thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your kind messages. it was so nice, especially during the frustrating waiting times, to be able to sign into mumsnet on my phone and see all of your messages.

today has been the best day ever, i feel so happy to be home. just resting and encouraging this little one to stay put for at least another week and a day (i'm 35 + 6 today)!

wrote a mammoth blog post about the whole hospital incident, so if you're interested here it is pregnantinlondon.wordpress.com/

seasaltbaby · 14/09/2011 17:13

Woah monkey just read your blog, that is some ordeal! I can see similarities in my experience on Friday night-had to wait over 2 hours for a bed after they decided to admit me, was given no dinner despite being there since 3pm (other than a sandwich) and then no one came to see me once I was in my room anyway! I know the NHS is very overstretched and as someone who actually works for them, I can appreciate it from both sides. However it can be very frustrating to be kept waiting for so long and not know what's going on.

Anyway, it sounds like you've got through it all and best news is that bubs is doing very well! Your right-it is the best feeling ever to get home after a night in!!Make sure you take good care of yourself and put your feet up!

Wobbledoos · 14/09/2011 17:49

sassy i don't think your bump is overly large!

Jane4321 · 14/09/2011 18:34

Trying to buy a baby carrier or sling...there are so many options! Confused
Looking on the Baby Bjorn website, they all look lovely...but expensive. I wonder if it's worth paying the extra money for one?

Has anyone bought one yet? Any advice?

:)

Scheherezade · 14/09/2011 18:47

sounds like an absolute nightmare monkey! I couldn't cope if my hospital was like that!! think we must be v.lucky, our maternity unit seems wonderfully chilled out and everyone nice when we had our tour.

Jane - I got a barely used new baby bjorn off ebay for £16 :)

CheshireDing · 14/09/2011 18:49

Groovy we have put tinfoil in our pram so the cat doesn't go in it, apparently someone told DH this works because they don't like it. I don't know how true it is.

Jane we have got this sling, we bought it from somewhere else though, it was about £35. It's quite simple to use so I reckon we will use it every day with dog walking and what have you
www.wallaboo.nl/en/products/baby-draagdoek-suede/chocolat

Bilb yes still up for a meet up but I do not finish work until 29th and so unless your EDD is soon the week daytime would be best, then we could be ladies who lunch :)

Jane4321 · 14/09/2011 18:53

CheshireDing and Scheherezade thank you. Yes will check out e-bay, and the wallaboo looks great for BFing too.
:)

CheshireDing · 14/09/2011 19:15

I have put some bump pics on (sorry don't know how to turn them around, will ask sad-techy-DH later), makes me look like I have saggy boobs though :(

PenguinArmy · 14/09/2011 19:42

get thee to a sling meet or similar, you get to try loads out, borrow some and see if they work for you. Personally I find slings a lot more functional and comfortable than carriers

PenguinArmy · 14/09/2011 19:44

I used a kari-me with DD, looking for something similar but easier to get on and off for when I'm in and out of places. Perfect for longer walking and I only wanted to take it off as I got hot indoors with it on. One shoulder ones tend not to be so great for longer periods of time because obviously the weight distribution is one sided

sassy34264 · 14/09/2011 20:09

it wont let me look at them cheshire its as if you havent set up a profile page.

i was going to heavily rely on a sling for this baby, so i wouldnt have to buy a triple buggy but im not even going to buy one now. my back is sooooo bad its not true. i have been in pain since i stepped off the last bus today. i have spent the last 5 hours more or less sat on the couch, unless i had to move- ie, made dinner for everyone. ive only been upstairs once and ive just come upstairs with all dc's to bed as i dont think i can make the stairs again. ive made dd1 do most of the work- empty dishwasher, bring in washing. she would normal moan and throw a strop but when she can see me crawling across the carpet in agony to get to the couch, she has decided to do it without a peep. plus i have had to let her carry isobel upstairs and i never let her carry them on the stairs, so she knows it must be bad. hopefully it will be better tomorrow.
bb3 is quiet ! this is it now- any regularly posters who go off the radar for a couple of hours are going to be assumed in labour! Grin

sassy34264 · 14/09/2011 20:15

oh, read your blog monkey. it doesnt seem bad to me, just a normal nhs hospital . i was kept in last pregnancy and not given any food for hours and im diabetic and that was the reason i was taken in!!!!!! my mum was just flabbergasted, sat with me while they monitored the babies and ignoring the fact that my blood sugar was in hypo.
i have to say though in their defence, i dont mind the food. its mostly ok. or at least it is in the hospital i go too.
glad you are ok. x

PenguinArmy · 14/09/2011 20:21

I always assumed food will not be available and taken or organised my own.

BB3 · 14/09/2011 20:40

Don't get excited just out for dinner for sisters birthday and spending some time with a very cuddly DS who was distraught when I picked him up from nursery. I've honestly never seen him so emotionally drawn SadSadSad

We have a couple of close parent slings which I love. Can't get on with one shoulder ones at all!

sass don't blame you for not considering sling, especially if LO is already 6lb GrinGrin

BB3 · 14/09/2011 20:41

monkey we have similar 'waiting around' issues with our hospital - trace always takes in excess of 4 hours. Without fail.

bilblio · 14/09/2011 20:43

I second the sling meets. There's a website here which lists them all. Lots have libraries so you can borrow them to try out before buying too. Our local NCT groups also have sling libraries. I made a wrap for DD last time. I didn't get much use out of it though as she was too big by then.
sassy Hope your back is better tomorrow. Mine goes occasionally so I know how you feel. Wraps are good if you have a bad back. I had a baby carrier for DD but couldn't use it much. The wraps spread the weight much more. I've also got a Wilkinet sling this time which looks fantastic. I got it off Freegle, with the intention of passing it on to the sling library... but found out I was pregnant before it got there, so I'm keeping it for now. :)

Cheshire I finish work next Wednesday (21st). Hurrah!! I really feel ready now. I've got 4 weeks then till my due date (24th.) So hopefully we could squeeze in a ladies who lunch meet up before the LO's emerge. If not we'll have to meet up once they're here.

