OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
addictediam · 27/10/2011 23:03

I did 4 weeks Christmas temp work during dd's test period and it didn't affect it, so I wouldn't think it would. But I'll be honest, I don't know on that one! I'm glad you found out, like I said I've never been good at explaining myself and probably just ended up confusing you more [hblush] sorry

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 27/10/2011 23:12

Yes, it was over xmas last year. Am going it doesn't complicate things too much, but will find out. Am v grateful you persevered arguing with me when I was so sure I was right lol

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 27/10/2011 23:35

Fuck me! Has anyone experienced round ligament pain? Did it feel like you were about to rip in half or blow a hernia or something? I just laughed whilst lying down and I swear to god that was the most painful and scary sensation... I just had to sit in bed with my knees pulled up for 10 mins til it eased off!

Moobee · 28/10/2011 03:13

Hi all, gosh, I've missed loads on here...

MrsA - welcome! I like the Higgs Boson contractions too - particularly as I work with CERN. :)

makescakes I'm not sure if what I've had is round ligament pain, but when I'm stretched out and cough it can be agony. I have to spend a while curled up till it goes. I've also started getting bad stitch or cramp when I'm walking. I've had to sit down mid journey a few times now.

Sorry for not replying to everything - will try and come back and reply when it's not the middle of the night. Poor husband has come down with a bad cold and he never gets ill. We've just been up making cups of tea and putting cold flannels on his hot forehead.

ParsleyLion1 · 28/10/2011 07:46

Blimey [hshock]. I go off to a hypnobirthing class and it takes me 15 mins to catch up with the thread!

Useful tips re birthing ball red and ghost. I shall wait until my stuff comes out of storage Sat week and see if I can pump my "Davina" ball (admittedly from Argos) up enough to do the job before I buy another one.

moobee I'm getting those stitch pains as well - any time I have to walk for more than about 10 mins. I seem to end up propping up the bump half way across London Bridge every day. Also getting intermittent round ligament pain if I turn over too fast in bed. Or anything that throws the bump out of whack.

Can't wait now for kitchen to be finished- I want to make some CAKE!! Blush

redheadbedhead · 28/10/2011 08:47

Hey ladies! and welcome mrsamerican!

addicted I've PM'd you for maternity pay advice, sorry! Hope that's ok! We'll have to start paying you for your time Smile

moobee you work with CERN?????? oh my goodness my husband would be so jealous. He is doing a physics degree and I think CERN would be his ideal ultimate destination. I think it's mad how many husbands and people on this thread are working or studying in physics. Is that 4 or 5 now? We ALSO loved the Higgs-Boson contractions and call them that now - fish you've really started something there!!

and moobee and parsley I also get those pains, were much worse in first trimester weirdly, but still when I cough or sneeze in a funny position I get a massive pain in the right belly.

speaking of bellies..I am currently sitting on my birthing ball and it kind of hurts my belly muscles a bit, but I guess this is good for me right...? core strength and all that...? eeek

parsley I also cannot wait to make cake, but am also not allowed because I am needed helping paint the flat this week. you guys have inspired me to try a christmas cake, will ask my mum for her incredible recipe and pass it on if anyone wants it (very juicy and moist and rich) MMMMMMMM CHRISTMAS CAKE!!!!!! There is NOTHING finer on a dark winter day than sitting by a fire with a cup of tea and a slice of xmas cake. Oh my goodness.

fryn hows the bairn, any reassuring kicking started up since you posted? hope so x

Moobee · 28/10/2011 09:27

parsley I'm so looking forward to our kitchen being finished too - life in a sea of boxes is nearly over! We're going to celebrate by having our bathroom ripped out. Hmmm.

redhead yes, my husband and I are both physicists, although we don't directly do science anymore. There does seem to be a lot of physics people here. CERN is an amazing place to work with - that was why I was really hoping I got my job! I'm also the only person in the country doing what I do so it would have been hard to replace. I get to visit every couple of months usually (obviously not now). It's great!

ghosteditor · 28/10/2011 09:27

Hey ladies, posting from bed as I have a day off. So happy Grin!

I too have had the screaming round ligament pain of death but fortunately only intermittently. Ouch! I also really dribbled with the weight of the bump when on my feet a lot a couple of weeks ago. Cakes had recommended the JojoMaman wrap tops - if you get the wrap tie right they really support the bump. You can buy those belts too.

Another poster with a husband with a physics degree! Alas I'm pretty hopeless myself, very much an arts-brain here.

ghosteditor · 28/10/2011 09:29

Bloomin' phone! struggled not dribbled Grin

Moobee · 28/10/2011 09:33

I read that several times trying to figure out what it meant ghost Grin

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 28/10/2011 09:45

OMG - brain ache.

Just completed my claim for Maternity Allowance and I swear it has taken me nearly two hours On the plus side, after ringing four spearate govt departments with various queries I am now a minor expert on the form! If only I could remember what date I registered as self-employed from... Blush I now can't send my form off until I get a letter from the self assessment people confirming what I put down. I'm such a muppet. Still, it's annoying they can't just confirm it on the phone.

ParsleyLion1 · 28/10/2011 09:46

moobee I have two words for you "glutton" and "punishment". I don't think I could contemplate anything else right now. Or nothing else major anyway, I'm so over building work[hhmm] still I suppose no bathroom before baby is better than no bathroom afterwards.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 28/10/2011 09:48

I preferred 'dribbled' I think

I too tie my wrap top really tight to give bump a little extra support, well I did when I was using the carrimore bump band. Now I have the tubular bandage of sexiness from my physio...

