Hello :)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
DizzyKipper · 17/10/2011 06:32

Hello all, mind if I join the thread? Just got my second BFP - line a bit darker than the first so figured it was now time to get myself into the Brooking an uneventful pregnancy thread - just so this bean knows there'll be no nonsense this time and s/he better stick around 'til the end. Currently 4+1 so a little way to go yet.
Hopefully should be back later to read through the thread and get to know you all properly, unfortunately I've got to set off for work soon.

Biscuitsandtea · 17/10/2011 07:04

Absolutely delighted to have you here Dizzy. Congratulations again and lets get brooking so this bean knows it is sticking around xxx

Have you worked out what your due date would be yet?

musicalmrs · 17/10/2011 07:19

Dizzy, yay! So glad the second BFP is darker, congratulations :) Will be brooking that your bean is sticky, and shows you no nonsense this time!

Thinking of you Too, hope today goes ok.

Purple You're both mad with the studying! ;) Then again, it's very common I hear - lots of people I know have done PhDs in and around pregnancy. I've been desperate to do mine for ages, but have struggled with funding, so if any opportunity arises I may still take it up...

On the down side.. I'm feeling considerably more nauseous and have come down with a hideous cold. I'll go to the office today (easy day!), but if it's still hideous tomorrow.. is a hideous cold enough of a reason for a preggo to take a day off of work? ...to be honest, if my voice hasn't come back, that's probably enough reason (teaching full classes tomorrow).

Had a lovely weekend, though got nowhere near enough work done. Did tell my best friend (who was a bit slow on the uptake!), and then cracked and told my parents who we were also visiting. Hurrah! Will be telling DH's family over the week.

I'd never heard of the BabyShow! Happens to be in Earls Court on a day both DH and I have off of work, so maybe we'll head over..!

BartletForAmerica · 17/10/2011 08:10

Dizzy, great news on the BFP!

Still vomiting in the Bartlet household here (much to the delight of my DS who loves playing with the toilet), but I am much, much better since being on the tablets. I am eating and drinking much more normally (not huge amounts but better) so it is a bit more like having 'normal' morning sickness now, I imagine.

Purple, studying with a baby can be done. I just handed my thesis in a few weeks ago (same week as my BFP). We have needed to be really organised at times, but it really wasn't very hard. I just needed to be focused. DH took a week off work to let me do nothing other than write, which definitely helped.

Also, purple, my local hospital has physio clinics for SPD, so they can see you. In my last pregnancy, I was given a copy of this leaflet at that clinic, which might help in the meantime. (I also found Pilates has helped greatly since DS and wished I started before he was born.)

Pregnancy-Related Pelvic Girdle Pain

Thinking of you, Too, today. Hope everything goes well and all the results are fine.

Purplebuns · 17/10/2011 09:03

HelloKipper welcome and congratulations! We haven't had a newbie in any ages so it is veyr nice to see you :)

Music glad you have had fun telling people, sorry you are poorly, definitely take the day off of you are bad as you don't want to get really run down. Take care of yourself, lots of hot honey and lemon. (If your nausea can stomach it.)

Bartlett Thank you for that leaflet it is very useful. I will ring the Physio dept. and see if I can get another appt. I just thought that as she just gave me a tubigrip and recommended a belt that there wasn't any exercises I could really do.

The exercises for my back have really, really helped and that is all to do with my pelvis anyway, so I suppose it isn't too strange it has migrated to the front..

I think we are all thinking about you Too today, all the best x

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 17/10/2011 11:01

Thank you all so much for the Brooking and good wishes - greatly appreciated! Appt at 2, so am currently still in bed watching daytime TV, MNing, drinking tea and eating chocolate. Trying not think about it yet!

Purple, I got exercises for SPD the last time, but unfortunately they were in a leaflet tucked into my pregnancy notes so I never saw them again after I left the hospital. They mostly involved sitting on a yoga ball doing pelvic floor exercises, but I could really do with re-reading them now. That's mainly why I want to go back to the physio - to remind myself of the exercises. That said, I was in agony after the physio visit (at about 36 weeks) - she moved my legs about to see if I had pain, and I didn't at the time because I had just started mat leave and it had calmed down with all the extra rest, but about 2 hours after the appt finished I was in agony and could barely walk. It was probably partly my own fault - she tried to move my leg so I lifted it for her, even though she said not to. I didn't get a tubigrip or anything because it wasn't so bad when I saw her, and I never went back when it got worse. Anyway, your physio will have exercises you can do - try it!

