oh, yes, my biggest (and actually, only) tip so far is this:

Drink drink drink drink drink drink
everythign you can, but especially water. whether you feel thirsty or not.
It really helped during labour, and it really helped when I was in the hospital, and it really really helped with the post-birth weeing.
there was only one wee that i've had that stung (and bear in mind I had stitches too, which sting when I move funny), was the first after we got home, when it had been just over an hour since I'd had a drink.
I keep a jug of water by my bedside, and DH fills it often (and i fill it too)
I'm probably having 2 or 3 glasses an hour.
(including juice and milk)

nickelhadababyYesLord · 15/12/2011 17:49

thanks fanjo - We have to smooth olive oil into herdry skin, and everytime we do, I say that we're basting her so that we can roast her in the oven and eat her, cos she's so delicious Xmas BlushXmas Grin

PrincessSugarPlum · 15/12/2011 19:54

That was an amazing birth story, Nickel - has put me off a little bit though, so not sure I'll be bothering, thank you very much Grin

I commented on your other thread - my mum is Eleanor and her sister is Katherine! It's really funny to see you've chosen both of their names (there are only the 2 of them). Lovely.....but do you call her Eleanor or Isbn?!

fanjo - I was pleased for a June due date - I'm in early July and always love that time of year for my birthday - perfectly placed in the middle of the year! All my family have been late having their babies, so am sure that this will be a July bub too.

Just spotted your name change nickel - both festive and applicable! Love it!! Xmas Smile

MightilyChristmassyOats · 17/12/2011 19:09

Just surfaced from a busy week to say an extra congrats to Nickel Xmas Grin you had us all gripped that's for sure! Glad it all went well in the end, I was worried about you...

My biggest warning/tip thingy is that sometime, in the next week/two weeks or so you may find that you suddenly can't get warm, have a raging temperature and feel like you are dying. Apparently this is normal... they just don't tell you about it - I ended up ringing emergency out of hours docs as DP and on-call MW were so worried. Apparently its the drop in oestrogen - take ibuprofen and it all goes away a lot quicker Xmas Wink

Happy snuggling!

cowboylover · 17/12/2011 22:30

Checked back for Nickel... Yeh!

Nice to see more grads, hello all! will check back again soon.

nickelhadababyYesLord · 20/12/2011 20:30

we're calling her Eleanor - I did try Isbn yesterday, but that seems like such a long time ago!!
I might call her Isbn on here, but I quite like using DD Xmas Grin

I don't like the sound of that, Katee - I'm glad you mentioned it, though, because I was well worried about not having the flu jab.

So, I'm a Post-grad now, am I? Xmas Grin
I like that.

Right, have been on MN too long today, must go and check to see if DD Xmas Grin is still alive.
She must want feeding again!

PrincessClementine · 31/12/2011 19:54

All quiet over here. Any one still just a graduate?

Happy new year to anyone who is there still!! Grin

BamBam21 · 10/01/2012 12:12

Hi people, and happy new year!Wine I've not been on for AGES (got caught up with nickel's birth thread, and then all the festive gubbins at home) but DS is back to school today, and I am so enjoying the quietness!Smile

Hope all is fine with you and wee Eleanor nickel.

36wks exactly today, and getting a bit bored now. I've had a couple of episodes when I've thought something has been happening, but nothing so far. Just very bad period-y feelings and backache. And piles.Sad

Where are you now on the fruit scale princess?Grin It's amazing how much happens in these 40 weeks, isn't it?

nickelhasababy · 12/01/2012 18:05

I've got some newborn size clothes, if either of you want some.
Princess - I've got your address to send the tens machine to, do yo uwant some of these if i'm sending you a packet anyway?

Bam - you're welcome to some of them, too.
I've got mostly white flavour, a couple of bright coloured patterns and a couple pink flavour.
Let me know what flavour you want, and I'll send.
:)

BamBam21 · 13/01/2012 19:34

Aw, that's really kind of you nickel. Thanks I think I probably have enough first size stuff though. Mostly white/cream flavour here, as we aren't totally convinced by the sonographer at our 20wk scan thinking we're having a boy! I'm sure she was right, and we have some wee boy sleepsuits etc, but the wee willy that she pointed to on the screen just didn't look attached to the rest of the body (!) and she said she wasn't totally certain.Grin

I really hope you, DH and Eleanor are doing fine nickel.

