Hello, not sure if there's a similar thread already but just thought I'd create somewhere for nayone else expecting in April 2012?

I actually conceived about 3wks ago but I think this counts as week 5? Just staring to get symptoms - headaches, little stirrings of nausea, getting tired and grumpier than usual lol.

A little bit concerned because I have a LOT of work on from now until October and maybe beyond - and I think I'm just going to want to sleep and puke through it all - hell! :( d'oh.

Tried the soda Test for a laugh but I couldn't interpret the result. It fizzed but not loud enough for me to hear it without putting my ear really close to the cup. ?!?

CosmicMouse I would say stick with it at least for another 2 or 3 weeks and see how it goes. That extra income could pay for all the baby stuff.

SurprisEs · 25/08/2011 18:35

Didn't think of the holidays. Good idea.

CosmicMouse · 25/08/2011 18:52

Beyond - nope no holiday pay. If I don't work I don't get paid. And I don't think he'd agree to me taking a few weeks off as he'd need to hire someone else to cover me!

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 25/08/2011 19:07

Hmm, I think if its 3 nights a week and youre quite sure you'll be okay in a few weeks, I'd grin and bear it...

It could well be only six shifts until you feel hunky dory again?

MeconiumHappens · 25/08/2011 19:45

cosmicI too would grin and bear it, its not ideal but its only three nights a week and you may well feel better soon. Plus, some extra £ for lovely baby things is always a bonus.

when skies good luck for your scan, hopefully its just a blip and baby will be growing nicely despite the worry for you, it is often the case.

Five weeks today, i have on board a little apple seed apparently :)
I also have sicky heartburn feeling, from a little apple seed?!

CosmicMouse · 25/08/2011 20:07

Thanks all. I forgot to mention I was sick with DD until about 24 weeks Hmm so the "I could feel better soon" statement was more hope than actually based upon reality! Hmmmm...

Bearcrumble · 26/08/2011 09:05

Hi - I am due with DC2 around the 16th April.

DS (18m) was an IVF baby so we're very surprised (and happy). I had what I thought was a light-ish period but started to feel sick the day after so I tested and it was positive.

I didn't have the easiest pregnancy with DS (my placenta was crap basically and he wasn't growing properly and my blood pressure was going up so he had to come out by c/s at 35 weeks whereupon they discovered I have a bicornuate uterus).

I went along to our EPU this week and they saw a heartbeat so I am a little more reassured but obviously I'm nervous about all of the above plus my age (I'm 38).

I haven't read the whole thread yet but I will - looking forward to getting to know you all.

WhenDoISleep · 26/08/2011 09:24

Hi, nice to see that lots more April ladies have joined the thread since I last posted.

I saw the doctor on Monday for my antenatal referral. She wasn't exactly very encouraging about my plans for a home birth (DS was born at home) - plus there is a chance that my preferred hospital will have filled it's April 12 quota for patients. Hmm, will have to wait and see on both points.

Anybody else having to upgrade to a bigger car due to the new arrival? Last time we were naive first-time buyers and literally walked into the first dealership and said this is the budget, what can we get? Luckily it all worked out fine and I love my little car. It isn't practical with a larger family though so we are looking for a bigger car which means DH is pouring over reviews etc.

I am definitely not joining some of you in the cheese-eaters club. I had some last week and all I could taste afterwards was a horrible fatty taste in my mouth. It is also happening with chocolate Shock and other high fat food, so my diet is entirely bland atm, lots of fruit, salads and protien. It also means that I have dropped a few pounds since finding out. I have to admit I was still carrying 2 stone from my last pregnancy Blush Blush so it's not like I don't have it to spare. I put on nearly 4 stone with DS and I am not one of those who lose it while breastfeeding. I was hoping to lose a little before conceiving DC2 as I really don't want it to be an issue with this pregnancy. Anyway, this time round I am going to be watching what I eat a lot more so I don't pile on anything like the same amount of weight - although last time I did start eating for England as soon as I found out Blush.

Other than the strange fatty taste, my only symptom is increased tiredness (but some of that is due to DS sleeping badly again and getting up at the crack of dawn). I was exactly the same with DS though, it just seems to be the way that I 'do' pregnancy.

whenskies I hope everything is OK for you.

cosmic I would try to stick it out for a few more weeks to see it improves as you get into the 2nd trimester. Do you have anyone who can take DD for a few hours on work days so that you can get some rest before going in?

"I am definitely not joining some of you in the cheese-eaters club. I had some last week and all I could taste afterwards was a horrible fatty taste in my mouth. It is also happening with chocolate"

I can;t even look at chocolate right now!

kat2504 · 26/08/2011 11:46

I've taken the liberty of starting a stats thread for us as everyone else seems to have one!