Monkey & seasalt so sorry to hear about your nightmare hospital experiences, but at least you're both/all okay. I've only ever spent one night in a hospital, when DD was born, and that was enough. I'm hoping to be home a few hours after this one arrives.

I'm now off to bed (and I'd stay there all weekend if I could get away with it). DD & DH seem to have shrugged off the cold DD shared, but it's hit me hard. I'm not snotty thankfully but it's gone straight to my chest (I'm asthmatic) and I feel shivery and achy. Flipping pregnant immune system!

sassy34264 · 14/09/2011 20:46

bb3 awh. so sorry about ds. how old is he? does he understand anything about the fact there are going to be new babies?

sassy34264 · 14/09/2011 20:54

bilblio crossed posts. hope you feel better soon. x

PenguinArmy · 14/09/2011 21:45

we used our sling until 10 months as it was hard to use buggies on the buses where we were. We've just put the buggy up, have a phil and teds explorer courtesy of ILs.

PenguinArmy · 14/09/2011 21:45

which we got from Mothercare on their price match for 430 including double seat, raincover and cocoon.

MrsP81 · 14/09/2011 21:53

Oh my goodness, I am going to have to try harder to keep up with you all or else I?m going to fall off the bus again! Hopefully I?ll find more time once I?ve finished work but that still seems like an absolute age away.

I haven?t washed any of the baby clothes yet as I didn?t have anywhere to put them, until this morning when the nursery furniture arrived! Smile So now I might wash it all and put it away in the new drawers.

Glad to hear that the mw was reassuring after your scare seasalt, hope everything continues smoothly now.

Welcome Trudyla. Smile

I am in the middle of NCT classes at the moment Jane and also very glad to be doing them. Everyone there is lovely and it?s reassuring to share all our experiences and find out that they?re normal!

Glad to hear that HB is normal Leo, I?m sure everything is just fine. It must get quite squished up in there!

Hope you feel better soon bilblio, I just had a cold/cough as well which didn?t seem to effect anybody else quite as badly.

Hope you?re enjoying your resting monkey, I?m going to head off and read your blog post now.

BB3 · 14/09/2011 22:47

sassy he's 2 and 5 months. He's such a beautifully energetic and happy child but he stopped speaking completely when my sisters baby arrived which was awful (until then he was only child, grandchild, great grandchild etc). HV isn't worried as his understanding is good and he has no other signs of problems but he is using speech to control a situation he is uncomfortable with. His speech is coming back slowly as he regains confidence again (has been 16 weeks since he essentially lost it) but all on his terms iyswim - only when he wants to say it! He is also very shy (not like his mother) until he feels comfortable then is a bit of a terror, so nursery being a new experience with strangers is throwing him a bit!

He says babies to my tummy and hugs and kisses it and is hugely aware that things are changing and we are all aware that these babies arriving may well put us back again. it's only been three sessions so I don't want to expect too much but he has never in his life cried himself to sleep until today at nursery. Sad He even wanted to be full-on cuddled to sleep whereas normally he likes his own space and I feel hugely guilty so have him curled up in bed with DH and I tonight Blush. I'm also worried as I want nursery to be a chance for him to mix and develop naturally but at the moment there is a lot of emphasis on his lack of speech (which I highlighted to them initially) and I don't want it to become an 'issue' he focuses on and tries to control again!

Sorry for blurb everyone - I am off to bed will catch up properly tomorrow.

BBxx

GroovyRach · 14/09/2011 22:49

Oh I'm having terrible pain in my pubic area today Sad. Didn't manage swimming, took a walk around the shops and bought a gym ball but when I got home, the pain kicked in big time. Looked on YouTube at ways to use the ball but don't know if it's made the pubic pain worse? My lower back and tummy are achy aswell, hopfully baby getting the message it's time to move down Grin. Just trying the remind myself the end is near..

So many posts to catch up with! I'm on my phone so gonna have a read back through then head to bed. Night all Smile

PenguinArmy · 14/09/2011 23:07

BB3 I didn't really talk until about year 1 of school (I would only whisper to the teacher in R), not a problem now at all Grin (I also didn't sleep well, eat well... how my mum went on to have more I don't know, DD is challenging enough). I hope they don't dwell on it more than needed, all this documentation and recording of milestones in early stages can really hinder some DCs if the nnrure nursery start panicking about it

Penelope1980 · 15/09/2011 00:26

GroovyRach I've had that pain in the last couple of days as well.

How much exercise are you all doing, walking etc? I ask because midwife said if I don't want to go over I should be active, then said active was a couple of 30 mins walks a day. There is no way I can do that - maybe one, but not two! Is it just me or are any of you managing that? I find my lower back gets too sore.
