Hello :)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Purplebuns · 15/10/2011 18:34

Dream I am glad you agree r.e my friend, I keep getting Hmm looks when Dd wants to use the potty and I ignore or distract her, rather than dutifully, taking her nappy off immediately, setting her upon the throne and praising her. Maybe I am a slattern though.

Really glad your eating more and being looked after, I don't drive yet :( so can't comment on cars but I am sure you would get used to it?

My back is really 2000xs better now with physio and being lazy resting like the Dr told me.

Do I need to go back to DRs to go back to work? New to me... I just thought I went back once the note had expired. I want to go back to work, just to make sure I will be in agony and therefore I am not actually skiving.

Is this stupid? I suspect it might be, I am just not good at this being signed off and actually having a valid complaint lark! Do I definitely have to go back to the Drs?

Biscuitsandtea · 15/10/2011 18:45

Purple I agree about your friend - out of order to interfere and do that after you'd said no. Out of order to do anything after you'd said no, and I am also pleased in a funny way that she didn't wee! I know that we all have different ways of doing things and there are undoubtedly times when we all look at something a friend is doing and think 'well, I'd do that differently', but I would never think to do anything about it. (and of course my friends must look at me and think the same thing). That's the sort of super annoying things that grandparents do and make you seethe about them!

Dream - definitely get parking sensors if you can. DH's company car came with front and back sensors and they're ace. We had front and back sensors put on my car when we bought it and the rear ones are great. The front ones are rubbish because you're so flipping close to something before they start beeping that you're already stopping/ed. So even if you get a car without them you can get them fitted. We paid £200 each for the front and rear ones and wish I'd not bothered with the front ones. That was at the main dealer for colour matched ones. I think halfords might do them a bit cheaper but I don't know if they'll colour match them? Never really looked into it to be honest. And I guess it depends what colour your car is as to whether it matters much iyswim.

Too that makes perfect sense re the growth scans. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I am so glad you seem to be getting such good care and are being looked after. When will you get the results of the amnio?

Good luck with the carpet cleaner too - would be very glad to hear how that turns out. Mostly we have wooden floors downstairs so mainly the accidents have been mop-up-able but not all of them!

Purplebuns · 15/10/2011 18:56

It wasn't a strong No from me, I just said I had to go in a minute and was getting DDs coat. I didn't say anything about being miffed as I was surprised as she is not usually like that, I think she probably got a bit carried away as her DD had just done a big wee a bit before? I am not always the most assertive as I don't like to rock the boat, however if it happens again or I get much more Hmm, I will.Sigh.

Too, I did forget to say that I am glad you are getting such great care as well. R.e pet cleaner, I use litter tray antibac spray for accidents as other sprays can be harmful to cats and litter tray spray is hard core germ kill. + doesn't stain the blue carpet downstairs. Luckily most accidents are on laminate as most of her toys are there and she seems to have accidents when distracted.

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 15/10/2011 19:07

Purple, I think you only need to get a fit note if you want to go back to work before your sick note has expired. Otherwise you just go back when your sick note runs out. Your work isn't technically allowed to let you back if the doctor has certified you as unfit for work (most places ignore this - I know it because one dickhead guy at work complained about his colleague coming back early so she had to go off again until she could get a fit note). It is silly to go back to work just to see if you wind up in agony, but I would probably do the same. How much full-pay sick leave do you have left? I am hoping I don't have to be signed off as have already used 6 weeks sick leave (went back to work too early after DD's birth and was signed off after a month), plus will be using more next week. I'm not sure how much I have, though. I also don't want to wind up starting mat leave early - I want as much time off as possible with Bean!

Biscuits, the carpet cleaner seems to have already turned the stain white instead of yellow - a vast improvement on the Vanish. Tis called Simple Solutions Stain + Odour Remover, and it claims to completely remove the odour as well as the stain. We'll see!

Biscuitsandtea · 15/10/2011 19:08

Even so Purple I would never put another persons child on the potty unless they expressly asked me to, or I was looking after them on my own, but then I would need pre approval, ie that they were being potty trained, or were potty trained before I'd go there. Or maybe if they were hopping up and down saying 'i need a wee wee' but then I'd probably still check!

