Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I was really self concious about feeding in public last time. Actually the whole thing seemed a bit weird. I knew it was the most natural thing, and best for DD but it still felt odd at first. As soon as we started though something just clicked in me and I had no doubts after that. I feel really sorry for Mum's when I see them trying to sort out bottles while their babies are screaming.

I made sure I was confident at home first, FIL and BIL used to discretely go outside until I was sorted. MIL however used to peer over my shoulder to watch DD feeding!! Shock I used to pull my t-shirt right down so there was about a mm of flesh showing and throw a muslin over my shoulder. :o I think she was just impressed and a bit jealous. She had 2 emergency c-sections and never BF as she was too ill after both births.

The first place I fed DD in public was at the side of a reservoir in the middle of nowhere. :)

I wore vests underneath everything and baggy tops to pull up, much less revealing than button up shirts. I also had a big cotton wrap in DD's change bag, when I was out I could cover DD up with that so you definitely couldn't see anything. DD wasn't one to get distracted and pull it off thankfully, even now nothing distracts her from food. Because it was cotton it took up no space in the bag and it came in useful for loads of things, especially for draping over the pram when we wanted DD to go to sleep.

Penelope I sympathise. I live in the Netherlands and my mum only has school holidays off, so they've booked to come over from the Monday to Friday. I'll be 40w +6 when they get here and 41w +3 when they leave so if the baby isn't on time then they'll have to head back over unless they want to wait til Christmas.

We were really strict at saying that they absolutely cannot stay with us (that ship has sailed. We've had them at ours quite a bit over the past few years, but they drive my DH crazy when they're staying here and having the baby is finally giving us an excuse to say that it's time to sort out your own accomodation). But at least with NL it's close enough that they can come over for the weekend if the baby is late. Otherwise at least I'll have some company while I'm waiting but I have a feeling that he/she is not going to wait for 40w.

BB3 I think your meltdown is totally justified. Am thankful that I'm only going to have to pt up with half of our family and friends in the first few weeks after LO arrives (since all my family are back in the UK) and I'm relying on my kraamzorg and DH to get rid of anyone who overstays their welcome in the first week (Here in NL we get a sort of maternity nurse/doula for 45 or so hours over the first 8 days at home to support me. Hoping that I don't get an old dragon who doesn't speak any English!).

Having a sleepless night. Came downstairs an hour ago as I'm sure my tossing and turning is not helping DH who jas to get up for work in 15 minutes. Really enjoying my ML......though have been stuffing my face the last week to make up for the first 6 months. Pretty sure that it's all the junk food I'm stuffing that's giving me heartburn rather than the baby!

LittlePebble · 26/09/2011 07:12

BB3 as everyone has said, your amazing to have only had one meltdown after emergency c section, 2 babies plus DS, plus no sleep, plus a houseful of people! I hope you're feeling better and DH has been pampering you. I imagine he's pretty tired too though so can be forgiven? Big hug from here x

Awen yes my movements changed but you should still be feeling lots of movement so if you are worried call your midwife as they won't mind at all.
Cheeky yes DP and I made up thanks, just both overtired and not communicating. Thankfully he had the day off yesterday so we put up pictures round house and achieved some of the things on my list Grin (still haven't packed bag though will do that this morning Blush)
Hope everyone is feeling ok any more twinges?? Xx

LittlePebble · 26/09/2011 07:17

Engel I was really proud at not putting on too much weight but seem to have piled on another half a stone in the last two weeksBlush! (am sure eating lots of cake for my first week of ML has something to do with it) but couldn't help buy lots of chocolate and naughty bits yesterday - have been really good up until now. Cue ballooning in last two weeks...

38+1

LittlePebble · 26/09/2011 07:19

Bilblio lol at your MIL peering over your shoulder!

Penelope1980 · 26/09/2011 09:27

pebble and engel I am clearly joining you with the chocolate and junk food while on ML. I keep hoarding food to have in the house (like chocolate and crisps) and then eating it all. Junk food is so awesome right now.

I weighed myself today out of curiosity and have put on 3 1/5 stone since getting my BFP, although am not too concerned as I know I have swollen a bit recently and my bump is the size of a small truck.

My sister came over before and made up the moses basket for baby (in her wisdom of already having children she said it was something I'd appreciate when I get home with him) which was nice, but now I want the baby to come even more!

