Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
EdwardorEricCantDecide · 04/10/2011 07:20

Wow sorry all for mammoth post!

pinkpainter · 04/10/2011 08:27

Congratulations sound - love your name choice and sounds like you had a brilliant birth with just the tens!! :)

Edward - Yes, know exactly what you mean!! - Exhausted but going to take the opportunity this morning while DD is at preschool to do loads of tidying and cleaning - MIL will be staying while baby arrives so want it to be tidy when she gets here!!

37+5

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 04/10/2011 08:34

Haha I'm trying to stay on top of mine as MIL will be staying when I go into labour! Wonder if all the MILs know the fuss they cause Grin I suspect I'll still end up having to do it when I go into labour, if she comes when the house is a mess we'll never hearth end of it!

pinkpainter · 04/10/2011 09:40

Yes, I imagine I'll be scrabbling around tidying things away mid contractions....:o

SconesForTea · 04/10/2011 09:45

Shock at tidying the house for your MIL - or doing the housework at all, actually... My main task for today is to find myself a cleaner for the next few months. I've told DH that cooking and washing will be his responsibility, but I certainly don't trust him with the cleaning Hmm

Many congratulations to all the new babies! They are really arriving quickly now! Hope all the new mums and babies are enjoying getting used to each other.

A quick word on induction, whether because you're overdue or your waters have gone - the Trust may have a policy, but in the end it is your body, your baby and your choice. You do not "have" to go in for an induction at any time. Of course it is proably sensible if your waters have broken, and days later you're still not in labour, to go in. But you don't "have" to! Likewise if you are 10, 12, 14 or more days over you don't "have" to be induced. In my family babies routinely arrive at 40+14, 40+17 or even (one of my aunts) something crazy like 40+21 Shock so I am certainly not going to be bullied into an induction before my LO is ready to come out. A term baby is born any time between 37 and 42w, so you are not even 'overdue' until 40+15 anyway. And most people won't make it to then (thankfully).

Rant over Grin

With everyone on the lack of sleep, although last night was a lot better Also still gaining weight at 1-2lb a week even though it is meant to slow down at this stage - perhaps that is based on people who don't eat a whole packet of biscuits in one sitting though Blush (if you can't when you're heavily pg when on earth can you?)

New liner for birthing pool should arrive today, so baby is welcome any time Smile Although I still haven't written birth plan, packed bag, got baby stuff down from loft etc.....

Scones you really need to do the things on your list Misses Chilled Out! :)

Okay I have two questions, one of which is a bit yacky so sorry.

  1. Before I went on Maternity Leave my day would consist of getting up at 6am, dog walking, going to work, dog walking, gym/swim, dog walking, bed (with eating in between). Since I started ML on Friday my days have consisted of getting up at 6.30am to see DH off to work (even though he keeps telling me to stay in bed), 7am dog walking, breakfast, sleep for an hour, eat, sleep again, dog walk. I am knackered since being on ML. Plus I don't have any children yet, did anyone else feel like this when they finished work?
  1. Was sleeping just now but then felt a "trickle" down my leg, stood up and about 10 drips went on the carpet (nice), went to the bathroom and dripped along the way there, then just had a wee. I have wipped it up but there was nothing in the toilet so do you just think I have a pathetic bladder and it was wee or a trickle of waters breaking ?

Going to try and get my act together to clean the kitchen now, feel very lazy.

CheshireDing · 04/10/2011 10:36

There has been more trickling\dripping now, thankfully on the bathroom tiles not the carpet this time Grin.

It's clear though so am still wondering if I have the bladder of a knat!

Have put a sanitary pad on to see what happens. Could this be the beginning, I feel excited :)

TallyBear · 04/10/2011 10:46

Cheshire I'd phone your mw just in case - it could be waters breaking. Let us know.....

Also, yes - I too feel knackered on ml. At least the weather is cooling down - although I wanted to put more washing out and now it's raining!

