Sorry just went for a new thread as I couldn't see another.

Hope you are all well this morning

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It's a bit quieter on here than usual on a weekend. I'm guessing we are all freaking out and getting ourselves more organised? I wiped self out at IKEA and other shops yesterday getting going on what needs to be done. I'm currently taking a five min breather from hoovering behind our bed and chest of drawers. I've found jammies lodgeds behindthat I haven't seen for a few months and about three different sets of earplugs. Can't seem to exert self for long. Blush

I'm hoping all is still well with Chip and Sylvie-Rose. Must also confess that I'm keen to hear Chip's story as I think if I remember rightly that Chip had a low lying placenta like me and that can result in big bleeds and crash section. If it is down to that I'll be scaremongering the feck out of OH and will make no apology for it. We are woefully disorganised.

Last night we had a moussaka made with home grown courgettes instead of aubergines and it was absolutely delicious. Amazing the difference in taste, the courgettes actually had flavour. So sweet. Yum.

voodoomunkee · 21/08/2011 13:16

Folic I agree, I think everyone is having a mad panic and getting a bit more organised! Am having a breather from washing everything washable in the main room downstairs. The house is chaos. More than usual. Top 50 rock power ballads for accompaniment! Also done the online shop, meal planned and had brunch. Fun times! My thoughts keep wandering back to chip and Sylvie-Rose though.

Folicacid · 21/08/2011 13:48

Voodoo I know what you mean. I hope they are getting stronger every day and that chip is managing to get some sleep at the hospital...and of course that there's plenty of people around to look after the four boys!

I'm on another 5 min breather from hoovering everywhere downstairs now. Watching Celebrity Apprenctice USA- tis a guilty pleasure. I wish hoovering was on The List as it would give me somethign to tick off but everything i'm doing today is just boring but necessary housework. I'm doing so many washings we are out of detergent!

cep how are you getting on? I hope you are surviving the day and the making of roast prok lunch. Sounds bloody lovely.

Bump great news about proactive MW- she sounds like a gem. Hope it all goes well.

29 weeks preggers eh...where is the time going?

bumpandisaacsmum · 21/08/2011 14:57

folic my MW really is a gem; I hope she is on call for homebirth when I go into labour!!

Does anyone know how many weeks chip was when she had sylvie-rose?? A friend of mine is in the same situation having developed signs of pre-eclampsia at 25weeks; over a couple of days she was admitted, em-c sec at just under 26wks & baby now 3days old doing well in scbu. I can't stop thinking about both these Nov babies born in Aug, hoping they continue to do well & gain strength everyday and that their mummies & families are getting support that they need x x

lktoday5 · 21/08/2011 15:08

hi bump, from the stats thread she was due 3rd Nov. Now, Im no mathematician (especially at 29 weeks) but that makes her 2 days ahead of me so 29 weeks less a day and sylvie rose was born 5 days ago so 28 weeks or so? Happy to be corrected by someone who has a brain that works better than mine!!! (or by the lady herself). Agree with everyone else, thinking of her lots ....an djust got back from a trip to Primark for the hospital bag - (almost) panic stations!

voodoomunkee · 21/08/2011 15:29

Yeah I think she was 28 weeks? Am due 8th and I'm 29 weeks on tuesday.
Folic I've washed 2 lots of curtains, cushion covers, throwovers and the normal washing for a weekend! I'd kill for a slightly boozy Sunday lunch someone else made for me and washed up!!!
Lk I had OH and the dc's with me when I braved primarni, hence why I didn't get everything! I have got new pj's and nightie and slippers which can be scooped up in a second! OH has asked when am 'doing the bags' ha ha. I said soon, even if decide on a homebirth. I don't want to have to mention it to mil but I'm wondering when abouts she wants to go pay for the pram. Eek! What with the paint and school uniforms etc am pretty much spent up for the month :-( boo.

cep · 21/08/2011 15:42

afternoon ladies, thanks for the offers of assistance. Grin

roast pork was yummy, we had mil and niece join us which was arranged this morning so thankfully has enough potatoes. my mil brought her own chicken and salad, (which i'm not sure if i'm just being hormonal or if that is actually quite rude.) apparently she didn't know what roast i was doing so brought something along. She can't eat pork apparently. we've just taken dss home and i'm resting feet up at the moment, ds is asleep on the sofa, dh is out in the garage after yet another series of arguments.

as far as doing things for when baby arrives, we're moving ds next weekend into the bigger bedroom to share bunkbeds with dss. i keep thinking i need to buy clothes as although we kept everything from ds he was a may baby so may need longer sleeves for younger age, but i keep going blank when i think about it. Hopefully once ds is in the big room, i'll be able to get the baby clothes out again and look at them properly to see what i really need.

