I'm working to 38 weeks too then 2 weeks leave and starting mat leave on the day after due date. I want as much time after baby arrives before go back to work as can so health withstanding am gonna tough out work as long as I can.

Feeling quite uncomfortable when sitting down these days anyone else struggling?

Also absolutely horrified by my weight gain hoping some of it is due to my lack of loo action for a week Sad at least it all seems to have gone on as bump not gained anywhere else (I can see anyway).

kri5ty · 22/08/2011 07:23

YBR railways worker here also... but only catering so not very important lol, however i am looking forward very muchly to not working christmas day or boxing day this year... or even new years day!! Lovely maternity leave!

kri5ty · 22/08/2011 07:24

ooo figgy i didnt know you could do that, my work told me i had to start my actual mat leave 2 weeks before, the cheeky things!

kri5ty · 22/08/2011 07:25

(i really need to finish typing before post messages!)

Ps... yup i am struggling sitting down. i am also struggling putting tights/ shoes on, i can't bend down to do it.
Re weight: my bum hasn't got any bigger this week, but my sides and back have! :(

figgygal · 22/08/2011 07:51

I dint think they can force u to start ur leave until baby actually arrives so could say wanted your mat leave start date 2 weeks after due date technically it then just triggers when baby arrives but that was a little much.

Got 24 week appt tomorrow anyone had it yet, know what happens? I'm sure I don't have a wee jar from my last appt better phone them today see if I need 1 imagine I do.

kri5ty · 22/08/2011 08:03

figgy they will have loads when you turn up. I have mine next week (25 weeks)

Well to be honest i think they will force me to take my maternity early as i am feeling shite and will be going off sick tomorrow if im no better... again my work are sneeky and told me they can force me to take it around 10 weeks earlier... found out of the government website its only 4!!

kri5ty · 22/08/2011 08:03

Ps i think its a wee test/ blood preasure and listen to heart beat?

LondonGirly · 22/08/2011 09:00

Had mine last week, they checked blood pressure, wee check, listened to the baby's heartbeat and then measured bump length.

I have had a very odd looking bump this weekend, he has been moving around and it has been really strange to see!

Got a swimming costume at the weekend, I'm hoping swimming will help with back pain...and I don't look huge in it!!

How were your weekends?

kri5ty · 22/08/2011 10:51

yayyy i finally get to hear the heartbeat at this one?? lol

i still havent seen mine move yet, but OH felt him kick yesterday which was nice for him ... he kept telling me that it was too early for him to feel it from the outide, he wouldnt believe me lol

mopsytop · 23/08/2011 09:49

I haven't seen mine move either, can't really feel it from the outside yet but it is a right little wriggler/kicker from inside! Have heard heartbeat twice now, is really fast compared to ours!

Hi All... how is it going? I have had a massive 2 weeks what with painting the flat and the move etc. We have managed to paint everything now and last week was all about getting deliveries for furniture... which I think is done for the most part. At the mo the nursery has become the "rubbish" room and is filled to the brim with empty boxes, styrofoam, packing materials etc... waiting till tomorrow when we can finally throw it all out.

I am so bloody tired too as we have been sleeping on an air mattress for the last week... our bed + mattress arrive today THANK GOD!!!

plus I don't even remember what sex is... ! We practically fall asleep even before landing on the mattress... I think the last time was something like 3 weeks ago!!!

figgygal · 23/08/2011 12:59

24 week appointment over with all remains fine heard the heartbeat and was reassured she didnt immediately march me to the scales when i walked in and on measurement the bump was a normal size. Benefit of being tall is that bump is elongated so not immense despite the 1 stone plus weight gain bad point means get lightheaded easier with my low BP. Ante natal classes booked, Mat B1 got and 28 week appt scheduled, its all a bit scary isnt it.

Oh and it looks like the wrist pain is carpal tunnell and there is not much can do about it other than a splint if gets really bad, i couldnt even wash my hair this morning with my left hand as was so painful across my wrist and into my hand so that's something to look forward to for the next few months. Need to exercise it as soon as i wake up but blimey does it hurt but if that is the worst that happens throughout the pregnancy i am counting self lucky!!

More clothes arrived from mother last night i now have big piles of newborn and 0-3 months stuff and 1 tshirt for 3-6 months, must not buy any clothes, must not buy any clothes etc.

Good work on the house lala bet you glad its almost over!!

starjules · 23/08/2011 16:06

Hello all, I've been lurking for a while but thought I would finally say hello. I am nearly 22 weeks with my first which has been confirmed by 4d scan that is is a little girl, she had her legs closed at the hospital so they couldn't tell!

Already got the nursery sorted its all pink and white just need to make lots of lovely bunting to finish it off. Had a little shop over the weekend but it wasn't intentional I just saw some very cute baby grows and tiny pink shoes.

I am only little so am already huge but lucky just on the bump, nobody can believe I have so far to go.
And if you couldn't tell I am very very excited.

mopsytop · 23/08/2011 16:11

congrats on the move lala, hope you can chill out a bit now and enjoy your sleep in a proper bed!

figgy great about hearing heartbeat! But bummer about carpal tunnel. I have pelvic girdle pain and it sucks so I heartily sympathise.

