Welcome to the new thread ladies!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
OiMissus · 11/08/2011 09:43

I want to hair dry a chicken!
BTW a few of us Northern-types are meeting up at the Trafford Centre, Manchester, at lunchtime on Saturday. If anyone from this thread can make it, it'd be great to meet you. :)

OiMissus · 11/08/2011 09:47

I bought a big long C shaped pillow - can't remember the make. I really like it for the bump and the inbetween leg bit, but the bit under my head is too hard and I wake up with a stinging ear. I now use two soft pillows under my head, two between my legs, and a big solid pillow under the bump... but I still haven't cracked sleeping comfortably. I've been forcing myself to sleep on my left side, but I need to chop off my left arm.

lalababy · 11/08/2011 09:55

Hi all... I have been having a great time going back and reading the thread... loving everyone's romatic stories and looking at the pics. It is great to be able to put faces to names...

I haven't managed to sleep v comfortably either. I usally sleep on my side... but on my right and trying to sleep on my left side is v strange! I usually just use pillows tucked into my back and my bump with works pretty well.

msbuggywinkle · 11/08/2011 10:01

I'm deliberately not using pillows to sleep yet. I would be more comfortable, but I'm saving it for when I really really need it. Hoping to avoid sleeping with a million extra pillows this time round!

Although with the DDs to run round after all day there is nothing that can prevent me from going to sleep any more!

kri5ty · 11/08/2011 10:02

Yup we shall be armed with Mamma and Pappas bags :o and waddling around the cafe in John Lewis'!

kri5ty · 11/08/2011 10:03

I always wake up on my back, so i need something to stop me... but the pillow is poop :( im not sure if i am using it correctly (who ever knew a pillow could be so confuzzling??) it does swork, but gives me back ache!

lalababy · 11/08/2011 10:18

Kri5ty - I wouldn't worry too much about landing on your back - I read that you will automatically start finding it uncomfortable to lie on your back as your bumb gets bigger. If you are really worried you could try taping a tennis ball to your back :) Then you will definately not be able to sleep on your back.

I am getting terribly impatient... my PILs and SILs (all 4 of them) are going crazy shopping for the lil bub... and I haven't even started coz I am still waiting to move this weekend. And ofcourse they are buying all the fun things like the the baby-gros and booties while I will be stuck buying the silly stuff like the a diaper pail!

kri5ty · 11/08/2011 10:24

tennis ball ooooo great idea :o

kri5ty · 11/08/2011 11:18

i want to cry :( god dam hormones!!

Some pictures i was ordering from a catalogue for nuggets room are out of stock until october :( if only i had bought them last week i would have them! boo hoo

DarciesmumandBump2 · 11/08/2011 11:25

Hope XStitch is alright.

I can't sleep on my back I generally sleep on my right side with pillows inbetween knees and under bump.

We're thinking of getting a rabbit.

mopsytop · 11/08/2011 11:32

OiMissus totally agree with you about the left arm thing - where are you supposed to put it? Have been sleeping with pillow between knees but think I want one of those pregnancy pillows but not sure which! Kri5ty I keep waking up on my back too. I suppose it's fine, if it was uncomfortable I would wake up. Can't sleep on tummy anymore, for example, which I often used to.

I have thus far bought a total of zero for the baby! Have had a free pram, car seat, Baby Björn sling, 2 Grobag baby sleep bags, baby blankets, various types of non-disposable nappy to try and am also shortly being given a load of baby clothes, baby towels, crib blankets and sheets, microwave steriliser, manual breast pump and a play gym/mat. Pretty good going, no? I need to get a cot of some sort, some muslins and a changing mat and ... that should be enough right? Don't want to buy loads of stuff until after baby gets here and I know what I actually need. Everyone says you buy way too much stuff for the first and don't use half of it, so it's better to wait and see what you do need. The shops will remain open!

kri5ty · 11/08/2011 11:49

awww brill mopsy :) we got our cotbed from kiddicare, it was only 170 with an air sprung matress too... and it looks really sturdy :) and will last until they are 5 ish!

I may just try and put a pillow on the bed to stop be rolling over... why do you put pillows between your legs? I know it helps, but in what way?

OiMissus · 11/08/2011 12:02

Tee hee! Must be nearly lunchtime, GingerBaby is kicking again - same time as yesterday! Grin Shame he won't get lively in the evenings when Stu's around. :(

mopsytop · 11/08/2011 12:08

It keeps your hips aligned so helps with pelvic girdle pain. That's why I do it.

lalababy · 11/08/2011 12:09

Wow mopsy that is pretty good going... so far I have a bassinet that extends into a cot that I bought off ebay, an infant car seat (thanks to my sister) and that is it! I also have photos of a number of books, booties and babygros that my PIL/SILs have bought in Australia but still need to send :) Oh and I have vouchers for a pack of disposable nappies, a trial size of nappy rash cream... haha... and a massive belly!!!

kri5ty the pillow b/w legs is meant to take the pressure off your lower back... which is more of an issue in the last months.