oh someone sorry can't remember who mentioned about music, yes they normally do allow you to play music in the labour ward if thats what you want, i wouldn't get my hopes up about the specific song though unless you want dh to be focusing on getting the song right for you at the specific time rather than holding your hand (unless you really love the song and have it on replay all the time). When i was in labour with ds in the birth pool, cause there was obviously water we couldn't have electrical items plugged in so they had a windup radio, which dh took as his job to wind up, even whilst i was in mid contraction in the end it was a case of "will you PLEASE forget the **ing radio."

chipmonkey · 21/08/2011 16:39

Hi all!Grin
Back home again although baby is still in hospital, obviously! We are all a bit shell-shocked but recovering!

To confirm, Sylvie-Rose was born at 28 weeks and four days.

So, at 4am on Monday morning, I had a small bleed. It started in bed so I was hoping to find that when I went to the loo it would just be increased discharge but it was bright red blood. So I drove myself to the hospital ( don't know WHAT I was thinking, the MW was quite cross with me!) was hooked up to scanner, baby was fine. They eventually moved me to an antenatal bed on a busy ward and my obstretician came in to see me. As it was only a small bleed and seemed to have stopped, he thought it best to give me 24 hours before deciding if I could go home or not. Dh came in with MIL to bring some stuff and was cross with me for not waking him properly. ( I had woken him but not to the point where he could insist on driving me in.

I then got moved to a quiet side-ward where there was another girl with placenta praevia who had had a bleed and two girls who were having elective sections. At around 1.00 am I had a massive bleed. rang the bell for the nurse and suddenly there were 4-5 people around my bed. They did a vaginal exam ( the nurse exclaimed "She's gushing!" and then a doctor said "We need to get this lady prepped for section" At that stage I said "Can Dr F do the section?" as I knew it was urgent and wasn't sure how long it would take for him to get in. The doc just told me he had been called. They were doing all sorts of wiring up at this stage and wheeled me over to theatre. I could hear Dr F's voice in the background ( relief!) and then was given a mask over my face to knock me out.

I then woke up in recovery at 6am and was told that I had a little girl Shock but that I had had to have a hysterectomy. Apparently the bleeding was out of control, my obs callled in a second consultant and between them they decided that there was no other choice. I had already been given 10 units of blood. The histology results are not back yet but it is thought that I had placenta accreta which is a possible complication with multiple caesareans and low lying placenta.

I was kept in recovery for ages before being moved to a private room which was post surgical rather than postnatal. I am not sure how good an idea this was. The nursing staff were excellent but the NICU staff were putting pressure on me to express for the baby and of course I wanted to give her my own milk but the nursing staff were telling me not to get up and express but to rest. Now, I had ds3 in NICU when he was born and I know that you need to pump about 8 times a day to build and maintain a supply so I was getting quite upset when the nurses who really meant well, were tellling me to pump at night and then sleep through because I knew that would be bad for supply. I think in a post-natal ward they might have been better.

Sylvie-Rose is doing well. She was 1.17kg when born so very tiny. She lost some of her birth weight as is usual but is slowly regaining it. So far, she has tolerated my breast milk well and will be taken off the intravenous feed she is having. The nurses say she is feisty. I have been able to have one or two cuddles which are lovely! It will be tricky getting in to see her as I can't drive yet but my Mum and aunt will help out.

voodoomunkee · 21/08/2011 16:57

Wow chip. Just wow! You sound so with it, I'd be a gibbering wreck! Congratulations lovely, your daughter sounds perfect! What a traumatic time you have had, well done for getting yourself to hospital eventhough you shouldn't havebeen driving, somehow though in situations like this needs must! I hope you are resting even though there is so much going on. Big unmumsnetty hugs! x

Folicacid · 21/08/2011 17:16

Oooooh chip great to hear you back at home and Sylvie-Rose thriving. Sounds so dramatic, maybe she'll be a drama queen as she grows up?! And I bet spoiled by all those big bros. Sorry to hear you had to have a hysterectomy but reckon it was in your best health interests so hope you feel okay with it. I suppose it's better that it was not after your first-I imagine there would be so much more to mourn.

A girl! Grin

I am absolutely exhausted. Had an other trip out to the shops to buy curtains and the like. OH is upstairs now swearing loudly putting up curtain pole.

PMA- Was in boots and the woman at till was so busy upselling me mousse that she forgot to ring through stretch mark oil. I thought it sounded weirdly cheap at the time and have just checked receipt.

