Welcome to the new thread ladies!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
OiMissus · 11/08/2011 13:07

I might not get into M&P before we meet, we're now house hunting and I've made 4 appointments for the morning. I was going to say something about saving money, but buying the complete contents of M&P may still be slightly less expensive than a house.

mopsytop · 11/08/2011 13:23

What's a tommee tippee flask for?
I need new bras too grrrrrr
I had a HORRIBLE dream last night - dreamt had all these stretch marks but they were actual deep grooves in my skin and also one of my boobs was tiny and one was HUGE and all misshapen like an hour glass. Was so relieved when I woke up, immediately ran to mirror to check all was normal and it was - phew!

kri5ty · 11/08/2011 13:27

mopsy it is to carry hot water in... for the "new guidelines" on bottle feeding, you can use the hot water to make up a fresh feed wheny oure out and about (or leave it in the babys toom for night feeds so you donlt have to boil the kettle), or with the old guidelines, you fill the lid up with hot water, and place the bottle in it to heat it up

I was just going to get a thermos flask, but this will fit in my bag easier lol

That dream is horrible... but is actually what my stretch marks on my legs look like, really big grooves in my skin, i have had them since i was 13... so now i am religiously using bio oil on my tummy as i know i am prone to them :(

Awomancalledhorse · 11/08/2011 13:37

Hello ladies!!
Had a horrible sex dream last night involving Bryan Ferry, £6.99 Pavlova, a chocolate donut & a swimming pool. Confused

Kri5ty, my mother got through puberty & 4 pregnancies without a single strech mark...with all the ones I gained at 13 I've not really got much space left for new ones (although my thighs are starting to resemble an OS map), been rubbing Vit E cream everywhere!!

I've been buying (sports) bras with the weekly food shop!
Do you think a trip to one of the Mama & Papa's outlet stores is worth it?

mopsytop · 11/08/2011 13:48

AWCH that sounds too horrible to even contemplate! Poor you!
I love M&Ps, but they're not cheap, outlet store sounds like a great idea. They have lovely maternity wear as well as the baby stuff.

I haven't bought the Bio oil yet as it's so dear but after that dream I am definitely going to go and get some. I hope it wasn't a premonition of any sort ...

BeeMyBaby · 11/08/2011 13:55

Kri5ty thats a good topic - what is everyone using on the tummies to stop the stretch marks? Last time I used the palmers tummy butter but still ended up with some, I'm using dermamum this time but no idea if its going to be good - any recommendations?

mopsytop · 11/08/2011 14:10

I never heard of any except bio oil and the palmers cocoa butter for stretch marks - I got one of the latter free with a magazine and to be perfectly honest, it's just like bog standard moisturiser. I have heard good things about bio oil but, being a cheap skate, I am finding it hard to take the plunge and buy it. So I second Bee's request for tips!

figgygal · 11/08/2011 14:19

My DH has gone crazy with the nursery he had it cleared out from being our main spare room about a month ago then he got all the stickers up retouched the paint bought a load of monkeys for his monkey "jamboree" we got a BF chair from his sister and so that went in there. He then insisted on buying the cot and changing unit so we would have extra storage if we put the unit up so that arrived Monday and it's already up which Is fine but came home yesterday and the cots up too he says so he can see how much space there is once everything in there. So the jungle nursery is done apart from the curtains which were bought off eBay 2 weeks ago and have never turned up Angry. Makes it all v real and feels like such a long way to go still! I'll have to take some pics b4 I make him take the cot apart again to make space......cot beds r immense.

Have come home from work with really bad stomach pains today not bump pains but lovely gas and general bunged up pains need to get on the prune juice I guess. Usually an arm has to be hanging off before I'm off work but trying to be sensible and think of baby. Sat in my pjs feeling sorry for myself And deliberating between working girl or private Benjamin for rest of the afternoon. Ah pregnancy is so glamorous!

Awomancalledhorse · 11/08/2011 14:38

I'm using Vitamin E cream (Superdrug OB, £2.99 for 475ml, they've a whole range of Vit E stuff) as Vit E is a fat-soluble vitamin with valuable antioxidant properties, which shields skin cells from cell and tissue damage. In addition to acting as a hydrating agent every person I know uses it (for scars or s.marks) has sworn by it.

figgygal, I want a monkey jamboree Envy
Hope you feel better soon, Footloose is my go-to trashy film for when I'm down!

Feeling a bit sorry for myself today as I've only seen DH for an hour since he went to work on Tuesday & because of the crazy shifts (he finishes at 2am, back in tomorrow at 10am) I'm not going to see him until Saturday...he's the bringer of chocolate & foot massages. :(

