Congrats chocolatesparkle - little girls are simply wonderful! Did you buy a pink babygro yet?? :)

Newtothisstuff · 03/01/2012 21:23

I have no idea cupcake how my work don't know.. I'm convinced they are playing "pregnant or fat on me" but I'm normally a size 8 so hopefully they are choosing pregnant..

Congrats angel on the girl.. I've got a 5 year old DD she's a pain in the bum sometimes but I wouldn't swap her for anything haha

Everyone fingers crossed for me for a blue one tomorrowGrin

Yorky · 04/01/2012 13:55

Yay - just got a physio appt for next week! can't believe they fitted me in so fast, was told by MW to expect 2-3wk wait. Having left a bit late to pick DD up from nursery today and walked faster than is comfy they are now stuck in front of cbeebies while I wish I hadn't had quite such a useful morning - really going to have to learn when enough is enough:(

Good luck to those still waiting on scans, and glad everyone who has found out their 'colour' sounds happy. Don't be nervous newto - I've only heard one bad story of a 20wk scan when movement etc is good so I'm sure you'll be fine

Hello, ladies :)

Yay for good scans!Congratulations to all-pink,blue or yellow:)

Just popped in quickly as I'm back to work today-we've got wheels(nearly)!Managed to drag my DP shopping yesterday and put a deposit for a pram-M&P Zoom.3 wheeler and very light. Our very first purchase for the baby(with courtesy of MIL)!I'm 20 weeks tomorrow,so halfway-going to drop the bomb on my colleagues this week!

Happy scans and kicks everybody!

Newtothisstuff · 04/01/2012 17:33

Hi girlies !! Well I'm a totally gob smacked Team Pink !! I thought it was a boy for sure ! But all is well and she was posing for the pictures

LittleSarah · 04/01/2012 19:47

Hello all

Had scan today and all is well with baby, looks like little boy number 2 so dh was right! However my placenta is low lying and not just that but looks like it is covering cervix opening. Having looked online it seems that sometimes low lying may just mean it is on the cusp or overlapping cervix but mine seems over it totally.

Anyway it means another scan at 32 weeks to see if it has moved and possibility of cesarean, advice to have no sex (dh gutted) and the possibility of bleeding. Midwife did not seem very positive about the idea of it moving up but did say it hopefully would. Having looked online it seems that there can be 'degrees' of low lying and perhaps mine is a little less hopeful than others? Not sure, says online that you have placenta praevia if the placenta covers cervix at 20+ weeks which seems to include me but then midwife didn't call it that, just the 'low lying' bit.

Think I am going to call my midwife tomorrow to get a little more detail, however if anyone here can help I am all ears!

Glad to hear about all the other good scans, and congrats to everyone who found out sex, and well done with the restraint to those who didn't! It was lovely to see the little man in detail, he is a right wriggly thing!

Wrigglebum · 05/01/2012 09:16

Cupcake, yes I am very relieved! I was worried with all the cutbacks that I'd be told no ELCS so we were already checking our savings to see if we could afford private! Looks like we can afford that second car instead now since the NHS will do it Grin. Didn't really want private as that isn't available in my city and I didn't want to be miles from home in case there were any problems and baby had to stay in. Plus being away from home and DS would be horrible.

It might be worth asking if you can have an appointment to go through your notes and see what lead to forceps being needed. That way you might be able to see if there is anything that could be done to avoid them, or if their use is likely to be inevitable again. Then you might be able to make a decision from there?

LittleSarah I had low lying placenta last time and it moved up, but it wasn't covering the cervix. A friend had it too and was told it was borderline at her 36 week scan so had a CS rather than risk it. TBH she recovered a lot more quickly than I did with my tear! Hopefully your midwife can be a bit more helpful. No sex sounds bad but I guess there's always other things you can do Wink.

luckynumber11 · 05/01/2012 10:00

Hi littlesarah My friend had a low lying placenta until fairly late on, but it moved enough to be a few cms away from her cervix by the end of her pregnancy, and she went on to have a perfectly normal delivery. (I can't remember whether it was actually covering the cervix at the start, I just know it was too low lying for normal delivery for the main part if her pregnancy).
On the other hand, I would also say, please don't be concerned if u need a planned c-section. Having gone through both experiences of giving birth, my opinion is that the Caesarian was by far the preferable experience. When it is planned, and you don't have to go through the exhaustion of labouring first, and all the staff are ready and prepared, then I found a section to be a very calm, safe and positive experience. I had no problems with recovery afterwards - in fact, I was uncomfortable from my scars / stitches / injury etc from normal delivery for far longer than I was from the Caesarian scar! (unfortunately my hospital won't agree to ELCS this time, or thats what I would choose).
I hope it works out the way you want it to.

