Hello all
Thank you Moosy for passing on my news. And as you say it was far from ideal but at least we are both home now. DD is beautiful all be it a night owl who refuses to sleep while the moon it out..........
Birth was horific and I am very battered but thought I woud share my story with you.
I was asked to go to anti natal ward at 8am on the 11/11/11 for induction as they were worried that babies head was still unstable and I was a week overdue. I arrived and got a bed straight away only to be told that the dr were unhappy to induce me on the ward and that it would need to be done on labour ward under controlled conditions in case my waters broke as the trace showed the cord was laying very close to the head. So we waited until 5 pm to be told they were ready for me.
I had the pesery put in and had to wait for an hour in labour ward while they did another trace. Finally sent back to AN ward at 9 o clock with the instruction that if my waters went I was to press emergancy cord and get on all fours with my bum in the air...
Mark went home and I was happily contracting through the early hours. I couldn't sleep but they were not strong enought to need pain relief. At 5 in the norning I got out of bed to go to the toilet but as I stood up my waters went. Did as I was told and the room was soon filled with lots of people peering at my bits trying to decide what to do as head was still not in pelvic and was unstable meaning cord could desend at any time. It was decided I was to be taken to delivery and put on drip while being constantly monitored and on constant trace (strapped to the bed again grrrrrrr). I was put on the drip at 6 o clock and Mark arrived. I was still just breathing through contractions and was 5 cm by this time. At 10 o clock the drip was turned up as my contractions were now very regular but not moving the head down at all I then also went on gas and air. At 12 o clock I was ready to push but the head was still no where to be seen so had to try not to push which I couldn't do so the drip was turned up again. At 1 oclock I had managed to get the head into the pelvic and mw could feel it but after every contraction it would retreat again at this point the fluid had turned green and baby was in distress with lots of decelerations on the trace. Unfortunatly there were 5 other emergancies in the department so we were assessed (blood taken from babies head while in pelvis and o2 levels taken) as being lower risk than some of the other ladies so I was left to try on my own for a little longer. At one point we thought we had it but alas she went back further than before. MW called time on my attempts at 15.00 and said I needed a section as she was failing to proceed. Luckily for me (or unlucky which ever way you look at it) registrar that came wanted to try forcepts first but we didn't have time to do eppidural at this point (I was determined to do it with out so had just had gas and air) so proceded with forcepts delivery using just gas and air. Ouch bloody ouch. I had to have episiotomy but also tore the other way as well. But at last after two huge pushes she was out.
However she wasn't breathing so had to be resusitated and was then taken (along with daddy) to special care where they drained her lungs and checked all tubes leading to her tummy were in order. At 9lb 3oz she looked like the mother to all the other littlies in scu. :( !! I was stitched up and taken to pn ward while I waited for news. Both Mark and baby arived later that day and all seemed well. Baby was put on hourly obs due to level of fluid and the fact she had meconium during labour. The next day she was rushed back to scu as she was gray and not breathing properally and was panting from her tummy (something begining with T but cant remember what it was) I went with her this time and a tube was placed into her lungs and a chest xray was done (at a day old :( ) also o2 levels checked. After several hours on a machine we were finally given the all clear. We are both at home now recovering from it all. Baby bump has to go back once a week for the next month to check progress but only as an out patient so that is good.
I am just entering the baby blues stage and so feeling very raw and emotional at the moment but happy to be home with my beautiful girl - who weighted in at a 9lb 3oz.... I still have to wee in the bath and a poo is the thing of nightmares to me