Mine has calmed down a lot over the weekend, so it must be aggravated by work... I wonder what I do wrong at work? I do climb stairs at work and not at home (live in a bungalow), plus I sit still for long periods working at the computer, leaning forward over the desk etc. Even hoovering yesterday hasn't brought it back.

Hi Dizzy, welcome! Congratulations on the BFP! Make yourself comfy.

Bartlet, glad to hear that the vomming has subsided somewhat, and Dream, glad Confused to hear yours has come back...

I am in awe of all the pregnant studiers. I am terrible at studying - I tried an open-learning MSc through work a couple of years ago and remembered just why it was that I only just scraped through uni with lots of fails. It was not entirely that I hated law - a lot of it was my own fault! Luckily for me work had not thought out the MSc course and it fell apart, so no one ever realised. My boss wanted me to try again this year but baby bean has provided the perfect excuse to put it off for now.

Right, am off to make another cup of tea.

dreamfeeder · 17/10/2011 12:13

Hooray for a slightly more normal experience bartlet, I was amazed by the difference there was with the prochorperazine compared to the cyclizine. See, they're magic ;-) I hope you will also be like me in a sudden reprieve at 13 weeks. I'm still not so bad today either, so my hopes are rising that it's just passing...

purple, I second all those saying go back to the physio. I don't do women's health- I'm neuro-developmental paediatrics, 0-19, and mostly mainstream school age so I'm fairly useless, but I'd say the being taught the way to get in and out of bed, the not going up stairs alternate steps but doing them one at a time etc etc are also really important. One of my colleagues had horrendous SPD, signed off from 22 weeks throughout the rest of her pregnancy, and she kept pushing it, ended up on crutches and had pain for a year after she gave birth (at 35 weeks). She would certainly advocate resting it and not aggravating like she did. She got a toddler step for her 2 year old, stopped lifting him into car (used her step), for cuddles, he got on the sofa and she sat down and cuddled him there and she said the physio was useful as she didn't remember-or ever know- half of it. We did a minute bit of women's health when I trained iirc! I think if you explain your symptoms to the doctor- like the pain you've had with one walk etc and if it's not possible to get a lift every day, you're stuffed you'd be signed off again. My best friend was signed off in her last pregnancy with varicose veins in her fanjo that made standing and walking painful! From 24 weeks to term.

Hello dizzy congratulations and lovely to see you here! Pull up and bucket and get comfy.

Too, brooking like mad here..

Purplebuns · 17/10/2011 12:51

I have a second appt. for Wednesday now. :)
I already sleep with pillow between knees and a few other things and take stairs carefully.
I am hoping they can give me some actual exercises rather than precautions so I can strengthen myself. I am resting a lot at home and taking breaks between chores.etc
In the day it is fine, but by the evening I am feeling quite down as I haven't done much and I am in pain. Or I am feeling ok but I have done literally nothing on those days! I am used to being active so I am not liking doing so little/only being able to do so little.
I am worried I am going to put on a lot of excess weight too Blush I never did lose the weight from DD. Stupid to be bothered by this I know!

Too very glad you are taking it easy, I will be brooking extra hard come 2pm, I hope you have a takeaway tea planned for after and some nice cake or something as a treat :)

scarletfingernail · 17/10/2011 13:35

Welcome dizzy and congratulations again on your BFP.

Just popped on to say I too am brooking for Dumbledore and will be thinking of you all afternoon.

Bartlett I really hope that sickness eases off for you soon.

