Ah I know just what you mean Scarlet I think. My DH is similar - super long hours, mega conscientious, working overtime and weekends and the occasional all nighter Sad. Like you though it does mean that we can have me at home which over all gives us a better life I think. To be honest, DH's job is such that he would be doing the same hours etc even if I did work so at least by my not working, when he isn't at work we can have proper quality time instead of trying to get jobs done.

To be fair to DH though he is quite sweet when I'm feeling poorly and is quite happy for a 'quick n easy' take away meal if need be Smile

scarletfingernail · 10/09/2011 15:20

Just about to PM you Biscuits as I've been wondering the same thing, but like you, didn't want to make you feel uncomfortable.

Biscuitsandtea · 10/09/2011 15:24

I thought of doing that but had no idea how to do it Blush

scarletfingernail · 10/09/2011 15:27

Ok I've just sent the PM but have never done one before so let me know if you haven't got it.

scarletfingernail · 10/09/2011 17:21

Ok so Biscuits and I have discovered that we aren't next door neighbours. Wouldn't that have been weird Smile

I have managed to persuade DH that we are buying dinner from the fish and chip shop this evening (He doesn't like it, most odd) and I am embarrassingly excited, Blush I have dreamed of eating chip shop fish and chips all week. Going to wait until DS is in bed then go and get it and watch Strictly Come Dancing that we will have recorded. How sad that I'm looking forward to this evening so much.

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 10/09/2011 17:34

Mmm, fish shop chips! I made DH take me to McDonald's for lunch Blush. I had a toast aversion this morning and Rice Krispies just don't fill you up in the same way! Anyway, DH has decreed that we are going to be eating healthily from Monday onwards, just as soon as we've finished the two cakes he made yesterday.

Biscuitsandtea · 10/09/2011 17:51

Oooh, I do like fish and chips :) and strictly - we're recording it too as we're out tonight but quite looking forward to it. Keeps me out of trouble :)

scarletfingernail · 10/09/2011 18:49

Are you out for dinner Biscuits?

I love Strictly. Not too sure why when I see those gorgeous girl dancers. Their bodies are incredible. Maybe I'll eat the fish and chips before watching, then it'll be too late for me decide to have a healthy salad instead.

I've got food on the brain today. Just been to do our food shop and spent £2.49 on 1 carton on Tropicana Sanguinello!!! It caught my eye and it was screaming "BUY ME" I had to have it. I came home and downed the lot before DH could see. Just need to hide the evidence now. We are supposed to be cutting back on our food shopping, perhaps me going alone while pregnant is not the best idea.

jaggythistle · 10/09/2011 19:19

just logged on after eating my chippy! we must have all been thinking about chips. i never eat them at home so it's a wee change.
really couldn't be bothered cooking.

how come even when i have an afternoon nap i still feel ridiculously tired? hope the super sleepy queasy bit passes quickly.

scarlet i read somewhere that because your mucous membranes are all funny anyway, it can be hard to shift colds and respiratory infections. I've had a cold for about 2 weeks too and it's just increasing my general crappy washed out feeling!

dreamfeeder · 10/09/2011 20:08

biscuits, thanks for the car seat advice. For DD's RF we drove blooming ages to our nearest specialist. However, while they seemed very knowledgable, and had all the stats on RF safety vs forward facing etc etc they did show me the Britax Multi Tech, which now I have subscribed to the £1 free months trial of Which? I see is a Don't Buy, as the fact that it is so complicated to fit in the car means it is deemed so highly likely to be fitted incorrectly it is considered unsafe, plus has rubbish side impact protection deemed barely satisfactory/ unsatifactory in a crash. The retailer DID tell me it offered less side impact protection, but why are they selling a seat like that!? The Which? list has been a bit of an eye opener. Big names like Britax have multiple seats listed as unsafe. Some for fitting difficulty, some for impact protection. scream, I think it's worth it to pay and look. The car seat is the one bit of kit that may save your child's life. Hopefully not. Hopefully they'd be just as safe playing unrestrained on the backseat as the car will never be involved in a crash but.... And I live in the North West. Now, the one I have my eye on following my recent research I can only see sold right down south, at That Shop in Milton Keynes mentioned everywhere in the world on MN... I'm not going there!!!! Far too far.

DD's party today. The destruction unleashed on the house... I was puking for England, so everyone but everyone twigged I'm pg. No secrets here anymore. DD still had fun, but now DH has gone down with a tummy bug (please god not the food and we haven't poisioned people...). Tiring, tiring day.

