Poor cakes, mine have been hurting on and off too and I found cold wheatbag from the freezer (usually used for migraines) helped. Keep an eye out for any red streaks on the skin (sign of mastitis) as presumably we can get infections at any stage?

ParsleyLion1 · 16/08/2011 17:31

makescakes I've been getting the odd one of those - I've put them down to growing pains, though mine are far less sore now than a few weeks ago.

Congrats on the scan knittiekitty :)

Hi every one, I had my 20 week scan today. Little bean was awkward and wasn't giving anything away. The sonographer wanted to look at the heart but but baby had it's back to her so made it difficult so she sent us away for 10 minutes to have a walk and then she could see baby had turned over. We could see all the chambers in the heart pumping and baby finally obliged and we could see his BOY bits. Yes baby no. 5 is a boy dh so please asds2 will have a brother which will make the room arrangements easier. Now just waiting for dh to come home so we can tell every one.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 16/08/2011 18:17

Boob much better now thanks :)

See - hearing about your scans has just made me want to know even more - tough call.

Had chickpea enchiladas for supper - yummy

Spagbolagain · 16/08/2011 18:29

Congrats on the scans, how exciting!!
Just to put my twopenneth in on the tea thing ..... :)

Tea for little ones isn't considered a good thing because people put sugar in which is bad for teeth, it does have caffeine which should be avoided, and if drunk around the same time as food it can inhibit good iron adsorption.

However, I don't put sugar in my tea and I drink decaf, so provided it's not a mealtime, I have given DS (21mo) the odd swig of mine as long as it's not a mealtime Blush. This is because he is interested (tea was about his 4th word), because all our family drink buckets of the stuff, and although he only really has milk or water now I would rather he migrates onto tea than squash or coke! So I will probably start giving very very weak tea (ie 50% milk) once he is over 2, but never at meals and never with sugar. I might be a bad mother though :)

supadupapupascupa · 16/08/2011 18:37

I'm off to make my 1st very own maternity tunic tonight. Wish me luck! MIL helped me to cut it all out earlier this afternoon but now the rest is up to me.....eek!

ParsleyLion1 · 16/08/2011 18:57

That's great Nanny01 :)

Such exciting scan news today - I wish mine would come sooner its not until 9th!

ParsleyLion1 · 16/08/2011 19:00

Good luck supa - with the doppler and the tunic!

shonnomanom · 16/08/2011 19:11

Oh very exciting supa, Let us know how you get on with the dress making.

nanny Congrats on your healthy baby BOY!

knittie Congrats on your healthy baby GIRL! How cute is your dd reaction Smile She has good taste, my dd is called Hannah.

We had our Team Yellow scan today. Baby is healthy. Dd repeatedily pointed at the screen asking if it is 'Bobby'(her name for baby). After a while the MW said how 'Bob' is a nice name Hmm Dp reckons he saw 'evidence' and is more sure after the MW comments. Find out in about 20weeks im sure...

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 16/08/2011 19:14

Where do you live Supa? Can I borrow the doppler? ;) Have fun with it and good luck with the sewing. Whose pattern is it?

Am currently drawing up a pros/cons list for finding out what bubba is. Essentially though it's not rational, is it? I want to know, DH doesn't. Someone is going to have to sacrifice their preference.

shonnomanom · 16/08/2011 19:18

Oh meant to say.
A friend doing her dental training came across parents that would widen the hole in the teat so the baby could suck melted MilkyWays mixed with milk at bedtime. 'Apparently' it makes the baby sleep better at night Hmm

ParsleyLion1 · 16/08/2011 19:23

MakesCakes you could always take the option to wait and see at the scan - fishface may present the results to you whether you want to know or not! or vice-versa :)

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 16/08/2011 19:31

Shock @shonnonom
omg

Deesus · 16/08/2011 20:02

Hi all and welcome newbies!

shonnonom First thought on that was 'urgh...can't believe what some people will do/think is ok' and second thought was 'yum, am going to make one for myself' Smile

One week till my 20 week scan! I can't wait. Haven't felt any kicks yet but think i can feel flutters and wiggles. We are definitely going to find out the sex if we can. Completely unscientific poll of friends & family is saying it's a boy (only one person thinks it's a girl!). Not sure why my bump is giving off such 'masculine' vibes but it's kind of making me think 'oh it's definitely a girl now'.

ghosteditor · 16/08/2011 20:39

shonno Shock ShockShock... That's obscene! I'm sure I had the odd slurp of tea as a kid but it's not quite the same thing as a bottle every morning. I think my reaction was so strong because I have actually been through full on caffeine withdrawal and the headaches/foul temper were pretty bad for such a piddly little drug!