LittleSarah · 05/01/2012 12:23

Thanks wrigglebum and luckynumber11! I spoke to a midwife at the pregnancy unit today and she seemed more positive about it moving; 'quite likely' were her words. She said there are lots of reasons it could appear to be covering the cervix at 20 weeks and that as the uterus does grow quite a lot there is a good chance it will shift. Plus even after 32 weeks it could shift!

Although I really want another home birth I'm sure ELCS would be fine, just annoying to be so uncertain for another 12 weeks!

cupcakefairy · 05/01/2012 12:36

littlesarah hope it shifts out the way for you...these babies can move around so much that it probably will...but I do sympathise with the uncertainty of it all :( rubbish.

wriggle we met with the senior midwifery lady a couple of weeks after ds's birth to go through my notes but to be honest it didn't help much she just basically said 'no a c section wouldn't have been a better choice as there are more risks'. I was still in a bit of a daze at that stage though and dosed up on painkillers, maybe it would be worth talking it all through again. I am v lucky that a good friend of my family is an experienced midwife and lives just near me so I think I'll be asking her round one evening to talk about my options too, and possibly even ask her to be at the birth.

tostaky · 05/01/2012 14:12

I also has a friend with a low lying placenta that moved up. Don't worry too much!!

I am so jealous of those of you who don't show yet... I feel (and look) enormous already... I wonder how I am going to look in April... (insert Michelin tyres mascot here)

Last night as we were lying in bed with Dp and DS2 between us, I was telling DP that I was scared to be disappointed if we had another boy. And DPsaid " we can have a fourth one if u want"... He is crazy!!!!!
Some women have trouble convincing their husband to have a baby but I have trouble convincing him that 3 is enough!!! In an ideal world with lots of money, a big house, family nearby and support, why not. But that's not the case and I'm still pregnant with DC3... Way to early to talk about DC4!!!

Can't wait for Saturday to find out gender. I love my boys and would be delighted to have a third one, although a girl would be nice too...
Who else is having a scan this week or next week??

Newtothisstuff · 05/01/2012 18:10

Hi girls !! I told work today !! Kinda fibbed and told them I'd only just found out.. They were surprisingly ok about it !! Although I think they expected me to say 12 weeks not 21 weeks hehe.. I'm used to the fact it's a pink one again.. (feel bad for calling her a him the whole time) bought her her first little babygrow today :-)
Hope you are all feeling ok Grin

bonbonpixie · 05/01/2012 18:14

Had 20 week scan part two this morning. So happy as everything normal and MW got to finally see the face.

DH is convinced that LO is a boy ( I am sure it's a girl) We are sticking steadfast to team yellow, however when talking to the MW this morning she kept referring to LO as a 'he' should I read anything into that?

Basse · 05/01/2012 20:57

Hi ladies. I too had my 20-week scan yesterday and the baby is all good. It's amazing to see how much they move, when you can't feel it at all! I feel the odd tickle and light kick but it is still so faint I am still not sure whether it's the baby or just wind....anyway like littlesarah I too have a low-lying placenta so another scan at 36 weeks to see what happens. Having read the thread above I am not sure whether a c-section might in fact not be such a bad thing!! (The idea of tearing...). We decided not to learn the sex but I wonder if that made a differnce to what the sonographer showed us, or is the 20w scan like that for everyone? just didn't feel like we saw much at all apart from the zoom on internal organs and somebody who was on the move a lot! The pictures are not at all as clear as the 12-week ones!

Wrigglebum · 05/01/2012 23:10

Basse, tearing is not as bad as it sounds and don't let it put you off a natural birth. Not everyone tears and the vast majority of those that do have small tears that are stitched up quickly by the midwives. 3rd and 4th degree tears require stitching in surgery but you get an epidural or spinal. There is a lot of blood flow to the area so it heals fairly quickly and regular washing with warm water helps. I had regular baths with tea tree, lavender, milk powder and salt which kept it healthy and clean. I was also given advice from the physio in the hospital about how to build my pelvic floor again, how to sit on it and how to poo without putting pressure on it!