I hear you re not being assertive - I'm like that too and DH ends up having to listen to me rant about all the things I haven't put right at the time!

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 15/10/2011 19:14

I meant to say that I will get the results of the amnio within 3-5 working days. I have to discuss with them how they give me the results - I do not want any bad news left on my answer machine, which has already happened to me twice, both times by the same hospital. If it's good news they can tell me however they please, but if they have to tell me something bad I want them to tell me properly. Anyway, I should know by Friday at the latest, I hope. It did strike me yesterday that Monday may not count as a working day as the amnio isn't until 2, so the worst case scenario would be waiting until the following Monday. I really hope I don't have to wait over the weekend! I actually get 2 sets of results - the quick ones will say whether it is Down's or not, and the longer set check for rarer genetic problems. I think those take 2 weeks to come back.

Purplebuns · 15/10/2011 19:39

I am definitely not going back to work before my note expires!
Will the physio do anything about the spd? She gave me a tubigrip to wear but it makes the muscles under my bump hurt.

You get SSP for as long as needed when it is pregnancy related. I have to wait until next payday to make sure they have done it properly.

Can't wait for your good results. Too I am brooking. Plenty of hands to hold here as well.

  • Good news on your rug :)

Biscuits I think we could be RL friends as we are so similar. Wink

Smile Purple

LoveInAColdGrave · 16/10/2011 09:04

Hello all, I found you! Purple, I'm so sorry you're in so much pain.

10 days to go until my 20 week scan! Excited and nervous. Also worked out we have 12 weekends with no plans to choose a new car, buy all baby stuff, rearrange house and decorate nursery! Yikes! We have already had the garden made secure (next door have a scary dog which kept getting in before, we now have a proper fence) but I cut down a bush last weekend to make space to move a bench and created another escape hole Blush so think we need to call Fence Man back and give him even more money...

Biscuitsandtea · 16/10/2011 09:28

Hello love - glad you found us Smile. Not long now until your scan - it will be so lovely to see your wee bean again Smile. I still have almost 4 weeks to wait for mine - boo!

Really want to start feeling kicks now - any other second (+) timers had them start yet and at what stage?

Am currently lying in bed listening to DH trying to apply some of that window frosting film to one of our windows with DS's 'help' (he he he). I suspect it would be hard enough without any assistance but he is doing a grand job. Oh, and trying to potty train him at the same time too Smile

I love Sundays when I get a lie in. Grin

I'm off to see their hard work I think as they seem to be nearly finished now Smile

Wants3 · 16/10/2011 11:00

Still no nephew for me! Had a lovely day yesterday though, DH treated me to some new bras as I have gone from a 36C to a 38D in the last week or so! Eeek! I am currently 8+ 5 weeks so I think I am going to be a beached whale by the end.Blush

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 16/10/2011 12:03

Wants I'm sure you won't be huge, and that sounds like a great bra size shift! I bet your DH is thrilled Grin you'll be a hot mama! Still No Brooking for your sis!

Biscuits I hope the windows are okay! Your DS sounds like a very handy little man!

I'm sorry to hear about the spd sufferers. I hope this is a temporary adjustment glitch and that this will actually improve later in pregnancy rather than worsen, I'm sure it's possible if we all Brook No Argument and you ladies continue to take care of yourselves.

Too wishing you the very best of luck for tomorrow's test. What time of day is it?

By the way, has anyone here ever been to The Baby Show exhibition? It was recommended to us by some of DH's recently sprogged up cousins, but I was slightly put off by the £13.50 each ticket price. Is it worth it? I do a lot of my baby stuff research online, but I like the idea of having a chance to actually touch and try out lots of baby stuff in one room. Do they really have all the different prams/car seats/cots etc at the exhibition?

Wants3 · 16/10/2011 13:01

I have booked my tickets scream as we also want to get a look and feel of what's on the Market at the moment. We are having to get everything from scratch so we will also be going to NCT sales and eBay. We are going on the Friday.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 16/10/2011 13:10

You'll have to tell me what you think of it after you visit Wants! We'll probably be going on the Sat (unfortunately! I bet that's the most hectic day!) so I'd love any recommendations you have for things not to miss!

