Sorry for the new thread and crap name but i needed to start one oi how are you doing good luck xxx

I have fallen off the face of MN for a week or so and have loadsss to catch up on! I have been busy doing coursework and seriously nesting!!

PGP is awful, to the point of making me cry, finally got a pyshio app, but not for another 2 weeks :( doesnt seem much point. OH continues not to even attempt a massage if i ask and rolls his eyes.

Been having really bad shooting pains that take my breath away, but seems as though baby is head down (and very low) im guessing its a nerve he is on.

Very strange and TMI... but earlier (when i went to the toilet) i could feel what felt like the head bulging on the outside, through my lady garden lol... freaked me out!!

Good luck oi !! Fingers crossed

tye glad you took the sick advice!!

darcies just remember that if you overdo it and go into preterm labour work will have to manage without you anyway.

Mmmmcheese · 08/11/2011 18:14

darcies can you not do the handover on the phone? I felt terrible leaving work so early, but it is just work and they will figure it out somehow.

msbuggywinkle · 08/11/2011 18:23

Positive stuff....well, I brutally murdered a celeriac earlier, I hate peeling the bloody things and the DDs adored it too which was gratifying!

DarciesmumandBump2 · 08/11/2011 18:27

will be taking tomorrow off and will be having a discussion with my MW about finishing early x

mopsytop · 08/11/2011 18:28

That's great Darcies - now don't go worrying about work! It will take care of itself. You just rest up y'hear!

DarciesmumandBump2 · 08/11/2011 18:28

Msbuggy Never had celeriac and never thought to have one or what to do with one!

DarciesmumandBump2 · 08/11/2011 18:29

anyone got that bowling ball feeling down there? Hmm

msbuggywinkle · 08/11/2011 18:32

Gratin. Lots of cream, garlic and chilli...bunged in oven. Another Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall triumph. I'm contemplating refusing to cook anything that isn't a river cottage recipe actually as everyone in our house always loves them.

msbuggywinkle · 08/11/2011 18:33

I don't have a bowling ball today, but I actually couldn't sit down last night as the pressure was so uncomfortable.

Xiaoxiong · 08/11/2011 18:48

I'm going to order a pizza tonight. DH has house duty till midnight and I am feeling v sorry for myself! Comfort eating FTW. (Though celeriac gratin would be even more comfort eating...)

Latest suggestion from the maternal unit - that we rent a serviced flat near Brompton Hospital in Chelsea, and I live there (either alone, or with her - no thought to poor DH) from now on so I am close to hospital. I have never in my life been to that hospital, don't know anyone there, no connection whatsoever. I think I managed to reply civilly to that one...just...

In all the furore about my mother I forgot to say I had my 36 week checkup today - baby head down but not fully engaged, facing my left, measuring a bit large, predicting baby size around 9lbs(!) and there was a little protein in my urine so MW thinks I might have a touch of a UTI - have been necking cranberry juice and water all day!

mopsytop · 08/11/2011 19:00

Tyel, your mum seriously thinks it is a good idea to uproot you from your home at this late stage in pregnancy, with no partner, and paying extra rent?? The mind BOGGLES!

Xiaoxiong · 08/11/2011 19:15

You know mopsy, if I read it on some other thread I wouldn't believe it and I'd be rolling my eyes. But I am sitting here seeing it in black and white in the skype chat right here on my screen. Sob.

mopsytop · 08/11/2011 19:18

God, this must be so stressful for you! I really hope your mum calms down!

HoneyLovesCake · 08/11/2011 19:39

Evening all...back after a long day shopping & I'm absolutely knackered. Bought DP's bday present & a baby forehead thermometer reduced from £34.99 to £7.34...love a bargain but am Shock than anyone would pay the original price.

Tyel from previous descriptions of your mum I can't honestly say I'm surprised at her reaction but I am disgusted & insulted on your behalf that she would make such vicious & uneducated statements to you. She's being completely unreasonable & I think you may be better off giving her a day or two to calm down & consider the effect of her words before listening to any more of them. The comment about the little gravestones at your grandmother's house is just sickening & an appalling thing to say to a pregnant woman. I do hope that you don't give in to her bullying behaviour; you've made a well-considered decision so I hope you stay strong & stand by it.

aethelfleda · 08/11/2011 19:46

Tyel- good that baby seems happy, the size will be inaccurate so don't rrad too much into it unless you had a sizing scan (and even they are
Only an estimate): my Dd2 was 8lb 11, a little eyewatering but she got out fine! (rolleyes) at your mother... You know where we all are!

Mmm, celariac! Looks like an Ood, but chop it into little sticks, lightly boil it for 5 mins max and cool then stir lashings of mayo for a delicious coleslaw alternative!