Congratulations Sound..

Well done with all of you keeping up with the housework - I haven't gone in for nesting yet. Did the hoovering yesterday and it almost killed me! Aren't M/MILs supposed to help with the cleaning at a time like this?

Roseflower · 04/10/2011 10:47

Ohhh sounds like waters breaking! Exciting!
Can you smell it- the waters have a sweet smell so Im told

mpops · 04/10/2011 10:49

Cheshire, sounds like you might be on your way! Good luck!

Sound, congratulations. Lovely news and lovely name for the little girl!

Hope everyone is settling in well in the new life. My parents have arrived and staying with us for, well, god knows (no return ticket!), but there is no sign of baby yet. Due date is tomorrow! I've been quite cool for a couple of weeks but now I'm starting to get all anxious and nervous.

Molybdenum · 04/10/2011 10:59

So exciting to read everyone's updates - congratulations to all those with new arrivals. It's all seeming real now!

CheshireDing it does sound to me like things are starting for you; how exciting!

For those who were asking about placenta consumption: have a look here www.placentanetwork.com/remedies/Placenta-Encapsulation.asp
I've always been keen on the idea of eating the placenta, but I don't think I could do it in practice. Humans always used to in ancient times, and in fact we are now the only mammal which doesn't eat our own placentas. I think this is a pretty fair indication that nature intends new mothers to benefit from replacing some of the nutrition they've just spent months pouring into their offspring. Recent research suggests consuming the placenta helps to raise post partum haemoglobin more quickly, aids in milk production and reduces the risk of post natal depression. I'm having mine made into capsules as I think that will be easier - have a look at the link above.

Am 40+8 today and no sign of anything happening. The midwife offered me a sweep yesterday, which I declined. I want this baby to come when the time is right for the pregnancy to come to a natural conclusion. Luckily my midwives are incredibly supportive, and as long as all continues to go well they are happy to remain hands off and to support me in my home birth. Apparently they recently attended a homebirth for woman who was 40+19 and perfectly healthy. Scones I agree with your approach entirely: people have been asking me how long 'they' 'allow' you to 'go over'. I find it so sad that we place all responsibility for our health in the hands of others. However, I also acknowledge that I am very lucky to have the medical knowledge and experience I have, which helps me to stay assertive and confident in what I want for this pregnancy and birth.

Good luck to everyone still to pop!

Whoops, sorry - clickable now.

BB3 · 04/10/2011 12:13

Cheshire sounds like waters to me! I had slow leaking waters with ds no gush as such just constant drips! Worth letting your labour ward / midwife know so they're prepared when you go in to labour cx how exciting these babies are in a hurry to get out now hey!!

Where's sassy? Are you off having your baby?

pinkpainter · 04/10/2011 12:36

cheshire - yep - I'd say waters too - oooh - how exciting!! Goood luck!!

PenguinArmy · 04/10/2011 13:24

I would recommend a good travel cup for keeping tea and coffee hot. Mine is a contigo one and is completely non spill. I chucked it in my bag for work and never had a problem with it. Just remembered how rare it was to eat hot toast and often would reheat my coffee three times in a day before I got round to drinking it.

PenguinArmy · 04/10/2011 13:26

This is the one I have although it was cheaper in the US. Need a small bottle brush to clean the seal bit sometimes, but still worth it IMO

mpops · 04/10/2011 13:56

Hmm, could someone please help me? I don't know if I'm just having a "wishful thinking" moment or if anything is actually happening: (TMI alert!) about an hour ago I felt like I was, erm, wetting myself a bit. Had a look and there was something in my pants but it was quite mucusy (no blood or anything though). What could it be? Nothing since, mind.

39+6 today

PenguinArmy · 04/10/2011 13:58

Not all plugs/shows have blood in, or not at first (it can be on/off for ages).

bilblio · 04/10/2011 13:58

OOh good luck Cheshire looks like you'll be next, our meet up will probably have to wait a while :o And yes, I've been knackered on ML too, just want to sleep but then can't at night.... although your body probably has more reason to be knackered right now.

