Ladies, our previous thread was getting full so here is a lovely new shiny home for us all.

I've put some comfy cushions around and plenty of pregnancy safe snacks and drinks. The Segway park is in the corner over there next to the stack of glittery vom buckets (plenty of extra buckets too for all the newbies).

In the corner over here you'll find our library of leaflets including sections on early pregnancy private scan clinics, pushchairs and car seats.

Hope you all like it very much :)

Thanks all for the support. I did tell my employer (but not the actual schools - just told them it was a 'medical appointment' - for now!). Was a bit weird to be congratulated. I also told her the situation, and at the end of the call she said "Now we know, I'll be sending you some maternity information from the borough". Argh - not what I was after at this moment in time...

dream -

Wanted your advice about scans! The nurse on the phone said to drink 6 (!!) glasses of water an hour beforehand. It was only later that I realised I didn't ask what size those glasses should be! My glasses are huge, and I don't think I'd survive having drunk six of those without going to the loo for an hour...

How much were others recommended to drink before theirs?

musicalmrs · 19/09/2011 19:37

Whoops! I meant I wanted everyone's advise about scans, not just Dream's!

dream, thanks for mentioning your step sister's friend. It's a good reminder that a bean can survive despite lots of bleeding - and that all can be ok in the end.

Biscuitsandtea · 19/09/2011 20:18

I think I had heard to drink 1 pt an hour before? I was rushing though and only did 750mls over the hour before - like 1 hr to 20 mins before which was prob a bit too late - the sonographer lady was a bit Hmm at my bladder, although it felt full to me. Could still see it though.

Now I'm wondering if it was a litre or a pint an hour before?

OP posts:
LoveInAColdClimate · 19/09/2011 20:24

I think it's a pint over the hour before the scan. I was really thirsty before my 12 week scan, drank loads more, and had to let a bit out (twice) so she could do the scan Blush.

mememummy · 19/09/2011 20:30

hi yall my scan letter says drink a pint to a pint and half 60-90mins before appointment

cant wait to hear all the good news about scans tomorrow morning :)

BartletForAmerica · 19/09/2011 20:33

With DS, I had a scan at 8 weeks for abdominal pain and then my 12 week scan. At both appointments, I was told NOT to drink anymore than normal.

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 19/09/2011 20:38

I think mine said a litre of water (or non-gassy liquid) an hour beforehand. Mind you, I was terrible at drinking it - I was drinking it in the waiting room, not an hour in advance, and they could still make out baby bean plus heartbeat at 6+5 and then again at 8+5, so I don't think you have to stick to it that closely!

Good luck to both Musical and Love - FX, Brooking, touching wood and all other luck-bringing things going on here for you both. How funny that you're both booked in at 9.20! It makes it nice and simple to remember - shall be sending extra strong pg vibes to you both at that point.

HidingInTheUndergrowth · 19/09/2011 20:56

Good luck musical and love with your scans tomorrow. I will be brooking like nobodies business on your behalf.

When I had my scan I dutifully drank lots of water and then when I got there the receptionist lady told me I didn't need to drink any extra at all, which was something of a relief as I had to wait ages for the scan and would probably have wet myself if couldn't go to the loo Blush

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 19/09/2011 22:39

I guess it's a bit late to mention it now, but my scan email also said 1 pint 1 hour before the scan. I drank exactly that (someone posted on here earlier in the week that they'd drunk too much before their scan, so I got all paranoid and measured mine out in a jug Grin oops! Bit keen!)

As others have said I doubt it's an exact science. Just having some liquid in your bladder at the time of the scan is all they'll need I imagine.

I will be No Brooking all night and tom morning for Love and Musical! I will also be sneaking onto MN via my phone at work tom, at periodic intervals after 9.20 looking for good news!

Night night all!

dreamfeeder · 19/09/2011 23:22

Night all too!

Had a friend round so been deprived of mn til now...

I think here we're told a pint and a half of water for 12 week scan and no extra for 20 week. However, I was sent to have a 'half wee' as bladder too full, (after that amount) and the sonographer said actually, the advice re:drinking hasn't been changed in donkeys years where the actual technology has, and it is generally not neceassary to have a really full bladder. I may go for the bartlet and hiding approach and drink no extra... I hated the full bladder bit, made it sooo uncomfortable! Plus will depend on how vomity I am.

hawthers and scream, I do like her sleeping on me like a little chest frog, especially now she's bigger and has an arm around my neck in a cuddle too, very sweet. However, when it went on from 1-4am, I was so over it.... ABout 30 min last night was just lovely Grin Have a feeling I'll get a bit more chest-frog baby tonight from the snuffly one. But her room is like a walk-in aromatherapy chamber, I got a bit carried away with the Olbus oil (and even read the instructions, which said 4 drops on a tissue for baby to inhale. I did about 10 seconds good shaking onto a sleeping bag and then realised the aroma intensified....) so mybe I'll get away with an uninterrupted night

