An I missed that you said you've told friends even not close ones already - tell your parents!!!

Boss/work is a different thing - you can wait as long as you want to :)

tiredteddy · 09/08/2012 13:17

Missed your post manda definitely tell your parents they will be thrilled. You can share the joy and excitement. And I agree with the support thing too. If you were to need them they would be prepared and in the know. It will make their day!!

mandasand · 09/08/2012 13:38

Thanks for the advice re telling parents. Really good to bounce this around and get your thoughts. I'm not sure if we would tell parents if something wasn't right at the 12-week scan, if we hadn't already (too upsetting for them and I would end up supporting DM more than she me!) but ? I don't know, my gut reaction is to tell them as we'll be so close by then and we can only keep our FX for a good result at the scan. Will keep musing with DH.

17 weeks, tiredteddy! That's a good place to be! Smile Hope you're having fun by the seaside!

Hope you enjoy sharing the news with your DPs, wing!

ChildOfThe1980s · 10/08/2012 16:58

Mandasand We always tell our parents first, but we are close. Lots of close friends and family know now- we can't really do secrets!

I haven't had a good week. I've had tiny amounts of red spotting for the last 2 weeks. I saw my GP, who referred me to the Early Preg Unit. I had some spotting in my first preg, so was thinking everything would be fine.

They found a heartbeat, which is great, but my amniotic sac is not right. It's irregular in shape which means it could come away from the womb any time, and also it does need to change shape to a nice round size so that the baby can grow, asap.

I have another scan in just over a week, where they will be hoping that the sac has grown to a better shape.

I am still spotting, although it is brown now, and watery. As DH says, the watery-ness could be from the amniotic sac having ruptured, so am feeling down again.

Most of my family and friends who we already told, have been updated now. It's nice to know that we are in their thoughts and prayers.

I do feel that I was warned about this, by my two dreams about MC and the feeling that things aren't right. Also I have virtually no preg symptoms, which is so different from my first preg. :(

Sorry to be so negative. Hope everyone else's babies are doing well.

mandasand · 10/08/2012 17:13

Child, oh you've nothing at all to apologize for. You sound really calm in the face of worrying symptoms such as the spotting and the irregular shaped sac. BUT the baby is still there, with a heartbeat, and you are around eight weeks now, right? They told me that the chance of miscarriage drops a lot after eight weeks so just hold on, think positive thoughts, and try to look after yourself. It's a bit of a rollercoaster this pregnancy malarky, isn't it? I've just spent 30 mins weeping at youtube pics of births. Kind of ridiculous, and it just makes me feel worse because I'm in a worry myself because my tummy seems to have shrunk and I have no pregnancy symptoms today, so fearing the worst. We are our own worst enemies! I really hope the spotting stops, that the amniotic sac starts looking good, and that at your next scan everything will be okay. Keep us posted won't you? And please take care and rest as much as you can. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

somethingwittynot · 10/08/2012 17:26

sorry all ive been away DP has been in hospital they thought he had a stroke but turns out its a disk in his back. im 11+1 today and have been feeling this ickle baby flutters Grin scan in ten days ill be 12+4 :)

tiredteddy · 10/08/2012 17:30

child I sorry you are having such a tough time. If it offers any reassurance I had bleeding in my first pregnancy at 6 and 8 weeks. Then in my second at similar times too. Both if these started red but were quite a lot (enough to soak a pad tmi) and tailed off ti brown watery as it finished. Both times those little heartbeats were flashing on the screen. Later in my preg with ds2 at 15 weeks I had a big bleed with a a very technical name I now don't remember which was part of my placenta coning away then bleeding. That one had a hospital stay. But again all ok. I truly hope that your outcome will be like mine and your little bean will stuck around. I will be thinking of you too. Best wishes and hugs x

WingDefence · 10/08/2012 20:35

Oh gosh Child I'm thinking and praying for you. Not sure what to say really apart from I know you'll be given the strength to get through this, whatever happens :(

We've been in Central London all day with my DBro and his family and it was great but I've got a terrible headache and I'm exhausted. I thought I had some v slight spotting when we were in the restaurant having tea so that hasn't helped either. And we didn't bring any paracetamol down with us, only ibuprofen which I know you can't take if pg, so I'm just having to suffer with this bad, bad head.

