Kayano that's so nice of them! Hope you have a lovely relaxing evening admiring it all Smile

Gooseysgirl · 06/11/2011 18:49

Hi all, wow over six pages to get through when I sat down to catch up with the goings on... I've definitely been more hormonal last few days, was doing the shopping yesterday morning and the tears started to flow when I picked up a Christmas card for 'grandma' (mum's first grandchild)... got some strange looks in Tesco :o
Can anyone recommend a good, not too pricey, digital camcorder? (Not for the birth BTW!!!!) Want to be able to email plenty of footage of the baby for my mum, brother and sister as they live in Ireland so won't get to see baby as often as the in-laws.
We have been given lots of stuff second hand including a cot so am not buying any other nursery furniture as baby's room is also our spare room in a small two bed flat so can't really overload it with too much stuff. Have decided on Uppababy Vista for the pram/buggy. Not going to buy til January in the hopes that we might get a reduction as new 2012 model due out in late spring.
Have handed in MAT B1 and letter to boss saying I'm off on mat leave from 22nd Jan (5 wks before EDD). It can't come quick enough... I will have 2 weeks hols for Christmas between now and then so I can't complain!
Looking forward to my birthday on Friday (11/11/11 !!!!), DH taking me to new restaurant at St Pancras and MIL coming to stay for wknd (she's a real sweetie) as it's BIL's 40th birthday the following week so we're off out for a big family lunch on Sunday... I am spoiled!!! :)
Baby's movements getting stronger and more frequent, DH finally able to feel the kicks... he's made up!

Goosey quick question about mat leave. I'm hoping to finish around that time, I was going to put in Friday 20th January as my last day, the 22nd is a Sunday, do you work weekends? I'm not really sure how it works, would it make sense for me to have the 22nd? (2 extra days until I have to come back lol). Your birthday celebrations sound lovely! Sorry no clue about digital camcorders.

notcitrus · 06/11/2011 19:27

Wow, just found the new thread and took 10 min to read it!

Good news is I'm feeling a lot better. Bad news is I have to go back to work after next week, and the stuff I enjoyed is all finished. But it's only a month, mainly from home - it can't be that bad I hope!
Pelvis is hanging in there - a lot better than last time round anyway, so I can go to and from nursery twice a day as long as I do almost no other walking. Went out on Fri night and journey was a lot harder than planned, so splashed out on a cab home. Last night we sat in the loft room and watched the fireworks across South London from the comfort of bed!

deardear - do afterpains get worse with 2nd babies then? Mine weren't bad with no.1...

My birth plan last time was a great success - under 1 side of A4 with bullet points covering my allergies and vital points like I am deaf not stupid, get my explicit consent for touching me in any way at all (vital for my sanity even if being asked re blood pressure every 15 min got a tad tedious after 24 hours...) and had a section on 'stuff I don't care about at all'! Best advice I got was to put after 'OK for students to observe/do exams under supervision', "Would prefer to avoid cutting/stitching but if necessary I want it done by an expert!" By day 2 my stitches were being admired and I recovered really fast. :)

So I'll write the same again just with the addition that I hope to avoid the postnatal ward totally and just get the hell out ASAP!

I've looked round a couple shops but I keep thinking 'I don't need any of this for no.2!' What I do need is a height-adjustable cot, a moses basket and an infant car seat - hopefully can borrow the last as we'll probably only use it once to get home! Actually I think we used ds's three times before he outgrew it...

notcitrus · 06/11/2011 19:31

oh yes - hormones going haywire too. Hard to say if it's pregnancy or seasonal depression. At least ds is being particularly adorable - in between being exceptionally exasperating...