BTW I found an amazing place for a pregnancy massage... they even have a special table with place (indentations) for your belly and enormous boobs so you can lie on your tummy. It was BLISS :) After a week of packing it felt sooo great!

mopsytop · 11/08/2011 12:15

I've been having sports massage for my neck/shoulders to try and help with all the migraines/headaches and I have to say it's really been such a help. It hurts though! But feel so much better afterwards. I am not sure I'd enjoy a pampering massage now, as I'd feel it wasn't doing any good! Having said that the table with indentations sounds amazing ... where did you have that done? was it like a normal beauty salon or a spa? I'd LOVE a spa day but you can't go in Jacuzzi and stuff when pregnant, sure you can't? I had a whole day at the Sanctuary in Covent Garden once, was AMAZING! Massage, facial and just lounging about the pool, steam room, whirl pool etc. Would loooove that right now.

kri5ty · 11/08/2011 12:18

oooo lala that sounds amazing... i am going to see if anywhere near me does one!!

So far we have a free -travel system, cotbed (was bought for us), baby monitors, baby bath, baby bjorn sling and cover, microwave steriliser and loadssss of bottles, 2 gro bags and some bed sheets, changing mat, 2 boxes of nappies, cuddle robes and some clothes from my friends little boy :)

Its amazing how generous people are when you have a baby!
My dad also bought us a travel cot(to use as a play pen), baby gym and a rocker!

mopsytop · 11/08/2011 12:28

Wow that sounds great krit5y. It's amazing how generous people are! When I am done with having kids I will continue the trend by giving away all my stuff to new mums!

OiMissus · 11/08/2011 12:32

So far I have been pledged (promised not received):
a pram (12 years old but still fab apparently - we'll see)
a crib (for the first 6 months)
My best friend says she'll buy the Magic bouncer we want. Grin
My SIL has given us a basket with all Johnsons cleany stuff in.
We have put the deposit down on the nursery furniture, and have bought a turtle pyjama case.
I got sent a 5oz bottle from somewhere...?
That's it.
I'm waiting until we get the new house, and also for the baby show in september - I've won free tickets! - And I've entered so many other competitions I've just gotta win something!

lalababy · 11/08/2011 12:36

I need to make friends with babies!!! Waaa... the only person who I know can contribute is my sister - but she lives in New York so not that easy to send stuff over. She managed to send the car seat with a friend... and is gonna send her baby bjorn soon.

The salon I went to for the massage was in Kensal Rise in NW London. It wasn't anything like Sanctuary. God, i went there once too and it was soooo goood. Unfortunately can't go into the jacuzzi while preggers and then when the baby comes we can't escape for a whole day of lounging, massages, pools etc

msbuggywinkle · 11/08/2011 12:38

Pregnancy massage is heaven. My doula does it at every visit, mainly because it helps women be comfortable with her touching them. Anyone heard of rebozo sifting? video Another lovely feeling and good for positioning the baby too.

We haven't done any shopping yet, but DD3 has all of her clothes and most of her nappies washed and in her drawer unit. I need to dig out and wash my stretchy wrap sling...a friend is providing the rest of the nappies when her newborn girl grows out of them. I'm tempted to borrow a moses basket for a few weeks around the time I'm due. We bed share with our babies but the midwives got very very stressy about me not owning a moses basket or breast pump last time. Might borrow them just to keep the mws quiet!

Mainly my baby shopping is stuff for the rest of us to keep us entertained while we're baby mooning (stupid expression!). So DVD box sets for DP and I, new interesting books and DVDs for the DDs, nice PJs for me! Oh, and one of those old fashioned clothes driers that hangs from the ceiling...3 DC, no tumble drier!

mopsytop · 11/08/2011 12:39

It was so amazing wasn't it? And that gorgeous smell throughout. Sometimes I buy the lovely Sanctuary shower gel from Boots just to try and recreate in my head. Very sad. It was a 30th b-day pressie. I have said to my husband when I finally hand in my PhD, I am going to treat myself to another day as a reward ... he will just have to mind the baby!

kri5ty · 11/08/2011 12:47

Oimissus a turtle pj case? is it of the teenage mutant ninja variety?? omg im may just get very excited here if it is?!

I only know one person with a baby, he is 6 months now, so we are happily taking the clothes which will be a god send!!

msbuggy i donly understand why they would get stressy, they aren't essential! if anything i thought they may have been praising you for bed sharing, and soley breast feeding, and not expressing!!

MWs are strange sometimes... if i do trai to be one, i shall be soooooo nice it will be unreal!

I want a doula... actually i just want a massage, maybe i could give my OH a brain transplant so he will rub my sore legs!!

OiMissus · 11/08/2011 13:01

I shall treat myself to a pamperage session soon... I'll find one somewhere! but now I want one with the indented bed!
Teenage mutant - ha ha - unfortunately not! Whirligig from M&P - you should have known! Wink

kri5ty · 11/08/2011 13:03

Haha yup true i should have done!!! Well i shall have an M&P bag with me on saturday, as i am going bra shopping for the 3 for £15! Oh and my tommee tippee flask from john lewis too! :o