I'm pleased to say that for the last 2 days I've had no nausea whatsoever. In fact I feel better all round. My tiredness has eased off, I've only had to get up for 1 wee for the last 3 nights. All pg symptoms seem to have buggered off. I'm hoping that's because I'm over 13 weeks now and not that anything awful has happened. 6 weeks and 3 days until my 20 week scan. But only 3 weeks and 1 day until my next midwife appointment where I'm hoping she'll get the doppler out.

dreamfeeder · 17/10/2011 13:55

scarlet we're so similar it makes me chuckle. is your DH saying 'For GOODNESS sake, enjoy it while you can, it's FINE!' like mine too?! Grin. I am like you, feeling generally quite a bit better, possibly earlier than in my last pregnancy too, though I'm still vomiting a bit, but on and off and not constant nausea any more. And worrying myself over whether it's 'normal' or whether its a Bad Sign. DH helpfully said again that morning sickness doesn't stop suddenly with a mc as it ytakes a while for hormone levels to drp- thanks dear, very reassuring (it was, slightly... in a wierd way). Ohm and no wees in the night for the last 3 nights, and DD slept through!!!! Only 11 days til my consultant appointment, but I doubt anyone will get the doppler out for me, though i may ask the consultant. From what I hear, 15 weeks with twins will be too early and they won't in case they don't find both heartbeats and it panics you.

purple, i'd be surprised at the physio who gives you no exercises Wink

I went for a lovely bike ride with DH yesterday while my dad and his wife took DD to the park. Did about 16 or 17 miles, when i haven't really done a 'proper' bike ride since I was 27 weeks pg with DD, but it felt so good, I know what you mean about the frustrations of forced rest purple. Apart form my bum- i'd borrowed his wife's bike and oh, my arse

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 17/10/2011 15:50

Am back - so far so good. Am now worrying that I might be leaking amniotic fluid and not realise. I have to call Triage if that happens or if I get any bleeding, but cramping is normal. I haven't got any cramping yet. Bean was jumping around happily, though, and didn't seem fazed by the big needle right beside his or her head. They scanned me again afterwards (very quickly and cursorily, I might add!) and Bean was still moving, so FX all is well, at least at present. Results should be back by Friday at latest.

Biscuitsandtea · 17/10/2011 15:56

Glad you're back safe and sound Too. Keep resting and we're all thinking of you xxx

Purplebuns · 17/10/2011 16:00

Phew! I think if the baby is fine straight after that things are supposed to be fine. Take it easy just in case, very glad it went well :)

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 17/10/2011 16:30

They said if I was going to miscarry it would probably happen in the next week to 10 days. Am curled up on sofa wrapped in a duvet and have no plans to move for the next three days!

Wants3 · 17/10/2011 16:55

I wil also be studying through this pregnancy and beyond, I just completed a 3 year degree and signed up for a BA with honours just before I got my BFP!
Ps I spent another sleepless night at the hospital with my sister! Baby is back to back so contractions are just trying to move him around and not dilating or lengthening the cervix. She Was so fed up at being sent home again! Thanks for continued No Brooking.

LoveInAColdGrave · 17/10/2011 17:31

Brooking massively for you, Too. Get lots of rest!

scarletfingernail · 17/10/2011 17:39

Dumbledore That's the best outcome you could hope for so far, it sounds like it went as well as it possibly could. I don't suppose you feel any relief yet as you now have the hard bit of waiting. Do not think of moving off that sofa until bedtime (unless you need to pee of course).

dream a 17 mile bike ride? Shock just the thought of that makes me want to crawl under the duvet. Yes my DH sounds like yours. He completely doesn't get that in my head no symptoms must = bad news.

Wants your sister's labour sounds very much like mine. I hope the waiting comes to an end for her soon. Those back to back contractions are excrutiating.

dreamfeeder · 17/10/2011 19:39

too, glad it went ok. FX for the next 10 days. I have a good feeling it'll be fine though... In my (large amount of) waters... We'll all be Brooking for you. Rest rest rest! Are you back at work before your results? Hopefully the midwife tomorrow will be reassuring, once you hear your baby's heartbeat. Oh, and i leaked amniotic fluid when my waters broke- it IS obvious. I felt a 'gush' at 5am that woke me up. I though maybe I'd wet myself (I was 40+2) but then thought why? I've never leaked wee. I then went to the loo, and on way back had another gush and I knew ( I thought I did!). I rang delivery suite and they can test the fluid too (which they did when I went in the next morning). That was a slow hindwater leak, whatever that means. Slow enough that even after 30 hours I had 2 20ml pockets left round DD. I'm sure you won't though. But you will know should it happen, don't worry about that bit or missing it if you do- it's like gushes and NOT like weeing yourself or discharge.

scarlet, I used to do so much exercise, pre-DD, sigh... running club, running, cycling, swimming, fell walking. A weekend without a good amount of outdoor exercise was a wasted weekend- how different my life is now!!! I'm a big exercise fan. I'm definitely going to make an effort to get out on my bike before the twins come, and do some swimming, and things for me!!

wants your poor sister, she'll be so exhausted bythe time that baby finally comes... DD was back to back. She didn't turn til 10 min before she came. My contractions did nothing! Hope your sister is staying positive ish and isn't too shattered already.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 17/10/2011 23:44

I'm stuck way out in the boonies on a work conference where I can't explain to anyone why I'm not drinking (because I haven't had a chance to tell my development leader yet and I can't risk her finding out from someone other than me). All in all a bit crap!

