Ladies, our previous thread was getting full so here is a lovely new shiny home for us all.

I've put some comfy cushions around and plenty of pregnancy safe snacks and drinks. The Segway park is in the corner over there next to the stack of glittery vom buckets (plenty of extra buckets too for all the newbies).

In the corner over here you'll find our library of leaflets including sections on early pregnancy private scan clinics, pushchairs and car seats.

Hope you all like it very much :)

Dream - here are the bravissimo shops. I am guessing closest to you would be Manchester or Chester?

Or, I think you could call them and they might be able to help with fitting / measuring, but not as good as going in obv

That's crazy, Love, I've heard of pregnant women being refused drinks in pubs but never an underwired bra! She obviously took her responsibilities very seriously Grin

I have some hideous non-underwired M and S ones from last time that I am going to have to dig out soonish. In fact I am going to have to get the elasticated waists out before long. I can last until lunch time and then I have to undo my trouser button. Not such a good solution in public!

Looking forward to hearing the results of the scanathon next week. triplets, anyone?!

Biscuitsandtea · 06/10/2011 21:35

I can just imagine you all sending non-pg friends in to buy contraband bras for you.

Like kids that hang round near corner shops and want you to buy cigarettes for them....

Could you order the same item online once you've found one that fits?

Dream, yay for twins! Twins rock. I am a twin and daughter of a twin. I have read that full term for twins is 37 weeks, if that helps with the premature worry. I was born at 35 weeks by C-section, but I was transverse and my sister was breech, so there was no way Mum was getting a natural birth. We both weighed around 4lbs and spent some time in incubators, but we were absolutely fine. Mum expressed milk and then went on to bf us both for a year, so it didn't affect that either. And Granny gave birth to twin boys naturally in 1964 with no complications.

I need to go bra shopping this weekend. I only have two bras that even sort of fit and one of them is getting too tight (and the other one is too high-cut for most of my clothes, because I am a hussy). I must be at least a 34FF now - am definitely getting underwired!

Have managed to convince myself that Bean will be fine and it is just a placenta problem that they can deal with...at least, most of the time I believe that. My brain thinks differently at 1 am when DH is asleep. It's going to be a long couple of weeks.

dreamfeeder · 06/10/2011 22:24

Thanks biscuits, may have to trudge down south to manchester then.... Sigh. Without DD, she'd hate it... Chester is even further, but I do have a step sister near there I could combine it with a visit to her and her tribe (of 3 under 4- and I thought that was bad!). Well, they used to be, oldest is 6 now, 6!!

Love the thoguht of contraband bra buying, amazing how some people have such strong opinions, and can't consider they could be wrong!

Probably a good job I forgot the buttons, think what the sonographer would have thought if I started feeding my not-quite 13 month old chocolate in her little room?!

scream, I'm 28, 29 next summer (when the twins will be a few months old!). Got pregnant with DD when I was 26, and had her at 27. DH is 35, and doesn't want to be an old dad, hence not hanging around. What's the correlation with age and twins? Higher if you're younger I presume?

And erm, should I worry with a higher risk twin pregnancy that we're University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay? As in, the trust in the news recently for having a red alert for dangerous standards of care in maternity services?!?! Fix it or be shut down?!?! No nuchal fold scanning is offered here.... It wasn't even an option for me. Think it's more Barrow hospital than Lancaster (which I'm closer to, I'd rather give birth in a Boots store than give birth in Barrow from what I've heard), but even so...

dreamfeeder · 06/10/2011 22:26

oh too, x posts. What a lovely post, thank you.

I am Brooking No Argument Whatsoever your bean is fine. I really, really hope so for you. You deserve some good news, you really do. x

pommedechocolat · 06/10/2011 22:41

Twins!! Yay!! Statistically we had to have some. How amazing dream, what a surprise. You'll have such a little brood, you'll be like a moorhen with her ducklings!

