I think I'm the first to find this out. Am 5 wks pg and an EDD of 10th August, Anyone else wanna join me?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
purpleturtle · 12/01/2006 14:59

Right. I got into gear this morning and managed to persuade the new practice to register me (against the rules!) and to make me an appointment straight away (against the rules!) so I'll be seeing the doctor on Tuesday afternoon.

Strike1 · 12/01/2006 16:41

Good work PurpleT!! It's good to get the ball rolling, you don't want to end up not getting into your local hospital, my doctor said that Kingston, the nearest to me, gets booked up so early that some people end up miles away!

Thanks for the reassurance Kitegirl, hope your scan goes well tomorrow.

I don't want to start yet another food in pregnancy thread, but I've just bought a bean salad from M&S and I'm worried about the whole "don't eat anything from a deli counter" thing. Do you think M&S pasta and bean salads count? It looks soooo nice, but I don't want to risk it if it could be bad....thoughts?

Arabica · 12/01/2006 18:02

What's wrong with deli counter food? I thought you just had to avoid mayonnaise which might be made with raw eggs (unlikely unless it's the home-made sort) and pate???

Strike1 · 12/01/2006 18:08

I think it's because of chill counter stuff being more dangerous for lysteria, but I don't know about packet supermarket stuff.

Arabica · 12/01/2006 18:12

food advice that I am following

Act · 12/01/2006 18:39

Hello, may I join in?
Have only recently found mumsnet as am pregnant for the first time.
My EDD is August 2nd...having read this thread (took a while!) it seems this is a popular date.
My first u/s is tomorrow and I can't wait to see if there really is a baby in there!

Strike1 · 12/01/2006 18:44

Welcome Act! Congratulations

Act · 12/01/2006 18:51

re the bean salad, here's my 2 cents worth:
I would eat it! I've also read the suggestion to avoid deli counter food, you don't see it everywhere so it could be considered a bit OTT?

My guess at the reasoning behind it is that deli counter food is a higher risk for food poisoning as it is exposed - potentially to the servers unclean hands and sneezes etc - and also might not be kept adequately chilled. A packet salad on the other hand will have been prepared and sealed under sterile food-factory conditions (probably cleaner than my kitchen at least) and you would be really unlikely to have a problem. Especially considering M&S have quite a reputation to protect.

Act · 12/01/2006 18:54

thx Strike1!
crossed message -I r a slow typer

purpleturtle · 12/01/2006 18:57

Hello Act!

Bean salad - eat it!
I am VERY relaxed about all the food advice stuff. I have a drink if I feel like it, I still eat peanuts, even a very occasional sliver of Brie . I am avoiding liver, pate, and excess soft cheese, but tbh it wouldn't even cross my mind to question a salad.

kitegirl · 12/01/2006 19:07

Congratulations Act and welcome to the board!

re: food, I am avoiding unpasteurised dairy, caffeine and tuna (mercury), but to balance it out and not to be too virtuous I am eating raw sushi and gravadlax (I am Finnish and they don't tell women to avoid raw fish in Finland!) and having one, maybe two, small glasses of wine a week. Cannot BEAR to be even near eggs in any form so that's easy! I wish I could be a bit more disciplined with regards to sugar, am really ploughing through that Christmas box of Cadbury's Heroes. except that have eaten all my favourites now sigh

Arabica · 13/01/2006 11:56

Hi Act! I am also due on 2/8 and my scan is next Weds. Hope you enjoy yours today.
I usually a sushi lover but can't handle it at the moment! I'm loving anything with potatoes but trying to stay away from chips. Still putting on loads of weight though and only just fastened jeans this morning. Have actually ordered a pair of maternity jeans even though I said I would wait for the scan first.

Act · 13/01/2006 19:25

thanks for the welcomes!
Had my scan and booking visit today. It was amazing to see the baby moving around, it had such skinny little frog legs!
An odd thing happened though, the sonographer identified a second fetus with no heartbeat that measured only 7 weeks. She said that it had started out as a twin pregnancy and that one had failed. It was a fraternal twin. She had to bring in another sonographer to confirm it (policy) and then they showed me the normal, healthy baby again. It measured very close to my expected date (around 11 weeks).
I feel a bit sad I think, at least it has taken away some of the excitement I thought I would feel after seeing the baby, but the midwife and registrar said there shouldn't be any impact on the outcome of my pregnancy...

Arabica · 13/01/2006 21:11

Act, I feel both sad and happy for you--it must have been a shock to find out it used to be twins in there.
Am very glad to hear that one little frog is happily swimming around though. I wonder if that's what mine will look like. Last time it was more like a teddy bear. I'm not feeling 100% confident at the moment as I am having lots of slight period pain style cramps. I'm finding it so hard to trust there really is a thriving baby in there.

Nbg · 13/01/2006 21:52

Hi everyone, I'm back from sunny Watford!