Not as bad as what Child's going through though :(

tiredteddy · 11/08/2012 15:05

How's everyone today?

How's the headache wing ?
How are you doing child ?
Glad you DH is ok something I missed your post yesterday x

WingDefence · 11/08/2012 21:04

Yes Something glad DP is okay - sorry I forgot to say yesterday :(

Child, hope today has been better for you too.

I managed to find some paracetamol after all last night as I was desperate. Miraculously they actually worked - normally only cocodamol or ibuprofen work for me.

I don't think I did have spotting yesterday but I was feeling so rotten and was paranoid that my CM had changed colour, which it had, but I was reading too much into it (I hope).

I have been feeling twinges for a day or so as well but not cramps exactly so I'm trying not to think about that either.

Got home tonight to find a booking in appt scheduled for Monday 3rd at lunchtime in the hospital. I can't make the date anyway as we're hoping to go away for a couple of days but the midwife told me they were held on Friday mornings in the local centre - 10 mins away instead of half hour in the middle of my work day when it's too early to tell work I'm pg to take the time off!

I'm a bit miffed and will be on the phone to change it first thing on Monday!

tiredteddy · 11/08/2012 21:23

Hi wing glad the headache got better. I never bother with paracetemol as they don't touch my headaches but it's all we can have now! Rubbish. Glad you ate more confident about the spotting. I also found in the first 10 weeks that I had mire twinges aches and jiggles than I ever recalled in previous pregnancies. They did wear off though or I would never stop worrying!

I got some rather nasty sun burn yesterday. I feel really embarrassed actually as there is no excuse. I just forgot to cream up properly. I am scarlet and it hurts! Blush

somethingwittynot · 12/08/2012 19:00

doing some research on 4D scans Grin

WingDefence · 12/08/2012 19:35

Evening all :)

Tired how's the sunburn? Ouch!!!

Something, remind me what one of those is? I understand a 3D scan is the sort of all-round 'picture' of the baby but what's the 4D?

Still thinking of you Child.

somethingwittynot · 12/08/2012 19:41

its like a moving picture of the baby and you can see the features and fat haha! in getting mine around 28 weeks

WingDefence · 12/08/2012 19:57

Oh it's moving! Wow, never heard of one of those. You'll have to share it when you get it done ;)

tiredteddy · 12/08/2012 20:24

Hi all!

Sunburn still painful but a bit less bright, I've been well covered up since!

4D scan sounds exciting.

ChildOfThe1980s · 12/08/2012 21:35

Thank you guys. The spotting got more yesterday but I've had none today- woohoo! This does make me feel more positive although I know that the sac is the main problem.

I had a 4D scan with my first preg, and it's fab. I would recommend it to anyone who can afford it.

Silly tiredteddy though I can understand you wanting to make the most of the sun. :)

tiredteddy · 13/08/2012 12:01

Hi child I'm glad yesterday was better for you I still have everything crossed for you. Do you have scan booked for this week at an epu? I can't remember. Thinking of you still.

Well I'm home from the seaside and DH is back to work. My mission for the next two Weeks is to de-clutter my home. EEK! I really need to make some space. A lot toys and clothes sorting is going to happen.

WingDefence · 13/08/2012 17:15

Good luck with that Tired!

I got onto the EPU this morning and rearranged my booking appt for the 31st Aug, 9am in my nearest town. So much better - why couldn't they have done that in the first place? Grin

Really trying hard not to look at the top names list in any detail. DS has a really unusual first name (poor bloomin thing!) which shortens really well to a slightly more 'normal' name but it's going to be hard to match. I already have a feeling this little tiny chickpea is a girl and I got it right with DS. That'll be my fault for wanting another boy this time round!

Last time I really wanted a girl and we found out the sex because I was worried that if it were a boy I would reject it in some weird post-birth hormonal fit. I did sort of 'mourn' the fact I was having a boy for a week or so but at the time I thought that was better than doing it after the birth (what I was so worried about). But I love DS so much and boys are so simple, relatively, that I'd love another DS now. I was a tomboy and I love footy, trains, playing with cars etc that I wouldn't have a clue what to do with a girl.

