Oooooh penguin do you hunk something is happening?

BB3 · 11/10/2011 04:16

Think not hunk!!!

PenguinArmy · 11/10/2011 04:19

I think so Grin

it's odd though, I woke up about an hour and they've been less than every 5 mins, but not long lasting or very intense. How will I know when to ring

BB3 · 11/10/2011 05:02

I think when they get to either 2-3 minutes apart or when pain intensifies xXx

BB3 · 11/10/2011 05:49

Are they getting stronger?

PenguinArmy · 11/10/2011 05:53

oh yep I had 20 mins of every 2-3 mins but it's gone back to 5 mins but more intense

I can't believe how different it is to last time, no show or waters still

BB3 · 11/10/2011 06:02

I didn't have show or waters with ds my waters broke while I was in labour ward after being hooked up to the drip thing x

Different in what way? Contraction wise?

PenguinArmy · 11/10/2011 06:06

yeah, pain's in a completely different place

LittlePebble · 11/10/2011 06:29

Ooh Penguin good luck! Hope all goes ok x
Wobbles any news?
mpops great birth story sounds amazing with so little intervention. BF sounds so hard I think I'm more nervous about that than the birth. Hope BB3's suggestions help.
Sassy definitely wait a day I think x
happymummytobe glad you're ok was wondering where you'd gone Wink

40+2 today and no signs of anything from this little one but I'm quietly happy at mo I'm still mobile and apart from pelvis and back pain am feeling great so will just wait until its decided its ready to meet everyone Smile

BB3 · 11/10/2011 08:51

Ooh also Mpops for some reason Edith-may hates dry nipples so she needs me to squeeze a bit of milk out first and rub on my nipple before she latches on - they aren't half demanding these babies hey?!!

penguin how's it going?

sassy34264 · 11/10/2011 09:15

mpops lovely birth story. congrats. i breast fed dd1 but the pain was horrendous as i wasnt doing it properly. at the hospital with the twins, they had poor suction being prem and all the midwives did was help me latch them on. it was a community midwive who finally showed me how its supposed to be done. i'll see if i can explain it.

you need to hold the baby's head with one hand (if left breast, left hand) and get hold of your breast with your right hand. place your nipple so that the round front flat bit is touching the skin bridge between their nostrils. then as they open their mouth, slide your nipple into their mouth. but without moving the breast that is touching their lower lip. this should stay still so that they will be wide enough. hope this helps.

im not having the sweep, but cant just have it the day after. not only do i not have a dp doing the week, i have no car and two one year old twins and im over 8 months pregnant. i also live in a different town/county now than when i had twins but im having this baby at the same hospital (better the devil you know). it is 2 buses or trains there and back. i cant make it. tried 6 weeks ago and my back was agony. i was crawling on the carpet at one point to get to the babies. because dp is away with the car, my mum has had to take a day off work the last two times to take me and she also has to look after the twins. they get very bored and upset after being in a hospital for over an hour/sometimes 2- just sat in a pram. plus it has had to be wed everytime cos that is the diabetic clinic's only day. i will try to get it done a week this fri though and get dp to take the day off.

thinking about you wobbles

sassy34264 · 11/10/2011 09:21

Sounds exciting penguin! Very promising!

I used Lilypadz with DD1 (love writing that now I have a DD2 as well Grin) and they did work well in terms of being easy to use and less faff than carrying endless disposable ones with me BUT they didn't stop me leaking entirely so I would leak behind the pad and it would all run down my front when I took them off. There's a knack to catching it with a muslin and without it spraying everywhere! Didn't use them with DS as I had oversupply so I wasn't sure how much use they would be. Probably best when your supply is settled.

scones I agree with penguin - you can have a back to back labour at home. DD1 was posterior and I had her at home with G&A and tens machine. I am also a total wimp but staying at home without the extra pain relief was preferable for me.

After some hardcore feeding sessions, I can now feed pain-free from the left boob but we have some way to go on the right.

pinkpainter · 11/10/2011 09:37

Hi all of you in labour - can't wait to hear the news!
Mpops - Thanks for the birth story - sounds like you did brilliantly! - In terms of BF how about ringing the NCT breast feeding line - you don't need to be a member to use this service - the NCT Helpline number is 0300 330 0700 and they can put you in touch with a BF counsellor. I had major problems BFing my DD - it was more painful than the birth due to cracked nipples and bad attachment, but lots of perserverence and one-to-one help from the BF counsellor and in the end I fed her for a year - I know I definitely wouldn't have managed it without all the support. Everyone kept saying that once I got to 2 weeks it would all be fine and it was, nipples had recovered, and it all felt very comfortable at that stage. Like BB3 said though - if it doesn't work for you don't worry - there are lots of benefits of bottle feeding too!
38+5 and still thinking it could be any day for me and it could be any time. Still getting loads of BH, shooting sensations and some mild period pains low down too. Just so excited - come on baby, I'm ready now, you can come out!!

BabCNesbitt · 11/10/2011 10:46

Hi all - just been slowly catching up on the last few days of news - congratulations to all those with new babies! And sending good luck and good labour thoughts to all of you having early signs!

Went in for my ECV yesterday - the registrar wasn't positive at first (baby seemed firmly lodged in place), and there was no luck on the first attempt. However, they gave me another shot of terbutaline and the second (bloody sore!) attempt worked! Which meant yay, home birth possible! And for the first time ever, I felt kicking above my navel :) But all the movements I felt overnight were back in the usual position, and this morning, what I'm sure is her head feels like it's right back in the middle of my ribs, in its usual spot :( So off to the MAU again today, just to find out if she has shifted back or if I'm just being paranoid... 38 weeks today

Mimatchin · 11/10/2011 13:15

Mpops what a beautiful birth-hope breastfeeding will be ok soon and congratulations!