I thought non id twins was more likely as you get older but it can also be genetic - ie the genetic trait of releasing two eggs at ov.

musicalmrs · 07/10/2011 08:17

dream - Well, they only saw one! Of course, twins are often picked up later - 12 wk scan is a month today, so we'll see then! My symptoms haven't been particularly over-powering though, except the extreme tiredness, so I'm now suspecting it's a singleton in there! I'm more than happy with a singleton. I'm concerned as to how huge I'll be with the one (I'm a very tiny person, and will look rather amusing), let alone if I were having twins!

Has anyone got anything lovely planned for their weekend? I'm looking forward to spending lots of time asleep!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 07/10/2011 09:33

Ooooo Dream we're exactly the same age! The correlation between non id twins and age is the older you are the more likely it is, particularly over 35. So your twins really are miracle twins! No age correlation, no family history, not your ethnic background, no fertility treatment. The only indicator you had was breastfeeding and that's more of an old wives tale I think, I'm not sure if there are any studies to back that up? Anyways EXTRA congratulations! I think your twins were just destined to be! By the way, all hospitals have at least a few scary stories, but with multiples you'll get the gold star VIP treatment! Plus your DrDH will keep them in line!

Too I'm glad to hear you're feeling so positive most of the time You are such an incredibly strong person. I'm still No Brooking like crazy for you!

Working from home today before my mw appts this afternoon, so exciting! I'm trying to come up with a list of questions (I never remember anything I want to know once theyre in front of me!) Any suggestions? So far I only have "Should I request a flu jab?"

pommedechocolat · 07/10/2011 10:36

I'm having my flu jab the week after next Scream - big posters all round my GPs about flu jabs for pregnant ladies, OAPs and diabetics. I think it's definitely a good idea.

Biscuitsandtea · 07/10/2011 10:39

I'm getting my flu jab tomorrow too

Although I think my surgery were supposed to be inviting pregnantos I still had to chase them about it - I'm not sure they knew I was pg even though i'd been for my booking in etc, so I'd ask the mw but you might need to chase the docs for it too.

OP posts:
pommedechocolat · 07/10/2011 11:26

So basically there's no need for an independent mw when you have mumsnet!

Biscuitsandtea · 07/10/2011 11:30

(although I do draw the line at turning up to deliver your baby Scream!)

I'll be cheering you on, but nobody ever ever ever is getting me down the business end of a birth. I find it bad enough that I have to be there when I give birth Blush

OP posts:
dreamfeeder · 07/10/2011 11:39

Thats lovely scream. Yes they are miracle twins.

Now, close your ears to my whinging ladies....
I feel so ill. Have tried to come off my meds. I have done nothing but puke for 3 days (thought I should give it a decent shot), I'm hungry, I'm thirsty, and I've lost another lb despite having 2 placentas, 2 amniotic sacs and 2 babies plus a distinct huge bump. I am feeling a bit disspirited about how long this nausea and vomming will go on as I'm finding it quite debilitating now(and wondering how on earth bartlet coped with it til 30 weeks). My dad has come up to help today, I'm struggling...

And hawthers, what on earth is all this night antics about with our children?! DD was up from 12:30 til 2:30 last night- I'd manage to get her back into her cot for long enough for me to get back into bed, try and get comfy and WAH!!! At 2:30 I gave up and lay in the spare bed with her on my chest. At about 4 I finally managed to put her down beside me. She was still asleep when I needed to get up and be sick this morning, so I left her horizontal on the bed with her feet near the edge. Just as I was about to go back to her, BUMP, WAH!!!! yes, she'd fallen out (?!?) and has a big bruise on her cheek. I feel really bad about that, I shouldn't have left her...

The exhaustion is definitely adding to my low ebb today (I was still too wired about twins to get to sleep before she'd got up last night).

Suppose I'd better ring up about the flu jab...

Hope everyone else is doing ok and I will be back, less self obsessed and a bit more chirpy soon I hope. (and full!!! Now I've had maximum dose of the Magic Pills!!)