TallyBear · 26/09/2011 10:14

Hum, first morning of ML....what to do...?! Fingers crossed have lots of deliveries coming so can't go out. Feel oddly guilty that I'm not in work! I refuse to watch daytime telly - with the exception of Homes under the Hammer!

Baby hiccuping a lot lately. Feels really odd. His movement pattern is different from when I'm at work, maybe because I'm not up as early and moving about so much (ladies - could this be why the pounds are going on more now?)

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 26/09/2011 10:50

I'm going to work on some nice pictures today to put on nursery wall, then I have 2 photo books to make online so busy morning for me :-)

I'm another that has now developed a junk food/cake/biscuit habit!
Was out with a friend last night to see puppetry of the penis (got the tickets for free) was really hoping all the laughter might push baby into action but doesn't seem so.

Really struggling with tiredness poor DS has a wee infection in his penis and was up most of the night. :-(

TallyBear · 26/09/2011 11:01

Snap with the unhealthy food at the moment - although did scoff three plums in a row and did a huge pile of veg (homegrown [v. proud of myself emoticon]) with the roast yesterday to make myself feel a bit better.

Edward.. sounds like it's all penises for you at the moment! Hope DS is better soon.

SconesForTea · 26/09/2011 12:26

BBB I echo what everyone else has said and think you're doing absolutely marvellously, feeding newborn twins after EMCS and coping with all those visitors. For what it's worth, I'd make very clear to my DH (and indeed I have Grin) that his job is to see to visitors, make tea, and get rid of them when I've had enough - oh and cook dinner and wash up, do all washing and look after DD (for two weeks at least) - my one and only job is to look after the new LO. And that should be ALL you're doing too.

How is the blocked duct?

I got a pg email from one website saying that I won't put on much if any weight in the last month Hmm Err right, maybe in the universe where I am not sitting on the couch eating biscuit after biscuit after packet of crisps.

I am soooo jealous of you all on ML. I wish, wish, wish I could have a ML!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 26/09/2011 13:06

I have only had an overall weight gain of around 10lbs since BFP but I lost about 1.5st in first 3-4months then put it all back on again. I think I'm actually thinner everywhere now except bump :-) my prob is keeping it off once baby comes.

Need to go have some lunch now and register DS at nursery, think I should have done that about 6 months ago oops!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 26/09/2011 13:08

scones are u not having ANY mat leave??? Sad

Scheherezade · 26/09/2011 13:44

Will read through and catch up with how everyone is when we get home! Hopefully leaving hosp today, have been given the all clear :)

sassy34264 · 26/09/2011 13:53

hello. bb3 i had a meltdown yesterday and ive not even had mine yet! i was just sooo exhausted. i could hardly move. i was crying and really feeling sorry for myself. took myself off to bed and slept for nearly 2 hours.
if it was me, i'd do one of 2 things. either put a time limit or time slot on visitors or pack babies up in a pram after a feed and send them out on a brisk walk with the visitors and go to bed. make dh watch ds too.

my dad and his wife called yesterday and she took one look at me and said i dont think you're going full term. i took the opportunity to say, i know and this silly bugger is going abroad in my 37th week. anyway, ive just had a phone call from dp and he has cancelled it.......yeah! apparantly they couldnt fly him out on the 4th oct and therefore it would have to be a later date, so he has told them he cant do it. watch him miss it anyway- umph.

MrsHende · 26/09/2011 16:58

Yay sassy! That's great news about DP not going abroad.

And yay to Scheh for getting the all clear, hope you're home!

For those of you on the junk food train can I highly recommend M+S's new box of chocs - toffee, fudge and caramel selection. My MIL bought us them yesterday and I've had to hide them from myself!

My MIL has been round this today doing a marathon ironing session for me and DH while I've been writing reports...which will make me sound like an ungrateful so and so when I ask what I'm about to ask...Blush

A friend of MIL's has given us a load of newborn and 0-3 clothes - loads of white vests and sleepsuits. Very kind of the friend, and MIL, also very kindly, has washed and ironed them all before bringing them round today.

Now comes the ungrateful bit. I think they smell!

Whenever we stay at my IL's house I think our clothes come back with a distinctive smell that I don't like. I think their house has some damp in it and as a result anything kept in the fitted wardrobes smells a bit damp. Am i being a muppet if I now wash and iron all these clothes again? I'd hate her to ever find out, she'd be so hurt. (And she really is kind - see chocs and ironing session!! - I'd hate to hurt her) I'm not sure what to do. I could easily do it without her knowing but I don't know how DH would react and I don't want him to think I'm ungrateful or overreacting. He knows that I think their house smells bad and agrees.