Folicacid · 21/08/2011 17:20

cep I'd have said MIL was being kind not rude- better to turn up with something than expect you to alternatively cater for her if it was pork on the menu. Although of course I wasn't there so I don't know her tone etc. Wink but it sounds good to me.

BuffyFan · 21/08/2011 17:26

Fantastic to hear you're both doing OK, chip! Sorry it was a traumatic experience, and that the time in hospital wasn't as good as it could have been. But a healthy Sylvie-Rose (and mum!) is the most important thing. Grin

TwoJackRussellsandabean · 21/08/2011 17:43

Wow, Chip, so glad that things worked out okay and your daughter is here okay, she does sound like a fighter!! Lets hope you can get her home sooner than later.

I was pretty organised anyway, but after these developments like everyone else have take the chance to do some more things to get organised, have just washed all the clothes that a friend gifted us and hung them out to dry, so cute, but a bit strange at the same time!!! There are so many clothes that am wracking my brain to think of a nice present to them to say thank you for their generosity, am thinking something for the garden for her and a slab of beer for him?!?

I am pretty much sorted for the bub, need to make some curtains and pre wash the bedding and nappies that we have, but that's all details really. Have been tired though, like everyone else I just can't seem to manage to do as much as I could, although I do forget sometimes and then suffer for it later!!

pandia · 21/08/2011 18:39

Haven't written for ages (I lurk on my phone but am far too rubbish at typing to be able to post until on proper computer) - but just had to post once read Chip's news. Wow amazing!! I can't believe the first of us already has a LO! Congratulations Chip and hope that you can get beautiful and healthy little Sylvie-Rose home asap. It all must have been such a shock for you, but you sound amazingly calm! How exciting to have a girl!

All well here. I have a GTT & 28 wk appt on Thur - how was it anyone else who had one? I am at Chelsea & Westminster and it seems non-optional, they make everyone have one. I have my annual review at work about an hour afterwards so I hope I won't be feeling too woozy?

Also another quick question from a firsttimer... I think a few people mentioned on here the best baby monitor to get? I am feeling a bit confused by the range and whether I should get digital or not - think I heard something that the digital ones emit more waves or radiation or whatever than mobile phones so maybe not good to be in baby's room? So confused! Thanks for any advice! Have a nice relaxing Sunday night all.

SnoozleDoozle · 21/08/2011 18:45

Chip that was a dramatic experience I'm sure you could have done without, but I'm glad to hear Sylvie-Rose is doing well. I hope you can come to terms with the hysterectomy, it must have been a shock to come round and hear that, but I suppose the alternative doesn't bear thinking about, as they wouldn't have done it unless is was the last resort.

I had my glucose test thing this morning at hospital. The midwives were lovely, couldn't have been nicer, but they read the notes and thought the doctor was fussing about nothing. But anyway, argh, that glucose drink was revolting. I managed the first half glass not too bad, but the second half I was gagging as I was drinking it, midwife kept saying 'try not to vomit, you'll only have to drink it all over again!'. I hate sweet drinks anyway, but this was a whole other level. The horror! So, I waited for two hours in the waiting room, then when I went back in for the second blood test, it took four attempts and two members of staff to get the blood out of me, so I'm the proud owner of two sore, bruised arms this evening. Midwife was so upset, as she is very experienced but just couldn't get it right today. Anyway, to compensate, she made me tea and toast which was very decent of her. Just have to ring tomorrow for results and see where we go from here.

Caliphora · 21/08/2011 19:04

Pandia I was out for the day after mine, but I had a ridiculously bad experience - as long as you have a sturdy meal after, you should be fine.

cep · 21/08/2011 19:05

wow chip that does sound dramatic. i'm so glad it turned out so well for you. Sorry about the hysterectomy i hope you're feeling ok about it.

folic i just think it weird that she didn't phone to ask what roast it was, then say i shouldn't be eating pork do you mind if i bring some chicken with me?

She serves the strangest meals that just don't go together and i've known her once to cook rice and spinach together for 30 mins, but i'd never think of just taking food with me.

i have my mw appt on tuesday hoping to hear the hb again, ds really wants to hear it again. Then it's my gtt on friday, i'm hoping i remember not to eat breakfast. snoozle my arms are terrible for getting blood out of, i keep getting told off for not drinking enouigh water beforehand, so not looking forward to it.

voodoomunkee · 21/08/2011 19:17

Can someone send somebody to PLEASE finish this painting?!?!? Am so sick of the sight of it!!!

