Like all direct-marketing workers, Bounty women (it's always women!) are just trying to put bread on the table so I have a shred of sympathy... But agree it can be very intrusive at a vulnerable time for us. I was heckled for photos with DD1 (in hospital for 5 days post-birth) and just kept saying no.
With DD2 went for an early discharge (had baby 9pm, out 11am after the baby check) so managed to avoid!

Actually, the bounty pack did use to have one GREAT freebie- a teeny travel sized pot of sudacrem, you could refil it and it was the perfect size for a changing bag. We used cloth nappies so a dab of barrier cream was vital and not having to lug a huge pot around made the baby bag lighter! And one of mine had a cute newborn hat, which I'd forgotten to get.

Mmmmcheese · 23/08/2011 11:29

i think the main problem with this bounty thing is that they are paying the NHS to have access onto the wards. it seems very unethical. Bounty is a private limited company, not a charity or anything, so imagine if the NHS started letting other private companies access to wards to sell things and make money from new mothers in a vulnerable position.

I don't mind the free packs, which you can choose to take or not (and i just throw away the marketing bumpf) but having a representative of a private company on a ward simply in order to make money for that company seems wrong to me.

sevensevenseven · 23/08/2011 12:20

msbuggy great to hear your grandad is feeding himself, sounds like he's making great progress

I can't say I'm too bothered about the bounty woman tbh, although I agree it is wrong that the NHS allows them to pay for access rights to maternity wards just to flog over-priced photos, when security is normally so strict.

OiMissus · 23/08/2011 20:45

Evening all, great news about your granddad msbuggy - I hope he continues to make good progress. Our old folk are made of resilient stuff!
I read the article about the photographers and was shocked. I too plan to tell DH to protect vulnerable me in that situation. Anyway, I want to wait until i'm cleaner/smarter/ less red and sweaty post-birth before I commission any professional photos!!!! I guess the private family shots are unavoidable - but no one looks their best in a hospital bed, let's face it!

sevensevenseven · 23/08/2011 21:14

Is anyone else starting to find bending over more difficult?

I'm really looking forward to DH painting the nursery tomorrow, then getting the furniture built and starting to wash baby clothes. I'm starting to panic about how quickly time's going, I'm hoping getting the nursery organised will calm me down.

OiMissus · 23/08/2011 21:32

Bending over is such hard work! Tying shoelaces - arghhh! And my bump seems to have doubled in size this evening - does heat do that? It's above 30 degrees here and stifling, looking forward to getting home tomorrow night. And - big news - we have 3 separate people coming to view the house on Thursday night!!!! So maybe there's still a chance that we'll get to decorate a new nursery before December! fingers crossed! I so want to get nesting!!!

figgygal · 23/08/2011 21:35

Yip shaving legs or painting toenails def not as easy as it used to be. Was supposed to swim tonight in my new cossie but an full of cold so gonna leap around to just dance on the wii for half hour instead its still getting the heart rate up so counts as exercise doesn't it Grin

OiMissus · 23/08/2011 21:44

"leaping around" figgy - makes me feel tired just reading that!!

figgygal · 23/08/2011 22:04

Leaping around may have been a bit ambitious flailing out of time with the music may be a tad more accurate. Love it though just saw a track lusting for just dance 3 gonna have to get that for post baby activity

sevensevenseven · 23/08/2011 22:55

Great news about your viewers oimissus, hopefully one of them will want it! Above 30 degrees sounds unbearable, for once I'm thankful we're having a crap summer.

Awomancalledhorse · 23/08/2011 23:26

Three people in one night? Yay! Hope they're all interested & start a bidding war Grin

Looking forward to my (hopefully) home birth even more now having read about Bounty women Shock

I can't bend over, DH is on leg shaving duties Grin

BeeMyBaby · 24/08/2011 06:42

I loved getting bounty stuff, I got a muslin, baby cream and one or two other things that I thought were great, oddly enough in the 6month bag I got a can of caffeine free coke (I wondered if they thought that as DD was weaned she should now start the fizzy drinks), but hey ho...

I'm also finding bending over difficult, and when I decided to bend from my chair at work (being oh so lazy now) I pulled a muscle in my bump on Monday which was stupidly painful.

DD went off with DH today for three weeks to visit his family, last time they went was in April and I was so tired at that point with foetus I was relieved, but now I'm not so tired but very hormonal and teary :( I have been crying most mornings just going off to work and leaving her at home so don't know how I'll cope, but at least it will give my tummy muscle time to heal.

msbuggywinkle · 24/08/2011 07:49

Yes, bending difficult! Having to get the DDs to sit on the stairs to help with shoes and DD1 is on picking things up from under the furniture duty!

Bee I think I'd be the same, am crying over all kinds. Mainly Dr Who, we watched the repeat of the last episode last night and I was sobbing!