OiMissus · 11/08/2011 14:38

awch ha ha ha! Am loving your bizarre sex dream! Brian Ferry - yikes!!!!
Figgy I am jealous of your monkey jamboree!
Oils... I started moisturising with sun tan creams and after suns on Hols. Since coming back I've been a bit lax, but I'm now just using any old hand cream/body moisturiser (usually little bottles robbed from hotels) after my morning shower, and before bed I'm using Bio Oil. I bought a lovely Body Oil from Clarins ages ago, essential oils, smells delicious, was expensive but lasts a long time - it's thicker than Bio Oil and seems to last a lot longer. I'm using that a couple of times a week as a treat.
I was disappointed by the Bio Oil TBH, I was hoping that for £16+ I'd get something similar to the Clarins (£36) - just not as fancy packaging, but it's a bit thin and nothingy.
No stretch marks yet! And my tan is still pretty dark even after 3+ weeks.
I can't doubt the bio oil as everyone recommends it, but I'd certainly recommend the Clarins oil. Go on, treat yourselves - we deserve it! I might get some more from duty free next week... uk.clarins.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/beauty-products_tone_tonic-body-treatment-oil-firming-toning_C020101003_10201_11751_-11_32323__30506

mopsytop · 11/08/2011 14:43

ooooooooh Oimissus it looks gorgeous! I love Clarins stuff! But given that I can hardly bring myself to splash out £20 on Bio Oil, I don't think my tight purse strings will open that far. I am making myself sound really stingy! But my PhD funding has run out and am living off my savings so I am having to be very economical!

HoneyLovesCake · 11/08/2011 14:43

I've been at the orthodontist this morning having my braces tightened so I was feeling fairly grumpy anyway but I made the huge mistake of leafing through a pregnancy mag in Smiths while I was waiting for the bus home. A picture of Alex Curran in a bikini with the tiniest cutest bump you've ever seen was not what I needed to see! Apparently she's due in December too...sadly there's a bakers right next to the bus stop so somehow I ended up with a pasty & a fresh cream filled apple turnover for lunch Blush Well, if I can't look like that Envy there's not much point in having a salad is there?

OiMissus · 11/08/2011 14:44

there are two reviews of the Clarins oil - both used it in pregnancy. :)

figgygal · 11/08/2011 14:44

Oh and on cream front I'm using avent future mother from boots seems to be doing the trick so far!!

mopsytop · 11/08/2011 14:49

I am sure you look fabulous Honey. And the apple in the turnover counts as one of your five a day! :)

Now I want want want the Clarins oil! Need to win the lotto!

lalababy · 11/08/2011 14:51

figgy your DH sounds like a darling... mine is not interested in doing any shopping till the last minute. And whenever I suggest that maybe he isn't excited his response is always... "I am excited...but I'm a guy" - what does that mean????? Angry I wish I had a monkey jamboree... or shoe lace vines growing from Kri5ty's nursery ceiling!

I am vouching for the bio oil... I've been using it and no stretch marks so far. Although it is partly luck of the draw I reckon. I reckon when it comes to treating myself it will be massages all the way. I reckon they are the best possible beauty treatment ever... and with the great deals on Groupon and Wahanda... I am getting one every week while preggers!!!

Anyway... FAB news... my Lawyer just called and we are ready to complete on the place first thing tomorrow morning... YIPPEEEE!!!

OiMissus · 11/08/2011 14:54

honey I've just googled the alex curran pic - it says it was posted in May... so she was probably still pretty thin and just pushing her belly out... she probably looks like us now with our wobbly derrieres. In fact, she may even be one of us...
pasty and apple cream turnover - Envy Envy Envy!!!

HoneyLovesCake · 11/08/2011 14:54

I'm using Mama Mio Tummy Rub Stretchmark Oil, it's £23 but it smells divine & isn't packed with parabens like Bio Oil & pretty much everything else out there.

www.mamamio.com/uk/pregnancy-skincare/tummy-rub-stretch-mark-oil.html

So far so good but I have stretchmarks from puberty so I was planning on doubling up with their stretchmark butter in the final trimester to be on the safe side.

www.mamamio.com/uk/pregnancy-skincare/tummy-rub-stretch-mark-butter.html

I'm also taking fish & flax seed oil supplements...I figure it's all money well spent if it actually works & if it doesn't I'll know I tried.

OiMissus · 11/08/2011 14:57

lala Envy re your completing!! Congratulations - that's fabulous news!
We're viewing a couple of houses tonight, 4 on Saturday morning, and someone else is coming to see our house on saturday - that's two viewings on Saturday now for our house! Yippee!!

HoneyLovesCake · 11/08/2011 14:58

Really? May? You've just made my day OiMissus Bloody magazines....this is why I don't buy glossies; I'll get on the exercise bike 2moro & work off some of that pastry Grin

The turnover was lush & totally worth the extra workout :)

HoneyLovesCake · 11/08/2011 14:59

Congrats lala that must be a weight off your mind!

mopsytop · 11/08/2011 15:01

Just ordered Bio Oil online - 200ml for a tenner, half the price of Boots! Feeling pleased with my bargain.

mopsytop · 11/08/2011 15:01

p.s. congrats lala yay!

lalababy · 11/08/2011 15:26

oimissus hopefully you will find something you like pretty soon too... it must be doubly hard trying to sell and buy at the same time! I don't envy you!

honey Ohhh how is the mama mio stuff? I only ask coz I recently saw an article re a spa that uses all mammio products for their maternity massages etc (you can tell that I am totally obssessed after getting my last one!)

mopsy it lasts for ages... too!

FYI my mum is coming up with a new lecture everyday. Apparently I should be eating almonds and drinking 2 glasses milk everyday. I feel like I am a five year old... I can't believe she can make me feel like a little kid from across the world!

OiMissus · 11/08/2011 15:47

lala you'll have to tell your mum that fresh cream apple turnovers and pasties are recommended to ladies in the UK. :) (Well, it certainly sounded like a recommendation frmo honey to me!)