I really can't be bothered cooking full stop any more. Think i'd like to be sahm, but i feel the stress of needing to have the home cooked meal ready every night... I really struggle with that. DH quite happy with pizza, or fish and chips bunged in the oven, but it's hardly healthy. I need to branch out, and more quick and easy recipes...

oh, and biscuits and scarlet, I'm genuinely disappointed you don't live near each other, that would have been great!! A like minded pg person on hand Grin

dreamfeeder · 10/09/2011 20:12

and thanks for the car seat link biscuits, DD's car seat was a ? silver award winner on MN (will have to check again) when I checked before buying it. Will look now for the ones i'm thinking of for number 2....

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 10/09/2011 20:42

Oh man, it must be pregnancy hormones. I'm tearing up at the X Factor!

pommedechocolat · 10/09/2011 20:45

Me too too! I love Kelly and Gary.

musicalmrs · 10/09/2011 21:03

Hi all! I've only just discovered this wonderful thread that I suppose I should now be joining you all on? Still shocked, surprised, and slightly disbelieving mind!

Booked up an appointment at my doctors for a week Friday. Seems a way away, but from what I've heard the initial 'booking' appointment isn't particularly important anyway? I hear that they go on about eating heathily, no alcohol and smoking etc - all the stuff we already know?

I thought that it was supposed to be me getting hormonal, but DH has been much worse than me - over the last week (even before BFP!). Sympathetic hormonal-ness maybe?

I don't the excitement of being pg has hit me yet. I think I'm all too worried about what could go wrong! I suppose not having shared it with anyone yet also means less excitement..

dreamfeeder · 10/09/2011 21:14

also x-factoring. Also getting emotional. these blinking hormones!!

I am so tired i should really just be joining DH in bed (but hopefully without getting his tummy bug)

dreamfeeder · 10/09/2011 21:14

and hello musical! I felt like an imposter when I first poked my nose through here! Pull up a glittery vom bucket, make yourself at home, you'll be in here a good long while (8 months in fact Wink)

scarletfingernail · 10/09/2011 21:57

dream you will pleased to hear that Biscuits and I do actually live not too far away from each other. Bumping into each other is a very real possibility. I was right about the car seat shop and there are other places that we both frequent too. Spooky eh?

Welcome musical feel free to freak out on here as often as you like.

I'm afraid I won't be able to join in any X Factor chat for I cannot stand the programme. That is all I should say on the matter as I wouldn't like to offend Grin

Sounds like fun in your house today dream full of kids, non-stop puking and a poorly DH. I hope DD enjoyed herself though. What is the name of the shop in Milton Keynes? I genuinely haven't heard it mentioned.

jaggy my chips were delicious. I have satisfied my craving and will go back to being healthy tomorrow Hmm I hope your cold clears off soon as well. As if we need proper illness on top of pregnancy symptoms. How rude!

dreamfeeder · 10/09/2011 22:08

scarlet, the In Car Safety Centre. Mentioned in all the reviews of RF group 1's in at least one review I think.... Must be one of the biggest centres for RF care seats, surely... All retailers are listed on www.rearfacing.co.uk though, thats how I found the nearest for me.

Today was difficult. 7 or 8 of DD's little friends, plus mostly both their parents (only 2 couples with 2 children), me with horrific m.s and vomming, then DH starts joining in, DD still on one nap a day that doesn't really cut it... Am I pleased it's over!!! I was the World's Worst Hostess. I had to apologise to people for my lack of hosting. I realised, near the end, I had offered no-one, but no-one, a cup of tea. They'd all had to fend for themselves. I am so embarrassed!!! Sigh.

For tea, I have had left over salad, half an avocado and 4 slices of bread and butter.

Hooray, you and biscuits could still become RL friends!!! I was so excited I might have bumped into jaggy on hol. No idea how I'd have recognised her really. We went to meet up with an old friend of DH's,and DH said their child was 23 months and I thought 'maybe it's...' and then he said their LO was a girl and I was very unreasonably disappointed it couldn't be jaggy!

dreamfeeder · 10/09/2011 22:14

oh, and DD did enjoy herself. She adores my friend's (exceptionally bright) 2.5 y.o. DD. Honestly, she'd follow her round and try to 'talk' to her all day every day if she could.... And that was just one of her friends. She could do worse than take a leaf out of her book too!!!!

The only problem was if another LO tried to take her car keys. Her grandpa got her a set of her very own, cleaned, polished and sharp-bits-filed keys, with car key, key rings, gas box key (!) and all, for her birthday, just like mummy's keys. You have to prise them out of her clamped fists..... Her favourite present. By far.