KateM77 · 08/11/2011 19:58

Tyel so sorry to hear about your Mum's reaction. I was thinking your response to her text could be "right back at you". She doesn't seem to realise she's been describing her own behaviour rather than yours Shock. Stay strong. Hope it all works out OK one way or the other.

Really pleased to hear I'm not the only one struck with the hormones :)

I'm another one with small boobs and had no problem with BF. In fact, I recall a demonstration with a balloon in NCT class where she squeezed it to make it smaller and easier for baby to get its mouth around. Small boobs can actually be an advantage - a big boob could be the equivalent of you trying to wrap your jaws around a beach ball Wink Not meaning to offend any buxon ladies out there, just to reassure those less well endowed!

Xiaoxiong · 08/11/2011 20:02

You're all lovely Thanks and making me feel so much better. I am going to be reactive not proactive - it's up to her to change my mind, not the other way around, and she's certainly not going to do it the way she's going about it so far. So will not contact her again and will wait for her to get in touch now.

To answer your earlier question plu there is an element of her thinking this is anti-intellectual and suspicious of science (ironic considering I'M the bloody trained statistician!!), but I think she's more worried I'm being brainwashed by lentil weavers and not fully evaluating the risks. I've been an American expat my whole life - have only ever lived in the US for university - amazing country, wonderful to visit but just not for me to live there. I've lived on three continents in my life, could go back to any of them to live but I do love it here. I'm a classic third culture kid Smile

aethel that's the best description of a lazy girl's remoulade I've read in a while Smile God now I'm hungry, watching Masterchef and waiting for the Domino's dude...

OiMissus · 08/11/2011 20:05

tyel time to switch off from your mum for a few days certainly! Don't let it get to you any more.
Also beware the UTI. Go go go the cranberry juice!! Apparently, that's what set off my contractions and the hospital stay. And I'm measuring big too.

I only wish we were similar on the parental side too - in that you could have a mum as supportive as mine.
Try and stay positive, you'll be a great mum, and you're trying to give your child the best possible start. More virtual hugs. X

msbuggywinkle · 08/11/2011 20:19

tyel stop talking about pizza! I'm starving!

DarciesmumandBump2 · 08/11/2011 20:24

Tyel Stay positive I'm sure your mum will come around.

MsBuggy Might have to give the celeriac thing a go!

DD is sleeping soundly. DP has gone to camera club with my Dad - thankfully only up the road. I'm resting in bed and thinking about DD and history stuff - she loves history at school and currently can tell you eveything about King James I and Guy Fawkes.

KateM77 · 08/11/2011 21:22

I've just built a bedside table for DD's new room. We're moving her out of the nursery, which is all in neutral colours, and decorating her a girly bedroom. Very proud of myself, but when the wardrobe and chest of drawers arrive on Fri I might leave those up to DH to build :)

DarciesmumandBump2 · 08/11/2011 21:25

Well Done Kate Grin

plupervert · 08/11/2011 21:39

What a pity her suggestions are so unpredictable, Tyelperion - you could turn it into a perverse sort of fun, by playing Bonkers Birth Bingo!

Well, let's have a try anyway:
B - you go back to the States to be under the personal care of the best ob-gyn she ever read a biography of (who of course turns out to be retired, and of course no-one will let you fly at this late stage).
I - Privatise your local hospital in time for the birth!
N - "Discover" a connection to some Chelsea-dwellers which makes Brompton Road all right after all, since you'll be staying with Binky and Penn Prescott Bush III.
G - You'll be shopping with her in Knighstbridge anyway, when your waters go!
O -There's a medical convention at your local stately home conference centre, which will coincide with a big snowstorm and your labour. After your midwife's snowmobile breaks down, you will be conveyed thither by helicopter over the snow, to be cared for by the snowbound and incredibly qualified and well-equipped doctors.

Sorry, this is making your mother out to be a rather vicious snob, so I hope you won't hold it against me later Shock; however, a bit of anger and contempt now might insulate you a bit, and allow you to make decisions calmly!

aethelfleda, I loved the comparison to an Ood!

LittleMissFlustered · 08/11/2011 22:04

I'm raising a takeaway to you this evening Tyel Here's to doing things that we oughtn't, no matter who is telling usWink

I'm off to encounter the consultant tomorrow. I'm hoping it's not going to be a battle. If it is, I will be ready. Then am off to buy a steriliser and a couple of bottles as my back up for what happens with the psychiatrist next week.

Have a good evening ladies, I'm away to bed when Masterchef finishes:o

LittleMissFlustered · 08/11/2011 22:05

Also, I have access somewhere to a celeriac soup that is apparently nommy. If anybody wants it let me know and I will poke my friend until she surrenders it:o
