5th thread? I'm lost off with all the chat! Lovely to have a nosy at everyone on facebook, if you haven't been added yet, get yourself on there!

Old thread is here, as you were ladies Grin

Kayano I'm also adopted and I'd say not knowing is a good enough reason to request one. I'm having one due to having a BMI of 30, however they did look a bit concerned at the blank space in the family history section of my maternity notes and they seemed keen to get me checked out for as much as possible. It can't help to ask.

Sugar80 · 27/11/2011 16:12

Zhen, thank you for another good c-section story!! They're really reassuring!

I was reading the giving birth naked thread earlier. I have to say [disclaimer] as someone who has never given birth and can't imagine what it is like [/disclaimer] the idea of being completely starkers while doing it just fills me with horror. That's me personally. In the same way as this "skin on skin" stuff freaks me out a bit, and the idea of getting my baps out to BF in public seems a bit peculiar. I have NO ISSUE whatsover if other people feel comfortable with this stuff. It's just not me. I think I'm a bit funny like that... not really into touchy feeling naked stuff!!!

PamBeesly · 27/11/2011 16:12

*Kayano8 I requested one and they said absolutley, I'd have one to get your mind at ease just in case. I just want you to know (that in Ireland anyway) it invoves getting bloods once and hour for three hours. I know you don't like 'sticky' things :( Unless in the K they have a more magical way of doing it Grin

This morning I went for a little bit of Xmas shopping in town and started to feel awful, really bad pains in my stomach, breaking out in a sweat and feeling dizzy. I was with my husband so we drove home straight away, however I couldnt make it and had to get him to pull over three times because I was so sick :( has this happened to anyone else? It isn't like morning sickness were I felt nauseated first and then got sick, this was very intense. I just had scrambled egg and toast for my breakfast so nothing fancy.

I also saw the labouring naked thread and thought it was bizarre some people were so judgemental, I think its personal and I can understand why some women don't want a stitch of clothing near them!

Xavielli · 27/11/2011 16:24

I gave birth to my first in the buff, wasn't a conscious choice really I was just so damn hot! I was 19 at the time so thought I'd be very body conscious but I wasn't at all, you really don't know how you'll feel until you are there.
With the other two I was just in a bra, which came off as soon as they were born to feed. Again, it's just been happenstance how it came about - trousers off for internal, top off when I got too hot.

With regards to breastfeeding shyness, I have always found it much easier to feed say in a coffee shop than a friends house. Odd huh? No one actually has to see anything though, nursing vests are great as they keep your tummy covered whilst giving easy access. Then you just pull your top up and there is nothing on display.

Think ds2 might have chickenpox! Either that or there is a particularly viscous flea in the house...

Haha! Dd is distraught as she just lost a tooth whilst eating an apple and swallowed it. We'll have to write the tooth fairy a letter...

PamBeesly · 27/11/2011 16:36

Xavielli that tooth will have to 'pass' I'm guessing, maybe the tooth fairy can give him £2 for the inconvenience? Whats the tooth fairy's going rate these days???

Xavielli · 27/11/2011 16:37

Depends what the biggest coin the tooth fairy has in her purse is, hehe. Usually £1

PamBeesly · 27/11/2011 17:03

that sound very generous :)

hermionejgranger · 27/11/2011 17:19

There are some funny people on here, aren't there - the things people get all judgey on and make a fuss about! I have not made any plans for nakedness or otherwise - i'm hoping that when I get there I will just be able to do whatever it is that I feel like doing and have our baby safely! Although I am a bit worried about pooing myself in front of DH - that is an, as yet, unshared joy...

I'm always shocked at the inflation rate for the tooth fairy. When I was losing my teeth (ok so it was 25 ish years ago) the going rate was 10p a tooth. Although I suppose polos were 6p a pack and a first class stamp was less than 20p. But still...what's a first class stamp now? 41p? That's still only just over double what it was then - not 10 times... ah well, I suppose the tooth fairy does work in finance, doesn't she? Wink

so now...x factor or a nice bath before dinner time? hmmmmm.....

deardear · 27/11/2011 18:08

46p for a first class stamp :(

i used to get 5p for a little tooth and 10p for a big tooth - again its 30+ years ago (shocking as some of you werent even born!!) and mars bars were 9p each and a marathon was known by its proper name rather than an americanised one.

as to the nakedness - i had a nightie on so half wayish. not bothered about where i feed as tends to be discreet but very funny about doing it in front of my parents and couldnt do it!

hope everyone is ok. doesnt seem long now till we start popping! only got about 20 days left at work! had a lovely walk around the field with the dogs this afternoon on my own and got back in the truck and thought i am going to do that more often when i stop work as it felt so good. wont walk up to the field though as have 3 stiles to get over and if i suddenly go into labour i dont fancy having to walk lol

phlossie · 27/11/2011 19:41

Hi everyone

Esme sorry about the GD result. My friend had it, and she managed it very well through diet, and her dd wasn't too enormous. It's a pain, but it's doable.

It sounds really stupid, but I feel like I have a bit more than my fair share of luck in life - I conceive really, really easily and have two healthy, beautiful children, and I feel like my luck's going to run out! It's totally irrational and silly - there is nothing to say that this baby is going to be anything other than fine and gorgeous, but I'm still scared!

Talking of naked, my friends and I did something very funny today. A friend of ours (little gang from school days; our dhs call us 'The Coven') and her husband are travelling around America at the moment, and we have the keys to their house. So we went to their house today and posed naked in various rooms - we're making them a calendar-girls style photo calendar. It was very, very funny and I cannot wait to see their faces! We're doing things like decorating the Christmas tree, doing a barbeque, having high tea... Grin. Needless to say that I have no inhibitions about being naked!