Well, my Grandad had surgery at 5pm last night, was in theatre for 4 hours but was concious at midnight. You can imagine how much sleep I didn't have last night, but DP stayed up with me so I wasn't stressing on my own!

sevensevenseven · 24/08/2011 07:50

Beemybaby you must miss her like crazy, try to keep busy. Is there anything you can do to prepare for the new baby that's easier to do without her there?

AWCH your DH is very well trained

sevensevenseven · 24/08/2011 07:53

msbuggy have I missed the start of the new series of Dr Who or do you mean the end of the last series? Glad they've operated on your grandad, hopefully he'll now make a good recovery

aethelfleda · 24/08/2011 09:02

seven, I think the second half of the split-series of Doctor Who is starting this Sat, but just to be confusing, the BBC are branding it as a "new" series (possibly to take the attention off them scheduling an enormous mid-series break?)

One of my friends who's a fangeek said the reason for the split was to let them have a year when every week had something Dr Who-ey, alternating between dr who, Torchwood and Sarah Jane Adventures. Then Elisabeth Sladen died (Sarah Jane) and it all went pearshaped...

mopsytop · 24/08/2011 09:19

msbuggy hope your Grandad recovers well after surgery.

Feel so ill and dizzy this morning - nearly conked out after breakfast and had to go lie down, just got up and looked in mirror, am white as a sheet. The joys of pregnancy I guess.

msbuggywinkle · 24/08/2011 09:30

Geeky moment

seven the end of the 1st half of the current series...last episode is 'A Good Man Goes to War' The 2nd half starts of saturday. I cannot wait, I am embarrassingly in lust with Matt Smith.

aethelfleda Apparently it was to do with Dr Who having rubbish ratings over the summer, too many people on holiday etc. I have been having withdrawl symptoms that the new Torchwood just doesn't help. I miss Ianto!

HoneyLovesCake · 24/08/2011 11:02

Morning ladies! I had a dream last night that I gave birth on 8th November Shock the baby was HUGE (about 6mths old I'd guessGrin) & the midwives were awful, really negative & unhelpful...I think this may be due to me losing confidence in our community mw's after yesterdays 25wk appt.

I saw a completely different mw again, this one was cover for the mw who is cover for my lead mw Confused. She was 40 mins late because she had to travel from another area & told me that they're really short staffed which doesn't bode well for my homebirth. She seemed to think it would cheer me up to tell me that if there wasn't a mw available for my hb I don't have to go to the hospital I could always travel to the birthing centre up at St Austell; which is in North Cornwall about an hour away from me. Angry

Re: bending over - I tried to do my bikini wax yesterday...it's not pretty, my bump made it very hard to see things properly, even with lots of mirrors Blush I suppose I'm going to have to find a decent salon to get it done from now on :(

mopsytop · 24/08/2011 11:10

I don't think I will manage bikini anymore as can't see it! Think will have to go get it done. As for painting my toe nails ... not sure I can manage that. Would love to get a pedicure but they are so expensive ...

sevensevenseven · 24/08/2011 11:15

Thanks msbuggy and aethelfleda. I didn't realise it was a split series, thought I'd missed it! I still miss the gorgeous David Tennant though!

BeeMyBaby · 24/08/2011 13:36

msbuggy do you have any idea when you will get more news on your granddad?

seven was planning sorting out DD's baby clothes into female and mixed gender, will probably only take a day but nm. Might try to do more exercise while I have the time as DH felt the need to point out my tummy stretch marks last night. Does anyone know if they are white, does that mean they are just the ones from the previous pregnancy getting more obvious, or will they turn red after the birth?

honey perhaps its short staffed because they are on holidays over the summer, but maybe not so bad during the winter provided its not Christmas week you are due?

HoneyLovesCake · 24/08/2011 14:11

bee I think holidays have some part in it & sickness also, my lead mw has been away for ages, but from the sound of things they are generally under staffed. There's no excuse for it really, we're in the middle of a baby boom & more mw's are being trained than ever b4; if they haven't dealt with the problem by Dec I'll probably just dig my heels in & refuse to leave home...from what I've read online the general consensus seems to be that they will find you a mw if you're stubborn enough not to give in & leave home. Grin

lalababy · 24/08/2011 14:13

hi... i've been in hiding for a while trying to get everything with the new house sorted. It seems my boiler is less than perfect... however after all the expense so far... I might just wait for it to crash and burn before I replace it !

Baby has been kicking like crazy! I can barely concentrate at work with him constantly trying to remind me he is there! Looks like he is gonna be a serious attention seeker :)

mopsytop · 24/08/2011 15:50

Just had a hard fall onto my knees and feeling a bit worried. I didn't hurt my bump, just my knees. That should be okay right?
