Hello :)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Biscuitsandtea · 01/11/2011 09:53

Oh gosh Dream can't believe you had to deal with d&v bugs as well as your MS Sad

You poor thing. I've only been sick 3 times today so not too bad at all. Just keeping sipping some water, so at the very least I have something to bring up!

NinjaChipmunk · 01/11/2011 09:54

dream I used my ring sling all the time until ds was 3 and a bit, I think I may treat myself to a new sling too...

Biscuitsandtea · 01/11/2011 09:55

Wow Ninja I'm intrigued by the idea of a ring sling or something similar, but had no idea you could use them for so long! It kills me carrying ds anywhere! How did you carry him?

NinjaChipmunk · 01/11/2011 10:06

I currently have a huggababy ring sling but may well buy a new one and also a toddler patapum but that didn't get used much. DS loved the ring sling and was most put out when I couldn't carry him in it anymore. He used to love going to sleep in it as basically it was a big cuddle! I might go for a mei-tai this time, you can get some absolutely gorgeous ones or I might make my own.

NinjaChipmunk · 01/11/2011 10:06

biscuits these are ring slings

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 01/11/2011 10:29

Oooh, I like the ring slings. We have something similar but the name has gone right out of my head, and am at work so can't check. We also have a secondhand BabyBjorn - DH wanted the one-shoulder sling but I think the BabyBjorn will be better for my back, and I am very short so the other sling swamps me.

Biscuits, hope you feel better soon! D&V is horrible at the best of times. Sad Sending good Brooking vibes your way.

Sorry Scream, I did know your scan was a 16 week one but I had forgotten.

dreamfeeder · 01/11/2011 12:10

I can still easily carry dd in my Ergo baby sling, which is borrowed, but think I will buy a Boba 3G baby carrier which is basically the same but you don't need a different insert to carry from birth. I've stopped now I've got a.bump though... Tempted by the huggababy but i have a bad upper back so think more equal weight distribution might suit me better. Also wonder if I can wear 2 ergos with hip carry position to carry both twins together...

Hope you're improving a little biscuits, I have clear memories of the grimness...

DizzyKipper · 01/11/2011 17:29

Ninja how did your booking in appointment go?

musicalmrs · 01/11/2011 19:06

So sorry to hear you're ill Biscuits - hope you're feeling better now :(

Too - congratulations on your pink bean! How exciting! :D I think I'm swaying more towards finding out now - DH wants to, and I suppose I should help him bond with the baby in as many ways as possible. He also says he wants to know which room to make into the nursery (we have a spare room and a study currently - one has a pink carpet!).

On the subject of DH, he is mightily impressed with our midwife. Not only is she lovely, but her car numberplate is "Midwife" spelt in a clever way with numbers etc!

Loving all this talk about slings! What are people's recommendations? I'm quite tempted by your ring slings Ninja- will show them to DH later. Although I haven't a clue about buggies, car seats etc, I've known from the word go that I'd be predominantly a sling person.

12 weeks today, hurrah! Slightly nervewracking though, in that I found out today my midwife's booked a consultant appointment for me, with regard to my back (I have a bulging disk), to check if things would be ok if I needed an epidural/spinal during labour. Eek. Not that I'm planning on having one, but you never know what might happen...

Also wanted to ask your advice on sleeping. I've not slept properly for a couple of weeks now, and last night was awake for about three hours - very unlike me. Anyone got any good sleeping tips? The lavendar spray I'd normally use says "consult your doctor if you are pregnant" (will ask the midwife), and I'm running out of ideas. I don't mind being zonked in the evening, but almost falling asleep in lessons isn't so good!

scarletfingernail · 01/11/2011 19:18

Dumbledore just seen your update. Fantastic news that everything has come back normal from the amnio. I bet relieved would be a massive understatement, and how lovely you're having a little girl. Brooking no argument here that the rest of your pregnancy is completely dull and uneventful and that you now relax and enjoy the rest of it.

Biscuits Sad sorry you're not well. I hope you're feeling better now though. Sickness is the one type of illness where I positively cannot cope, I turn into a hysterical mess. I'm emetophobic and puke freaks me out big time.

