Happy weekend all! 27 weeks today - woah!! one poster suggested above things seem to go faster once you are counting down rather than up - boy i agree!
We had a scan and met our gynae doc out here. He was lovely and everything seems to be fine :)
when i checked the measurements afterwards though i was a bit shocked to discover B is measuring 1 or 2 weeks ahead of schedule - oh dear all that Celtic blood! I hope the growth trajectory slows down by the end..... B already weighs 1kg!!
Gotalittlelamb - great name change and i think Sophia Diane is lovely. Any idea when she might come home with you or is it a wait & see situation? Good luck with the expressing. Glad the premmie boards are offering great support.
Does anyone know how to treat piles? seriously i forgot to mention it to the gynae on Thursday and dont really know what to do. they dont hurt or anything but they are still there!!!! if only i had a magic wand to wish them away with :(

On a different note - is anyone else getting pain in the coccyx? Mine is really sore in the last 48 hours if i sit down for too long so just wondering if it is pregnancy related....

enjoy the rest of the weekend.

GotMyLittleLamb · 18/02/2012 20:19

Thanks SES

Hi SirCharles they said to expect her home around her due date (would be the 10th May) although it might be a few weeks early, we are unlikely to be dissapointed if we aim for then :) my DH keeps saying adorable things like "well just imagine we get a sneak preview and we will get her home when we expected to, so nothing's changed" little bit infuriating but he is doing his best to cheer me up :)

Also, before this all happened, my coccyx was causing me discomfort, one of my collegues brought me in a sort of 'rocking stool' to sit on which was tilted down towards the back so there was no weight on it. Made sitting at my desk much more bearable.

oltob · 18/02/2012 23:12

gotmylittlelamb so pleased to hear that Sophia is doing well, breathing on her own - what a little trooper, great mn too and lovely to remember your Mum. Make sure you take good care of you too & DH obviously. Realise they'll be a lot of to-ing and fro-ing and a very different third trimester than most but do still make time for you too. (apologies for sounding like an aged aunt!)

my nightmare week seems irrelevant now, it's amazing what a day off does. DD is still a bit poorly but hopefully over the worse. I'm still fairly oblivious in denial about DC2. I was stressing about covering when DD's nursery is shut in August until my Mum pointed out that I'll be on maternity leave. You really think it would have sunk in by now. I start pregnancy yoga in a couple of weeks, perhaps that will make the penny drop a bit more.

welcome newbies, happy birthday SES and wishing a lovely w/end to all. for pain with expanding bumps I can heartily recommend using a spanx slip - my old one is longer than my bump band and is helping with lots of aches & pains. oh and wriggle for bad/tickly coughs you can try eating a teaspoon of aloe vera gel, it's meant to work a treat. bit tiredy now so will try to catch up with the rest of the news tomorrow. night all.

Basse · 19/02/2012 10:41

gotmylittlelamb, so glad to hear it's going so well for you! And what a lovely way to remember your mum. sircharles I've had really bad coccyx pain this week too, I think it's the baby moving around and can only guess now it is sitting on the tailbone. People have recommended me one of those inflatable things....whatever they'e called - if like me you spend all day sitting in an office chair it gets pretty unberarable towards the end of the day but they help appaarently.
oltob thanks for tip about spanx slip - I have never heard of them but think I need one! Am 27 weeks tomorrow and yesterday bump was giving me serious agony - baby thrashing about like mad, constant braxton hicks and a feeeling like my whole stomach was going to explode even making the slightest movement.
all well this end apart from that. SPD seems to have receded somewhat which is just fab. Scared myself and DP the other night watching the BBC2 wonderland documentary on becoming a dad - the words of one of the men, crying as he was driving back from the supermarket, having done some emergency babygrows shopping: 'no-one tells you that your wife / girlfriend will fall apart completely after the birth....' made us feel quite terrified!! what havw we done? will i become a wreck? will we stop talking / laughing / sleeping altogether?! You expect life to change but....anyway. it's the creeping realisation somehow 2nd trimester is almost over - and I thought it only just began!! Have a lovely Sunday everyone. [smie]

cupcakefairy · 19/02/2012 12:56

Ah basse just had to post to make u feel better. I remember those exact thoughts first time round I was so so scared of how it would change our relationship & every time I read anyrhing in my books about things going wrong I totally freaked out.. I kept saying to dh how worried I was about losing 'us'.. but honestly having ds has made us even better & I love dh more. Yes of course there's a chance of pnd etc I'm not denying that but there is lots of help out there for stuff like that & I just think as long as u & dh keep talking & making time for each other you'll be just fine. In fact you'll be amazed how naturally parenting comes!