PrincessApple · 13/01/2012 21:40

Ooo..hello!! Long time no see. nickel hope all is well with you and isbn. A month now! Have you settled into things a bit? Won't say no to anything you fancy sending my way! That's really kind of you.

Bam good to know you're still here, and for the next few weeks at least! It must be quite tense, always wondering if a twinge means something. Have you everything.ready?

My baby is actually bigger than an Apple. I was going to be PrincessAvocado. But had a scan on Wed and it is 12cm. Which seems a pretty big avocado to me? Any suggestions?

Our Downs result came back high risk...nuchal fold of 3.1. So we were offered CVS, but declined due to miscarriage risk. Instead we went to the fetal medicine.centre in London to see Prof Nicolaides. We had a scan (16 wks) and he saw no abnormalities. No soft markers, so we're reassured. :) it was a tough couple of weeks waiting.

A doctor did the scan and talked us through it all. At the end we asked about gender and she asked us, whilst she had a shot of between the legs. It looked like a boy and she agreed! But then the Prof looked and disagreed. He said that was a cliterus (sp?) and it was a girl! So 50:50!! Hopefully.it will be clearer, and better developed at the 20wk scan!

Funny at yours not being connected bam!

BamBam21 · 14/01/2012 10:43

Hi Princess. Sounds like you had quite a tense time there, with the nuchal scanning. So glad you managed to get some reassurance though.Smile We opted not to have the nuchal scan, as it seemed a bit pointless to possible create a lot of worry for ourselves, when we knew that we wouldn't want to risk CVS or amnio. I sometimes regret the decision, but I know we will love our baby whatever happens, and we have no reason to think there could be any problems.

Would a grapefruit be about 12cm? Or a mango??Confused

I'm sure you will get a better view of baby's "bits" at the 20wk scan! Our Bean was just lying a bit awkwardly to see, but honestly, I've seen scan pictures of boys before, and I'm not at all convinced! I know I had a wobbly when I first found out they thought it was a boy, but I'm over that now and working on the assumption that that is what we are having, but I'm just not convinced!ConfusedGrin

My main concern just now is that at my last MW appt, she thought the baby was lying back to back. I really don't think I will go full term (no reason, just the way I feel and because this is my second) and I really hope Bean turns around before anything happens. Also, I've been cleaning like mad the last few days (normally a total slattern) so maybe things will happen soon!!Grin

nickelhasababy · 14/01/2012 11:17

oh, that sounds hard Princess :(
I'll send you some bits and bobs.
:)

Bam - mine was lying funny all the way through - preferred an almost-back-to-back position.
You have to spend lots of time either on all fours or on your ball - whatever you do don't sit on the settee! (we were told this at our antenatal classes, and it's so true!)

BamBam21 · 14/01/2012 11:39

Hi nickel. I spent a good bit of yesterday on all fours cleaning the floor, so that might have helped!Grin I also sit on my ball sometimes, as the settee just doesn't feel comfy these days. I don't think it helps that with second babies, they don't engage until labour actually starts, so he might just keep turning round again.

DP took DS for a haircut this morning, and they just phoned. DS told me he was glad his hair was cut now, because it had got too long and was a "ruddy nightmare"!!Grin

PrincessMango · 15/01/2012 16:18

After wandering round Tesco fruit.section, I decided mango was about right!

Fingers crossed the baby turns in time for you bam. What kind of birth are you planning? I told my DH about the nesting thing...he is v keen for it to kick in! I did say it's not yet! Maybe I should've kept quiet, he'll be getting his hopes up that I'll stop being lazy!

I'm growing a baby, as I keep telling him!

Booked our final holiday together just the 2 of us. A week in Egypt at end of Feb. I'll be 22 weeks. Can't wait! Sun!!

FeijoaVodkaPlease · 15/01/2012 18:17

Just incase you've all forgotten where the post grads are cause we'd love all of you to come visit ;)

(PS I'm confessions, just decided on a new name to put last year behind me)

BamBam21 · 16/01/2012 11:25

Love the new name Princess! Grin at you wandering round the fruit section in the supermarket trying to decide though!Grin

My nesting has tailed off a bit again as I just feel so tired. DP was getting worried and keeps telling me just to sit down!Smile I do need to get the hoover out though, as DS wore his wellies this morning and loads of dried mud fell off the bottom of them! It's lying in a lovely pile by the front door, and through to the bathroom! I also have the HV coming to visit on Wednesday morning, so I need to get the place presentable. Nearly done with the decorating though, and then we can get cleaned/tidied up.