Glad to hear about the boob cakes Grin

So many scans that I can't keep up! So pleased at all your news and great that all the scans were ok - well done you lot! Mine is tomorrow, yeys!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 16/08/2011 20:43

Mine isn;t till next Thurs - how did you steal a week's march on me when we're due the same day? :P

Nanny01 · 16/08/2011 21:27

Thanks every one- what an evening my 2 ds's were over the moon to have another boy, the girls were crying ; not helped by the chant "boys rule" over and over again.

Holding everyone's hand as I know how long it seems for this scan to come around. I can't remember who said they hadn't felt anything yet. I haven't to I am thinking that mine might be down to my high bmi. I will be having to see the consultant in 1 weeks time for my weight. I hope he is better than the last one who really upset me. Any way I will be double checking the gender at 24 weeks with a 4d scan so my dc's can all come and see their new brother.

Also bought my first baby item, 3 baby grows (blue of course).

I think now they have pretty much said it is the 1st Jan- though I feel the 8th is more likely (hence why I have kept the edd the same.
Good luck ghosteditor for tomorrow.

ghosteditor · 16/08/2011 21:45

Thanks nanny! And cakes - I know, how rude am I? Mine's early though - 18+6! Any luck deciding whether you'll find out or not?

Oeisha · 16/08/2011 21:56

I've been having stabby breast pains for the last few. Bloody irritating. I get frequent infected glands (had more ultrasounds on my boobs than on anywhere else!) whilst not pg and if feels like this, so I guess it is stuff on the move/filling up/out again, and often my breast will feel VERY hot, as now. As long as there's no obvious lump and the pain eases after 2 or 3 days you'll be fine. I'm always told to wait for 4-6wks and only then bother reporting it, unless the lump feels ragged or I see any change in skin texture...
...if you're worried though, ring a MW/you doc.

re: tea. Can't be good for a baby to have that much caffeine...just think of what some adults are like when they don't get their 'fix'.

So I rang our MW unit today and they're not at all bothered by my slight temp, dizziness, headaches and now what feels like ligament pains. They suggested ringing my GP if it's bothering me as it's nothing to do with Yolkis according to them. It is and it isn't bothering me. It's not like I get all of the symptoms all of the time... just pisses me off when it takes me about 20mins to leave work as the pain is so jarring.

supa I hope the doppler arrives soon. You think your anxiety alone would tempt your MW to have a go.

I LOVE sylvanians. Totally loved them as a kid (admittedly I was a little older than the usual age when they first hit the UK). Luckily I have 2 nieces that both seem fairly 'girly' so I can do some vicarious playing through them if Yolkis isn't interested (not ruling out a boy Yolkis not wanting to play with 'girl' things).

Oeisha · 16/08/2011 22:04

knittie Weird! I knew someone had had a scan and a girly result...MN was just hiding the last page form me... Congrats!
nanny Gz on the boy-bits too! :D

Congrats to all the team yellow 20wks scanners too!

Really can't wait for my scan...it feels like such a long time to not be 'properly in touch' with Yolkis, the occasional booting/battering is lovely but not like I'm somehow imagining properly feeling Yolkis will make me feel.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 17/08/2011 04:09

Ugh. Am awake at stupid o'clock. Feel sick and sproglet's squirming isn't helping.

