Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hello all

ferino why will they induce you already - can't you go three days after waters have broken? I know I did with ds. Dies sound like things are happening get walking around / bouncing and hopefully you cab avoid induction (as you'll be on the drip induction if waters are already gone x

hope everything is going well monkey

Could someone add groovy and Sophia to baby list I can't do it from my phone!

We are the house of sickness today ds has cold, I've got a stinking headache and general feeling of crapness and girls will not settle so assuming they're not feeling great either x just in time for dh to go back to work tomorrow.

Ferino · 03/10/2011 13:11

Hi BB3. Thanks for your comments. I've not really had a clear answer on why they will induce so soon. They even said they'll bring me in 9pm tonight to avoid me going over the 24 hours if I had to wait until tomorrow morning - my current plan is to give them a call later and see if, assuming my temperature has stayed normal and there's no sign of meconium etc, they will let me stay at home a while longer. The triage nurse said the induction would be by gel at the minute. I'll be very disappointed if I'm stuck up in the 'high risk' ward and not getting my nice options, especially if there's no sign of foetal distress/infection.

Hope your house shifts the lurgy soon - the last thing you need! It very much seems to be doing the rounds at the minute.

Ferino · 03/10/2011 13:29

I've called the hospital and they say it's the Trust's policy that 24 hrs from membrane rupture is their limit. she also confirmed that means ante-natal ward until established labour and full monitoring on the bed throughout, even if there is no sign of distress. That's my entire birth plan down the toilet. I'm bitterly disappointed and now frantically bouncing on the ball, willing labour to kick in.

BB3 · 03/10/2011 13:55

Well hopefully you will be able to kick it off before tonight. Sometimes frustrates me how different hospital policies are, it's not really fair on mothers!!

Ferino · 03/10/2011 14:01

I know - 'Trust policy' isn't really a good enough medical answer for me, especially when it changes everything I'd planned for. It just makes it a bit scary and unfamiliar (first baby), when I'm trying to be very chilled out! Fingers very crossed, everything else as relaxed as humanly possible....!

BB3 · 03/10/2011 14:15

Well I don't think they can make you have an induction, I guess it depends how much you want to fight them on it - but hopefully the bouncing will make all this a non issue!

Wonder how sound is getting on - LO must have made an appearance by now hey?

Lots of babies on their way - yay!

Just updated the baby list - can you think of anyone missed off?

Roseflower · 03/10/2011 14:22

Hi everyone

Congrats on all the births!

HELP!

Does anyone mind my asking if they know how big their babies are predicted to be?

Im due on the 7th- she is predicted to be a "whopper" at over 9lbs

Im not getting really worried. Dc1 was only 6lbs and got stuck- I ended up in theatre and HDU

When I expressed my concerns at getting a "whopper" out when a tiny baby got stuck the consultant said it would be fine

But maybe its the heat, lack of sleep and hormones but I just feel like calling the midwife or hospital to say Im doubting doing this naturally is a good idea... what if she gets stuck, cannot get oxygen etc?

CheshireDing · 03/10/2011 14:41

Ferino I feel for you, I would be gutted at being low risk the whole way through and then for them wanting to do induction :( It sounds like you are doing everything I would be trying too, the only other things I can think of are trotting up and down the stairs and a bit of nookie Grin

I asked our mw about this as is bothered me that if my waters break and then nothing else really happens they will want me to go to hospital, lie on a bed and yes, like you, the whole birth plan will be out of the window. The mw whittered on about infection but I have also been told by other people your lady bits are not like a straw, just because your waters have broken they are not going to suck up an infection. Is it worth trying to stick to your guns and explain why for a bit longer? Hospital/Trust policy sounds such a pants excuse.

Rose we had Porgey measured at 34 weeks and it was around 5lb, so I am presuming it will end up 7/8lb (wouldn't like it to be any bigger as I am about 5ft 2")

seasaltbaby · 03/10/2011 14:49

congratulations groovy & *bubalie!! love coming on here and seeing so many babies here already and only the 3rd today!

good luck monkey & Ferino hope it all happens for you soon-I am also surprised at this 'trust policy' on 24 hours induction and might check with mine as I have no idea!

thanks to those of you who gave me advice on the carpel tunnel-its still here quite bad so might ask for physio referral and get some splits. I've also got such bad swollen feet over last few days its hard to walk, trying not to let it get me down....

pinkpainter I sympathise with the sleep issues-snap! I think it must be your bodies way of preparing you for being awake at night times so much....no real solutions but good to get up for a short while rather than lying there feeling frustrated,

so today is also my first day of mat leave and v relieved not to be doing the hours commute etc! so far I've mostly been pottering and cant believe how quickly the day seems to pass by!