But that's why I really think this is going to be a girl! We'll find out again (God willing we get to that stage of course). I don't understand why people go for surprises Wink

tiredteddy · 13/08/2012 17:47

Hi wing good news about that appointment. That makes it a lot easier for you I think. I am having midwife led care at the local doctors surgery which is really convenient but she did insist on putting me down as high risk due to the operation I had last November (mastectomy+ recon) as she thinks the consultant should be aware of my case. Not really sure why I am guessing it may because of the GA relatively recently? It doesn't seem very relevant otherwise though only regarding how I'll be feeding dc3 as that will be a different kettle of fish for me!

I had two surprises so far and both DS's! I'm kind of only able to imagine another DS when thinking of names and have a couple of favourites so far. Ds1 is max 8 (about 20 on the stats list now) and ds2 is Toby 4.8 (about 50 on the list) both names more popular than when I chose them. Great reading though those lists are! I think I want to find out this time just so I know and DH but we won't tell anyone else I don't think as GP's don't want to know. Did you keep it to yourselves or share the news?

WingDefence · 13/08/2012 18:54

I love both of those names Tired. In fact Tobias (shortened to Toby of course) was high up on the list. I can't say DS's name on here as it really is that unusual and I want to keep vaguely anonymous! All I'll say is it begins with a Z (and isn't Ziggy - that's the name of our cat though Grin )

Ouch to the mastectomy. I can't imagine what that must have been like :(

mandasand · 13/08/2012 19:01

hello ladies!

hey, sorry to hear about your op last year, tired. hope things are v.g. on that front now.

DH wants to keep the sex a surprise and am happy with that. But we need 4 names! (Two of each!) I really want at least one boy, as in my experience boys are so loving and perhaps more so than girls, I've heard. We're roughly agreed on top girl and boy names, and I've been compiling lists of other ones. I want either formal names that shorten to something cutesy (Elizabeth to Betsy, except I dislike the royal connection of the former) or something random (Finn, Ruby). Neither of us are religious and I'm big on etymology, so I'm concerned about choosing biblical names tho DH cares not a jot about such things! (I'm a language and literature background and he's an engineer, can't you tell!) I'm convinced that the chosen names should have same number of syllables (DH thinks this is weird - but I can explain it!)

somethingwittynot · 13/08/2012 19:12

DS is a zachary and this bean will be willow for a DD and isaac for another DS.

so ive chosrn my scan package and i get a wellbeing scan at 16+weeks an anomly scan at 22+ and then a 4D at 28-32 weeks with pictures CDs of pictures and a DVD all for £200

tiredteddy · 13/08/2012 19:28

Ooh we are busy tonight how nice! Yes all good thanks wing and manda now I discovered I carried the BRCA1 gene early last year which basically means that my risk of developing breast cancer was 90% so pretty much a dead cert! We had genetic counselling and many meetings with surgeons who advised preventative surgery as the best option. This was because the younger you are the quicker you heal/ better result you get, my risk is now less than that of the general population, the result are also better without the chemo and illness. It was a complicated journey and a hard choice but I did for my boys future and our family. Our reward to ourselves is trying for dc3 so it's my happy year this year!

something Zack is what my boys want to call a DS! Fab name!

I get the thins manda about syllables, I'm obsessed with my own set of rules about names. I like to think about how siblings names sound together. So I have max and Toby and would choose a 1 syllable or 3 syllable name for dc3 for them to flow nicely together. I also wouldn't choose something with an "y" ending as it would be too similar to Toby and make max seem like the odd one out. So there's my mad rules! Ha ha. Any ideas?

WingDefence · 13/08/2012 19:43

Well DS is shortened to Zac too (it is a fab name) but I'm now giving you the rest of it Grin

Manda that's a complicated set of rules but I'm sure you'll find the answer :) Something, love those choices! And I've never heard of these scan packages. I only really thought of having the NHS one but I tell you what, I do wish I could have a scan now to make sure all is well. Waiting until 11/12 weeks is rubbish.

Tired that's sounds like such a hard choice but you've obviously made the right one. Was it a double op? I'm assuming that means you have no milk production capability so don't need to worry about the milk coming in once the baby arrives?

I miss not having any Olympics on the tv!