Congratulations Sound!

Molybdenum I think I'll skip the placenta. DH often jokingly suggests it, but I saw the state my placenta was in last time and I don't fancy it. The Midwife thought I was very overdue, only 1 day over but DD is still a hungry lump. :)
Plus I'm a veggie. :O

Penguin Travel cup is a great idea. Or a water bottle I don't really do hot drinks now. I haven't been able to drink coffee all pregnancy, and I have 1 BIG cup of tea in the morning, then it's vimto or fruit juice the rest of the day. I remember last time though I'd get comfy on the settee feeding DD and realise my drink was just out of reach. A water bottle is now a standard present to all news Mums I know. :)

Edward I've signed up to Flylady and I'm on the Flylady threads on here too. Towards the end of last ML I got really cheesed off with the state of the house, but everything seemed like such an effort. Flylady really helped, so I've started it early this time... and the nesting instinct helps too. :)
I've only really been doing it a week. The house was a tip at the weekend because DD was home all day but because I'd spent last week starting to get on top of things it didn't take long to sort out this morning. It will no doubt be a mess again within 10 minutes of her getting home from school, but at least it's tidy during the day, and we're trying to teach her to clean up after herself.... then I just need to teach DH to do the same Hmm

I'm feeling drained today. I was on a course yesterday but I had to come out in the afternoon because it was too hot. I felt dreadful by the time I got home and went to bed really early. I'm so pleased it's cooled down today, and my cough and asthma feels so much better for it.

I was going to spend an hour crocheting before collecting DD, (still trying to finish this blanket) but I think I'm going to bake some quick yummy treats instead. Quick because I haven't the energy to stand up for long.

PenguinArmy · 04/10/2011 14:00

good that your asthma is clearing a bit. I've not needed my inhaler now for a few weeks so am optimistic it's back under control.

I'm shattered, can't sleep at night. DD is dropping her morning nap, but suppose we'll adjust soon

BB3 · 04/10/2011 14:01

mpops what colour was it?

Could be just heavy discharge but also could be a bit of show.

Penguin there is nothing more frustrating than a crappy travel cup - mine was forever leaking in my bag!!! Worth the investment!

Cheshire how are you getting on?

BB3 · 04/10/2011 14:06

Oh and Edward it is impossible to keep the house tidy with DS around. Honestly this morning I cleaned up all the toys, dusted was just about to get the hoover out and before I had left the room, DS had tipped out his food box, jumped all over the sofa cushions and left his biscuit remnants on the floor. Between him and the cotton wool that sticks to the carpet every time I change the girls I now give up and tidy round before bed so that for a few minutes in the morning at least I have a tidy living room!

mpops · 04/10/2011 14:07

Penguin and BB3, it was white and odourless, like discharge really. I guess what got me hoping was the fact that it felt like I was having a wee.

Now that's a sentence I never though I'd write. Blush

PenguinArmy · 04/10/2011 14:17

thank heavens for MN hey, couldn't say this stuff out in RL.

I would say you're having pre-labour signs, however pre and early labour are as long as a piece of string.

Engelsmeisje · 04/10/2011 14:19

2 days off the thread and it's taken me half an hour to catch up! Congratulations to all the new arrivals.

Nesting seems to have finally kicked in and after a lazy week and piling on the kilos last week (my cupboards are EMPTY of anything yummy now!) I've been cleaning the house and tidying up the years of rubbish we seem to have accumulated.

We're also having name issues. We have a boys name but girls is bit trickier. Complicated by the fact that even bilingual names like Sophie or Daniel, are pronounced differently in Dutch and English, so DH and I have to agree how we're going to pronounce it! It's doing my head in.

38 weeks today (Hurry up baby! My parents will be over here in 3 weeks!)
