Sorry for the new thread and crap name but i needed to start one oi how are you doing good luck xxx

I have fallen off the face of MN for a week or so and have loadsss to catch up on! I have been busy doing coursework and seriously nesting!!

PGP is awful, to the point of making me cry, finally got a pyshio app, but not for another 2 weeks :( doesnt seem much point. OH continues not to even attempt a massage if i ask and rolls his eyes.

Been having really bad shooting pains that take my breath away, but seems as though baby is head down (and very low) im guessing its a nerve he is on.

Very strange and TMI... but earlier (when i went to the toilet) i could feel what felt like the head bulging on the outside, through my lady garden lol... freaked me out!!

Good luck oi !! Fingers crossed

tye glad you took the sick advice!!

Morning...daily squeeze reminder!

oi enjoy your shower, great to get home for the weekend!

cheep yay sleep! I had lots too, I feel amazing this morning.

Well, we're not going swimming, DP's IBS is acting up so he feels pants. Planning to do the big clean out of the chickens instead! Not quite as much fun, but probably more useful. I'm also planning to put in the giant food for the freezer order so we can do all of the cooking next weekend.

It made things heaps easier after DD2 was born, we had frozen a fortnights worth of evening meals and plenty of cake/muffins etc too. I highly recommend doing it, especially meals you can eat with one hand because babies always want milk when you sit down to eat. We didn't get to do it with DD1 and ended up eating rubbish.

LittleMissFlustered · 05/11/2011 10:24

msb I'm on e lookout for a cheap second freezer as my current one is minuscule. I don't freeze a lot, but tend to do thinks I know microwave well enough. So soup and casseroles, as pasta mings when it has been frozen :(

LittleMissFlustered · 05/11/2011 10:26

Oh, I freeze rice though, as it works reasonably well. But it has to be separate to the stuff being lobbed on top of it. Which is a pain, but doable:)

HoneyLovesCake · 05/11/2011 10:45

LMF I got a small chest freezer from freecycle; it's not pretty & probably not that economical but since I only plan on using it for a couple of months it's perfect. I'm filling it with post-birth meals & xmas treats; feel very smug every time something goes into it :) I may not have maternity pads or have washed the baby clothes & nappies but at least we'll be well fed Grin

mopsytop · 05/11/2011 11:08

Morning all. I slept for ten hours !!! Apart from the 2 hourly pee run. It was awesome. Each time as soon as I had gone for a pee I went straight back to sleep instead of usual tossing and turning. Very pleased!! Makes such a difference.

Oi so glad you've been released, nice one - enjoy that shower!

I must get cooking/freezing also. Don't want to have to live off junk.

In the mood for comfort food today, might make some apple crisp yuummm like apple crumble but instead of butter/flour topping, it is oats, hazelnuts, breadcrumbs and butter. Crispy, delicious and very good for fattening up the bum.

HoneyLovesCake · 05/11/2011 11:09

mamamio website has a 30% discount code; ends today...may be useful for anyone using there stretchmark oil or butter. 36 weeks using the oil & still no stretchmarks but my skin has been feeling uncomfortably tight the past few days so I'm not counting my chickens yet. I have a couple of friends who got to 40 weeks with none but then went overdue & a whole bunch appeared :(

mopsytop · 05/11/2011 11:10

I have some around my appendix scar but nowhere else. Hope that's it. HATE them! I have been using bio-oil. I am not that impressed with it. Might try the mamamio, heard good things!

HoneyLovesCake · 05/11/2011 11:16

mopsy my mouth is watering after reading your post! Also reminds me of another good freezer staple...crumble mix. If you've got fruit in the freezer too you can make no hassle individual crumbles for when you just have to have something sweet :) I bet that crisp topping would freeze well too.

mopsytop · 05/11/2011 11:20

oooh good idea Honey, will make extra!

fusam · 05/11/2011 11:23

Just a quick post to wish everyone a lovely and restful weekend. We are going to see the fireworks (weather permitting).

HoneyLovesCake · 05/11/2011 11:25

I have an ugly scar on my knee that I used an entire bottle of bio-oil on with no effect whatsover so I'm not impressed with it to be honest. I really hope the mamamio stuff works as it wasn't cheap (but worth every penny if it does). If it doesn't then this is my back-up plan. It's obscenely expensive though so hopefully won't have to go there :(

Cheeptrick · 05/11/2011 11:34

Hi quick question:

I have got a mosses basket but the matress is pvc so its wipable when baby is sick or has uberpoop but i'm worried of the baby over heating, so should i stick with the pvc matress or buy a new one that would cost me 3/4 of the cost of the mosses basket? So mosses basket £100, new matress £80 to use for about 2 months untill baby out grows it?

Cheeptrick · 05/11/2011 11:39

Also:

  1. what have you put in our labour bags for your DH - i was thinking change of undies, food and a drink!
  2. are you taking your own baby blackets to hospital, so putting them in labour bag?
  3. Are you getting a gift for older siblings, if so when do you plan on giving it to them - in the hospital or when you bring the baby home?
Cheeptrick · 05/11/2011 11:40

*Your not our!

