Leo apparently if you go swimming and keep diving down (not from the side just from in the water) that's supposed to help turn them too. Maybe a bit of gym ball bouncing might assist as well!

Envying you all on maternity leave Envy

Thanks for the advice Cheshire I love going swimming...so I might give that a go! :) When do you go on maternity?

bilblio · 06/09/2011 21:18

Leo4 Don't give up hope, and don't assume breech means a caesarean, it's just more likely. My brother was born breech, and back-to-back, Mum just had G&A. I was breech until 2 hours before giving birth, turned and arrived in a hurry, they didn't even get the G&A sorted in time! Shock
But yes also ask MW for exercises that might promote turning, and lots of bouncing on Gym balls. There were lots of breech babies on my last ante-natal thread so most people took to bouncing whilst posting... and mis-typing :o

Bubalie Sterilisers - I exclusively BF last time, we started introducing bottles at 7 months so we borrowed a microwave steriliser from my SIL. All it was was a tupperware container big enough for bottles with a valve on the top and you put 1cm of water in the bottom. So this time around if I can't borrow it again I'll just use a tupperware container... or the dishwasher. Again on the last ante-natal thread we had some ex-pats in the states and no one sterilises things over there as they have dishwashers.
To be honest we got very lax with it by the time we were using bottles too because by that point DD was putting everything in her mouth, so she'd get far worse germs off the floor than a bottle. We washed bottles in the dishwasher, or in very hot water then left them to air dry.
Obviously if you're bottle feeding from early on you probably shouldn't do this :) It all depends on how often you're likely to use it, and how early.

Another bad night's sleep last night. I don't know what I've done to make my back and SPD so much worse in the past 2 days, but I wish it would get better again. I was planning on spending Thursday sorting out our room so that LO has somewhere to sleep. But I think I'm just going to rest. Friday I'm back in work helping man a stand about the services we offer... though in my case it will be a sit.
BB3 yes, you're right I need to just let go with work. To be honest I've felt so rough today that I've started to look forward to finishing... and since the scan yesterday I've finally started to feel excited!
I have still told my boss to phone me whenever she gets stuck, (we're a team of 2, she has the clinical skills, I have the organisational ones.) After maternity leave last time I felt like I'd had a lobotomy... and I had a job which didn't involve thinking then either... so I'm determined to keep my brain going this time... I might even bring a few journals home!

Right bed time! Night all!

PenguinArmy · 06/09/2011 21:49

I have a MW! and internet just for 2 nights while I'm staying away.

We have moved in, have a consultant appt. to discuss delivery and a growth scan sorted out. Am back to just 4cm short, but MW is unconcerned considering my bump feels all baby and how extraordinarily active he is (too active!)

Will catch up later...hopefully. If not see you all in yet another week (bloody internet companies)

soundofherwings · 06/09/2011 22:08

Had a bit of a scare today since baby hadn't moved much and usually she's wriggling like mad. Even a bath didn't wake her up, and usually if I get in the bath she goes mental, so I started to worry and went into the hospital for monitoring. My poor DH, he was so stressed in the car on the way there- but everything is fine, she started kicking like mad the minute the trace was on.

And more good news, her head is now engaged, and I'm getting pretty regular braxton hicks (mostly painless thankfully), so looks like things are moving in the right direction. I feel much better now she's dropped- bump is obviously lower, I'm less breathless and feeling less squashed and my ribs have stopped hurting! Has anyone else engaged yet?

sassy34264 · 06/09/2011 22:11

thanks for all your well wishes. i dont bring good news though. she had her results yesterday and she has stage 3 cancer. stage 1 is the best and stage 4 is the worst. the stats for stage 3 cervical cancer are 30%-50% are still alive after 5 years. everyone is reeling and cant believe it.
i dont want to bring the whole thread down when its such an exciting time for everyone, so i wont go on and on about it. just to say, she is starting chemo asap.

hello to all the newbies and the returners. i have read all the posts but there is no way i can take in who has said what at the minute! my head is mashed and not just from sil. i'm also having a crap time with sleep. its not that i dont sleep when im asleep Confused (although i am going to the toilet a 100times a night) i just cant seem to actually fall asleep for hours. 8.30 to bed last night, gone midnight before i fell asleep. im the worst tired person in the world. i cant function, i cant think of words, even the most basic words and look like im a bit simple. couldnt think of the word door tonight! trying to tell dd1 to hang her uniform on the door and got stuck.