So glad others are getting these searing pains - I really thought I had done some permanent damage to my insides last night!

greenlady78 · 28/10/2011 09:50

Thanks makescakes and addicted I ended up having a look at Maternity Allowance (self-employed over here) and I think I might qualify for it!!!! I would have never thought about it before and thanks to you guys I found out about it!

They are sending me a package and I should get it next week so can read through it and get it sorted! Smile

Lovely sunny day, I have a funeral to go... kind of sad but very fitting as the the man was a true legend!

Hope everyone is ok!!!!! Hugs!

addictediam · 28/10/2011 09:53

Makescakes now you know why I'm an expert on the subject [hgrin] its not easy is it! Still worth it once its done.

Moobee bathroom!! [hshock] atleast it will be finished in time for baby's arrival

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 28/10/2011 09:54

No worries greenlady - if addicted hadn't argued so determinedly I wouldn't have realised I was entitled to the full amount, so it was a useful debate all round!

If you don't want to wait for the package you can download the whole thing here like I did and fill it out today - I will even offer online advice on all parts! lol

Sorry about your funeral - I hope it's cathartic
x

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 28/10/2011 09:55

addicted - not bloody wrong.

And their phrasing on the directgov website is downright misleading!

greenlady78 · 28/10/2011 10:05

makes thanks!!!! I might take up on your offer! :) will have a go at filling it out and get back to you Grin

redheadbedhead · 28/10/2011 10:10

oh god we spent hours painting the lounge yesterday with a friend.... and all the paint has CRACKED ShockShockShock

OH is in despair. looks like we may have to take it all off and start again!!!!!!! Jesus Christ!

ParsleyLion1 · 28/10/2011 10:26

red ouch! Was it new plaster or damp?

Mine did that on the kitchen ceiling but it's because the bath seal is leaking.

Fryn · 28/10/2011 10:35

red nooooo - I've never heard of that before. The paint in our bathroom sort of slid off the wall, but that's because DH is a pillock and painted it just after having a shower, but cracking is a new one by me. Hope it miraculously glues itself back together.

I have to say, listening to all the confusion over MA etc makes me weirdly grateful to be a full time employee - at least they can just sort that all out for me, and I can just ask (im)pertinent questions. Hope it all works out ladies and you get what you're due.

G2 still a bit quiet, more nudging than kicking, but I'm presuming that's better than nothing. Just had to dose up on the co-codamol again as my sinuses feel as though someone's banging them with a hammer. And seriously, where does all the snot come from??

Oeisha · 28/10/2011 10:41

I can join the pain on suden movement gang too - please let me in!
For a few weeks now I've been 'bracing' myself [knees slightly bent, slighlty bent over spine] when I sneeze and not because I think I might wee! I also get a sore bump if I'm walking about sometimes. Doesn't seem to happen at work mind you Confused. Same thing happens if I try to get up too quickly sometimes....
It certainly hurts like feck and makes me wince and sit down. Was told it was ligament pain being aggrivated by IBS, hense why some days I'm fine, others I'm not...

Mum2be79 · 28/10/2011 11:01

Okay, what is CERN? Confused My DH has a chemistry degree and work in a very large power station, so is rather sciency. Me ... I have a biology degree. A waste of time because I don't use what i learnt (and dare I say it, have forgotten what I learnt! Blush )

round ligament pain I think I may be having it. It wakes me up though and I am in absolute agony as I try to turn over.

maternity pay I know that I get 2 weeks full pay, 4 weeks at 90%, 12 weeks at SMP AND 50% of salary then the final 21 weeks (or so) at just SMP. I thought teachers all got the same but it depends on which authority you work for apparently - so I found on another thread a few weeks ago. I think Fulham pay their teachers 12 weeks full pay before going onto SMP. I haven't done my maths so i don't know if that is better or not.

Peanut is now being referred to as The Octopus on my FB page. It certainly feels like I have one as getting jabbed, kicked, punched from all over at the same time!?!

I thought I'd let you all know that I am being utterly lazy today. i am still in my PJs although I have 4 loads of washing to do (before hubby gets in and finds washer on!), photo driving licence to renew, inhalers to pick up from pharmacy, cat food to get and sauce for our stir fry noodles tonight - yummy!

On the subject of cats - anyone got one? I've been trying (unsuccessfully) for three weeks to change from Whiskers to Iams (cheaper). However cat doesn't like it and will whine and paw at us constantly to be fed. Also, stupid thing won't drink water from his own bowls (plastic or ceramic) and we have to get him a 'human' glass to drink from and place on the floor. Whenever myself or DH goes to get a drink for ourself or both of us, we have to bring him a glass of water too or he poaches ours! He's also being very clingy - which is making me wonder how he'll cope when baby arrives. He always tries to sit on my tummy and pad his paws.

ghosteditor · 28/10/2011 11:09

mum2be you're getting a pretty good deal; my company us American and was v shocked about UK maternity law so I'm not getting a penny above the legal minimum. Still, shouldn't complain, I have an excellent pension and good healthcare.

I have 2 felines, but only one really lives at home now - long, evil neighbour story. Ours are on science plan which is what vets recommend, and is cheaper than whiskers. Persevere with the biscuits though - yours will eat if he's hungry and if you're not giving in with something else. The water thing is weird though! Maybe he can't see the water in the bowl? I've heard that's common. You could try adding a tiny splash of milk to colour the water?

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 28/10/2011 11:14

My mum's cat is just fussy and likes fresh water and in a glass. Some cats are just pickier than others.

have you tried introducing the food gradually (mixing the wet with dry and changing the ratio as time goes) or adding water to the biscuits to make them soft? Maybe he has a sore tooth or something and doesn't like to crunch?

Mine are ravenous devils who eat everything (including toast crusts and peas...) so this isn;t really an issue I have to deal with, but my mum has had some picky buggers in the past!