We're also having to get everything from scratch. I kind of like that though, the thought of all this shiny new stuff for the shiny new baby! (Ignore me, I talk a lot of girlie nonsense at times!) DH is slightly less thrilled with the idea of spending lots of money though! Grin

dreamfeeder · 16/10/2011 14:40

Hello,

Wants3 · 16/10/2011 16:41

Will do scream I am also looking forward to shiny new baby things for shiny new baby( I love girlie nonsense!)
Thanks for tips dream

LoveInAColdGrave · 16/10/2011 17:12

We're off to the Baby Show on the Sunday, looking forward to it but found the Wedding Show a bit overwhelming so hoping it is slightly less crazy... Probably not, though!

Biscuitsandtea · 16/10/2011 19:14

Just wanting to wish Too good luck for tomorrow - will be thinking of you xxx

pommedechocolat · 16/10/2011 19:24

Oh yes, tomorrow is the 17th. Thinking and of you and brooking for you over here too Too

Purplebuns · 16/10/2011 19:50

I will be thinking of you Too tomorrow. Best of luck not that you need it as we all brook!

I had my first tutorial for my course today, which was great!

I would love to go to a babyshow but there are none near me. Envy Enjoy it and if anyone pushes a Bugaboo Donkey let me know as it is a pram possibility for us. :)

LoveInAColdGrave · 16/10/2011 20:06

Brooking for you, Too.

jaggythistle · 16/10/2011 20:24

Brooking for you too Too. :)

Still at bloody work, can't wait for a day off tomorrow!

pommedechocolat · 16/10/2011 21:00

I eyed up the donkey too purple but none on eBay yet and price tag new scared me! Have got an iCandy pear waiting in garage now off eBay.

dreamfeeder · 16/10/2011 21:55

Will also be Brooking No Argument and thinking of you too. Here's for the all clear, and the rest of your pregnancy being blindingly uneventful.

Someone on the twins thread has the Bugaboo Donkey and loves it. She said she went all geared up to buy the baby jogger city select but changed her mind in john lewis- spent £1400 on it with the accessories etc though- think she did get 2 car seats for it iirc. I think I'll go for a baby jogger city mini, or possibly even elite and carry one of my three in a Boba 3G baby carrier, or Ergo. Think a Boba is more versatile. Not totally sure though. The other, scary, option is the ABC Everest double buggy with reclining toddler seat, but it looks ENORMOUS. theres one going on ebay (but not with the reclining toddler seat I'm after) and it just goes in a Citroen C8 boot according to the sellers info- a C8- thats a proper, full size MPV!!! Monster buggy or what...

6 weeks 3 days (i think 6 weeks 2 days tomorrow) til my 20 week scan, and only a week and a half til I see the consultant. not that i'm counting

My sickness reprieve is over, though I'm kind of reassured (and hungry!). Still, bed now, and see what the morning brings I think!

purple, you should see how your back is- you only get one. Don't cripple yourself just to 'prove' you're not fit to work- I meant if you went to the gp, I'd be really surprised if they didn't sign you off again, NOT go and get signed on again!!! I think you're not meant to go back before a sick note runs out without being signed back on because if anything happened- accident etc- your employer has someone on the premises working who is technically unfit to work iyswim. Will ask poor DH who is toiling through yet another post grad diploma in occupational health now for work. With an exam in April I think, with newborn twins.... disaster looms...???

Purplebuns · 16/10/2011 22:50

Pomme a donkey has just come up on ebay in Ipswich, £800 strating bid if that was any use for you?
I am terrified of the price tag. DH isn't and wants one Hmm if I sell all of my pushchairs I wouldn't need to save up much more, so it is doable.

Dream I walked into town earlier and then was sat down for most of my 4.5hrs tutorial and I am in a lot of pain with my SPD now (I got a lift back). I would have to walk to town and then work a min 4hr shift and walk back home, in a standard day of work, might actually kill me :(
Do you think they Dr would sign me off again? I wasn't going to go back before my note expired, no way!
Also, is there any physio for SPD? I have a tubigrip to wear but it hurts my stomach muscles.
Happily my back is so much better with the excercises I am doing religously but the SPD has just replaced it :(

As for studying with a newborn, we will be in the same boat, I am doing my course and DH is doing OU, both for a min of a year and we have both started this month. Lunatics. DH has an exam too!