with regards to sterilising if you havent got a microwave. 11yrs ago when i had dd1, i just used a big tub, filled it with cold water and dropped a milton steriliser tablet in it. takes longer to be sterilised but worked all the same. i breast fed the twins exclusively until they were over 5 months, so as you can stop sterilising at 6 months, i just use to fill /submerge all bottles, bowls, spoons etc in boiling water for a few minutes. im going to express this time though, so i have bought a microwave steriliser.

sassy am so sorry - was thinking about you and your DP yesterday. There's not much I can say really apart from take care of yourselves and I hope she defies all the odds to come through the other side xxx

Leo4 · 06/09/2011 22:43

sound of her wings so jealous your babys head is engaged! Its just that feeling of relief if you go into labour your baby is the ready and in the right position!

Leo4 · 07/09/2011 01:20

me too..so tired...night!!!

Penelope1980 · 07/09/2011 03:01

soundofherwings am jealous your baby is engaged, I thought mine was moving but looks like wishful thinking. I am 37 weeks now so really feeling like it could be at any time, but not wanting to get hopes up in case it's not.

I spent three hours at the hospital today to find out that my blood pressure is borderline but not a problem which is good - there was a woman there with really high BP and only 24 weeks gone, talking to her put into perspective how lucky we are to have got to this stage when birth is not always ideal but not a danger (for me anyway and those of us further along).

Is anyone having a baby shower? I am this weekend - always thought they were a tad tacky but my sister insisted and now I find myself looking forward to it. Are you lot? Most people I know seem to have them now or have had them for their first.

BB3 · 07/09/2011 06:15

Penelope glad bp is ok (well ish).

Any luck with the sleep ladies? I seem to be doing ok apart from having to turn / get up for the toilet when I get horrendous bump pains! DS seems to have settled a bit, still stirs but goes back to sleep either in his or our bed so I'm able to go back to sleep fairly easily.

I'm struggling with the bump pain though - since last night I've had really strong pains under my bump and through to my back. Don't think it's anything labour-like as it doesn't come and go seems to be constantly there with occasional strengthening. Although I would love the babies to come today as it's my very, very much loved grandads birthday, I also have one of my best friends weddings Friday and don't want to miss that!!!

It's the first day of nursery today for DS - hope he loves it! It's only half day this afternoon but still. Am so disorganised, haven't even got him a bag for it!! [bad mummy emoticon].

LittlePebble · 07/09/2011 07:37

sassy thinking of your sil and family x
bb3 goodness you don't think you might be going into labour do you? How exciting that would be keep us posted Smile
Leo in my pregnancy yoga class they say the best position is on all fours so if you can spend time each day doing that it might encourage LO to move.
Penelope glad blood pressure is ok hopefully it won't be too long for you now.
I wonder who will be the first of us to pop? Bets anyone?
My pelvis is agony today but have the day off so going to try and rest it. Have midwife again and am very nervous after last week but tiny has been wriggling all morning so hopefully she'll find the heartbeat nice and clear this time.
And only have 7 days left at work Grin

BB3 · 07/09/2011 09:02

pebble no I don't think so - think it's more likely to be everything softening up and preparing for it as it's not regular at all. I'm under strict instructions not to have the babies this week (DH has horrendous week at work, wedding Friday and DS at nursery) so would just be my luck for these two to continue their difficult streak! I'm also only 35+1 so a bit early for them yet! Have taken some paracetamol and it's easing ever so slightly!

Good luck at your mw - and enjoy your rest day xxx

Bubalie · 07/09/2011 09:08

Morning ladies, I've slept until now yipeeeee - first day since I've started my maternity (3 days ago) where I wasn't up and awake at 6am!

EdwardorEric thank you for your advice re Buzz 3, I will make sure it's serviced as we have pretty much decided to go for it. I've got 20% off buggies and car seats voucher from Boots parenting club so the buggy and the car seat would cost £440-20% off which makes it the best deal out there, so will buy other bits like footmuff and rain cover etc. separately.

Biblio I also plan to breastfeed if I can, although have bought a couple of bottles just in case as being a first timer I don't know what to expect. That's why I thought I should get steriliser, but have started to think if I really do need one as DH can go and get one if needed..