Basse · 19/02/2012 14:15

ah thank you cupcakefairy - that it very sweet of you!! Smile

SESthebrave · 19/02/2012 20:41

Basse - I can only speak from my experience with DS but I would definitely challenge anyone that thinks having a child together will bring them closer! I win't lie, it is hard at times but the 3 best pieces of advice I was given are:

  1. If your DH/DP offers to help, then let him get on with it his way. Don't watch over him as he changes the nappy and point out how he could do it better or more easily. He will find this out for himself and won't appreciate the thought that you always seem to know the best way to do things.
  2. If you are BFing, then really stress the things that DH/DP is doing that support this - feeding you, feeds the baby; he can take a lead in other ways such as with bathtime.
  3. (And this one is probably the most important!) Don't forget that whilst you're finding you're way and trying to be a good mum and a good dad, that you still need to work on being a good wife and a good husband too! I have to say we fell into this pitfall and just a few kisses, cuddles and thoughtful, appreciative words each day can make all the difference!

As cupcake says, keep communicating and you'll be fine :)

LittleSarah · 21/02/2012 11:16

Morning all!

Basse - Children certainly life changing but in many ways for the good. Lots of joy! Still you are a lot more restricted socially and that can shock some folks more than others. Now we will have three I think evenings out just me and dh are going to be very rare indeed but we have plenty of nice times in together. And I have some sneaky plans to ensure we get the occasional date night!

Yay for Sophia Diane! My mum is called Diane and would love for us to use as middle name if baby was going to be a girl.

Nothing much to report here, although I appear to have gained a kilo in three days! Bit strange as my weight gain so far has been less than average. Anyway prob just a random peak but will keep an eye. Will have GTT next week so should know soon enough if it is GD.

Who is having pancakes this evening? I'm going to do some buckwheat filled with cheesy leek bacon concoction from new French recipe book. No doubt dd and ds will just have cheese and ham though, philistines!

Really quite tired today. Still am officially in third trimester according to NCT so only to be expected I suppose. Zzzzzzz.

LittleSarah · 21/02/2012 11:19

Ooh! Forgot to say, we may have had potty training breakthrough! Ds weed in toilet three times yesterday and so far once this morning. I think he has the control and is beginning to understand how to use it... fingers crossed.

Pickle54 · 21/02/2012 12:48

Hi oltob- I can confirm it's #1 for us, due 10th May and scan said that we're having a little boy! xx

BlueCrane · 21/02/2012 17:14

Hello I keep falling off the thread for lack of posting and catching up but would like to hop back on

Can hardly believe the 3rd trimester is almost upon me Shock and that i have only 38 working days left in the office - double Shock but so looking forward to finishing now even if I haven't yet fully gotten my head around having an actual LO rather than just a super bouncy bean inside me

My being pregnant seems to have brought DH and I even closer together but I think we are both v aware of the need to keep talking, communicating and prioritising each other as far as we can once LO has arrived and making sure we keep up with being the other's best friend in the midst of the craziness of new parenthood IYSWIM.

Yorky · 21/02/2012 17:47

Impressed by your organisation Oltob, nice to see the list up to date, thank you

Full of hormones this week - dissolved into floods of tears all over DH last night, rivers of snot and the works!

So pleased to hear that little Sophia is doing so well Gotalittlelamb

Told someone recently that bump was due anywhere in the next 7-12weeks, which doesn't sound long, but can't wait to be able to turn over in bed comfortably!

Hadn't seen the haircut thread, I spend more time in Property/DIY than Style/Beauty and have been enjoying the property porn ones recently - set my heart on a moated Elizabethan manor if anyone fancies lending me 3.5mill!

Yes 15th May and it's our first!!

Newtothisstuff · 21/02/2012 20:03

.

Newtothisstuff · 21/02/2012 20:08

Omg.. Haven't been on for a while.. Can't believe there's been a baby born already.. Big congratulations and what a beautiful name.. Just goes to show.. I keep thinking there's 11 weeks left and it could happen at any time.. Hope you are all ok.. Nice to read all the excitement that's happening.. I've only got 6 weeks left at work.. Thank goodness. I'm absolutely crippled with spd.. It's evil Sad trying my best to make the 6 weeks because we need the money but it's looking unlikely now.
Went for our 2nd attempt at the 4D scan last week. Yet again she would only show us her leg she kept her face well and truly hidden.. Think she's shy Blush..
Had the breast feeding lecture off the midwife yesterday although I think she was nice enough to say its number 2 so I don't need to lecture you haha..
Take care everyone Grin

Basse · 21/02/2012 21:27

sesthebrave and littlesharah thank you both for your helpful advise! What a wonderful little forum this is! bluecrane I too am trying the same and I think we are managing to be open & honest, so long may it last.
oltob yep spot on date but we don't know he sex - though everyone tells me my bump has the shape of a boy so I reckon you must be psychic Grin

Wrigglebum · 21/02/2012 22:49

LadyMaybe, yes, still getting tons of braxton hicks. No cramps anywhere else, did get a few leg cramps for a while but taking some extra calcium seems to have helped. Get the bh worst when I need to wee, then again after I go Confused.

Getting over the worst of my cough and cold now but inevitably poor DS ended up with it. He's so lethargic and being really cuddly. Got a painful bladder at the moment now but I think it's well placed kcks from the baby rather than an infection as there's no burning when I wee.