37 weeks today and feeling like I've a long way to go on this bus!!

meravigliosa · 03/10/2011 15:20

Cupoftea's new thread on SN

pinkpainter · 03/10/2011 17:14

Thanks seasalt - we're only a few days apart so sounds like we are at the same stage - it could be any day, or as long as another month! Your ML sounds perfect, exactly what you should be doing - just pottering and relaxing :)

Just seen cupoftea's new thread too - very inspiring and positive....

Scheherezade · 03/10/2011 17:59

I really just can't keep up with this thread at all now, everything is happening thick and fast!

Me and DP havenow both had projectile poo incidents. Cyrus can squirt his poo a good 3ft when we're changing him. Impressive stuff!

Penelope - Jaundice very obvious, their skin looks suntanned, and the whites of their eyes are yellow.

Welcome to the world baby Luka :)

good luck monkeybubbles - am very jealous if you get to use a birthing pool! Let us know how it goes!

Am crossing fingers for you ferino , hoping the birth goes how you want it.

Seasalt - my labour actually started the day I hit 37 weeks, so you never know! (I had a show on the tuesday, then contractions started on the friday).

Am going to try catch up with cupofteas story aswell,

Ferino · 03/10/2011 19:13

Just a quick update for those of you who might end up in the same boat - I've been back on the phone to the labour ward who confirmed that, although I've been told to go in a 9pm, they wouldn't start the induction until 1am (the 24h mark) anyway. The thought of another night's lost sleep is very unappealing. A GP friend of mine worked in a trust that allowed 48hrs and the NICE guidelines indicate 72 hrs, fyi.

They've advised that if I choose not to go in until the morning then it's going against their advice but they can't force me.

Their main issue seems to be starting the IV antibiotics at 24hrs, so I've come to some kind of compromise by getting oral antibiotics from the GP. Temperature and amniotic fluid remain normal so the current plan is to keep an eye on it all, try to sleep, and go in first thing tomorrow. I'm not sure if there's any hope of the original birth plan if we go past 24h but at least it gives us a better chance of a spontaneous labour.

Thanks for all the support; I'm very grateful - hope you are all doing well, projectile poo notwithstanding!

bilblio · 03/10/2011 20:44

Feeling pretty rotten so about to head to bed. Haven't read all the posts but just wanted to comment on Ferino's.

My waters ruptured with my DD mid-afternoon on the Wednesday, but I didn't realise until 4:30am on the Friday when I started having contractions. I did half suspect but I'd read that so long as the fluids are clear (not green, yellow or black) and don't smell (they have a slightly sweet smell) then there's no sign of infection. But if you're given an internal then there's a strong chance of infection being introduced.

24 hours does seem OTT. When I did phone the hospital and I explained my waters may have gone they got me in straight away as they said they would be inducing me in the morning if I wasn't in labour as it had been over 48hours. I was in labour and DD was born at midday.

I think you've been sensible getting the antibiotics, just keep an eye on what fluids are coming out, try to get some sleep, and good luck!!!

soundofherwings · 03/10/2011 21:15

Hi everyone. Eleanor Lily arrived yesterday at 1.52pm, we just got home from hospital.

Ended up going in from home as midwife came out, but said I was 2cm and I wouldn't be in established labour until my contractions were much closer together and more regular. She went away again. 4 hours later they were still irregular and 8 minutes apart, but I wasn't coping and we decided to go in since I thought it was still latent phase. It turns out this was transition- I was fully dilated by the time we got to the hospital!

Contractions never did get closer together, and weren't enough to push her out- pushed for 3 hours and finally had a ventouse to pull her the last bit. Nasty tear so had to be stitched up in theatre, but it was fine. It wasn't the lovely home waterbirth I had in mind but none of it was as bad as I expected. I certainly didn't expect to get to 10cm with only a tens machine!

Scheherezade · 03/10/2011 22:01

Congratulations soundofherwings - what a beautiful name! And well done you :)

They're coming in thick and fast now!