Welcome starjules, congrats on little girl! I seem to be the only person who is doing zero to nursery (baby will sharing my study so I don't want too much of a baby theme).

Yesterday evening went to M&S to be fitted for a bra (need a bigger size AGAIN, ) and the lady was saying oh it'll a bit one (re: size of my bump). That was my first bump size comment. Absolute nonsense of course, my bump is exactly average for 22 weeks. Made me chuckle to myself though - all these random strangers acting like they're experts on midwifery!

mopsytop · 23/08/2011 16:12

oops she was saying 'oh it'll be a big one', ugh can't type!

Hi all. Had the no movement panic this morning but called the community midwives phoneline and they were fabulous. They booked someone to come round and then of course he moved half an hour later. Cup of tea on bump seems to make him move. Feel a bit mean though.

Awomancalledhorse · 23/08/2011 17:32

Welcome starjules!

mopsy, we're not doing any baby style decorating here either! Glad to know I'm not the only one.

I've started putting on weight again, which for the first time in my life is a 'woohoo' moment! Have put on 6lbs this week!!

figgygal, don't buy anymore clothes!! Think of ironing with carpal tunnel (sorry you've got it).

NorthernChinchilla · 23/08/2011 20:46

Yay, always glad when another lurker joins...though I was the only one for ages.

God lala sleeping on an air mattress must've been hell...falling into bed at the end of the day is my highlight (bought new mattress at new year). Bugger to hear about the carpal figgy: think it's one of the many things people don't tell you about for pregnancy, the aches and pains that just seem par for the course. I'm limping so slowly with sciatica I have strangers in the street checking I'm OK.

Actually spent Sunday on the beach, wearing bikini (cough!) for some of it, and went in the sea, which I don't think the wee man appreciated. When we were curled up in bed, my DP actually felt him kick though me in the small of his back, so he's really going for it!

Funny how we're all starting to get the 'bump' comments by all and sundry now: it was the lady on the checkout tonight, although to be fair she was both a) 21 wks pregnant herself and b) complementary about my bump, so that's fine- considering some of the comments some posters have received I'm delighted!

Hope you felt better today kir5ty- did you make it into work?

newartriotstar · 23/08/2011 21:07

Hi everybody, hope everyone is well!

I'm not doing nursery stuff either. We're in rented accommodation at the moment but planning/hoping to buy in the next year so baby will get a proper room in the new house! It'll be in with us for the first 6 months here anyway.

I don't seem to be putting on much weight yet. The bump is growing but I've only put on 3kg so far, possibly more technically as I think I lost weight in the 1st 12 weeks due to sickness/nausea.

lalababy · 24/08/2011 14:27

hey all... well as for nursery... I had all these grand plans, but the move has been so bloody tiring that I couldn't be bothered! Its exactly the same with the baby shopping... I was really excited about buying all this stuff... but now the thought of waddling my way through oxford street... NO WAY! Instead I'd rather concentrate on getting the rest of the house sorted.

I believe there is a baby show on in London at the end of October... so maybe will get everything in one go then. In the meanwhile I think DH and I can concentrate on ourselves and a bit of romance... before the lil rugrat decides to keep us up all night.

Chinchilla so jealous re the beach... I would love to go too!

mopsy Someone at work looked at my bump and said "did you just grow over the weekend? How big are you gonna get?" Blah... how F* should I know how big I am gonna get... I mean I still fit into my old low waisted pants!

Figgy hope your wrist starts feeling better. Will it get better post pregnancy?

kristy hope you are feeling better too... don't let the guys at work manipulate you!

Stajules Welcome aboard

figgygal · 24/08/2011 17:39

Apparently carpal tunnel is quite common in pg and just goes pretty much straight after birth so will just have to put up with it. My boss said today if I'm suffering with it I'll prob get massive cankels too ....... Er thanks for that Envy

mopsytop · 24/08/2011 17:45

what are cankels figgy? Sounds grim!

OP posts:
figgygal · 24/08/2011 18:27

Fat ankles where u can't tell where your calves stop and your ankles merge I think.

Got excited earlier as saw a picture of Kathryn heigl from greys anatomy pushing her little girl in a baby jogger.... I've got one of those!!!

newartriotstar · 24/08/2011 20:10

I've always had cankles! I dread to think what they could end up looking like!

NorthernChinchilla · 24/08/2011 21:14

Telling you that you'll get cankles is such a mean thing to say to a pregnant woman...and on what medical basis did your boss claim that figgy?! Honestly, some people.
And I'm sure you don't have them newartriotstar!!

Got seven plain white babygrows for newborns today from my DP's boss, of all people- welcomed most happily as it's another thing we won't have to buy. Am quite looking forward to buying a few things this weekend, as all of our stuff is yet to arrive from various relatives passing items on. May allow myself one 'cute' purchase amongst the sensible mattress/muslins stuff.

By the way cherrypi, glad everything sorted re the baby moving- from what I've read on other threads on MN it appears that like the carpal tunnel/daft comments/morning sickness it's one of those things that every woman will go through at some point in their pregnancy. You did the right thing calling straight in though... I know if/when it happens to me I'll feel guilty about it- seems to be the British way...