Only been sick twice today (hooray!) but STILL got the runs.... When we went trekking in Nepal, we were often walking with a bigger group, and as everyone but everyone got D&V in Nepal from wither the food or the notorious water, poo/illness tended to be a daily discussion at least touched on in passing, using the Mars Bar Scale. I know the medics on here will immediately want to adapt this for clinical use it's so good.... Obviously, you just graded your current level of illness on whether it's like a Mars bar (grade 1) or more like a Mars bar milkshake (10 out of 10, you could poo through the eye of a needle). I have resorted to giving DH mars bar scale updates to cheer myself up (back to a 10 today darling!!!!). Probably still preferable to the later constipation, I think... Not sure how much DH is enjoying the experience Wink

Hope all goes well at 9:20m for you love and musical, I expect nothing but good news and will be Brooking for you both

BartletForAmerica · 20/09/2011 06:47

Ha ha, we do actually use something very similar to the Mars Bar scale. Only if you are prepared to be disgusted, Google 'Bristol Stool Chart'.

dream, so glad you are doing better.

Will be No Brooking for those scans later ph.d.

Biscuitsandtea · 20/09/2011 06:56

Love and Musical I am brooking in earnest for you - do take care both of you xxx

OP posts:
jenfraggle · 20/09/2011 07:43

The scans today will show that everything is fine. Lots of brooking here on your behalf

jaggythistle · 20/09/2011 08:06

Grin at the mars bar scale!

brooking no argument for this morning's scans.

i puked once last night and am in awe of those with mega puking. how do you have any throat left? mine seemed to be an aversion to my toothpaste, got some different stuff at the shops as it's been making me feel dodgy for ages.

2nd birthday cake to be baked today. we are v excited with all the pressies wrapped and ready for tomorrow. :)

dream i am about to curse myself to sleepless nights, but i totally miss my night time cuddles. . DS sleeps pretty well now and won't be cuddled to sleep, even for nap time! not got my feeding cuddles either, he does seem to have weaned and just tries to latch on then runs away couple of times a week. the only time he loves snuggle is after his bath, it's lovely. :)

hawthers · 20/09/2011 08:40

Will be brooking no argument for musical and love with an extra dollop at 9.20

dream the moral of the story is be careful what you wish for... DS was up between 12.30 and 3.15 last night. Bless DH he did a long shift for the first 2 hours and I popped in to finish him off rock him to sleep for 15 mins. Got my koala cuddle together with backache and extreme tiredness... Hmm not too sure how we'll cope with th sleepless nights again in a few months

farfallarocks · 20/09/2011 09:12

Just popping in to say thinking of love and musical, lots of no brooking vibes for about 8 minutes time :)

Purplebuns · 20/09/2011 10:03

I have been brooking all morning for you Love & Music I hope you are both beaming right now and all is exactly as it should be :)

HidingInTheUndergrowth · 20/09/2011 10:31

Just poking my head in to check if there is any news on the scans this morning. Mind you if mine was anything to go by they will still be sitting about in the waiting room :)

I have realised that if I lie on my back and poke myself repeatedly in the belly I can now feel the top of my utereus in my lower stomach (it works particularly well just after DTD as it seems to go really solid for a bit...sorry, was that TMI? Blush ) so it looks like everything is moving up now. I was so excited I made DP feel but I am not sure he really got the joy.

DenyEverything · 20/09/2011 10:57

Hoping all went well for love and music.

hiding, am loving the thought of you studiously poking your belly and trying to get DP enthused!

pommedechocolat · 20/09/2011 11:13

More no brooking vibes coming from over here for love and musical

musicalmrs · 20/09/2011 11:17

Thanks everyone for the brooking - I really appreciate it.

Sadly there's no real news. There's a sac and yolk, but nothing more yet (they only did a standard scan, not a vaginal one). They've booked me in for another scan in two weeks time, to see if it's viable.

The gynae said that it might have been late implantation bleeding. She took more blood, and I asked to be called with the results- so hopefully I'll hear by the end of the day. On the plus side, the bleeding's slowed down significantly today..

So, not bad news, though not brilliant news either! Hoping Love has some good news for us all soon.

pommedechocolat · 20/09/2011 11:22

Musical - sorry to hear you're still a bit in limbo but a sac and a yolk on a standard scan at this point is still very positive. Why didn't they do fanny cam too?

Hope blood results help reassure you too later.

musicalmrs · 20/09/2011 11:36

pomme - I'm not sure why they didn't do a fanny cam! It wasn't mentioned at any point - and I only thought about it afterwards. I was too concerned with my almost-exploding bladder to ask any questions other than the most important!

I know sac and yolk is still positive, but seeing whether hCG has risen after the bleeding is probably more indicative...

pommedechocolat · 20/09/2011 11:41

Fingers crossed for the results later musical

fishcakefoxtrot · 20/09/2011 13:34

That does sound positive, Musical, and I really hope that you get good blood results later. Will be brooking intensively for you and Love.

Not much to report here. I have had a letter asking me to a screening appointment to meet one of the team midwives. Not sure what the screening is for (it's a separate appointment to the scan one). There will also be an 'information exchange'- any idea what that is about? Confused. Any ideas will be much welcomed!

Oh, and does anyone know how many cups of tea are within the recommended caffeine limits? I am hoping it's more than two as that simply is not enough Brew