PamBeesly · 06/11/2011 19:37

Guys just a quick question, when does the third trimester start? I have checked online and get answers from week 24-week 28? Does anyone know for sure?

hermionejgranger · 06/11/2011 19:39

oooh yes notcitrus the adorable/exasperating thing - and people say it's us pregnant ladies who are hormonal! If you ask me the menfolk started that rumour to distract us all from their moodswings and inconsistencies!! :D

babycarmen · 06/11/2011 20:30

Pam pretty sure its 28 weeks.. everywhere ive seen says 28 wks anyway.

notcitrus Glad youre feeling better :)

Me and DP had a bit of a tiff this morning and its left me feeling horrible the entire day, we never argue. :( Its my fault, the problem basically was that since being pregnant ive turned clingy and lovey-dovey towards him and basically i went in a mood because hes not the same to me and i felt unloved and almost started crying about it. Stupid i know, but every time i tried to get a cuddle he pushes me away and walks off :( Im going to bed soon, he finishes work at 10 and i feel too rubbish to face the awkwardness and too tired to talk about it with him. Hes off work tomorrow so im sure we will talk about it then. No need to tell me to get a grip, ive already told myself. Huff.

PDog · 06/11/2011 21:18

I think third trimester starts at 27 weeks pam.

I'm finishing on 20th jan too coffee. Mat leave always used to have to start on a Sunday so maybe that is why.

Hope you get things sorted tomorrow babycarmen.

Glad we haven't scared you first timers away with all the talk of huge boobs and head to toe poos! when if you feel up to getting intimate with dp/h after the birth you might want to keep your bra on, unless he particularly enjoys the taste of breast milk Grin.

Think I have over done it a bit this weekend. Been on my feet for most of it and feeling shattered and achey now. Bed I think.

24+5

pinkhollie · 06/11/2011 21:20

carmen if it makes you feel any better me and my DH had our worst argument ever last weekend basically over nothing, it was so bad and I cried so much that I had to take Monday off work as I had totally exhausted myself. The good news is that it really cleared the air and shocked us both into being far more considerate to each other. He has been utterly brilliant this week and we've never felt closer.

QueenFee · 06/11/2011 21:24

Yes i'm hormonal too :(

To be honest apart from jeans I avoid maternity stuff. The vast majority of tunic tops, floaty and maxi dresses can be adapted! That said I always have the kind of bump that looks like I have shoved a beach ball up my top.

I am trying to decide whether to do overnight in hosp (nice escape from everyone else to sit and gaze adoringly at dc4) or go for a 6 hour discharge (no other screaming babies 6am starts and bright lights)

Off to get me some more cheese...

Gooseysgirl · 06/11/2011 21:25

Coffee yes I've given my leaving date as a Sunday and my return to work date will most likely be a Monday 26 weeks later :) at which point I will be on hols for 6 weeks (I'm a teacher and am totally working the system to my advantage... in a less stressful job I would have tried to keep working a lot closer to my due date). If baby comes on time I'll have 6 months with her before I go back to work on 1st Sept.

QueenFee · 06/11/2011 21:30

As for swollen boobs. I never got them despite serious over supply issues! I just keep feeding lots! Newborns usually feed every hour or 2 anyway they have such tiny stomachs! However I used to sleep on a towel as I would wake up in a pool of milk lol

Have been eyeing up lilypadz and wondering whether to get some this time, stop the flow braless sounds good to me.
I won't be buying disposible knickers either dead uncomfortable. A pack of the biggest cheapest knickers primarni do thanks.

notcitrus · 06/11/2011 22:00

I got the suddenly swollen breasts about 2.5 days after birth - it had never occurred to me that a big problem with positioning would be suddenly having no idea where my nipples were because they were somewhere on the underneath of the breasts and I couldn't see them! After about a day they got squishy again so I could lift them and find out where the nipples had got to...

Currently wearing my nursing bras from then...

deardear · 07/11/2011 09:39

Goosey a couple of my friends are teachers and went back to work 2 days before the start of the 6 weeks holiday. that way they got FULL pay for the holidays and not just SMP. Something to think about if you didnt know? Work the system lol

Feel alot better today. the dress i bought from Next actually looks really nice on. had a munch with friends daughters baby girl yesterday at her christening - sh was gripey so i grabbed her and a bottle and within 5 mins she was fast asleep with me gazing gooey eyed at her. she was bloody heavy though! 6 1.2 months and i was glad i had an arm rest.

tired this morning. just off to work so be back later. dentist after school and then pub tonight.

phlossie · 07/11/2011 10:29

A couple of my friends have done what deardear said too, goosey.