Biscuitsandtea · 11/09/2011 09:26

Morning :)

Gosh Dream sounds like you deserve an award for getting through the party yesterday with all that sickness - what a trooper! Hope your poor DH is feeling better now too - maybe he has the bug you had on holiday? I'm sure you haven't given him food poisoning Grin

I have to confess we don't watch x factor either (although now I know it has Gary Barlow on it I might reconsider Wink)

We were out for dinner last night which was a v rare treat - DH seemed to pick everything I'm not allowed - meanie! But was still delish Grin

We watched the strictly launch when we got back - anyone else? Can't quite figure out the girl from Waterloo road Hmm?

Nice to see you here Musical it takes a while to settle in to the knowledge doesn't it! I know it did for me - I an only just allowing myself to think that maybe it might be ok and to get a teeny bit excited (and i'll be 12 weeks on wed). Scan is on Friday - hope I'm not getting excited for nothing - eeek Confused

dreamfeeder · 11/09/2011 12:01

Morning all!

I weighed myself this morning and am only 2lb lighter than before The Puking began. This is very unfair. At least last time I got properly thin and got actual sympathy for it though i did panic at how a baby could be growing healthily while I shrank.

Anyway, DH is a bit better today, he has stopped puking and got the runs instead. I am de-contaminated the bathroom with a lot of cleaning product in an OCD about bugs way, washed the sheets, about to do all towels and am generally preparing for me and DD not to catch it! Don't know if it could be the same thing, a week would seem like a pretty long incubation period.

biscuits, i'm sure your scan will be lovely, the only tears will be tears of relief and happiness that it's all gone well. And you can come out!

Anyway, I am actually still on the computer on Mission Carseat, and have had some useful info on my thread on that so am off to google some more car seats and wish I lived near Milton Keynes Grin

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 11/09/2011 12:23

Morning people!

Hi Musical, pull up a bucket! Welcome!

Dream, the sickness sounds terrible (yours and DH's), but kudos for surviving the party anyway. Those keys sound like the perfect gift. All the cleaning sounds like it should kill any lingering bugs! I have persuaded DH that cleaning products are bad for baby bean, so he has nobly cleaned the shower this morning (note: only the shower, not the sink and toilet as well Hmm) and I have nobly refrained from checking his work to make sure he didn't miss any corners. Good luck with the car seat hunt. I have a secondhand MaxiCosi car seat which we plan to fit with the seatbelt, and I just hope that's safe enough! It was SIL's, so we know it hasn't been in any crashes or anything. Mum has just taken out a subscription to Which, so she can look it up for me. She told me that my brand new Henry hoover only scored 56% on Which, kindly. I pointed out that it failed on stair cleaning and pet hair, and I live in a bungalow and my dog has short hair unlike her golden retrievers, so I did not care!

Biscuits, going out for dinner sounds marvellous!

Right, I am supposed to be tidying while DH does the food shopping, so I had better stop MNing and actually do something.

musicalmrs · 11/09/2011 13:29

Thanks for the welcomes! Bucket fully prepared. I've not actually been sick yet, though have felt it a lot.. I'm veryvery rarely sick (it normally manifests in other ways, if you know what I mean!), so hoping this may be the same... but time will tell I suppose. In case it appears though, trying to eat as heathily as I can - while I still can!

I think DH is getting more excited, which is lovely! :) Was looking at baby outfits and things today, and talking about maternity clothes. We just bought him the Bloke's Guide to Pregnancy, to try and help him through a bit. Does anyone know of any forums, like MN, good for blokes during pregnancy? I know he likes to talk about his feelings, but we have no pregnant friends (that we know of!), and the forums he's found so far aren't much good! He's been browsing MN, which I think is doing him the world of good :D

Back to teaching next week (training was this wk) - hoping I won't be too ridiculously exhausted, as I was this past week!

Wants3 · 11/09/2011 14:35

wobbles in on shiny Segway with ginger biscuit holder and hook for vom bucket if needed thanks for inviting me over although I don't know how am going to keep up with both threads as you lot are the chattiest I have come across! Still getting used to the idea and keep looking at pee stick( tucked away in the bathroom)I will pop in whenever I can!

musicalmrs · 11/09/2011 14:44

Hurrah, welcome Wants! I did the same with pee sticks. Very disappointingly my CBD died this morning, so it's no longer telling me I'm pregnant... but the original pee stick is still there for me to gaze and gape at eery now and again :)

I'm not used to the idea yet, and I've known for a few days. Ginger biscuits - now there's something I've missed off of my shopping list..!