Can I ask, does anyone get weird crampy feelings? Not painful, just uncomfy. Deffo not anything to be concerned about but just something I have noticed the last day or so. I wonder if it's braxton hicks related?

Back to sorting out somewhere we can all sit, both settee's are covered in junk!

Caliphora · 21/08/2011 19:31

voodoo I'm getting weird crampy feelings too - when I move around or stand up for too long - but I'm suspecting it's BH related.

Anyone else having a professional footballer growing? I sometimes wonder if there's such a thing as too much movement!

voodoomunkee · 21/08/2011 19:33

Cali, tis quite odd and a bit sore isn't it? I d

voodoomunkee · 21/08/2011 19:35

Cali, tis quite odd and a bit sore isn't it? I don't get many kicks towards top of the bump but she is definitely throwing out a few shapes! Kicks/movement a lot at the bottom and around my belly button.

MooseyMoo · 21/08/2011 20:49

chip thanks for sharing. That must have been a shock to wake up to a girl & a hysterectomy. Keep expressing when you can, anything is better than nothing at the moment. Congratulations again. So pleased for you and your DH.

pandia the monitor I have is www.amazon.co.uk/BT-150-Digital-Baby-Monitor/dp/B000T4YB66/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1313955837&sr=8-1 lullabys are v good for soothing baby to sleep.

Cep that is weird mil didn't ring to check what roast you were having unless your DH told her?

Am shattered today and bump is definitely feeling heavier. Unfortunately so does DD.

Tjuice · 21/08/2011 22:19

Congrats, chip! Hope all is well with all of you. What a dramatic birth...

Now I feel nowhere NEAR ready for this baby! No hospital bag, nothing washed and ready. Cot still in in DD's bedroom, pram in the UK. I am still doing the major nesting, not the finishing touches. And I was planning to go back to New York and Germany at the end of the month for work - market research tests for some toy adverts I've been working on. But imagine if...

Today was spent selling my stuff at the flea market here - brilliant weather for it and I made over 300 pounds and got rid of loads of stuff but I am so knackered, may have to "work from home" tomorrow.

smilingcl - I am really curious - what is your day job...?

juststarting · 21/08/2011 22:40

Evening all. Sorry, not been around for AGES. I decided I was spending too much time on the computer and not getting stuff done and so on, but then found that I still wasnt getting stuff done anyway, I was just finding other ways to do nothing. And then things got mad busy for a while anyway. However. So, I am a few weeks behind, is there anything I should know?
What I HAVE gathered is that Sylvie-Rose has been born! Chip, you must be such a cacophany of feelings right now! I hope you get more cuddles together every day.
It feels frivolous comparatively to comment that between my partner (vegan) and myself (loads of food intolerances - including pork incidentally) we find managing being catered for kind of awkward at times. Mind you, with close family, we just talk about it and get it more or less sorted. But with people we dont know as well, we often make sure we have something with us just in case. Though we tend to only bring it out if it turns out there is not enough of something we can eat to get by! Or we just say in advance - dont worry, we'll bring some vegan sausages and just pop them in to have with the veg -or something.
What else. Oh, cramping, Yeah, me too. And baby monitors - we went against getting a digital one due to the signals used. Ours is fine. you get a lot of interference on it at times, but its never failed us, and as we just have the doors open at night, we dont have to sleep through it. Though we did on holiday for two weeks and it was ok, and i am a seriously fussy sleeper.
And Ha! We are so not ready for this baby! Actually because we hzve a lot of stuff like clothes etc for DS, we wouldnt be TOO bad, but still.

PoppysMom · 22/08/2011 04:00

chip congratulations on the birth of Sylvie-Rose. What a gorgeous name.
I am sorry that you had such a dramatic time, but I am very pleased that you and DD are doing well. Hopefully Sylvie-Rose can come home soon
I hope that the hysterectomy doesn't leave you too traumatised.

Sorry I haven't been on in a while. I have been madly busy. I am still trying to confirm when my last day in work will be. It appears the 31st August, but it's not confirmed Confused
I have handed my notice in ages ago for the 31st, but always said I would stay through September if my company needed me, but still haven't been told!
Anyway, if it is the 31st, then I will have my last day in a week, due to a bank holiday on Tuesday and a bank holiday that I can carry over and plan to take on Wednesday. Shocking how fast time has flown by, but I am really up for having my last day in a week. I am so exhausted!

Last weekend was my DH's and my first wedding anniversary and he took me to a stunning hotel for the weekend and we saw The Lion King yesterday. It was amazing and bump loved it!

I think that is me pretty much up to date, though would love to hear from my employer so that I can plan Angry

Hope you are all well and have a good start to the week