LittlePebble · 03/10/2011 22:08

Congratulations soundofherwings hope you and Eleanor Lily are both doing well. Grin

Ferino hope all goes well for you and you manage to get things going before the induction.

MamaMaiasaura · 03/10/2011 22:21

Congratulations soundiofherwings and welcome Eleanor Lily Smile

Another evening of pains here Sad wondering if this is going to be the norm for weeks to come. Ds2 not well with temp and miserable. Sorry for moaning xx

PenguinArmy · 03/10/2011 23:24

awen that's what MN is for. It's natural to post more when your struggling, which can make you feel more guilty in return. Ignore that feeling however, and know we're not bothered

Penelope1980 · 04/10/2011 00:37

ferino hope you get a good rest!

sounds congrats - love the name Eleanor Lily. Will you call her Ellie for short? Lily is my all time fave girl's name and has been for years. I even thought of this one as Lily before - much to my surprise - I found out he was a boy at 20 wks!

Awen I hear you on the pains, I have had them for about 10 days now. They are getting a bit worse - have started taking panadol to sleep - but not contractions worse. And moan all you like! I know I do Wink

Thanks for all your lovely advice on my name dramas. I am fully aware that I am obsessing about it a little as well, as this feels like one tiny aspect of this whole journey I can control. I've decided that if we do use the name I won't tell anyone until my sister comes to hosp to meet the baby, then hope that once that happens she'll feel so overwhelmed by how cute he is she won't mind as much! And, at the least, hopefully she'll appreciate me telling her the name first.

40+5 today ... and midwife has started talking to me about induction dates for going over, which would likely be mid next week. How far over do they let you go where you live? I'd been told 10 days, but given things have been low risk for me it would probably be 13 - 14 days.

Tomorrow I have the first of my visitors arriving that had planned to meet a baby! Oh well, their bad for not coming a little later I suppose, although is a pity as my step sister leaves on Thurs and it's not looking like she'll get to meet him at all.

BB3 · 04/10/2011 01:47

sound huge congratulations and welcome to the world eleanor lily xx hope you're both doing ok x

fer my hind waters went on Wednesday with ds and I wasn't induced until Saturday.

Re induction with ds they wouldn't even consider inducing until 11 days over due date and would do it somewhere between 11-14 days.

Awen dont feel bad about moaning, that's one of the thongs mn is here for! I'm going to do the same now... (feel free to ignore my ranting) So ds has a cold and now Ayse Rose had a cold. Both have blocked up noses and are chesty. Neither of whom can sleep and Ayse needs to be permanently in my arms craving skin to skin cuddles and looking at me desperately to take the snuffly nose away so she can sleep Sad. Ive tried raising her mattress at one end, but It's not helping. And sorry for tmi but after a week of no bleeding I've just started bleeding again very heavily with some clotting so not sure if this is first period or more post pg bleeding. I am bloody Knackered and not looking like I'll get any sleep tonight x grrrrr

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 04/10/2011 02:17

Sorry you're having a tough time ATM bb3 & awen think there's a lot of colds/bugs going round right now. My DS wasn't himself today but just really slept loads (not that I was complaining)

So jealous of all these babies being born, I still don't feel any closer to getting mine at all, and so ready to be done with this pregnant thing!

38+1 today

BB3 · 04/10/2011 02:26

Thanks Edward - I'm sure it'll be fine, I'll catch up on some sleep tomorrow and we have the first hv visit at 11 now we have been discharged from midwife so I'll chat to her about what I can do for Ayse to relieve the snuffliness a bit.

Did you go over your due date with ds at all?

CheshireDing · 04/10/2011 03:00

Congratulations Sound, how brilliant that you got all that way with only the TENS machine! :)

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 04/10/2011 07:19

I was 4 days over with DS

When DS gets stuffy I always used an olbas oil vaporiser for kids in his room it always works but not sure if they're allowed under 3 months? I don't have the instructions anymore.
If not u could try one of those nose aspirator things.

Well we're all up early this morning DH had work v early today. But at least DS is sleeping much better now and so did I last night so not feeling quite like a zombie Grin might send DS to his grans this afternoon and blitz the house today.
Is it just me or does anyone (with kids already) feel as though you're constantly chasing you're tail with housework?! I literally have the place looking like a new penny and it only ever lasts until the next mealtime/DS comes in!