Think we've decided to find out... basically DH said that no having me go on about it was more important to him than not finding out Blush - oh well, I was just trying to be fair, but I think the pros/cons list was the final straw.
I reckon he'll be excited when he finds out though, and I don't think we'll be announcing it on FB or anything... might tell my mum, though :)

I hope I start feeling sleepy again soon, still, at least I was planning to stay in all day tomorrow waiting for a parcel. Have to call the passport office, too, as we're going away on the 3rd and only just remembered my passport was out of date - oops. Still, it would have been a prob even if it was in date as it was still in my maiden name and DH booked the flights in our married name - doh!

redheadbedhead · 17/08/2011 06:55

Hello everyone!!
Back from my hols in Devon. The cat is ridiculously pleased to see us. (cute) My husband (who had to be persuaded into being a cat owner) was amazed and said 'I didn't realise cats could be like this, it's so nice' I felt so smug

I've just spent an hour trying to catch up with the thread, you guys have covered a LOT of topics!!!!

It seems everyone is having their scans at the moment - I still don't even have a date for mine! I rang the hospital as some of you suggested, and they said I was low priority (why??) and if I hadn't heard by 18wks I should ring again! This seems bonkers to me. My quality of care so far has been totally shite. I've got my 16wk midwife apptmt next week (at 18wks!!!) with a new midwife in a totally different place. Will she even have my records/blood test results??

Basically it's all annoying wank.

And I still haven't felt a proper wriggle.

Anyway. less moaning. Re everyone deciding whether to see what gender they've got, we are definitely going to find out - started buying stuff at a boot sale on sunday and it was infuriating not knowing what we could buy - saw some amazing clothes for 10p/20p etc and couldn't really get them because they were generally blue or pink. Settled on a bunch of cute babygro's that were stripey/animally/neutral. CUTE!!!!

I don't want girls in pink anyway, like some of you others, so I'll probably buy all green/yellow stuff. My favourite colour is green anyway. And the nursery will be white and green... Let's just hope the baby itself isn't actually green...Confused

Anyway well done to everyone on doing so well, and hope sickness is easing up for some of you like it is for me - only one throw up in 10 days, yay!!!

Wormshuffler · 17/08/2011 07:13

Morning ladies
another one here avidly awaiting 20 week scan next week. I am really fretting about there being something wrong with it I never worried so much with my dcs so not sure why I am now, maybe It's becauce I am 10 years older now!
I don't wish to find out what colour we have but dh does so he is going to have it on a piece of paper. I trust him to keep it to himself!

To the lady who doesn't like pink, my gothic friend said the same and I saw them for the first time in ages the other day, her daughter wearing pink! Apparently the daughter now aged 5 loves pink and insists on wearing it now she had a mind of her own.

I am loving my doppler and sit for hours listening to baby.

falabalamb · 17/08/2011 09:32

Congratulations everyone on your healthy scans, mine's a week tomorrow, really nervous too about it all being allright, I almost feel that having had 2 healthy children I've used up my share of luck, silly I know but I'll be glad when the scan is over. At least my downs screening results have finally come back; 1 in 100,000 so that's good.
We are definately going to find out. Songrapher seemed to think it was a boy at the last scan and the scan pictures seem to show something that looks like boy bits but who knows!! We have a girl name picked out but absolutely no idea if it's a boy.
Wormshuffler, that's too funny. With dd1 I tried my best to avoid pink, not give her traditionally girl toys etc and now at almost 5 she is the girliest girl you could ever meet. Her whole world is about pretty dresses and princesses, she does not get this from me, must be from her daddy!!! Dd2 on the other hand who was swamped by her older sisters girly obsession from birth now prefers to dress as spiderman :) A friend with teenage girls once told me that if if you just go along with their girly obsessions as young children, they are less likely to be girly teenagers...I live in hope!
Redhead, your maternity care sounds terrible, why are you low priority? Surely the whole point of the scan is to find out what kind of priority you are!!
My two have 'tea' but it's actually just milk and hot water. Dd2 really likes coffee (wierd). I've never given it to her but tries to steal the dregs from the bottom of my cup unless I get it out of her way quickly!! Sorry if I've missed some posts further back but is anyone still drinking proper coffee while pregnant? In the past I've always gone off it but this time round I've really wanted it so have limited myself to half a cup in the morning. I'm now feeling guilty about this!
Good luck anyone with scans coming up soon :)