Just popped on briefly to say that I'm glad Too's test went well in stage 1. I will be keeping up the No Brooking for your little one to stay safe and snug, and for good results to come back asap! Also No Brooking for Wants' sister!

Will msg again tom eve when I return to civilisation!

Biscuitsandtea · 18/10/2011 06:32

Too I can second what Dream said about waters going.

When I went into labour with ds, it was because my waters went. And the feeling I had was a constant uncontrollable need to wee. So I went to the loo, got up and instantly needed to go again, repeat ad infinitum until we'd phoned the hospital and DH had leisurely made some sarnies etc to take with us!

But I didn't really have 'gushing', it was more like a succession of leaks but each time it was only like a wee. It was definitely different to a wee though - much more urgent.

I imagine that at 36 weeks I had more water to go, but I would guess the sensation would be the same? Like a wee but without bladder control, because it isn't coming from your bladder?

Anyway, hope you're still resting up. Do take care. Brooking hard for you. Is the mw coming round this morning? xx

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 18/10/2011 08:17

She is supposed to be coming, but I have spent hours waiting in for her in the past when she has forgotten appts made over the phone, especially ones where she was in her car and didn't write it down immediately! So I am up and dressed, but trying not to hold out too much hope. DH was very sweet tidying up the living room and the kitchen last night so I wouldn't have to do it this morning.

Thank you Dream and Biscuits for the info about waters going! That helped a lot - I relaxed after reading that and knowing I wouldn't miss it if it happened. I spent the first part of the night unable to sleep on my left side, because I had this vision of waters leaking out of the needle wound and puddling between the membranes and the wall of the womb Blush. Given that I can't even see the needle mark on my tummy, I am fairly sure that it must have closed up right through. No cramping/bleeding or anything to report - now let's just hope the MW turns up! She said she'd be here on her way to work at about quarter past 8...

Good luck to Wants' sister!

Biscuitsandtea · 18/10/2011 08:31

Hope that mw turns up Too. And hope the day passes quickly enough for you, well, you know, as much as possible Smile.

I have a Halloween related question. I wasn't sure where to post it but I thought you ladies know everything so I'd ask you all. I need to get ds a halloween outfit, and wondered if anyone had suggestions? I've been a bit underwhelmed by the boys selections I've seen so far - girls always get nice witches outfits and it's job done, but the boys ones..... I don't know.....

I'm not interested in making anything, this is a shopping expedition. So I wondered if anyone had seen anything good and also where have you seen them. I've been to sainsburys and seen them there - anywhere else got a good range? Am wanting to do a potty training friendly expedition today to try and get something! Oooh, I wonder if Asda would have something? They normally do lots of that sort of thing?

pommedechocolat · 18/10/2011 08:46

Give the mw a call if she doesn't turn up Too - but I hope she has been already! Great news that everything went well. Brooking for you continues.

Biscuits - yes, Asda and also the local poundshop yesterday had lots.

Biscuitsandtea · 18/10/2011 08:53

Yes I would call the mw too Too if she hasn't already been - if it has slipped her mind I'm sure she would want to put it right and would be able to pop in later since she was so keen to help you.

Hope she's already been xxx

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 18/10/2011 09:15

Hmph. MW was here, more or less on time, chatted, had cup of tea, took my BP and then realised she'd left her doppler behind! She's coming back at lunchtime. However, she's going to be late for her first clinic appt because she had to go back for the doppler, so I'm taking her estimated 12.30 arrival with a large pinch of salt.

Biscuits, are you near any costume shops? Partymania or similar? They sell either costumes or else cheap bits like pirate hats/swords that would be good for boys. If not, echoing Pomme with the poundshop/local bargain shops.
