry about talking about it on here - it isn't whinging. My DH works away too, so I know it can be lonely when there is something bothering you and no-one in RL to talk to.

Harecare · 15/11/2011 22:02

catsy Hooray! Glad all is well
Lucky - Very coincidental! My DP is 6 years younger than me though, so when new one turns 20 (all being well), he'll still be under 50. That's pretty young really.
I am going to dig out maternity trousers this week as I'm definitely getting fat.
Don't want to make you all too jealous, but I've been feeling movements since about 8 weeks. Only flutters at first, but I knew that's what it was. The movements are definitely bigger now though.
DD1 is so lovely, she keeps talking about how she and DD2 are going to help. She's going to switch the mobile on for the baby and rock the cradle when it cries, get me it's pyjamas etc. When we first told her (she overheard us talking to DPs Dad) she asked me very quietly and earnestly if she could help feed "him"! I felt quite sorry that I had to tell her it wasn't possible 'til it's much older and eats food.

LimeFlower · 15/11/2011 22:51

Wrote a reply and got kicked out of MN,grrr.
cairn I'm still earning how NHS works, thank goodness didn't have much to do with them so far (except the last 2 years).Doesn't seem to be too bad here, but to get anything done sometimes you have to kick up a big fuss(financial cuts I suppose) to get referred anywhere.
Got it with my specialist appointment as was waiting and waiting, finally called the NHS and after exchanging a few words I got the appointment the following week.Doesn't matter the discomfort experienced for several months if it's not life threatening.Doesn't matter that I was supposed to "carry on as normal" with work and everyday life.
My lovely GP retired just after I got pg,now I have a youngster on contract.MW seems to be nice but saw her just once so not enough to suss her out.

I've been away for a couple of days, but looks like there's tonnes to catch up on..

Catsy, glad everything turned out ok at the scan. I had that kind of bleeding, and went to A&E with it - they didn't do anything, or scan me, which was most distressing. I then had bleeding that was considerably worse on a separate date, another trip to A&E, this time culminating in scans... all ok. Very very scary though - they also don't know the cause of my bleeds, but I was just happy that all was ok.

Feeling completely exhausted after a couple of days on the road, and slightly worried about how I'll survive at work today! On the plus side, have felt some flutters which are very exciting, though I'm not 100% convinced they're the baby yet!

Mikocat · 16/11/2011 07:53

Limeflower My original 12 week scan was scheduled for too late (14 + 2), I'd had a private scan at 9 weeks that showed I was a week further on than my due date. I tried ringing the hospital and they were really off with me, verging on rude.

I rang my midwife, and after a couple of days trying to get through to him (grrrr) when I did he rang the hospital and - miracle of miracles - suddenly they had a cancellation at 0830 in the morning that I could attend.

So my advice would be get your midwife to ring them, I suppose they view us all as hysterical women, who want scans at their own convenience.

Mikocat · 16/11/2011 07:55

On an unrelated note, I have a cervical scan tomorrow, anyone had one? Not much idea what to expect. I'm kind of hoping that it might let me know that the baby is OK (still kind of nervous less than a week after the amnio). It may not though as it's trans-vaginal (Is it just me - or does that sound like an airline?).

LimeFlower · 16/11/2011 10:39

Mikocat :o flying fanjo?I think the clue is in the word "trans"-trans atlantic springs to mind.Hope your scan goes fine,is there any particular reason that they want to do it?(sorry, don't want to be nosey).
Off to the doctor this week as still having some stuff in my chest so will ask a few questions then.Thank you everybody for your kind words:)

Mikocat · 16/11/2011 11:17

Hello Limeflower - I mentioned to the doctor at my 12-week scan that I'd had a cone biopsy about 6 years ago and they got all concerned about how much cervix might have been removed. She had a quick look with a speculum (lovely) and couldn't see much cause for concern, but they want to scan to see if they need to put a cervical suture in to hold my cervix together! I bloody hope not, I feel like there has been enough messing around so far.

LimeFlower · 16/11/2011 11:51

Oh,dear. That's not nice perspective. At least they are looking at it.Hope your cervix is fine and you won't need it.Good luck.

Catsycat · 16/11/2011 13:51

Miko, I've had transvaginal (dread to think what that airline's uniform would be like...) scans before, not for the reasons you are having it, but to check early viability (it was with the baby I lost, which was too small to see on a regular scan). It wasn't painful, so long as you can lie in a comfy position. Not sure if that is any help, but good luck, and I hope you don't need the stitch.

musical, it's quite odd when you can't get a reason for the bleeding isn't it? It feels like they can do so much medically these days, they should be able to explain everything... Hope you can get a bit of rest later.

After no bleeding yesterday, it seems to have started again today - not much, just a bit of old brown stuff. I am waiting for a call from the doctors about whether I can prebook a speculum examination & swabs, as recommended at EPU, or if I have to enter to 8am rush for an appointment tomorrow....

LittleSarah · 16/11/2011 16:53

Hello all

Wrote a long post yesterday and then pressed long button and lost it, too frustrated to rewrite at the time so here I am now.