I suppose I could maybe wait till I'm on mat leave and see if I have the energy - my mum is coming through and I'm sure she'd help me turn it round in a day so DH wouldn't need to know! But am I just being daft and creating work for myself?!

What would you do?????

sassy34264 · 26/09/2011 17:12

mrsh no i dont think you are being daft. i would HAVE to, or i wouldnt be able to put them on baby. my mil brings me sil's ds hand me downs all washed and ironed, but i wash them again as mil smokes and i can smell it.
if you do get caught out by dh, i would just say that you needed to wash them in non bio as its a newborn and you didnt think mil had done that.

sassy34264 · 26/09/2011 17:16

glad you are on your way home scheh Smile

35+5
the number of weeks and days i was when waters broke with twins.

Leo4 · 26/09/2011 17:21

Hey everyone haven't been on in a few days but thought I'd let you know I have been admitted to be induced tonight 38+6 for high bp and reduced movements .. Il let you all know how it goes!! Scared ...

seasaltbaby · 26/09/2011 17:33

Ooh good luck Leo, hope all goes ok! Keep us posted....

I'm joining in on the junk food score, last few days have included fish n chips, cake, cooked breakfast & cream tea (I am on holiday in cornwall so most r mandatory!)

Mrsh, I would wash them if u have the energy & don't feel bad, although u could try just airing them & seeing if after couple days in your house they smell better!

Bubalie · 26/09/2011 17:34

Hi all,

Hope everyone ok, Leo good luck, let us know how things go and don't be scared, you will soon have something else to concentrate on.
Well done Scheh for being signed off, I hope you get home soon with your baby we are waiting to hear your birth story!! :)

Junk food - hmmmmmm I've been eating Nutella straight from the jar, I used to have it on pancakes, but can't be bothered to do the pancake bit so have it 'neat' LOL!! I am also eating all sorts of chocolates, crisps etc... although I do have proper 3 meals a day but do snack heavily after dinner. I have put on around 14kg since been pregnant so not too bad I guess....

Getting bored now, I've done all I need to do (apart from birth plan - can't get motivated) and am now waiting patiently as 38+2 today :)

CheshireDing · 26/09/2011 18:27

MrsH definitely wash them.

Leo good luck tonight :)

Seasalt cream teas are HEAVEN. Once Porgey is here I plan on DH and I (and Porgey) having cream teas and little sandwiches in M&S in the middle of a weekday, oooh it sounds so decadent - sad I know!

Bub I cannot believe you have not written your birth plan yet!

Bumpsadaisie · 26/09/2011 18:44

Can join you all in the junk food fest! Still like my healthy food too but just with loads of choc and cake on top of it!!

Mrs H - I would wash again! Theres something about washing and ironing your own baby's clothes thats important I think - sort of getting prepared and sending subliminal messages to baby / body. I've washed and ironed everything now and keep opening the drawer to admire it all (Dh thinks I'm insane). I just feel very pleased that although there is no way I will ever have time to iron anything ever again for this little DS, at least things were ironed the very first time! Grin

PenguinArmy · 26/09/2011 19:32

wash them, ironing can wait.

Leo good luck, no need to be scared just get them to talk you through everything if you have Q's

PenguinArmy · 26/09/2011 19:34

I've still not had a call from the MWs, wonder how long to leave it before chasing them. I think my plan atm is to try for a labour if it happens but refuse induction so book a ELCS for term +10days.

Going away for 24 hours so I have a incentive to pack most of my labour bag as figure I better take that and my (very bare) notes with me.

MamaMaiasaura · 26/09/2011 19:35

MrsH - wash them and blame it on nesting. X

Scheh - congratulations Grin glad you are home and looking forward to birth story

Little one gave a few bigger moves today when his big brother decided to make music with all my pots and pans lol. I think it's all a bit cramped in there now. Midwife tomorrow afternoon and hoping to hear further engaged.

I did some funny cleaning this weekend... I washed and scrubbed sand and water table and all the toys incl buckets and spades. Neighbours must think I'm nuts. Hoping to get decking delivered Friday and get it sorted before baby arrives, tho dh has ordered that I'm not to do it and he will... We will see Wink
