A new thread for the bus!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Am exhausted - another one who just can't sleep at all! My poor DP is the same though, wonder why? Probably due to all my tossing & turning, but he refuses to sleep in different beds (awww).

On the plus side, 36 weeks today! Got a midwife apmt this morning, and meeting with consultant later today.

Feeling very weepy and pathetic past 2 days. Hope it's just the hormones!

Scheherezade · 14/09/2011 08:47

sorry to hear your troubles bubalie - but it doesn't sound too worrying just yet, baby is still growing and could just be a little one - my friends was a good few weeks behind the 'average' and she's just got a very small little girl! Mine is all over the place with growth dentiles - his femurs are 2/3 weeks ahead of the rest of him, but the rest of gthe centiles are measuring a couple weeks after our due date on the scans - so am coming up as anywhere between 32-38 weeks depending which parft of the body is measured. Just means our little boy is going to have a big head and long legs, like his dad Grin

Scheherezade · 14/09/2011 08:48

*growth centiles

soundofherwings · 14/09/2011 09:03

Sorry to disappoint, still nothing with me. Thought things were starting the other day, had proper painful contractions for 3 hours, but all tailed off again. Dh got some great birthing partner practice though, telling me to breathe etc through the worst ones. I'm getting knackered now, all this contracting makes my muscles ache and even though they mostly don't hurt they're still every 8 minutes and I'm not sleeping well. :-( getting impatient now!
37+5

BB3 · 14/09/2011 09:20

Ah sound I was getting a little bit excited - although every 8 minutes is promising - I am sure LO will be here soon - I think before the weekend Smile. Can you get any rest in the day much? Part of me wants to say rest up but the other part wants you on that bouncy ball and walking for miles to get the baby out Wink

Bubalie if it's any consolation at my scan yesterday one twin was measuring at 35 weeks and the other at 38 weeks and my consultant wasn't worried at all - scanning is never 100% accurate but does give a guide. If I were you I would keep GP appointment and try and get an extra midwife one as well with the same person. Also I had a detailed growth scan at 37 weeks with DS and they said he would be 8-9lb, bigger if he went over his due date and he was a teeny, tiny 6.5lb! After each scan I see my consultant rather than a midwife - could you ask to see a dr at the hospital to confirm? Must just be really frustrating being batted from pillar to post and one person saying one thing and the other contradicting everything. It doesn't sound like you are getting the best advice from all quarters but I agree with Sheherezade that it doesn't sound too scary just yet. Try not to worry. If they were concerned that the baby was in danger they wouldn't let you wait for mw and dr appointments they'd have you in from more scans or admit you for monitoring.

I have managed to get back to sleep for an hour this morning - yay but do have to get up now unfortunately!!!

Sheherezade welcome to the bad sleep club! but yay for 36 weeks - bless DP for struggling through it with you - DH sleeps like a baby through everything. (Is it wrong that this makes me mad!!!) The weepiness is probably a mix of hormones and tiredness (which is likely to only get worse when LO's come and we get even less sleep!!!)

Leo you know on the one side it is really nice but I am THE most impatient person in the world so waiting drives me insane and knowing how long is like water torture in some ways as the days drip by so slowly!!!

Right I am getting out of bed now. I am. Really.

Scheherezade · 14/09/2011 09:25

I have a midwife apmt in half an hour and I'm not even washed or dressed. Maybe if I turn up looking a mess she'll book me in for an early induction Hmm Grin

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 14/09/2011 10:15

Morning all, I'm absolutely exhausted despite getting really good sleep the past few nights. Just can't keep my eyes open, meaning poor DS has been in front of tv all morning and potty training has halted.

Will start back on my spatone today in the hope of getting some energy!
Slightly dissapointed that we don't have any babies yet on the bus, hearing ppl think they were going into labour was making me feel like the end was in sight lol.

GroovyRach · 14/09/2011 10:17

sch I was the same yesterday! Had intended to get up early, wash hair etc but thought sod it, I'd rather the extra time in bed Grin. I looked dreadful!!