Soundofherwings lucky you baby now engaged. Does it feel any different? I have MW appointment tomorrow so will se what she says, although my MIL thinks my bump has 'dropped' but I don't think it has.

Experienced mummy's can you really feel when baby is engaged? I'm a bit clueless when it comes to this, at the moment baby moves and things 'stick out' on the side of my stomach and mostly I am thinking, now is that a head, a bum, an elbow? I feel like a terrible mom already by not knowing which part of my child is sticking out!

sassy sorry about the bad news, hope it all goes well, all you can do is be there for support but look after yourself and your baby too.

Penelope my neighbours threw me a baby shower a couple of weeks ago and it was really nice. Not too big just a few of us girls, but everyone made a fuss, we played some baby related games, had some nice food and it was really nice. Enjoy :)

I'm going to pack baby's hospital bag today as have now ironed all the clothes and the nursery is pretty much done.. I seem to have lots of clothes as it took me hour and a half to iron it all yesterday, but now I am confused what to pack and have I bought the right things - especially baby grows etc. I have a few all in ones with the long sleeves and feet on. Then I have long sleeve ones with no feet, short sleeves one with no feet, then baby vests with long sleeves, short sleeves, no sleeves... What do i pack for hospital for early October baby?! I've got hats, mittens, velour all in one to take them out of hospital in, but all these vests and babygros are just so confusing?! Help please!!

Hope everyone has a nice day, and sorry for the long post!

Penelope1980 · 07/09/2011 09:20

bb3 my sleep isn't great - I tend to sleep really badly one night, but then better the next as am so tired, then badly again the next night. Being off work is great in terms of naps, but sometimes they leave me feeling worse if I end up sleeping really deeply in the afternoon!

Bubalie I am interested in the advice on clothes too, so far have just packed a random selection and hope they'll be fine. Mum is coming to stay this weekend and i can't wait to go through it all with her.

BB3 · 07/09/2011 09:31

In terms of clothes for DS and these two we just had / have a selection (3 sets for each) of white vests, all in ones, mittens and hats. Then DH (or my mum) bring in more clothes if needed. DS was a lanky little begger and kept leaking out his nappy so went through about 5 vests and all in ones while I was in but then in fairness they were so big for him as I was told he would be 8-9pm so got newborn and 0-3 and he came out at 6lb!!! I tend not to take outfits as such to the hospital as they just lay in the crib and sleep but DH will bring a simple going home outfit and plenty of blankets (and the car seats) on going home day for these two. While you are in the hospital will have plenty of blankets etc.

BB3 · 07/09/2011 09:32

8-9lb!!

BB3 · 07/09/2011 09:33

Oh and in terms of engagement - with DS I felt more pressure down there but still same about of wiggling and kicking in my belly! Also the further engaged he got the more my waddle picked up!

PenguinArmy · 07/09/2011 09:38

No engagement here, but he's lying wonky. If he stays that way he could not engage until labour

34+4

sassy34264 · 07/09/2011 09:42

buballe i suppose it depends on how cold it is, but i personally would put the vests with sleeves on and baby grows with feet on in the hospital and perhaps the long sleeve vest for going home. the sleeveless and the footless, i would use at home when they are in central heating- definately put socks on with footless though- but you might find baby will keep kicking them off! its a bugger to keep scratch mittens on them, nevermind socks as well. i think the general rule is they should have 1 maybe 2 more layers on than us. i find it useful to feel under the chin- around their neck. if its just warm they are ok, but if the are sticky/clamy etc, they are too hot.

bb3 feel straight to sleep after that post last night.....thank god. unfortunately with dd1 starting high school yesterday, im now back to having to get up to an alarm. booooo.

Bumpsadaisie · 07/09/2011 10:24

Bubablie

Its really trial and error with the clothes. Feel their tummies and if they feel nice and cosy warm but not hot, then they've probably got the right amount on!

Don't feel hands and feet as in little babies the extremities are always colder and you will end up overheating them if you go by hands and feet temp.

Re baby engaging, I found in the last two weeks when the head was right down, I really felt like my pelvis was being pushed apart and had some painful moments walking when it felt like my hip joints were going to snap!

They say second babies don't really engage until labour though, don't they? So that must mean its heartburn and breathlessness all the way till 40 weeks, oh no!