I am doing the "wait and see" approach about the actual birth TBH. With DS, labour lasted about 30 hours, I was exhausted, and I seemed to spend most of my time lying on the bed in hospital. No tears or cuts though, which was good. This time, I'm hoping it will be faster, and I plan to try to stay active for longer. Instinctively I feel that I want to be kneeling to give birth, but we'll see. My only big no-no is for an epidural. I just hate the thought of it, but again we'll just have to wait and see.Smile

nickelhasababy · 16/01/2012 11:27

golly, i've not been on Just Mumming since the birth! it dropped off my active convos Blush

Princess - am making your parcel tonight, so you'll get it as soon as i can be bothered to go to the post office send DH off to post it Grin

nickelhasababy · 16/01/2012 11:28

My birth went pretty much to plan, really - apart from the episiotomy cos she got stuck and PPH, but you can't have everything! I did have a flexible plan, though - I had put that I would prefer a tear, but then, that was in normal circumstances - didn't expect her to get stuck! Grin

PrincessMango · 24/01/2012 18:19

Ha ha ha ha ha Nickel!!!! There was a card through the door, saying the Post Office have a parcel....for Princess Watermelon!!! I laughed so much, I couldn't explain to my DH what it was all about! I'm still not sure he got it, mind you!

Thank you so much for sending me the parcel. I hope I can get in at the weekend to pick it up.

Hope everyone is well - this dropped off my active convos too.

Off for aquafit tonight. SO don't feel like going, but never do when it comes to exercise. If I didn't work, maybe I'd have more energy for it. But hope it'll ease my back. Been struggling with back ache already.

crowette · 25/01/2012 09:45

After 18 months and a MC, I got my BFP a week ago!! Was a bit concerned as it was a bit faint and the CBD said 1-2 weeks, when I was expecting higher. had pinkish discharge on Thursday which sent me into a panic, but all has been well since and I got a 2-3 weeks on the CBD on Monday. By my LMP I'm 6+2 weeks. I'm trying to register at the local doctors, but it's such a palaver, I have no idea when I'll get to see a midwife, and the receptionist told me I'd not need to see the doctor, I'd get referred straight to a midwife for a home visit. Ho hum.

So only now am I feeling more confident about posting on this grads thread Blush

Symptoms - very heavy and tender boobs, they're large anyway and although I don't think they've grown much, they're definitely more dense! Very concentrated wee first thing in the morning, trying to drink more water without the need to go to the loo every 30 mins in the night Confused I can't type for toffee - I'm hitting the wrong keys all the time. Strange dreams - the night before last I dreamt I was farting loads and OH was trying to stop me by 'corking me up' and I was trying to fight him off, I was laughing so much as he was trying to do so, but I was also actually really laughing in my sleep! It woke OH up and he asked me what I was laughing at, real belly laughs Confused he thought it was hilarious!

I get knackered by early afternoon, which is a pain as my shifts at work are 12-6pm and it's a physical job.

So yup, that's it - no sickness or anything else at the moment.

Hope everyone is well?

nickelhasababy · 25/01/2012 10:29

Haha! Grin
I couldn't remember your real name (or indeed if I knew it in the first place!)
and you're not quite a watermelon yet.... Wink

ooh, well done crow - good JSing there.
Fingers crossed it's all sticky and lovely and multiplying and growing. xx

crowette · 25/01/2012 10:41

Thank you! Funnily enough we only JSd once this cycle, due to overwork and having mostly given up hoping anything would happen, and that was xmas eve morning. I must have ovulated xmas or boxing day thereabouts. So quite a surprise! Had also been drinking loads of wine in the week before my BFP, as I had my friend staying for the week and thought the cramps I was getting was AF ... must have been implantation!

nickelhasababy · 25/01/2012 13:44
Grin always the way Grin
PrincessMango · 25/01/2012 15:37

Yay!!! crow that's wonderful news! Isn't it so exciting! Your symptoms sound v similar to mine at that stage. The sickness will come v soon! It is normal to just see a midwife at home...about 8-10 weeks. Although I saw the doc he didn't do anything other than say congrats and give me a flu jab (I'm asthmatic as well).

Glad you've joined us over here...I'm 17+6 now, and was the youngest viroid grad over here! You can now pick up the baton. Have you posted on the old thread? nelly and josie are still there, I think and could do with some good news.