29 weeks today!

hermionejgranger · 27/11/2011 20:20

phlossie that's brilliant :o love the calendar idea! I know what you mean about the "fair share of luck" thing though...it's as though all the time it's a waiting and guessing game as to when things are going to go VOM (vertically oriented mammaries).

speaking of luck, though, will be grabbing it with both hands this evening as we are just off to the pub quiz :)

Kayano · 27/11/2011 22:28

Half day tomorrow. Then anti D

Sad f34r!

Think I will ask about GTT despite being terrified. I need to overcome this for the baby Blush

Knackered still but at least not long left at work

woowa · 27/11/2011 23:09

lol phlossie!!!!!

I hate being naked and planned to labour in a nighty, or tankini top if in water. Needless to say, within 5 minutes of getting to room, i was sitting on the toilet starkers discussing my birth plan with MW...no clothes went on for many, many hours. I still can't believe it, but I really didn't want any clothes on, and didn't notice at all. IN fact, i'm struggling to remember when I did put anything on, but i suppose I must have done to go home 2 days later!!

woowa · 27/11/2011 23:10

30 +5 - the time seems to be flying!!

mummymccar · 28/11/2011 07:52

Esme - so sorry about the GDD result, I'm sure you'll get loads of fab advice though that will help you manage it.

Kayano - good luck with the injections today! Will be thinking of you.

Sorry so many people are suffering with insomnia, aches and pains. Slept ok last night but only because I got two hours the three nights before and was like a zombie yesterday. Went Xmas shopping and was so grumpy that we came home early and I just ordered the last of the presents online. Having a duvet day today, going to catch up on some reading.

I'm not too bothered about the birth plan. Planning on having a water birth and g&a but happy to go with the flow. I figure there isn't much point writing a long and detailed plan when it'll probably go out the window within minutes! The only thing I'm a bit reluctant about is an epidural. I had an accident as a child and was temporarily paralysed from the waist down for a couple of weeks afterwards. It was by and far the most terrifying experience of my life and I'm not sure I could willingly put myself through that feeling again. So no epidural here please!

In regards to clothes during the birth, I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up naked at some point!

Love the calendar idea! (was that you Phlossie?)

Kayano · 28/11/2011 08:22

Injections are tomorrow but I'm so anxious then I am spending my half day off today with my hypnotherapy cd. I nearly had a panic attack last night. DH was very very shocked Sad

But thank you Smile

littlemonkeybix · 28/11/2011 11:20

Awww... Sorry about your GD Esme hope you get all the advice you need. I have GTT test number 2 on Dec 9th... so far one test was clear.... I am not holding my breath!

Kayano I hate needles (not as much as you) and have managed to get all mine done... "for the good of the baby" it's a good mantra!

woowa I have a front placenta, and have no specific lumps... just generic kick/punch. I literally can't tell it's arse from it's elbow! Kind of disappointed... Sad

I have been getting pins and needles in my arms when I sleep. I am SO bad at sleeping on my side.. I'm a fronty... so struglling! I wonder if there's a link with sleepng on my front and a fromt placenta??!! Has the egg fallen on the front of my tummy and bedded in while I was sleeping?!

Well after an emotional outburst and DH being an arsehole, I have ended the weekend on a high buy GETTING MY PRAM AND CARSEAT SORTED! YAAAY Grin Feeling mildly organised (very mild) now for the cotbed and furniture browsing!

Hope we are all well... and any sicknesses are subsiding (booo sicknes... BOOOO)

26 today!

Kayano · 28/11/2011 11:32

FUCK SHIT ARSE WANK!!!

My super long
Post about my feelings and my panic attack that has got me sent home for the second time has just vanished and I'm not retyping.
Sad

littlemonkeybix · 28/11/2011 11:36

kayano panic attacks are shit... those who've had them know... those who haven't can usually understand to a degree (esp if they've witnessed them).

Big silly from the monkey - panic attack veteran since 1992 (age 12)

Hope you can reach a chilled out place today... and it carries through to tmw

x

CoffeeOne · 28/11/2011 12:14

phlossie my group of friends are also playfully referred to as The Coven and for a second I seriously thought you may be one of them and had been hiding a 7 month pregnancy from me! Hah. Excellent idea about the calendar Grin

Had my GTT today. Wasn't much fun :( now waiting for the results...

Some friends of mine have just done a lovely calender for charity
www.facebook.com/FMCAL
Dont they look fab!

When in labour you do things you never would do normally. Clothes on or off -who cares these people are all staring at your fanjo!

Crazybit · 28/11/2011 14:33

Phlossie-That is soo funny about the calendar, fab idea. Hope today goes well :)

Esme-Sorry about the result, at least you know so it can be controlled.

Um...that's all I remember for now, dammit!

Got a growth scan tomorrow :)

Oh Kayano hope you are feeling bit better now [sends chocolate and Brew], haven't ever had a panic attack, but can completely sympathise [big higs]. I hate it when those long posts go missing.

Not too fussed about being naked myself, once you have had your legs akimbo with a consultant, two registrars, two midwives and two anaesthetists, MIL and DH in attendance (DD's birth) I figure that seeing the rest of me is the least of my worries!

My birth plan will be to aim for vaginal birth this time around and to have the freedom to move around (i.e. not stuck lying on back being monitored continously), no pethidine, no epidural, just gas and air, but if my placenta is too low I will be having elective cs anyway so will have to wait until 4th Jan to see.

Got the news last night that my great-niece, who is 3 months old (premie baby) is back out of hospital after being in high-dependency unit for most of last week with bronchiolitis. I am glad that our babies will be arriving closer to spring and hopefully by then these winter viruses will be on their way out. It is not going to be easy keeping them away with a toddler who will pass every bug on from playgroup.

27 weeks and got a budding female footballer in the making.