I never really got into wearing a sling. I do have the BabyBjorn one but it was hardly used. I might give that one a go again though.

dreamfeeder · 01/11/2011 19:21

musical same for me, I loved having dd on me. Borrowed a cheap Tomy sling- totally useless, used a babybjorn active for months (but couldn't have coped with the classic), but wish I'd discovered Ergo or Boba baby carriers earlier, really comfy though they are expensive. I used to put her in pram top in house to sleep- if she would (unusual!!) But she mostly only slept in slings in the day too. I was so into bf and baby-wearing!!! We didn't sort a bedroom for her before she was born. They're usually in with you for a bit at first anyway, so unless you're planning on decorating for them (we still haven't!) There's no rush.

scarletfingernail · 01/11/2011 19:23

musical I'm also having sleep problems. I'm averaging about 4 interrupted hours per night and it is really making me feel bad. I was exactly the same with having DS and I couldn't find anything to help. I'm desperate this time to get it sorted out as I know now how completely knackering labour and the newborn stage is and I don't want to be half zombified again before I even get that far. I'd also love to hear any advice.

musicalmrs · 01/11/2011 19:49

Dream, I'll look into the Babybjorn, thanks! I'm thinking I'll be very bf and baby-wearing too - but we'll see!

Room wise, I'm not too bothered - yes, they'll be in with us initially - but I think DH likes the idea of decorating a room! Of course it depends if we stay here (renting currently, will make an offer to buy in the new yr as we love it here, but if they're not interested we'll have to move), so his carpet argument is a little irrelevant. I think he just really wants to know - he's not a fan of surprises!

Scarlet, sorry to hear you're suffering too. I hope someone has some words of wisdom for us... I tried sleeping with a pillow to cuddle up with - I was much more comfortable and had three brilliant nights of sleep where I only woke up to go to the loo - but it's been a couple of weeks since then.

Biscuitsandtea · 01/11/2011 20:04

Evening all - still alive here, just about Sad. I think I'm on the mend maybe and have just tried a piece of toast so we'll see how that goes.

We have a baby bjorn active too and it was quite good. This time I might consider a sling too as I think that might be easier to get around with DS too iyswim, rather than having the pram all the time.

Can't remember everything else but thank you all for your sympathy today :)

NinjaChipmunk · 01/11/2011 20:39

musical and scarlet have you tried one of those big v shaped pregnancy pillow cushion things? Is it uncomfortableness that's waking you up? Not sure what else to suggest except I know I started waking up a lot earlier when pg with ds, I guess your hormones are so all over the place. Hopefully someone will have a solution for you both.

musical you could find out if there is a slingmeet in your local area to try some different slings out and see what suits you. I've not been to one but have heard good things about them.

So I went to the gp. She will send letter to the midwife led unit at the hospital and apparently I am unlikely to see anyone before the 12 week scan. However the notes she gave me do say that between 6-10 weeks should be a midwife appointment so will wait to see who gets in touch first. If no-one has been in touch within 3 weeks I need to get back in touch with the gp.

biscuits glad to hear you are on the mend.

dreamfeeder · 01/11/2011 20:40

Absolutely, I WILL find a way to carry twins together, I couldn't leave them in the pram in the playground while I was chasing dd round... I'd be paranoid about baby-snatchers!!!! Think I'll go for Boba rather than babybjorn as think its a bit comfier for mum and baby. I thought I would be musical, and i was! My biggest fear was not being able to bf.
we didn't find out the gender for dd, but i think we will for the twins-I'd find it so hard to have all those scans and never find out!!!!

Also suffering sleep wise but I definitely have no tips and i found it only got worse as by the end, it was getting up to wee, rib pain, hip pain, couldn't get comfy on my side, knew I shouldn't sleep on my back etc etc. I found comments like 'rest all you can before the baby comes!!' totally infuriating as it was impossible!!! For me anyway. And there were pillows galore involved... So i WILL also try anything. And any cure for a poor sleeping 13 month old welcome too! She is improving as she gets better though.

NinjaChipmunk · 01/11/2011 20:55

just for dream

NinjaChipmunk · 01/11/2011 21:00

and some more

Biscuitsandtea · 01/11/2011 21:05

Wow those twin carriers look wicked! (innit)

Guess what? Give up? I was just researching a sling meet near me and linked through to an ante natal yoga site only to find the lessons are at the school at the end of my road. I mean, literally 3 mins walk from my house!!!!

NinjaChipmunk · 01/11/2011 21:11

Grin that means you have no excuse!

NinjaChipmunk · 01/11/2011 21:12

thats some marvelous Leicester-speak you've come out with there by the way! You are in the midlands somewhere aren't you?

Biscuitsandtea · 01/11/2011 21:14

I am indeed in the Midlands! Intrigued by which bit is Leicester speak though? I don't hail from these parts you see (said in my best country bumpkin accent)....

Biscuitsandtea · 01/11/2011 21:15

Ah, the 'wicked' and 'innit' bit?

Yes, that's just a little joke DH and I have about being down with the kids Blush

Biscuitsandtea · 01/11/2011 21:17

In fact, so down with the kids are we, 'wicked' is often accompanied by an Ali G styleee click of the fingers. Bang on trend us!

NinjaChipmunk · 01/11/2011 21:17

yes! I lived in Loughborough for about 5 or 6 years and worked in Leicester. Innit was a very popular word round there.