All fine here, got my 30th birthday this weekend so looking forward to some fun. My mum is taking me to a spa for the morning on Friday and my dh should have a nice day planned for me Sat, I say should as he is a tad disorganised but I'm sure he's managed something! Then dinner and drinks on Saturday evening. Although nowt for me sadly!

catsy - so glad your scan went well, what a relief! What will the speculum exam be looking for?

Harecare - It's great when the children are excited too. My dd wants to give this one a bottle like last time, although will be breastfeeding it could be a while, although I am hoping to be able to express some for occasional bottle feed. ds at 2.5 doesn't really get what is going on, in fact I think it will be a bit of shock for him, especially as he is a right mummy's and daddy's boy. Dd was much happier to see, be looked after by, other members of family, ds okay but still v shy at first!

Limeflower - Glad to see you are finally getting your scan. It's funny but I've noticed in these situations you are better being a little sharp, rather than my usual overly apologetic, oh could you help me please type tone.

Cupcake - I've add the very occasional flutter recently but I honestly have no idea (despite being on no 3) whether it is baby or general innards. I also felt it about 16 weeks last time (not til about 22 weeks the first time!)

Stokey - Welcome to the thread! It has to be said that baby time with no 2 is rather different than with the first. I remember reading lots of books and watching DVDs, really all very relaxed... not quite the same when ds arrived! Still lovely of course Grin.

Saggy - Tis frustrating when you get to trimester 2 and feel rubbish I know, I think I felt like that until about 16 weeks last time. Hope things improve soon.

SirCharles - Glad your scan went well, and no idea what the PAPPA thing is, hope someone explains it to you!

lucky and harecare - dhs in general seem far more practical minded when it comes to children, especially the having more bit, but most of then adapt just fine! It is the opposite with me and dh, he wants more (and more and more) and I am the one saying I think 3 is enough dear, think about space, money, etc. Harecare - my dh will also be under 50 when this one is 20 (just), and I'll be over 50 (just!)

Yorky · 16/11/2011 17:10

I heard the heartbeat!! had a lovely quiet MW appt as I left Dcs 2+3 with MIL and went all by myself :) don't see her again till next year Shock (mid Jan) and then I'll be 25 wks and on regular appts.
She didn't like me asking about SPD so early but at least I know I need to see a GP for a physio referral so if it gets worse I don't book so see her

Hi! Sorry for being AWOL for a bit. I was very apprehensive about my scan but pleased to report all went well and I will add myself to the list :)

Catsy - so sorry for all the worries you've had but glad the scan was reassuring. Brown blood would be old so - as difficult as it sounds - please do not worry too much. Did you get that call back from GP?

Yorky - yay for hearing the hb!

LittleSarah - sounds like a great birthday weekend planned :)

Miko - hope scan is straightforward (my experience is very similar to Catsy's)

Stokey - I'm definitely showing Blush I've not put on more than 3lb in weight but my belly looks huge!

Lime - that's rubbish about your scan. I hope your MW will be able to support in getting something sorted

naff PJs - Oh I'm v tempted!!!

Catsycat · 16/11/2011 21:24

Got the call back from the triage nurse. She has booked me in tomorrow morning with the female GP for the exam. She should be taking swabs to check for any infection, as apparently that can cause bleeding, and I guess just having a general look to see if my fanjo looks normal. I am cringing thinking about it TBH. On the bright side, maybe she'll find some loose change while she's up there!!!!!

LittleSarah your birthday plans sound lovely - hope DH has something nice in mind for you too!

Yorky glad you mw appt was good, it's so nice to hear the heartbeat!

SES good to see you! I'm glad everything is OK, and thanks for the reassurance. Nice to have soem company at the end of the list now!

cairnterrier · 16/11/2011 21:32

Hi everyone

Glad to see that people are doing okay and thinking of you and your loose change catsycat. Good job I wasn't drinking my tea when I read that else Father Christmas might have to bring me a new laptop!!!! Hope the checkup goes okay though and remember that the nurse'll have seen many, many fanjos before.

Not much to report here other than spending another night hiding from doing the Christmas shopping. Pregnancy brain is soooooo taking over and I just can't think what to buy everyone or what I've bought already that I've put under the stairs and will never see the light of day again.

I'm really going to have to start thinking properly about getting some maternity clothes though, even my stretchy dresses are getting a little uncomfortable. If anyone sees anything nice can they let me know?

saggybaps · 17/11/2011 01:48

Arghhh can't sleep. Acid reflux!!

Have a fab birthday weekend littlesarah

Yorky · 17/11/2011 07:15

Sorry for being so rude and doing a ME post and running Blush

SES - glad the scan was good news and you're feeling better now

Catsy - hope there either isn't an infection or one which is easy to clear up

Loving the idea of the naff Christmas maternity pyjamas competition - is there a prize for the best ones? Grin

LittleSarah - hope you have a lovely birthday, its a good weekend for them, DD is 3 on Saturday so we're going on the train to York railway museum and meeting DB SIL and the cousins, and friends with 3 kids - 8 adults and 8 kids altogether, eldest is 6 and youngest 6months, should be fun!

Onwards to the flutters and movements, heartburn and backache everyone - yay!