Basse, things do change and you'll have silly arguments (the 'I'm more tired than you' one is recurring here!) but you get a new love and respect for your other half too. We actually got DS into a bed time routine really early on as it was important to us to have a bit of time in the evenings alone together, even if just to curl up on the sofa together. I hope this one is as good at going to sleep at night as he was (not that I'm holding my breath about that Smile).

DH and I were discussing names this eve, got it to two for each gender we think but it might all change! Now for the middle names...

cupcakefairy · 22/02/2012 07:15

wriggle that is great advice about the bedtime routine, we did the same with ds he had a bedtime (as in upstairs in bed) by 6 weeks old. Sometimes took me ages to feed/soothe him to sleep but it was so worth it for him learning early on that it was bedtime & we had lovely evenings together! He's been such a good boy sleep-wise too I really hope this one does the same Confused

sircharles I am sooo tempted by that haircut as mine needs doing & can't afford it! Good job I don't have any proper scissors in the house :)

gotmylamb gorgeous name for dd. We'll be using family names for middle name too. Ds has my dads name & this one will have either mil's or fil's I think its a lovely thing to do.

Right better get up & in the shower!

ballroompink · 22/02/2012 10:20

28 weeks tomorrow! wrigglebum I have started to notice BH when I need to pee and after I've done it. It's taken me a while to realise that those are what the weird sensations are though! Feeling the whole 'I just want to be able to move around properly in bed' thing now too.

After having a reasonably energetic 2nd tri I think the 3rd tri tiredness is starting to creep up on me. Spent Monday feeling so awful at work and just wanted to go to bed! We had our first NCT class last night and I was pleased with how it went. I know you hear mixed opinions on the NCT but the woman leading the course made it clear from the start that she is not anti-pain relief or anti-c-section and thinks it's important to give us a range of facts and opinions about it all. Also pleased to find that it didn't really seem to be full of scary 'alpha mummy' types as people seemed to want to keep warning me about.

Mikocat · 22/02/2012 12:18

Newtothisstuff - hello and welcome back! I totally agree about the SPD, I'm actually off work today even though I only have 6 days left in the office, I woke up this morning barely able to walk, think I must have overdone it yesterday (a 10-minute walk from busstop as DH couldn't pick me up and a driving lesson). So today I'm on the sofa with a hot water bottle :-(

I'm 30 weeks now and every day seems to bring new weirdness - yesterday I realised that my belly button might be turning inside out - euuuw! I have been complimenting myself on avoiding that so far, the day before that it was thread veins on the back of my leg discovered while in the bath.

littlelamb So glad to hear that Sophia is still doing well, even DH is taking a lively interest in her progress.

oltob · 22/02/2012 13:18

I only updated the 3 newbies Basse and waiting/gota - you were already on there - spooky. Do you have a pronounced line on yr tummy? if not my now disproven theory would be - a boy.

for me the third trimester is so far proving a right PITA. nothing specific, in fact all tests, including BP are absolutely fine, it's just general tiredness levels, hormones and general crying / anger are all on the rise. as others have found, impatience with DC is on the up, not helped by illness and really just feeling a bit drained. There's my moaning done for a while, hoping the rest of you are faring better. happy hump day.

LittleSarah · 22/02/2012 15:40

Very much agree with cupcake and wriggle about having a bed time. I've never been too fussed about routines generally (mine seemed to get into their own okay) but I also got dd and ds by 7-8ish after the first 2/3 months. Really nice to have some semblance of normality and evenings back!

Annoying pregnancy symptom that won't go away: ear stuffiness! Never had before but have had on and off now for about two months. Argh. Definitely feel like third trimester will be a tiring one, already flagging!

GotMyLittleLamb · 22/02/2012 15:47

Hello, wow, brings it home seeing the list, I remember being all chuffed when I updated and added myself, feels like a couple of days ago. Although she was actually born on the 8th Feb which means she is 2 weeks old today :D

So far DH and I have definitely become closer through all of this, he has become more fantastic than I ever thought he could be, although totally second SES advice (I realise I'm hardly the expert) to try and make time for thoughtful words etc, it has made all the difference when he has told me he is proud of me or I have told him how great he is being. It's something that is easy to forget about, especially when we are trekking to the hospital.

Sophia is still doing well, her breathing is improving every day. We had our first 'bad day' yesterday, they a worried about her tummy/bowel as she still hasn't pooed, they have given her a third suppository but if nothing happens this time they are going to speak to Manchester or Liverpool and she will be transferred for further investigation. The consultant seems to think she has either a blockage or a twisted bowel but obviously without proper investigation can't find out. She doesnt seem to be in pain or particularly bothered but her little tummy is quite swollen, really hoping she doesn't need to be moved but will just deal with it when it comes I guess.

oltob was that directed at me? Not sure what you mean by a pronounced line? Wonder if I even got far enough to start with boy/girl signs.

Thank you cupcakefairy and newtoallthisstuf we love her name and it's so nice to get such a good response, although my bloody MIL managed to send one of them moonpig cards with 'Welcome Sophia Diane' on the front and 'congratulations on the birth of Elizabeth' inside Hmm wonder if she's trying to tell me something.