MeconiumHappens · 07/10/2011 11:41

wow dream two babies, no wonder so much puking! The mass majority of twins do really really well. Have known lots of term twins and lots of normal births, particularly in people who have had a baby before. I'd prob avoid a CS like the plague if they are well positioned as newborn twins plus toddler plus CS= bloody hard work.

Its difficult when your work gives you a skewed view of it, but particularly if they are dcda twins chances are will do very well and cook for a good amount of time. Its very exciting :) The logistics of prams/car seats is going to take some thinking i imagine, but have seen some really innovative double prams coming onto the market. Ooo wonder what flavour they will be!

One week til scan woooo wooooo :) No twins for me as have already had a peek preview. Am feeling so much more excited about scan now ive heard heart beat. Wonder how the dates will pan out, my early scan made me a week less than id thought.

Am going to get my flu jab done once im over 12 weeks, based on no fact but avoiding all chems until after 12 weeks.

dreamfeeder · 07/10/2011 11:46

lol musical, DH said if twins are picked up earlier there's a chance one may be miscarried anyway. If there are 2 in there, maybe better tehy find them later!! I think, HOPE, that as I had 2 good strong heartbeats at 12 weeks both of my little ones will be ok. I'm a size 8 (certainly now I've lost quite a bit) and am also a bit worried about how huge I'll be, judging by my bump measuring 98th centile last time and everyone commenting how enormous I was. What on earth will happen now!! I'm the size I was at 20 weeks by evening with a bit of bloating added in...even with my lack of eating.

dreamfeeder · 07/10/2011 11:50

meconium I'm under a consultant anyway due to my difficult first birth and third degree tear, so section is an option for me anyway, singleton or twins. DH is concerned re: me re-tearing with the first twin and then going for second repair and c-section for twin no.2 anyway. We have heard of 2 people who had their first baby naturally and second by section as second turned as first born, which I think is the worst of both worlds!!! I will take the consultant's advice, she's excellent.

dreamfeeder · 07/10/2011 11:54

but yes, I can't imagine anything worse than a section and being stuck without being able to drive for 6 weeks with 3 little ones....

MeconiumHappens · 07/10/2011 12:08

Ah, complex decision making for you then. Agree normal birth for first and section for 2nd would be grim. What is the chance of it though, I guess your cons will be able to dig out some stats for you.

Will you find out the genders? I think I would be tempted to for twins whereas not for a singleton, dont know why!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 07/10/2011 13:39

Biscuits I totally understand how you feel about not wanting to be in any more births than absolutely necessary. I would also rather like to skip my own! There's something about being the only person in the room screaming in pain which I'm really not looking forward to.....! Sorry, ignore my pessimism, I'm a big fraidy cat when it comes to pain and I would probably scream even if the entire process only lasted five minutes and was wholly under epidural!

Dream if you do go down the csection route I'm sure you'll have so many friends and relatives lining up to adore your twins that you'll have too many helpers for the first 6 weeks! You'll know about this much more than me, but my friends with babies all say the trick is to stop thinking of visitors as guests, and to make sure every person who comes through your door in the first few weeks after the birth does at least one useful thing before they leave! The only people visiting that early are close family and friends anyway, so they won't mind pitching in!

Unfortunately the independent midwife can't make it today! Sad She had a conference this morning but she was trying to get back early enough to come round, but she's just texted to say that the conference ran late and she won't be able to make it today after all. We already had a back up appt in the diary for next week Wednesday though, so it's still quite soon.

Just waiting for my NHS booking in appt now! Man I hate needles...

pommedechocolat · 07/10/2011 14:32

Birth is a bit of a necessary evil imo, a simple means to an end and I don't really get all the hooha around it all as an 'experience' at all. As my births will always be uber planned, monitored and medical I probably do have a slightly odd view point though!

dream - a c section could be more planned in terms of time which would allow you and your family to organise the following weeks of your recovery better. You'll be fine whatever, there's months more brooking to get in the bank yet!

Biscuitsandtea · 07/10/2011 14:36

Agreed Pomme - it really is a means to an end isn't it, but given we come back and do it again it must have been worth it :)