Glad to hear your all doing well (although I know the morning sickness gang won't feel like that but it's all good!)

Welcome Act and congrtulations

Kitegirl, I'll back up that water tight theory How was the scan? Did your dh gush ?

I have been doing pretty well my only trigger for sickness is not eating regularly although like some of you the thoughts of certain foods is makes me feel a bit quesey.

I've also got my 12 week scan date. It's on the 30th of this month but am having bloods and seeing a Dr all in one big appt so I'll be there for hours!

lunavix · 13/01/2006 21:57

Hi everyone, sorry to hear about the lost baby act but apparently it isn't too uncommon.. just think about the happy one

I've heard about the deli thing... but it rules out salads, prepared fruit, baguettes from the sandwich shop.. and any food that's kept warm (eg a lot of takeaway!) so I don't think so lol! I'm being careful but while I feel so sick I eat something if I fancy it lol!

8 weeks tomorrow...

kitegirl · 14/01/2006 06:35

Act sorry to hear about your lost baby. As said, it does happen but at least your pregnancy is progressing well, hope you are not feeling too sad.

nbg welcome back, we've missed you, glad you got back home ok! scan went well, dh finally believes I am pregnant. 9 weeks, the baby measures 2.96 centimetres, and we could see two little stumps that are going to be her arms. So, if the baby is that tiny why can't I button my jeans

ds is waking up and dh was out on the lash last night so no hope seeing any signs of life there soon... have a good weekend everyone

Nbg · 14/01/2006 10:49

Sorry to hear about the twin Act.

It must be quite a shock to hear that but you still have a gowing baby in there.

Keep your chin up

Dh has lovingly invited my family down for a big sunday dinner tomorrow and I am soooooo not looking forward to cooking it or smelling it!

olivo · 14/01/2006 13:01

Hi everyone!
Act, sorry to hear that - hope you are ok.
How is everyone feeling today? My nausea seems to have shifted to late afternoons and evenings this week - partly good as I feel generally ok at work (and havent had to tell anyone yet!)but as soon as I come home , I'm wiped out!
I have total repsect for all of you who already have children - I am looking after my youngest nephew ( 7 months) for a few hours, and have to admit that the smell of his 'creamed vegetables' did make my stomach turn! he's now lying asleep on a blanket and looking totally adorable though, so I'm contentedly rubbing my own bloated tummy and cant wait for August!I'm only 8 wks today!!
hope you all have a good weekend.x

purpleturtle · 14/01/2006 13:10

Sorry to hear your sad news Act. I can't imagine how I would feel in your situation.

We're all exhausted in our house! Dd started school on Tuesday, and it's been a bit of a shock to the system getting up and out of the house in the morning after 6 months of doing as we please. Ds isn't too impressed that his playmate is out all day long either. Have had some pretty impressive tantrums at teatime the last couple of days.

Hope you survive Sunday lunch, nbg!

Arabica · 14/01/2006 22:46

purplet, my DS just started school too! It's such a big change and I felt very emotional about it all, not helped by the hormones!

freddysays · 14/01/2006 22:50

Hi there every1 I dropped off the radar for a bit didnt have much to contribute but am at home alone tonite dp out enjoying the normal life. I am so tired could have went too but feel rough and I look so pregnant even though only 11weeks. Not sure why this is but I feel a bit embarressed about looking so pregnant so early on. I think it is a hang over from my last pg when everyone always told me how big I was and how they had friends who were same weeks pg as me but "were much smaller" which was prob true!!
I have a bit of a complex starting which is stupid I know. Its not helped by wanting to eat all day long and feeling totally lethargic so nto exercising enough. IT was the same last time and yes I was pretty big but whats a girl to do. I had a big healthy baby at the end of it. I was more happy then than I am now though. Which is really annoying and even vain. Anyone got any advice.

By the way I am not as goo das some of you at checking the site but if you do post some words to me I will read them so thanks in advance.

Got my scan next week on Wed so thats cool too eh!

trix1 · 14/01/2006 23:35

Good to hear from you Freddie, whats your due date then early Aug? Im almost 10 weeks due 15th Aug. Just want the next couple of weeks to pass quickly.
I know what you mean about being too tired to go out, I seemed to have much more energy when pregnant with DS.

freddysays · 15/01/2006 09:44

HI trix1 I my due date is bit vauge but the last date I was given was 1/8 I have a scan on Wed so hope to get actual date then. Looking forward to that.

Feel a bit better this morning but had a rough night. Strange how powerful the hormones are really they take over your whole body and mind dont they?

trix1 · 15/01/2006 11:28

The last couple of days I have not been sick in the morning although I have felt sick in the evenings. I do worry when I dont have my symptoms as it was around this time when I had my last missed m/c (I think between 10 and 13 weeks) although i did not know until 13 1/2 weeks at the scan. I think I will request another scan this week to put my mind at rest and then I have my booking in scan on the 2nd Feb.
