Betwee 8 and 12 weeks to go...and we're giving it all we've got!

Hey all, it seems we are all suffering from lack of sleep. In spite of being exhausted and sleeping badly, woke up at 5.20am and could not get back to sleep again. GRRR. So tired now and battling to finish this chapter :(

msbuggywinkle · 28/10/2011 15:03

Realised how ranty that sounds! The reason is that DP gets practically given medals for night time parenting or people tell me I'm cruel for making him get up at night (there is no force involved!) so I have a bee in my bonnet about it!

ZombiesAteMySorelip · 28/10/2011 15:17

TFI Friday! Not that it makes any difference what day of the week it is for my lazy arse. I had an awful night, with some rather painful BHs and being able to feel baby's head moving around far down below. Was getting a bit worried, but they stopped. I have been getting some sharp achey pain in my cervix as well. Is this my cervix getting ready?

mopsytop · 28/10/2011 15:32

DarciesmumandBump2 last posted on 12 Oct - that's 2 weeks ago - hope she's okay.

Mmmmcheese · 28/10/2011 16:11

The problem I have is that DH is rubbish without a good night's sleep, he literally can't talk, function, get any work done or do anything useful and if he's tired we always end up arguing as I get really annoyed with him and he says insensitive things without meaning to. So I pretty much do all the night stuff while he sleeps in the spare room. Then at least he is useful during the day/evening and can give me a break. I think he's also dangerous handling a baby at night as he can suddenly fall asleep in seconds and I worry that he will do so while winding the baby or something. Different things work for different people - no-one should be judging!

msbuggy I find it really annoying how congratulatory people are when DH changes a nappy or gives DS his lunch or something and seem to suggest that I'm lucky or even lazy that he's doing it and not me. No-one ever congratulates mums for changing nappies!

sevensevenseven · 28/10/2011 18:10

msbuggy it didn't sound ranty at all to me, I was only asking because I get terrible mood swings when I'm knackered. Am I right to assume it's your PIL's that think you're cruel? (no offence if not, I'm assuming based on some of the other things you've said about them).

mmmcheese I agree completely. I know I'm the one that has to be pregnant and give birth, but it took both me and DH to make this baby. Once she's here he's equally responsible.

I also think it takes much more than doing some of the night-time stuff and nappy changes to be a good dad. My sisters DP was great at getting up at night to help when their DD was tiny, but he spends his weekends playing golf or out with his rugby mates rather than spending time with her. Even on the day they came home from hospital he picked them up then cleared off to golf. It was like someone had told him a great dad gets up in the night and he thought that was enough.

Earwigwam · 28/10/2011 20:06

MrsBuggy - can I ask if you have a time frame in mind for your DH helping at night? I have a vague memory of night feeds getting easier and not involving nappy changes/settling after a while but can't remember how long it took.

I know it was difficult for my DH to share night time duties once back at work, he has 2 or 3 days a week up at 5am and needs his wits about him at work. He used to do more at the weekends, especially once we introduced bottles so I could recover from the weeknights.

msbuggywinkle · 28/10/2011 20:57

seven principally the PIL yes, but also sometimes from other Mums.

earwig depends on the baby really! It was months with DD1 because she was crap at sleeping, probably only about 8 weeks with DD2 who was great.

Having pizza for tea now, I've had a crappy day and DP's boss gave him a fifty pound bonus for being a superstar!

BeeMyBaby · 28/10/2011 21:42

seven I agree its more than the nighttime stuff, DH didn't really do any of the nappy changes etc or night time shifts, apart from when I was crying because she wouldn't sleep, but he is now really excellent with her, and even though he is the only one speaking to her in Berber, she can say alot more than in English. A neighbour said that children pick up language through play, so it just shows how much he plays with her. Therefore I don'y (or try not to) begrudge him for the lack of night nappy changing at the start.

Can no longer be bothered with work, my replacement will have my desk from next week and I will need to hotdesk, so hoping baby will come soonish so that I don't have a whole month of being deskless.

figgygal · 28/10/2011 22:34

Blimey the baby is being very active tonight lots of big movements and thumpings. It still feels all very alien but very reassuring that he's ok in there. I'm ready to have my body back now (apart from the hopeful breastfeeding) though as am sure a lot of us are.

BluebellsintheSpring · 28/10/2011 23:01

I'm another one for randomly banging bump into doors etc - it's like I haven't quite absorbed how big tummy is and keep trying to squeeze through ridiculously small spaces.

Got through 2nd stage of interview process the other day so now I'm down to the last 3. Principal/Vice Principals aren't appointed by the school here - so have to wait for the Education Board to sort final dates for last round. The earliest will be mid November and it could be as late as 1st Dec! (EDD 3rd Dec). So just feel like it's out of my hands - what will be, will be.

Sorry to hear so many of us suffering from sleepless nights. Here's hoping for a good night's sleep for all!

LittleMissFlustered · 29/10/2011 00:42

Trying to get to sleep and failing because of evil nauseousness:( Hoping its just a passing fad and not the start of a stretch of it.

Hope everyone else is snoozing well and that your weekends are marvellous:)

Cherrypi · 29/10/2011 08:19

I have that problem too bluebell. Had to repark the car the other day as I couldn't get out.

Have noticed if the baby's bum is on the left my muscles hurt and I struggle walking, bum on the right I'm fine. Luckily today is a bum on the right day as I have 20 guests coming over for my baby shower.

sevensevenseven · 29/10/2011 08:52

Hope everyone had a good nights sleep. I slept fine but have woken up just as exhausted. Is anyone else getting fed up of being pregnant now? Obviously I don't want her to arrive just yet but the last few weeks are just so tiring and uncomfortable, can't wait to have her in my arms instead.