Grin at losing your nipples, notcitrus!

I'm broken today. Have a head full of cold (thanks, DH) and was awake from 3am until 4.30am. I think the baby was actually doing star jumps. I should be tidying and cleaning as FIL, step MIL and SIL are coming for the weekend. But I'm in bed with my laptop instead!

We've settled on boy's names! At last - Stanley Benjamin (Stan) or Albert Benjamin (Albie). We just need to get two girl's names and then we're good to go.

DH is making an offer on a house as we speak. I am on tenterhooks!

melliebobs · 07/11/2011 11:32

phlossie I LOVE Stanley and that's on our boys list of possibilities! Awww

Got a handful of names for each possibility but gonna wait till it pops out to decide what combination of them we are gonna use.

melliebobs · 07/11/2011 11:35

Just counted and only 48 working days left! Got my matb1 on Friday so off to the office this arvo to make it all official! Very excited. The countdown is ON!!! As you can tell I juts looooove my job Hmm

deardear · 07/11/2011 13:19

ooh phlossie Stan is my dads name. We have a couple of names - Charlie, Harry (short for Harrison which is my maiden name) or Jamie and middle name will be DH's name. still not sure which one and will probably wait for LO to arrive and see what he most looks like!

32 days left at work :))))))

Sugar80 · 07/11/2011 14:01

Am I going to be the only one left working??? I don't finish until 10th Feb!

PamBeesly · 07/11/2011 14:20

Sugar you are not the only one left working, I technically will have no maternity leave, I'm self employed and I'm entitled to zilch, not even the time off to have the baby!

Phlossie both names are beautiful, really classic. So far we have Rowan and Hugh picked but we'll need to see him and he could be something totally different!

Has anyone else got painful ribs? Mine are sore on the right hand side front and back, I'm sure its just uterus stretching and the baby moving up.

24+3 :)

deardear · 07/11/2011 14:42

sugar i am taking 4 weeks holiday before i start maternity as our year runs the same as an academic year so have to get it all in before i finish. ML actually starts on 1st Feb.

Pam can you get incapacity benefit?

littlemonkeybix · 07/11/2011 15:24

Sugar80 I haven't handed my forms over yet, but I'm going to have my last day as Feb 10thGrin

Phlossie I have Stanley as a middle name if we get a Team Blue pop out Grin Thomas Stanley William Surname Grin

I'm still having a hard time getting to grips with our Pink name... Sad It's a nice name, but it feels alien to me. Lily Anne. hmmm.... I asked DP if we could add another name in there so I could feel a part of the naming but he said on the privisor I drop the William from the blue name Sad Like an adult, I didn't reply.

Am i being a total cow with the thought that it's me being ripped in half to produce our wee poppet, I should get a hand in the names... Even though blue name is my pick. But my mental reasoning is that my boy name is my dad, his dad, his middle, his surname. So pink name being his long line girl name (there have been at least 5 Lily Anne Surnames) I feel out of it. I want Lily Anne Something Surname..... Am I being a crank?! ESPECIALLY as I don't have a "Something" to put in there!!

It is driving me to distraction.... honestly, it's a nightly brainf*ck!

Everything else OK here... except a TMI moment.... Woke up in the middle of the night with incredibly.... erm... "ready" lady parts!! as I totally over sensitive!! Am I just from a circus of freaks!! Confused Am I actually quite normal??!!

Off to have some bananas and custard - mmmmm!

littlemonkeybix · 07/11/2011 15:25

sorry - "as in totally over sensitive" Bloody typos!

PamBeesly · 07/11/2011 15:43

deardear I'm in Ireland and I'm not entitled to anything, not even tax credits! So it will cost me money to hire someone to cover my maternity leave!