Glad to hear I wasn't the only one struggling to sleep last night! Finally drifted off sometime after 3am and eyes wide open again at 7am! (prob didn't help that I had a 2hr nap in the afternoon Wink) but still!! Lol. Decided to get up though and try make the most of my day. So far iv ironed some baby things (so sweet! Although I can't see myself keeping that up once she is here!!), stripped spare room bed as I have people staying in nxt few weeks and it's all in the washing. Sun was out when I decided to do it but sky is looking a wee bit grey now Angry. Typical!!

Gonna go for a swim shortly, willing to try anything to get my pelvis open and this babies head down and engaged. SIL text last night to say she has a big gym ball I can borrow so will spend my evening bouncing around on that. Oh the fun Grin

Don't know if things are a little different here in Scotland, but no one (mw, sonographer etc) have gave me any indication of size of baby. In my notes book there is a graph, but no one has ever plots on it so I guess I just have to assume that all is well. Mw said yesterday when she was prodding about my belly that baby looked a good size. I must admit, I don't have a huge bump, people don't believe when I say I only have a few weeks left. Was starting to think that she must be small but I guess if the professionals aren't worried then neither should I!

Right, off to debate hanging washing out. Have good day all Smile

GroovyRach · 14/09/2011 10:34

Just went into the babies room and one cat is sleeping in the buggy and the other in her cot!!! Need to stamp this out asap!

meravigliosa · 14/09/2011 11:42

Sorry not been here for a while. Still working (though not very effectively. am self-employed so ineffective work just means I can't finish the work and fee, am not cheating an employer). Tired and can't sleep.

Have had numerous calls from mw and gp re iron levels. Asked cons obst about it at hosp appointment last Friday and he prescribed pregaday as gentler on digestion than ferrous sulphate. Get further call from mw on Monday saying she has blood results from Friday, and my iron is low. I tell her about prescription, and she immediately questions whether cons obst has got it right, suggesting I need more ("you could go into labour at any time, and lose blood!") I ask her what hb level was on Friday and turns out it was up marginally (10.1 rather than 10) from a week earlier, and that was just me taking spatone. Got slightly irritated and said I personally was prepared to take the word of the consultant as to what would be appropriate, and eventually she left off.

Sorry for rant. Consultant in previous pregnancy said just leave off the iron (as it was upsetting stomach so much), won't make much difference, not as if you live in the third world. I am alone in feeling that there is something of a flow chart element to how treated by mws -- if X happens, then Y must happen?

Best wishes to all. 36+6

Trudyla · 14/09/2011 11:57

Hello,

can I be a very late joiner? I've been reading for a while but since my due date is 30th October I wasn't sure whether to join October or November. Considering that my other child was 2 weeks early, I opted for here. Hope that's OK.

So yes, I've got one daughter already. She is 13 months old. Does that make me the poster with the smallest age gap between babies? She's gonna be 15 months old by the time this one is supposed to come.

I know it's gonna be a boy, btw.

Everything in pregnancy is going fine so far, apart from a scare early on and from feeling utterly exhausted looking after my DD and working every now and then (self employed). I'm finding this pregnancy much harder than my first one, maybe due to it being so quick after the first. Hmm

Anyway, I'm hoping I will get acquainted quickly. You seem like a nice bunch Grin

Scheherezade · 14/09/2011 12:16

Of course you're welcome trudy but you might get a bit fed up watching all the babies coming in as you're waiting for yours [grin[

Saw midwife, and got told she's leaving in October(!) so I'll be getting a new one just as everything's kicking off, tut!

Baby is still breech (though I knew that) and feet stuck in my pelvis (which I told her) and might make the ECV less likely to work (as I suspected). So my next scan is next week, then they'll book in the ECV. Bit difficult as DP needs to take time off work, and the ECV will be as soon after the scan as poss, so it might make it tricky for him...

I need to start washing & ironing, really then! But the cot is such a useful clothes hanger atm Grin haven't even packed my hospital bag, but it just feels like as he's stuck fast there's no rush.....