Enjoy your baby shower cherry.

Anyone have any nice plans for today? My only plan is to make a cottage pie but I'm even struggling with the motivation to do that.

sevensevenseven · 29/10/2011 08:54

Sorry that post wasn't meant to be quite so depressing!

LittleMissFlustered · 29/10/2011 09:47

I plan to vacuum and clean. High octane stuff:)

Don't forget to SQUEEZE!

mopsytop · 29/10/2011 12:53

Ordered and paid for car seat. Now going to make maternity bag list and go and buy the lot plus a cot and everything else I need. Yes. I am going to be organised by the end of today!

ZombiesAteMySorelip · 29/10/2011 13:35

Go mopsy! Don't knacker yourself out too much though.

Seven being pregnant is getting a bit old now, but I've been off work for ages now, and I knew I'd get bored eventually. I'm going to spend today planning things to do each day so that I don't get too bored. Today, I plan to make some moses basket sheets, do as much washing as is humanly possible, and listen to the natal hypnotherapy disc.

Sooo, last night I noticed a tiny amount of what I think was blood on the tissue when going to the loo. It was such a minute amount, that I wasn't sure if I was really seeing it, and showed it to my mum. She confirmed that there was something there. There was no mucus. Does anyone know what it could be? My first thought was mucus plug, but since there was no mucus...

OiMissus · 29/10/2011 14:11

Afternoon all, went for a curry with the PILs last night and managed to stay up til 11. Knackered today. Was planning a BD shopping trip and sushi, but feel a bit sick and am more content lying on the sofa. This is no good! Need motivation!
He he he cherry, am regularly having to repark the car so I can get out!
Ohh DH says he's going to bake me a cake. I shall therefore be content and slovenly and wait patiently on the sofa to lick spoons with unctious gorgeous goo with raw eggs in. In between bouts of acid refux brought on by eating 6 white mice earlier. [hgrin]
sorelip tiny bit of blood...was it definitely from the front and not an infiltrator from behind and the bearer of the onset of haemmeroids? (I'm obsessed!) I hope not! If it was a very tiny amount, I wouldn't worry, but keep a very close eye on what happens next. Vaginal bleeds are very common in pg, but should be checked out.

ZombiesAteMySorelip · 29/10/2011 14:33

OiMissus it did occur to me that it might be, so I wiped both the front and back again several times. No more blood. Curry...hmmmmm.

figgygal · 29/10/2011 14:50

Well DH was out last night and has managed to poison himself with a discounted sandwich at the 24 hour shop while waiting for bus home. All day out and nice walk plans gone up in smoke as he can't be away from the loo .........how inconsiderate Grin

Have taken opportunity to do hospital bag and stuff face with pick and mix I got at the local shop. My sweet tooth is outrageous at the moment any jelly sweets need to beware. Am watching grease 2 at the moment as he's gone back to bed feeling sorry for himself. It is a massive guilty pleasure I love the songs in it actually more than the original.

Cheeptrickortreat · 29/10/2011 15:08

Afternoon everyone,

Sorelip - its not unusuall for there to be some blood from the cervix at this time, just keep and eye on it and tell your mw at the next appointment. If there is more i would call the delievery ward and get it checked out.

So today i have tripple checked hospital bag and spent the morning sourceing the last bits of baby stuff i want/need. I have desided on the mosses basket and the travel system. I have found some orgainic wrap body suits that dont go over babys head - last time i had forceps and was scared of putting the body vest over his head so these are great for the first 2 weeks or so.

I just need to put the clothes away, empty cot of cluther Blush and fix car seat base in car. I need to get more maternity pads and sort out the lavander soaked gaurs/banage to go in the frezzer - if you have stitches the cold and lavander really help with the pain and healing Blush.

I still havent listened to the hypno cd!

Also my bad mother ward today goes for me letting son fall asleep on armchair listening to the bon jovi cd Blush

Tonight we have GP coming over to help carve the pumpkin and for a cuppa and some cake and if we have any treat or treaters son can give out the sweets.

My cold is better but i still feel crap and tired, i hope i get more energy before i go into labour.

LittleMissFlustered · 29/10/2011 15:26

I'm skiving, shhhh![hwink]

sevensevenseven · 29/10/2011 16:02

mopsy sounds very expensive getting it all in one go. Hope you managed it though!

I'm pleased to report I found some energy. Cottage pie made, birth plan typed and printed and DS helped put up the last of the stickers in the nursery. My left hip is killing after sitting forward on the sofa using the laptop rather than sittingat the table though.

mopsytop · 29/10/2011 17:58

Well got car seat, cot, mattress, cot sheets, all maternity bag stuff include nightie/PJs/dark towel (!) from Primark, breast pads, maternity pads, disposable nappies (for first weeks but want to use non-disposables after), sudocreme, baby towels, foam bath support thingy that friend has and says is fab, changing mat, changing bag, some babygros, snowsuit. Can't remember what else but I now feel much more prepared! It was expensive eek but I was pretty cheapskate on the whole aside from the important stuff e.g. bought cheapest cot but a good mattress, and a good car seat but didn't go mad on the clothes or anything. Very very relieved now, don't have to shop again. So tired! Going to now go and have cup of tea and relax, then making yummy beef and guinness stew for dinner.