I went off chocolate for a bit but had a chocolate biscuit earlier and it was ok. I can't drink coffee at all any more though and tea makes me burp like crazy!

themightyskim · 26/08/2011 12:07

Good luck whenskysaregrey x

I ended up having an early scan after nights yesterday morning, the benefits of working in A&E lol, I was first there after a night of terrible cramping, every thing seems ok now, although according to the scan im only 5 weeks today not the seven I thought, cant get the dates straight in my head at all!!!

KittyAnne · 27/08/2011 11:25

Hey ladies. Congrats to everyone on the April babies. My due date is April 25th. Feeling sick, tired, emotional and have torpedo tits. Nice to meet you all. x

MeconiumHappens · 27/08/2011 11:36

kittyanne your last two sentences may me laugh out loud! Only on a preg thread would you see that kind of an intro!
whendoI Take no notice of your gp being a downer on home birth. Most gp's have little experience of birth since doing a rotation 15 yrs ago with complicated obsteetric stuff. Speak to your midwife, for low risk people homebirth is fab! and you already know because you've already doen it :)

Empusa · 27/08/2011 12:16

Off to see the midwife in a little while Grin

knittymum23 · 27/08/2011 12:52

Whew, there's a lot of us now!

I had a reassurance scan, and they've put me back a week. Being a bit organised and knowing they're wrong, I'm keeping myself at the 2nd April until my 13 week scan in just over 4 weeks... we saw a heartbeat, which was great.

Since then I've developed the most evillest of back pains, so much so I can't sit down for long - and it's getting worse. I can only hope its going to pass soon, as it doesn't feel like last time. Paracetamol, arnica gel and a hot water bottle down the back of my trousers just isn't working.. if anyone has any good suggestions, please let me know!

I'm back testing for diabetes after having it with DD and I'm already getting high readings which I'm gutted about. I suspect I'll be put on Metformin next week when I go for my next appointment... how annoying... I was hoping it wouldn't come back at all, or at least if it did, that I'd be around 25 weeks. Going to the clinics every couple of weeks with a toddler who'd rather be anywhere else will not be fun... a friend told me you can't be induced twice - does anyone know if this is the case? I've got my booking in with midwife in just over a week too, so everything's slowly moving again... creakkkk... (that's me there and my 41 year old body)

KittyAnne · 27/08/2011 18:39

I'm also looking forward to getting to know you all and following everyone's stories. Especially as DP and myself are completely clueless. (His most recent question, in earnest: 'when are you allowed to take them to the pub?') I have first GP appointment on Tuesday. What exactly goes on then? See- completely clueless. @Meconium- funny because it's true..

Also, are antenatal classes a crock of shit, or will I learn something?

digitalgirl · 27/08/2011 19:13

Hello kittyanne - ime Nct classes was an expensive 'networking' experience. You meet people in your area who are due about the same time. This is really handy because when your baby is 6 weeks old and making it out of the house is an achievement in itself you will be pleased you have someone nearby going through it too who you can meet for a coffee and swap sleepless night horror stories with. My ds is nearly three and we still see three of the families we met through Nct ante natal classes. So I think it was worth it. But as far as 'learning' I actually learnt more from some incredibly helpful mums on my ante-natal thread here on mumsnet!

Snowy27 · 27/08/2011 19:22

Anyone else getting major mood swings?
Today's best- threw a bowl on the kitchen floor as it was messing up the dishwasher stacking system and the plates wouldn't fit in.
Then sat on the floor and cried.

Bearcrumble · 27/08/2011 20:14

Oh yes Snowy - had 2 cries today. 1st was reading the 'it happened to me' thing in the Guardian magazine and second was watching some baby programme on Discovery home and health.

Empusa · 27/08/2011 20:28

I've been crying about nothing!

Was reading my pregnancy book, it had a bit on what the dad would do after the birth, and all it said was "you'll probably want to phone friends and family to share the news" and I sobbed.

I mean, really?! Blush

Empusa · 27/08/2011 21:20

Oh, forgot, midwife has said that (until the dating scan says differently) my due date is April 1st 2012

Snowy27 · 27/08/2011 21:24

Just had a very tummy-soothing glass of hot milk with 2tsp of honey, vanilla essence and cinnamon- settled my tummy really well and would deff recommend it! Usually I hate hot milk too!
Also henna-d my hair- I usually dye it red but not sure about using dye, turned out pretty well if a bit strange when putting it on, smells a lot nicer than the usual stuff too!
Hope everyone's ok!

Empusa · 27/08/2011 21:25

That sounds lovely Snowy I'll have to remember that!

I want to dye my hair, but seeing as everything I've read says it'll be growing really fast now, I'm not sure I can be bothered with the roots.

Must get it cut at some point though.

Thusnelda · 27/08/2011 22:17

knittymum, that back ache sounds horrible, unfortunately no idea what to do about it. As to taking a toddler to the hospital for hour-long waiting sessions, I'm not looking forward to it either. If I have the booking-in at the hospital this time my partner will have to take the day off to look after DD - I do believe they are entitled to time off, even if the idea is probably to come along to the appointments...