Penguin-Wobbles good luck!

BB3 I'll keep a note on your breastfeeding suggestions thanks!

Little Pebble Glad to hear that you are coping better with the wait.

I've got an appointment with MW this morning and she's still super pushy and nearly insisted to do the sweep. I said no I am only 40+1 baby is fine she will come when she is ready.

I'll start thinking about arranging the next appointment with another MW Angry

Good luck everyone Smile

seasaltbaby · 11/10/2011 14:57

oooh penguin this sounds exciting! and good luck to wobbles too!! Whats happened to awen too-are you having your baby??!!

thanks for the birth story mpops as a first timer I find these so helpful to read, if a little daunting....

had my 38 week mw appointment today-scones I am with you, unfortunately my baby is posterior :( the mw was quite reassuring about it, but now I'm back home I'm worrying about it more. Does this usually mean a much more difficult labour? What can I do to help get bubba into right place? she suggested scrubbing the floor-er no thanks!! is it more that the all fours position is good? any other tips??

mw also asked if I wanted a stretch & sweep at my next appointment at 40 weeks, said no too, & she then agreed that in her experience they are not that helpful at that stage! but she has to offer anyway...

started on the raspberry leaf tea today too-might be a bit late but worth a try!

MamaMaiasaura · 11/10/2011 15:03

Saw midwife today all good. 38+3 head right down and still measuring 41 weeks. She did internal and stretch and sweep. Didn't hurt at all and she could feel baby's head. No idea if it will progress things or not.

Mimatchin · 11/10/2011 15:58

I've been reading a blog about Going Overdue

injennuous.blogspot.com/2006/05/going-overdue.html and here is an extract:

"One word on how labor begins: The baby's lungs are the last organs to complete their development. Once they are mature, they release a protein, and that protein causes the release of other hormones that initiate labor. If you haven't gone into labor yet, it may be because your baby's lungs are not yet entirely ready. Hang in there. You will go into labor."

This is making me thinking more than twice before anykind of induction...

bilblio · 11/10/2011 16:23

mpops fantastic birth story, good luck with the breastfeeding. I second the NCT or La Leche League helpline, I know lots of people who've had fantastic support from them. I didn't need them with DD, she knew what she was doing... I didn't, but she did. :) Also the breastfeeding groups are great, ours have either midwives or trained peer supporters.
Also have you tried feeding before she gets hungry, then she might not be as excitable.

seasalt yes it's the all four position that's best, swimming is good or leaning over a birthing ball and rocking back & forth.

scones My Mum delivered me back-to-back with just G&A, so it can be done.

Babs glad to hear LO moved, hope it's stayed moved too.

I saw MW today 38+1 appointment. LO is 3/5 engaged so I might not have to wait 2 weeks. :) I've been getting a lot of period type pains, don't think they're contractions though. I've another appointment booked for 40+1 and she said she'll do a sweep then if I want. She's not pushy, but I'll probably have it done... if I need it. I've been in pain with SPD for over 4 months now and I'm looking forward to getting my body back and being able to do things like pick up DD and give her a huge hug.... or walk without pain!

pinkpainter · 11/10/2011 17:08

Will catch up with the previous posts in a min, so sorry for no personal messages right now....but just wanted to tell you - just been for my 38 week check (due in 9 days) and not the good news I was hoping for :(.
There were 2 midwifes there today and they both felt my bump and thought there was a possibility the baby could be breach. Feeling really panicky and upset now - up until now I have had a perfect pregnancy and sort of stupidly took it for granted that I would have a lovely birth like last time, and was even hoping for a water birth. At my last MW app everything was absolutely fine and head was down and 1/5 engaged, so I assumed due to all my twinges I would just be told that the head was further down and all good to go and that the baby would be here soon.
Got to go for an scan on Thursday and then if baby is breach I will need to decide if I want the baby to be turned or have a c section, it will be urgent after that as my due date is so near they won't want me to go into labour naturally. Maybe I am just being silly and emotional about all this - the baby is fine, it's only how I give birth - just really wasn't expecting this so it's all just a bit of a shock.

BB3 · 11/10/2011 17:09

Fleecy snap with the snappiness, DH and I are at each other a lot - especially at 2 in the morning when I am trying to get him to wake up and help me with the twins and DS and he is like a bloody zombie complaining that he has to work! (seriously this time last week he was saying about how going back to work was going to be a nice break for him!!!)

penguin, wobbles hope all is going well.

BabyC any news on whether Lo has stayed put?

With DS my induction hurt like hell (I went straight onto the drip), but I'd do it again in a second if it meant I didn't have to wait any more for him to come - I hated being overdue. HATED IT, and actually it wasn't that bad, it was just a bit fast really and none of the pain meds worked. So would have been that painful regardless of whether I was induced or not I think. xx

Hope everyone is ok - we are having a lazy day at home ad it's very much needed!

BB3 · 11/10/2011 17:12

Oh pink it must be very frustrating at such a late stage so of course you are upset - however it's not 100% LO might just be in an awkward position and fooling the mw's - fingers crossed by Thurs either lo is where they belong xxx

BB3 · 11/10/2011 17:33

Lo, not either lo!!