HoneyLovesCake · 05/11/2011 11:40

Shock at price of mattress cheep Hopefully someone else can recommend a cheaper option as we're been given a moses basket & I need to buy a new mattress for it too; I'd assumed that it wouldn't cost much but haven't looked yet.

Cheeptrick · 05/11/2011 11:46

Its the littlegreensheep orgainic mattress cos the mosses basket is not standard - the mattress is rounded and is 28x75 so it needs to be custom made, we have the orgainic mattress for the cot bed so thought it best to have the same in the mosses basket so not to upset baby when we transfer her. So alot more than the £48 for the standard ones Angry

mopsytop · 05/11/2011 11:47

The moses basket mattress I was going to buy was a tenner Cheep ... but maybe it's wipeable. I don't think the baby will overheat, you would notice quickly anyway. If it was that dangerous, they wouldn't sell them, surely?

msbuggywinkle · 05/11/2011 11:51

Anyone fancy sharing what we are freezing?

I'm sticking to one pot type things mainly, also making lots of flapjacks and banana bread as emergency bfing and DD snacks. Will be making them quite healthy, lots of seeds added etc.

The meals I'm doing are...

Sausage casserole
Shepherd's pie
Pasta sauces
Home made pizzas
Chilli
Curry
Stew and dumplings

On the food theme, my plan for after baby is born is pâté on toast and a glass of prosecco. I am really looking forward to it! And I'm planning on eating my own body weight in pâté over Christmas Grin

Cheeptrick · 05/11/2011 11:52

It the baby is sick or wet then the matress will not soak it up and if the baby can turn over then it will be rolling in it. DH said they would not sell them if not safe but then i was told not to use a bumper on the cot incase the baby got its head stuck under it and sufferecated but shops still sell them Hmm

If its not orgainic it might be cheaper but i really wanted the same mattress but i only bugeted £30.00 Shock

mopsytop · 05/11/2011 11:52

Beef and guinness stews, vegetable curries, tomato sauce base for pasta sauces, cottage pie, sausage and bean casserole. Making myself hungry here :)

Xiaoxiong · 05/11/2011 11:55

Hello all, just popping in to say that after my last day at work on Thursday (lovely - my work was awesome and had a whip-round, gave me a cheque for £70 and a big card!) unexpectedly my FIL and DH's two siblings rather unexpectedly descended upon us for the weekend - which is lovely but takes up all my time! They are very considerate guests though and do not expect me to do anything for them, although I have not given up my status as cook because I loooove to cook. Made these stuffed mushrooms with sausage and chestnuts last night and they were deeeelish - highly recommended!!

The "gotten" thing is a few billion posts back now but I was the one who mentioned it in the context of an argument with my DH's colleague. My understanding is the formal distinction between the simple past and the past participle of the verb "to get" is still preserved in the US, Canada and some parts of Australia while British English now uses the same word (got) for both tenses. I find the ability to distinguish between the simple past and the past participle (ie. between the past tense and present perfect/past perfect/future perfect/third conditional/passive) very useful. However British English people do still use the word in constructions such as "ill-gotten gains" and in the parallel cognate forgot/forgotten. In terms of when the shift happened, Robinson Crusoe (1719) and Gulliver's Travels (1726) both make the distinction but by 1767, Tristram Shandy is using "got" as a past participle. But then again I learned my English grammar in Hong Kong, memorising conjugations of English irregular verbs and my parents are American so what do I know Wink

Anyway, will be back later this weekend to tell you about how I hacked an Ikea cot to make a side-along co-sleeper which I am so proud of Grin

mopsytop · 05/11/2011 11:55

hmm cheep actually, changed my mind, going to buy one for 25 quid... but not 80 quid ... for 2 months? seems a lot to me. But I am a cheapskate also!

HoneyLovesCake · 05/11/2011 12:22

cheep you can buy non pvc ones from John Lewis starting at £12, 28x75cm but they're only foam with removeable washable covers. What about this one if you want to go with organic? Doesn't say whether it's curved & they show different ones in the photo so I guess you'd need to contact them to find out.

msbuggy good idea; your list has already added pizzas & pasta sauces to my list of things to cook...hope other people post too. I've done veggie versions of your list plus lasagne & fish pie. Also, for xmas/people coming to see baby I've done some of my favourite Delia nibbles...veggie sausage rolls & bitesize cheese onion & olive scones which are AMAZING warm with a bit of cambazola...mmmmm blue cheese Grin

LittleMissFlustered · 05/11/2011 12:28

I'm doing things that are gloopy:o

OiMissus · 05/11/2011 12:32

The price surprised me. My cot mattress was v v expensive - £150 or so. But the crib mattress was only £17 (both mamas n papas).
I haven't managed to escape hospital yet. We had to wait 3 hrs til they found monitor, and then, as if by clockwork I started to get big ugly contractions. We now have to wait. MW wants to talk to a doc, but it's weekend... Not had a contraction since. I swear it's the monitors that cause them!!