Most people recover quite quickly but I had problems as I'm allergic to aspirin so couldn't take the anti-inflammatories you normally get for pain relief. Hence I only had paracetamol and I got swelling around the scar which pulled on the stitches. So please don't let my whinging about my tear put you off! I had a 3b tear, as there are various degrees of 3rd degree(!), but it was mostly due to me being a bit too small down there!

Bonbon, our sonographers have warned us each scan that they always say he if they don't know so not to read anything into it! I'm glad there are others holding out for a surprise, most of my friends and family think we're bonkers not finding out!

cupcakefairy · 06/01/2012 13:11

wriggle I agree about the tearing...I would much rather tear this time than have an episiotomy as by all accounts from friends, they actually heal a lot faster than an epi.
That's so funny people think you're mad not finding out the sex...I thought the trend was swinging towards not finding out now, loads of our friends haven't.

Congrats new on telling work Grin must feel more real now!

LittleSarah · 06/01/2012 13:35

Hi Basse, commiserations on poor placenta positioning! Still I am going for optimism, will still do my yoga and listen to hypnobirthing CDs and wait and see.... also re tearing, I didn't tear in either of my labours (two very straightforward home births), so you may not either.

Tostaky - It's funny you should say that about your husband mine is just the same! And I also find it is mostly the opposite with other couples we know. My husband would have a couple more, cram them in where ever we could find space and be perfectly at peace whereas I am like how will we pay for them, and the food, and the heating and the blooming house isn't big enough and I'll be exhausted (more exhausted!), etc etc!

Just realised I have no baby catalogues sent to me anymore, like Blooming Marvellous and stuff. Ok, ok, boy no 2, have buggy, car seat, cot, etc, etc, but it is fun to look, and I definitely need a new sling! I'm getting on a couple of mailing lists asap!

HeidiHole · 07/01/2012 11:33

I've not posted for ages...but have had a lovely private 3d scan and am having a boy. Can't believe we are all at halfway now! It's flying past...

tostaky · 07/01/2012 18:45

Hello!!!
Had my scan this morning and everything looks ok. Happy mummy!
And we are having a boy! Grin I'm surprisingly happy but DP is disappointed not to have a girl.
Three little boys under 3.5 years.. I'm going to be busy! Smile

saggybaps · 08/01/2012 20:55

Tostaky OMG you are my inspiration, I am wondering how I'm going to cope with 2... But 3 under 3.5... I shall put-up & shut-up!

Feeling quite massive now at 23 wks. Plus have put on lots of weight over Christmas. Going to start preggo fitness & yoga. I feel totally unprepared for this baby, both mentally & physically. Need to start writing lists.

Yorky · 08/01/2012 21:39

I am sore :( looking forward to physio on Weds.
Tostaky, what are the age gaps between your DC? I had 3 under 3.5 as well - just! Will have 4 under 5.5 when this one hatches
Glad to hear more happy scan stories, and positive placenta moving stories too
LittleSarah - glad you haven't torn either, DH find it v amusing that I've never torn and don't have small babies, just lucky I think Blush

OP posts:
Mikocat · 09/01/2012 10:02

saggybaps - I feel the same, 24 weeks tomorrow and really quite waddle-y and ungainly. I plan to start pregnancy yoga this week too.

I ordered a cot yesterday and a moses basket a couple of weeks ago, apart from that all I've bought for the baby is a lot of (probably completely impractical) clothes in the sales.

Harecare · 09/01/2012 13:41

littlesarah and basse, I had a low lying placenta last time and had a scan at 32 weeks - still low and then at 37 weeks - moved! I hope yours move, but try not to be too worried as they'll more than likely move at the last minute so you could be worrying for a lot of your pregnancy - so stop now!!!
I got my scan date wrong.
It was today.
Baby is well and healthy.
It's a girl.
So disappointed and I feel awful for feeling so.
DP moved out at the weekend to stay with a friend for some "space", I sort of thought if it was a boy then at least the pregnancy traumas would have been worth it. I'm hoping he'll wake up soon and be himself again, but he is pissed off we're having number 3 and wishing he could turn the clock back 8 years to before we met.
Trying to just get on and be normal for the girls' sake - they think he's at his friend's to help with their house.
pelvic floor!!!!!!!!!