Head feels so much of a jumble. Still need to get a stand for the moses basket, pick up changing table (ebay purchase!), get a seperate clothes basket for dirty baby clothes so don't get detergents mixed up, nappy bin. Oh and sort out a bloody pram - the one we were promised doesn't have a cover for the carry cot, and even though the person giving it to us keeps telling us she never used it, and just pushed baby round in car seat, well I'm not happy diong that. Babies need to lie flat, not be all squished up for hours.

Molybdenum · 14/09/2011 12:42

Oh I'm so glad I'm not the only one not sleeping! Was awake between 4 and 7 this morning, had just fallen back into a lovely sleep when DH's alarm went off at 7.30 :(

I'm 38+2 today. Had a lovely 38 week check with the midwife yesterday - baby is in a fantastic position, head 3/5 palpable. I know it's moving down, as I'm now having really quite awful pelvic pain. The midwife referred to it as SPD, but I would disagree with the 'D' bit (dysfunction), as my pubic symphysis is not malfunctioning but rather functioning exactly as it should at this stage of pregnancy! Anyway, physiologically normal or not, it bloody hurts and has been causing me much discomfort for the past week. Luckily I saw my acupuncturist who said she has always had amazing success treating SPD with acupuncture. It feels soooooo much better now after having her put some points in. Anyone else suffering - please do seek out a good acupuncturist.

I think we're sort of prepared for the homebirth now. We have the pool, a liner, a cover, some hosing for filling it, a pump for emptying it, plastic sheets to go on the furniture. Hopefully that covers it! I'm trying to do my hypnobirthing relaxation CD every day (but keep falling asleep about five minutes in!), having chiropractic treatment every week to keep the pelvis open and aligned, having weekly acupuncture, doing pregnancy yoga classes - everything I can think of to prepare for a straight forward birth.

It's so strange to think that I'll have a baby anytime in the next four weeks...... eeek!

PenguinArmy · 14/09/2011 13:51

now have car seat, nappies and a moses basket set up, figure that's all I need so baby can come now if it wants Grin

Had growth scan, everything seems fine and they reckon he'll be the size of his sister. Still don't have a consultant appt. yet, would be nice to see if I can have a CS before labour.

Yep sleep here is shite, heartburn was only really a problem when I was at the ILs GrinHmm

erm think that's mainly it, stuck in today as apparently the buggy is due for arrival before 15:00

will attempt to read (some) of the back thread

BB3 · 14/09/2011 14:25

Afternoon all - today seems to be flying by

Groovy you can get cat cover things for cots and moses baskets to discourage them I think.

Hey Merav Glad you are standing your ground.

Hey Trudyla welcome - oooh I think it might make you the youngest age gap. Yay for a little boy!

Sheh my mw left last week - so my last few weeks are with a random 'interim' mw! Oh well, only a few more weeks - hey!!!

Moly I think you are officially they most organised and relaxed one of us all!

penguin glad growth scan is all sorted and you are back online

Leo how did trace go today?

Dropped DS off at nursery this afternoon and burst into tears leaving him (he was very upset). Just feel so sorry for him at the moment - everything is changing at home with the babies and we are in the process of getting some help for his speech delay so everyone at nursery are focusing so heavily on his 'negative' areas. I just want to grab him and give him a cuddle and take him away from it all... Sad

MrsHende · 14/09/2011 14:30

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who was awake at an ungodly hour this morning, I should have come on here instead of wandering the flat feeling sorry for myself!

I have just come home from work feeling grim - my third UTI in four weeks. Argh!!!!! Water, cranberry juice and antibiotics (which will quite likely give me yet another dose of thrush) seem to be my regular diet at the moment.

So, feeling sorry for myself all round. I hate being off work as I know it just creates more work for other people who are already snowed under, I just don't know if I'm going to make it for the next four weeks before mat leave starts.

Off for a nap, will hopefully wake up feeling a bit more cheery.

33 + 4

Trudyla · 14/09/2011 15:12

Thanks for the welcome.

moly Exciting day, 38+2, this is when I had my baby daughter Grin

BB3 I know exactly how you feel about your little boy. I have pangs of feeling so guilty about all the changes I'm bringing into DD's life while she is still only a baby. But I keep telling myself that it will be all worth it and that she will have a sibbling to adore and play with and that she will be so happy about it. We really wanted such a short gap, but I don't think any mother ever stops feeling guilty, do they.

Scheh I know I might get really fed up being one of the later ones. It was brought home just by moly's mentioning of being 38+2. On the other hand, it will get me even more excited and ready for my new arrival Smile

Jane4321 · 14/09/2011 15:14

MrsHende :( Sounds pretty miserable for you. Hope your nap at least makes you feel a little more rested. Any chance you can bring your ML forward at all?

I came home from work early today too. It makes me feel very guilty, even tho there wasn't a lot I really needed to do there to be honest, I've handed a lot of it over already. I still hate it tho...
I am just so tired (not sleeping - like most of you!), v painful back and leg blah blah...

LO is breach (after weeks of head down - grrr) so I'm manically rocking and bouncing on my ball :) Going to go swimming with DH next week see if that moves her.

Finished our NCT classes last week. So glad we did them - have met a great bunch of Mums and it was an all-round lovely experience.
Has anyone else done them?

Getting quite inpatient now, want ML to hurry up and come, and then LO!

Jane4321 · 14/09/2011 15:14

oh, and 35+1

sassy34264 · 14/09/2011 15:34

trudy my twins are 13month old (yesterday) so im equal to you with the littlest gap.

bubalie i feel your frustration. there is no ryhme or reason to midwifey at all. its like they didnt all learn feom the same textsbooks!

i have been out for 4 and 1/2 hours today, to go to my hospital appointment. (4 bus round trip) had a scan and they have estimated the babies weight at 6lbs 7ozs. jeez. i hope they are way out!
was feeling really tired and must of looked miserable cos they all kept asking if im ok, do you need help etc. cheered up in the scan though cos i saw a really clear picture of the babies face. never had a face picture before- burst into tears- it was so lovely. they have give me pictures and the one from the side looks like its overdosed on collagen injections! massive massive lips- its freaky looking. good job it looks normal from the front. i will put it on my profile in a minute. Grin

sassy34264 · 14/09/2011 15:37

baby's not babies! makes it sound like im having 2 again.

Leo4 · 14/09/2011 15:44

Everyone who asked about the trace...The babies HB is normal but there arent many accelerations or fetal movement...the midwife said it is probably due to the fact baby has little room to move and in the last stages of pregnancy....it's very weird for me as baby has been very active during whole pregnancy. I've got an ultrasound tomorrow so I'm sure they will check it out further...perhaps they will induce me :) wishful thinking

moly what a good idea ... I am suffering with SPD...and I might try an acupuncturist out...never heard of doing that before!

Jane I wouldnt worry too much my baby has literally just turned around and I'm 37+1 today! And yes I love NCT classes I would recommend them to everyone

sound sorry to hear its a false alarm and you are still having contractions..it must be horrible for all this time! Hopefully you are taking some kind of painkillers to ease the pain!

BB3 Yes I see what you mean that if you know it drags like hell!! It's dragging for me anyway can't wait to meet my LO!

Bubalie It just sounds like your baby is slightly small and they are being precautious...they have to be for many reasons! I've got a baby on the larger side and they don't want to let him/her get too big haha!

Got my pram yesterday and I love it....mmm so happy! :)

PenguinArmy · 14/09/2011 15:45

jeez indeed, Nigel last Sat was 4lbs 15oz which I thought was good going. Not sure I could do 4 hours out

Buggy just arrived, 18 month DD has never known the joy of boxes before and is loving them.

I've not found a NCT group here yet, shame I can't be a first time mum again and meet other mums through the classes.

Jane DD is going to one nap a day now which is at the time I can't sleep. I shall miss my morning naps a lot.

Leo4 · 14/09/2011 15:46

sassy how many weeks are you...that is rather large :) I reckon big is not a bad thing though :) x

sassy34264 · 14/09/2011 15:52

34 today.
